Knox question - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Just to clarify for myself...
I am currently running stock rooted 4.4.2 NAE rom and am wanting to move to a custom one.
To keep from bricking my phone I must install another NAE 4.4.2 rom correct?
Cuz you can't downgrade with Knox right?
What about this JFLTE I'm seeing?
Does it have to be 4.4.2 or have to be NAE or both?
I'm sure these questions are out there somewhere. But I don't see it (please don't flame me for asking)
Thanks!

With CUSTOM Roms you can downgrade. Its only with official Samsung tars that you cannot. And JFLTE is the codename for the Samsung Galaxy s4. And usually only used with AOSP roms.

[Q] What is jfltespr?

I am looking to get the Offiical Cyanogen Mod ROM for the Sprint galaxy s4, but it says I need "jfltespr" what is this? I am currently rooted and have a custom ROM, Sacs rom V 5.0. Here are screenshots of my "About phone"

Basically I want to get an AOSP ROM, I don't mind if it's Cyanogen Mod, I'm actually going to ask another question: What AOSP Rom would you recommend, and does it require "jfltespr" if so how do I get that? Thanks, sorry for being such a noob d:
Jfltespr is just a code name. It is the sprint Galaxy S4. it had me confused when I downloaded slimkat.

Thanks! So can I download any AOSP Rom? Or do they only work on specific firmware's? I think I have MK2, do all AOSP roms work on MK2?
I still have mf9 firmware on my phone. I haven't updated it to mk2. I haven't had any issues. I am running a dual boot of sacs custom 5.2 touchwiz and the latest slimkat aosp weekly rom.
So I guess to answer, they should be compatible either way. Maybe not with pre mf9 firmware but I can't confirm that. I haven't really found a reason yet to update to mk2 modem but I've only owned this phone for 3 days.

I took the MJA update and have the MK2 modem...and all the AOSP ROMs 4.3 and up work. I just cannot use any below 4.3

[Q] What's the difference between I337UCUFMLD &

I337ATTFNB1 firmware? Is it worth switching from MLD to NB!?
Only issue is warranty. But, if you got MDL that may be mute. Otherwise, you can flash NB1 or even NC2 roms. I see no reason not too--:good:
Oops, misread--thought you meant the early MDL build. I don't remember MLD as I rooted back in April/May 2013. You have to find change logs. I still think newer is usually better though--

I experienced an issue with maps on the FMLD leak.
If you are currently on the FMLD 4.4 leak you can upgrade to NB1 or even the latest NC1 firmware while maintaining the option to Odin flash back to factory stock MK2. Just don't flash the NB1 or NC1 bootloaders. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2692825

I have an att s4 on mk2(hyperdrive) and will upgrade soon to a nb1 based ROM. Can I flash anything that is 4.4.2 based like nc2?

That rom can be flashed with or without SafeStrap. So, if you are on the MDL bootloader you can flash whatever you want. If MF3 or higher there are restrictions to certain TW roms and no aosp/aokp roms.
If you are using SafeStrap, go to General and read up on your bootloader and what roms you can use. There are different SafeStrap versions too. I am not up on newer BL's and SafeStrap. Just the basics with it--:good:

OK, if that's your bootloaoader then you are using SafeStrap. So will need to check out the General threads on builds mk2 and higher.
Also, someone will probably give you exact info here that has that experience--
Sorry I can't offer more atm--

Can I flash nc4, nc8, nc9, etc. Roms over a nb1 ROM?

In the Att all thing mk2 nb1 section it has all this ROMs that are all 4.4.2 based but I wasn't sure if they would work and could be flashed over a nb1 ROM in another slot

To be on this forum and understand your phone you got to do some reading. This question has been made hundred of times. When i join this forum they would be really nasty for asking the same question over and over.
I will give you an answer anyway.
Since you have one of the latest builds. AT&T has locked the bootloader which makes very hard the process of rooting and installing custom roms. In other words you can only flash TW roms.

Yes i knew that nb1, mk2, and mf3, all have lock bootloaders which mean i can only flash tw based roms. I was asking if the others like nc8 nc9 build numbers are like variants of nb1 or something like that since they are listed under 4.4.2 tw based roms. now im thinking that those are for people who had what ever build came before mf3 that can use loki to flash the latest roms.lease tell me if im wrong.

You can flash any build that is the same android version. The only thing that people with Loki get are AOSP ROMs. Other bases like nc9 and others are still Touchwiz.

[Q] Cyanogenmod installer confirmed working with AT&T GS4 SGH-I337?

The question is will my device work with the jflteusc version of the CyanogenMod Installer? I have a AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-I337. I heard of the new CyanogenMod installer and looked at the supported devices. I saw a jflteusc (US Cellular). I don't knoiw if it will work with my AT&T S4. I don't want to **** up my phone. I'm currently on 4.4.2 NB1 stock rooted. The website I am referencing is http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/CyanogenMod_Installer Any help would be great!

Did you use safestrap and deadly venom kitmat magic tool in install 4.4.2 stock rooted? If so, you cannot get CM to work.
Yes I did. If I upgrade to NC1 stock unrooted, would that work?

You have a locked boot loader that prevents from changing the kernel. So, no.

There has to be a reason why only ATT S4 is missing from the list, right?
Yea I downloaded the app and it said device unsupported

Has anyone ventured to trying the installer in the unsupported mode? Is there a reasoning behind this and safe to try if I'm already rooted and TWRP? I thought there already was an ATT compatible build.

If your bootloader/firmware were MDB or MDL you could try it. Above that there is no exploit for the bootloader out yet so you can not install the CM.
Yes I'm on the same adventure with my sgh-i337. I'm going back and forth between MK2 and NB1 ROMs but cannot get MDL or MDB flashed at all. I got them from samfirmware and Odin fails. I tried kies and it says firmware available is MDL ... Well great, but then it says device not recognized!
I'm really torn between why is it we can get to MDL to flash CM?
Instructions:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_jflteatt
Edit: once updated to MK2 there is no going back. Bootloders are locked and that is the end of the story. No more CM or CWM recovery or Loki ... Just safestrap and custom ROMs.

Just as a final reference for all: CM installer is not for the I337.
On MF3 and above, we have no exploit for ROMs and Cyanogenmod is not compatible with our stock kernel.
Even on MDB/MDL it won't work because you need Loki which the installer doesn't take care of AFAIK (if it were to even let you open it).

I'm Looking For A Custom Kitkat 4.4.2 Rom For My S4

I am looking for a custom KitKat rom 4.4.2. All the ones I'm finding will not flash successfully. The one I did find was messing up my phone modem (radio) and it was causing dropped calls and EDGE connection problems so I flashed it back to stock. I want a new custom rom without this issue that is rooted with Wifi/tethering.
I have the Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-I337 model with AT&T.
I appreciate any help it I can get with this!

If you take the time to read like most of us have. You will find out that you can't flash custom rooms if you are on kit kat until devs find exploit, which is going to be very hard.

From what he says you could tell he is either on mk2, nb1 or NC1 which the bootloader is lock down and as most of us know we can only flash Tw roms.

Op, can you tell us what firmware version you're on?
