Is there any way to edit what these hardware buttons do? I would like to double tap the home button to bring up my active applications and make the left hardware button the back button [instead of the right button] any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think my title explains everything. I removed the navbar on the bottom and with Button Savior everything is running perfectly but I am worried when Button Savior crashes I will need a backup to get to my home screen. What I am looking for is when I push+hold the power I would like a extra option to go home.
Is this possible? Is there already an app that does this?
Bump.
Maybe tasker can do something? Not sure..

Can anybody please give me a hint on what xml file would I have to go to and what lines would I need to modify in order to hide the "status_bar_recent_launch_google_button". (long press Home button > Recents > Google Search button)
Thanks a lot.

Download xposed installer and noattach's xposed app located in this forum section, not only will you give an option for removal of Google button, but also a lot more customization options if you wish to use them.

Thanks, I knew about NottachXposed but that doesn't help. I work on a project and I would like to do this modification myself as part of the project. I've been banging my head trying to figure it out myself but it just didn't go anywhere. Although I'd like having that particular modification, I'm much more interested in how to do it myself. Thanks anyway!
Hi, im running xnote v8 and was wondering, if there is anything available wether as an add on, wanam module or root app or an in rom tweak that can shorten the delay between when holding the home button to bring up the recent apps as I find it too long even on stock touchwiz.

Also interested.
Have the same thing here

I use xposed framework, and the module xposed aditions, you need root for this
When ever I tap on xposed aditions, it judt gives me a little prompt saying "This module does not provide a user interface" the module was already installed with the ROM I believe, tried Uninstalling it then reinstalling it but it doesnt uninstall although it says it does. And updating it doesnt work either as it saying "an existing package by the same name with a conflicting signature is installed.
Any advice?

the reason there is delay when you press home button, is because system is waiting to see if it's double press to bring up voice command screen. There is a menu where you can disable double click and that should make wait much shorter, but I can't remember which menu is it ATM. This works on stock, I can't help with custom software.
Look in the Play store for Switcher. You can swipe from the bottom, left or right side of screen to open recent apps.

just install nova launcher or go launcher ex and create a gesture, one or two fingers sliding up to show the recent apps. a lot more convenient and quicker to access recents.

This seems like a much better option than trying to map a double click of the home key. Here's to hoping it works!
Hi all
Is there a "fix" for the recent app button to re-map it to menu button on the first touch as it has always been in all previous models?
Thanks
only if u rooted.

What do you mean the hardware button will be safer?? With 2gb ram what s the point to check open apps? It should be used the opposite way...long press to get to task manager, normal touch to get to menu...I ll wait for the other member to show up with the solution hopefully

Well, actually there is a solution since you are rooted: install Xposed framework, then install/check Gravity Box module within the framework menu. Go into the Gravity Box and assign the buttons to your liking, restart the device and voila!

That's it...now we are back in business))
You made me smile again...how could I miss normal samsung function...I''m on Galaxy phones since I9000 (s1)...this recent app button made my life harder on the s5...
Thanks again and again!
For the rest here just a hint...it needs a reboot after framework installation and after Gravity box installation...
Thanks again my friend!
You are very welcome, but you could activate the menu function just holding the recent apps button for 0.3 secs without using any additional apps. Anyways, glad i could help

Ok so i got my edge plus yesterday. Been using the regular s6 for a few months now and in the xda app there is a actual menu button with 3 dots that kinda hovers down at the bottom. Well on my plus it isnt there. Cant figure out how to being up the menu. If i hold back with a longpress it just starts backing out. Holding home brings up google now. And holding the task brings up multiwindow.
My problem is i cant bring up the menu to create a new thread. Thats why im posting this on my s6 rather than my edge.
Is it something simple im just overlooking?

I'm having the same issue! I've yet to figure out a workaround. I have a lot of threads I want to start!

Dis you guys try to uninstall and install again? Im using XDA premium 4 and everything is awesome here
Yeah I have the same issue. One thing you can do though (not a permanent solution) is to go to accessibility settings and then add that hovering extra button and in that way you can access the menu button.

Long press back button?

I wrote about this over in the Note 5 forum. Nonfiction except to use the XDA premium app, which I think is inferior.
Actually the sad thing is that there's so little one can do to the locked device that I stuck to the free version and it doesnt matter as I hardly have a need to create new forums like the old days (where are you now, HD2???).

Here is the temp fix guys the problem is a lot of apps detect if there is a hardware menu button and omit showing the soft 3 dot button common in a lot of apps. The S5 has no dedicated menu button but it does have the long press home button option to launch the More options/Menu button, however out Galaxy S6 models do not have this option. BUT some apps still detect it and delete their in app button.
Here is the fix I figured out that works in this situation and it would be good to pass this on or write up a document.
Go to phone settings => Accessibility => Dexterity and interaction => Assistant Menu.
At the top right slide the off button to on to enable the Assistant menu icon on all screens. Then click on the Edit option. In the edit menu deselect all the buttons you do not need by hitting the red negative on the icons (-) in the upper part of the screen. (note it has two buttons that you cannot remove Home Screen, and Menu Settings) on the bottom half of the page hit the green plus sign (+) on the More Options button (It has 3 dots).
Now on all screens is a little round button with 4 dots on it, it appears on all screens in all programs and is floating. There is the More options button now which is the software menu button we are missing =). You can just go back and disable Assistant menu afterward or like me leave this handy button on because I have multiple programs that do this.
Hope this helps guys Cheers!
Long pressing back key brings up menu in most of the Apps

Yeah I tried that it did not work in the app that I run that I could not get to the menu with, I will try another program and see if I can get that to work. I also tried many of the other options I could find through the searches. See the reply above mine in this thread.
