Article in The Economist about dongles in UK

There was an interesting article about broadband internet access which said that you can use a dongle in the UK and buy a Vodafone SIM card for internet access at some low hourly rate. We dont have that type of thing here in the US.
Does anyone know if I can just use my unlocked 8525 as a modem and buy the SIM card from Vodafone without the dongle itself? Surely the phone should work with the SIM card as a dongle without my needing to buy one in addition? It seems to be called a Huawei E1550 and in any event doesnt seem to be available in the US. Curiously when i tried looking for one, all I could find were unlock services for it, implying that even if I were able to find one, it would probably be locked to some other carrier)
I have a Sprint Novatel dongle for use in the US but am fairly sure it wont work in the UK
Is 3g access a standard feature of the ROMs available here for the 8535 or do I have to install it separately? It doesnt seem to work on my (newer) Wing on my T-Mobile service at all!
I tried looking on the forum but all I could find was a reference to 3gnetopt.zip and various people saying that they hadnt managed to get it to work

[Q] Unlock network with the IMEI code generator

I heard that was released some IMEI generator with which you can unlock your phone on any network. As it has for Nokia phones.
Does anyone have experience with those related to LG GT540?
If there would be useful to put on the net.
Dont know if this is true , but somewhere i heard that not many android phones are actually locked to a network, they just have branding on them , and may have system apps.
But i havnt tried it out as everyone in my area is on the same network.
Well, I know it's a little phone is locked, but all of them will be more. Actually here is the word that if anyone knows and help those who have locked phones to network operators that have purchased the machine do the opposite. More specifically, to unlock and simply use any sim card.
Most Android phones are locked only at the software level. This is true for GT540 as well I guess. It's not usually locked but when it's locked, it's just software lock. Not an IMEI lock. You just have to root it and unlock the phone. Or, flash an unlocked KDZ.
IMEI locks are not used on phones generally. They are used only one stolen phones.
On the other hand, in some networks where SIM cards are not used, the phone is authenticated into network using IMEI/IMSI/MIN/ESN. When this is done, you don't need an IMEI generator, you will need the IMEI/IMSI/MIN/ESN of the phone/SIM tied to your account.

no phone

Hi all!
My friend's X8 has no problems. It's fine. Everything is good. Software is updated to the latest with that awful SE desktop application. I had a HD2 and an SGS2 so I know the big picture about android phones. BUT. It can not connect to any mobile networks. It's a locked phone to T-Mobile Hungary. It can find the actual carrier list, but can not connect.
Please help me guys
So you need to unlock it. Look at this thread.
If I decypher the original message: cannot connet to ANY mobile networks, jut sees them, but as a fact it is locked.
It it can connect to T Hungary, then there isn't any problem with the device, it's just locked.
If cannot connect to T Hungary and anything else, but sees them, that is a softwer problem in my opinion (not a dev).
It can be unlocked for $9.99 here: LINK (don't like to advertise)
They are doing a maintenance at the moment, but should be done with it sooner or later.
it can see all networks, but cant connect to any of them. not even tmobile. are there any chance that the carrier put the imei to a black list for any reason?
btw the phone was working fine, but suddenly it was unable the connect to the cellular network.
sry for my english

[Q]Spoof device make/model to service providers

1. Please I'd like to know how service providers read our device specs from our android devices. How do they automatically know the make and model of your device from the sim card and is there a way to spoof your device so they see it as another device?
2. Is there any android app that can deceive your carrier/service provider into thinking you use a blackberry. That is, change your phone model. Is there? Or a specific file that sends the info through the sim that I can play with.
Reason being that BlackBerry subscription in my country is 5 times cheaper than normal data subscription for android (rip off). We were able to initially use blackberry.net APN alongside with a BB subscriptions but the service providers found a way to detect the phone as non BB devices and blocked the APN. If only they can see my phone as a Z10 device I'm sure APN will work normally again.

Baseband Version Unknown

So I recently bought a phone off of Kiijiji,... yeah I know bad idea don't get me started
I did a lot of searching and the phone is unlocked but will not connect to my providers network, telus, and I am using their network mode, WCDMA.
Now I have a feeling that the problem lies in the Baseband version. I did a google search on it but it came up with only 2 results. One being a random forum talking about how to root a Chinese phone so I assumed the phone itself was from China (a counterfeit or not) either way all the phones that come from China have dual sim, which mine does not.
This brings me to my question, does anyone know where or what the baseband model G900ZCUBMI3 is ?
