Hi all
Is there a "fix" for the recent app button to re-map it to menu button on the first touch as it has always been in all previous models?
Thanks

What do you mean the hardware button will be safer?? With 2gb ram what s the point to check open apps? It should be used the opposite way...long press to get to task manager, normal touch to get to menu...I ll wait for the other member to show up with the solution hopefully

Well, actually there is a solution since you are rooted: install Xposed framework, then install/check Gravity Box module within the framework menu. Go into the Gravity Box and assign the buttons to your liking, restart the device and voila!

That's it...now we are back in business))
You made me smile again...how could I miss normal samsung function...I''m on Galaxy phones since I9000 (s1)...this recent app button made my life harder on the s5...
Thanks again and again!
For the rest here just a hint...it needs a reboot after framework installation and after Gravity box installation...
Thanks again my friend!
You are very welcome, but you could activate the menu function just holding the recent apps button for 0.3 secs without using any additional apps. Anyways, glad i could help

3Minit was pretty great. But development stopped and it was pulled from the app store. And I have neither the framework nor the corresponding settings app backed up anywhere to re-install. Honestly, cosmetics aren't a big deal to me, so I can perfectly well get by without most of those functions. But the one thing I care about is also the one thing I haven't found a fitting alternative for: changing button behavior.
To be clear, here is what I used to have my device doing:
Menu Long Press - Launch Colornote
Home Long Press - Screenshot
Home Double Tap - Recent Apps
Back Long Press - Kill app
Now, I know that there are xposed modules like wanamp that will let me restore my old settings to the back and home button. But I haven't found a solution that lets me alter what the menu button does too. I want to be able to launch Color Note from anywhere with a long press once again.
Solutions?
I also just formatted my hdd and have no backup of the framework..
I hope gary is coming back soon.
could anyone deliver a downloadlink in the meantime?
I would like to use the goldeneye 4.3 rom wit my I9505

Lemme know how it goes. BTW it's an Xposed Module, so you need to have Xposed framework installed first.
True what Joe said. But I have used it on sacs back on 4.3 and blu Kuban ROM.

Not sure if this is launcher specific but I'm using Nova Prime and if you long press the menu button, then the original menu items pop up instead of recent apps. I never test with TW launcher. Discovered this later. But this way you don't have to remap with gravity box.

I'm not even sure what gravitybox even is. I tried to see if it was in the app storre. someone else in the thread recommended to do so....
FYI - the layout used in the S5 is the standard Android button layout and you will see fewer and fewer devices using a dedicated menu button, as there's no need for it in Android 4.x+

Gravity BOX is a module that is installed after you first use Xposed Installer. Google this or look it up in a search here on XDA.
So when I open recents now, the close all and manage apps buttons are gone from the bottom of the screen. What did I do?

are you using gravity box with xposed framework?
i lost recent button as well when using gravity box and messing with the hardware keys options, long press, double tap, etc
i would uninstall gravity box if you have it and see what happens.

Nope ... no gravity box. Haven't messed with any settings in quite some time and *poof* I open recents one day and the task manager and close all buttons are gone.

if thats the case, id install xposed frameworks, install gravity box, mess with the hardware keys options and see if that FIXES it. If not, your next option would be to do a clean wipe and flash.

Yeah I run xposed with Wanam and a couple other modules. Worth a try I reckon ... Could update to latest release while I'm at it still on NI2 that should take care of it as well ...

Wanam is great for theme-ing , call, security and other tweaks, but i havent seen much about hardware keys in there, your best bet is gravity box for your recent key to come back.

Understood re: Wanam ... was just saying I have it in reply to the suggestion I install xposed. Will give it a try.
Didn't make any changes to the phone and *poof* just as mysteriously as they disappeared, they are back ... *shrug*
Hello, all. I'm trying to disable the home button. I've tried everything I've read and searched up, it's a no-go. It doesn't wake the phone which is halfway there but it still functions after the lockscreen. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

let's me see
It didn't work for any of the capacitive buttons nor the home. But I'm already good with the capacitives through another method. Hardware home seems impenetrable. Anything else?
All right. I finally got it! I edited gpio-keys.kl (separate from the rest of the buttons from down there for some reason) and I added a # in front of key 172 HOME and saved it.
I cannot get to the menu on TIB on the phone. it doesn't show in either screen.
(can't get image attached for some reason)
But it is supposed to be in top right hand corner says Menu in overview screen, or the 3 vertical dots in other screens.
Anyone else notice this? any suggestions for a fix. I don't believe it's TiB issue cause only happens on this phone works just fine on my S6

It's like this for me as well. I used the menu button in Mipop to get to tibu's menu. I later used gravity box to map menu to a longpress of the back button. Hope this helps.

Confirmed, same thing. Mapping long press recents to menu is an awesome fix, I was missing having a menu key anyway!
You can click problems in the TB screen, it will prompt you with preference option

if you have root i assume you know how to get xposed.
Once you have that, install this module and reboot, you should now have menu option in any app that doesn't show it currently.
I think, most of xposed user will install GravityBox and there is also a keymapping option and youre free, which key shall use an menue function. work fine with TB

It has a menu button it just doesn't show on this phone for some reason. I suspect DPI issue. But button remap works great since it works on any open app.
