[Q] What's the difference between I337UCUFMLD & - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I337ATTFNB1 firmware? Is it worth switching from MLD to NB!?

Only issue is warranty. But, if you got MDL that may be mute. Otherwise, you can flash NB1 or even NC2 roms. I see no reason not too--:good:
Oops, misread--thought you meant the early MDL build. I don't remember MLD as I rooted back in April/May 2013. You have to find change logs. I still think newer is usually better though--

I experienced an issue with maps on the FMLD leak.
If you are currently on the FMLD 4.4 leak you can upgrade to NB1 or even the latest NC1 firmware while maintaining the option to Odin flash back to factory stock MK2. Just don't flash the NB1 or NC1 bootloaders. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2692825

I have an att s4 on mk2(hyperdrive) and will upgrade soon to a nb1 based ROM. Can I flash anything that is 4.4.2 based like nc2?

That rom can be flashed with or without SafeStrap. So, if you are on the MDL bootloader you can flash whatever you want. If MF3 or higher there are restrictions to certain TW roms and no aosp/aokp roms.
If you are using SafeStrap, go to General and read up on your bootloader and what roms you can use. There are different SafeStrap versions too. I am not up on newer BL's and SafeStrap. Just the basics with it--:good:

OK, if that's your bootloaoader then you are using SafeStrap. So will need to check out the General threads on builds mk2 and higher.
Also, someone will probably give you exact info here that has that experience--
Sorry I can't offer more atm--

on top of stock rom, my stock rom was JeallyBean 4.2.2 i337 mf3 not mdl and i read there are no mf3 files for odin
So i managed to fix this problem just by downloading stock rom for my phone and flashing with safestrap: Galaxy S4 rooted Stock ROM AT&T SGH-i337 MF3 (i found that on google)
The rom i downloader is rooted. and it said to install Loki after finishing flashing rom but i managed not to.
after you finished flashing you need to install also: jflteatt-MF3-modules(attachment) : this will make your wifi to work.
Every thing i just said, worked for me! do this at your own risk! im not responsible for any damages!!!
Wait what if you flash MDL with safestrap, and use goo.im for TWRP? It could possibly brick but just an idea.

It wouldn't. The bootloader is still MF3 no matter what you do to the system, and so it will still be locked with no way to bypass it.

Stuck in Odin

I am running stock AT&T 4.2.2 MF3 rooted with Motochopper, I believe.
An OTA downloaded on my device today, NC1 I guess? I knew I couldn't install it because either it would fail after detecting root, or I would potentially brick.
I wanted to update to stock NB1 or NC1 (maintaining or re-establishing root afterward).
The MF3 update threads I have found seem outdated.
Please let me know what the safest way to flash the latest stock that is rootable.
Thanks in advance.

Hello, Sixftsix, I am in the same boat as you. MF3 rooted wanting to upgrade to NC1. Did it successfully work for you? The files say NB1 to NC1 not MF3 to NC1 so I was just wondering if it worked. Also what version of Safestrap did you use?
Thank you very much!

I haven't upgraded yet, I'm still confused on what is the proper/safest method.
I am not sure if we have to go from MF3 > MK2 > NB1 > NC1... or if we can go directly to NB1 with this: "NB1 STOCK -- Get to NB1 Stock from NB1 or earlier... I337UCUFNB1 4.4 Stock Odin Tar & System Dump", then use the NB1 to NC1 method.
Let me know if you attempt anything and the results, I will do the same. I did lot of reading with no clear answers.
If anyone can confirm the best method, I would appreciate your help!

Apparently you need to upgrade to MK2, root, then do MK2 to NB1, and then NB1 to NC1. Its a process. I think I'll just stick with 4.2.2 until a root method is available for KitKat then I'll just upgrade to KitKat instead of flashing because I always have bad luck when it comes to soft modding...
Good luck.

If you want NB1, you can flash straight to it with the ODIN package. If you want root, you can flash to either MK2 or NB1 but going to NB1 adds in the downgrade steps.

Slightly different. You'll have to extract the partitions to flash from the ODIN file since it doesn't work with ODIN packages directly. Alternatively, you could try JODIN3.

Can I flash nc4, nc8, nc9, etc. Roms over a nb1 ROM?

In the Att all thing mk2 nb1 section it has all this ROMs that are all 4.4.2 based but I wasn't sure if they would work and could be flashed over a nb1 ROM in another slot

To be on this forum and understand your phone you got to do some reading. This question has been made hundred of times. When i join this forum they would be really nasty for asking the same question over and over.
I will give you an answer anyway.
Since you have one of the latest builds. AT&T has locked the bootloader which makes very hard the process of rooting and installing custom roms. In other words you can only flash TW roms.

Yes i knew that nb1, mk2, and mf3, all have lock bootloaders which mean i can only flash tw based roms. I was asking if the others like nc8 nc9 build numbers are like variants of nb1 or something like that since they are listed under 4.4.2 tw based roms. now im thinking that those are for people who had what ever build came before mf3 that can use loki to flash the latest roms.lease tell me if im wrong.

You can flash any build that is the same android version. The only thing that people with Loki get are AOSP ROMs. Other bases like nc9 and others are still Touchwiz.

Yes. Any Touchwiz ROM from any S4 except the 8 core I9500 will work.

[Q] Is there some sort of timeline of all of the firmwares

I am so confused by which firmware came when and what the issues are.. Is there any sort of timeline/index for this?
Mdb, mdl, mf3, mk2, nb1, nc1
Mdl/mdl. 4.2.2
Mf3. 4.3
Mk2,nb1, nc1. 4.4.2
Mdb/mdl had an exploit to get around the locked bootloader. All the others require safstrap to flash tw only roms
Edit, I think I'm wrong on the versions. I think mk2 was 4.3 and mf3 was a 4.2.2 variant

Knox question

Just to clarify for myself...
I am currently running stock rooted 4.4.2 NAE rom and am wanting to move to a custom one.
To keep from bricking my phone I must install another NAE 4.4.2 rom correct?
Cuz you can't downgrade with Knox right?
What about this JFLTE I'm seeing?
Does it have to be 4.4.2 or have to be NAE or both?
I'm sure these questions are out there somewhere. But I don't see it (please don't flame me for asking)
Thanks!

With CUSTOM Roms you can downgrade. Its only with official Samsung tars that you cannot. And JFLTE is the codename for the Samsung Galaxy s4. And usually only used with AOSP roms.
