Has anybody experimented with how far away from the surface the wireless charging works? What kinds of cases and bumpers don't remove the back glass too far from the surface? Any experiences?

Some folk have said in the wireless charging threads that wireless charging works fine with the bumper and gel tpu cases on. So I imagine it will work fine with all manner of cases.
Energizer single inductive charger working fine with my gel tpu case (the commonly found S TPU case).
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Works absolutely flawlessly with the WCP-700 as well, bumper and all.
Does one of these exist? I have a cheap TPU S-line case from ebay that I bought when the phone was first released. It works with the QI charger but it does not keep the dust out of the ports.
I bought two cheapies off ebay to test if something a little thicker would work with the QI charger and so far nothing does. Seems that any case that covers ports are thick and may not work with the QI charger.
BTW its the Energizer charger, not the official Google one.
Have you considered just getting a microusb port cover? http://www.moddiy.com/products/modDIY-Micro%2dUSB-Protective-Jack-Cover.html for example

I have but if a case exists that will work then I would like to give that a shot first. I notice the covers for the cases are snug fit so it wont allow dust in at all when a plug may leave room between it and the case. I work in a very dirty environment and would like to keep the phone itself as clean as possible.

Does it work reliably? Does it add significant thickness with the original battery cover?
Thanks!

Hi!!..
I tried the cheaper amazon and ebay wireless charging inserts with a combination of different situations and yes there pretty good.. I have name brand chargers like the lg puck and the nokia one that is a little larger but i could'nt be happier... yes it had a very small bulge to the back of the stock case and it is so small that it's only a problem if u use a soft backed case like a tpu case.. made the phone kind of wobble in the middle when u set her down... but when I switched to a cheap hard backed case at that point it does not distort any longer and sits flat and fine.. The hard backed case makes finding the sweet spot on the charger a little harder and it takes a little extra to get it started charging simply because the hard backed case i have is WAY thicker than any tpu case I've used so it increases the distance from the receiver to the charger and makes the activation spot harder to find but once it is on its golden and charges just as fast and well as my old s4 I had that had the samsung charging back which made EVERY standard case totally incompatible... which was very frustrating considering I was trying not to wear out my fragile charge port and keep the phone unscratched... It was impossible so I went this way with my note 3 and all cases still fit.. and for $13 shipped for the receiver. It's much cheaper. And considering I still cant find the official back in stores around my area its a much better alternative.
I used these guys and this reciever.. ordered two so far... http://www.ebay.com/itm/31077619690...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
I even took one and soldered some pins cut to the correct size to both of the leads and use this bad boy with my hyperion extended battery.. worked like a charm with minimal bulge coming out of the back case... so with the bulge u might want to invest in a fatboy pillow type charger... that way the bulge that is there wont even exist to the surface or bother u at all. Hope this helps.. :highfive:
A bit of a random one that falls under the "I crap you not" category, but it seems the combination of slippery glass back + a wireless charger (non-Samsung brand) that has a high pitch whine seems to be just enough to cause the phone to slowly rotate until it completely falls off the charger after about 5 minutes.
Just throwing it out there in case I'm not the only one. I'm going to be putting a Ringke slim case on it in a couple days like I did with the S3, S4, and S5 which will solve the problem.

Why not use IF to make a rule: If it's charging, turn vibrate off?

The phone's vibrator isn't what's vibrating. My guess is it's inductor coil whine that's causing just enough vibration to rotate the phone off the pad (wiki has a page called Coil noise)
Oh wow, that's... kind of awesome, in the worst way possible. I'll say this: I have no issues whatsoever with my Nokia Qi chargers, the D900s I believe? The plates that AT&T sold for the Lumia 920, and they blew out for $5 each a while back. Awesome, awesome chargers.
buy some thin rubber film that has an adhesive on one side and put it on the pad.

This. Just a thin rubber film should suffice.
By the way, have anybody tried to use wireless charging with the S6 wrapped in a protective case? I read about materials and wireless charging and I read even 1 cm of plastic barrier should not be a problem, but just wanted to make sure if somebody has tried it already.

Plastic / rubber should be transparent to wireless charging, and my S6 connects to the pad with even a 1/4" air gap.
Get one of these things

I wouldn't ever use it in a car, but for your purposes it'll do well.
...I use them underneath my cutting boards haha.
It seams that it really happens, very weird though.
Look at the review below, at 16:05 while is wireless charging.

Wow you have a good eye, but yeah at 16:10 you can see the USB port on the phone starts rotating away from the USB cord.
At the cost of a scratch to the bottom left of my S6 I can confirm that it will vibrate off of the charger even if it is placed in the centre of it. Its disappointing that Samsung hasn't tested the phone's wireless charging and picked up on this. I've contacted Samsung to see if anything can be done about it and I'll let you know if/when I get a reply.

It doesn't vibrate off the PMA charger I am using
Is it an LG by any change? Have the same issue with mine, you can watch it rotate in real time. Kinda cool, sort of. lol

my slim armor with plastic+TPU charges with the pad perfectly fine
Never got into wireless charging on my S7. Always had a magnetic mount on the vent with a metal plate between the phone and the case. Now that I'm hooked on wireless charging, I'm on a similar setup but with a wide ring magnet between phone and case so it doesn't interfere with wireless charging. My one issue is that when the phone is flat on a desk, it rocks just a little (and I like a thin case). So what I'm looking for is a thin case, with an embedded magnet (so it's a flat bottom surface) and where the magnet is in a configuration where it doesn't interfere with wireless charging (whether it's a wide ring, or a few magnet points spaced out, etc.) I've thought about digging into my case as a DIY but not there yet Pitaka MagCase looks like it would so the trick but it hasn't been released yet. Any out there that I'm just not finding?
Thanks!
And, this is on an S9 plus.
Can you post pics of your setup? I'm looking for a magnetic wireless car charger that holds up via the vent.

thx for the tip.... now i want one too

Search on Amazon for "Magnetic Wireless Car Charger, ELEGIANT Fast Wireless Charging Car Mount Phone Holder". Looks like it's now out of stock but there's dozens just like them. I went with something inexpensive to make sure it worked. And it did- fast charged on the mount as well as the Samsung official desktop wireless charger. Although the swivel ball joint on the vent mount was a little flimsy. I placed the magnetic ring such that the top of it was about 1/4" below the bottom of the fingerprint sensor (I spent a lot of time trying to figure out exactly where the coils in the phone were; you can take a good guess by knowing that the desktop Sammy wireless charger woks with both the phone standing upright as well as on it's side and that it's got two coils).
Even though the ring is very thin, it still adds a slight bulge in the middle and makes it "wobble" a bit. I don't have the right shop equipment to shave a circular channel on the inside of the case to place the magnetic ring
Found one made by Nillkin. Have to use their own charging mount (which makes perfect sense as it uses four small magnets at four corners of the mount). Reviews aren't great, it's standard (not fast) charging, and the I like my side buttons uncovered.
Xvida makes one as well (a little bulkier than the Pitaka) but S8 is the most recent they support as of now.
hey guys,
you might wanna hold off getting the pitaka magmount, I received info from pitaka that the s9+ position of the wireless charging coil of S9 therefore the position of the built-in metal plate is different from other cases, they are still testing there new wireless charging mount, it will come out later.
I will be getting a review unit of the case later and I will let you know how I feel about the case. cheers guys.

I have the iOttie magnetic mount/quick charger in my car.
It worked really well with my S8 and note 8.
I put the small metal ring inside the case on my S9+ and it was very finicky.
Sometimes it would only charge (not fast charge) and other times it wouldn't charge at all.
I found that by placing the ring up higher near the camera, it maintained position to quick charge the phone and hold it securely.
The qi coil in the S9+ seems to be a bit closer to the camera than the other devices I've used.
I hope this helps.

Great- thanks- similar to my current setup- I'm just looking for a case where the ring is actually embedded in the case, so the back of the case is perfectly flat.
Looks like from another thread the S9+ MagCase has launched- not on Amazon yet but on the Pitaka site- would love to see a review to make sure it quick charges wirelessly (as opposed to not quick). Sounds like they had issues with magnet placement originally and that might affect it.
Nillkin makes one. It's on Amazon as well.

Yes- thank you- the Nillkin looks great- and a lot less expensive than the Pitaka- but the case has full edges that cover the buttons which I'm not a fan of.
