EDIT:
I reset the router and pulled out the battery and the sim card and fired it up again and it worked.
Thanks for looking.
GS5 will not connect to home wifi. Right below the ssid it says unable to obtain IP address. When I opened advanced wifi settings I noticed my IP address is unavailable.
I also got a warning AP currently not in use. Internet might be slow. Internet is working fine on my laptop.
Please see attached screenshots.
GS4 is connecting just fine to the home wifi.
Any help is verymuch appreciated.
Thanks

Having looked through the forums i'm not alone in this problem?,i have always been able to connect to the internet through my home wireless network and veiw wap sites while out & about, until yesterday i can now no longer connect to my network? All i have done is to configure it so as to be able to browse the web via gprs via a remote server as shown in a thread on this site. That worked a treat but now no wireless access, just keeps connecting but not able to connect. tried various fixes as stated in numerous threads, no joy. put it back to original config still the same. as far as i (novice) can tell it can't get a ip address of my linksys WRK54G router. haven't touched that so doubt if that is at fault. All other laptops in house still able to connect? DOH Any advice would be appreciated. Going to check on brothers network if it can connect? will let you know.
It would help if you post links to whatever advice you followed to change settings, so we would know exactly what you were trying to do.
On a side note we have a linksys router at work (fortunately not on the main network) and sometimes it refuses to let my Jamin connect for no reason until I reset it. (Pulling the power supply does the trick)
I know it is not much of a solution, but worth a shot (router configuration will not be effected) specially if you manage to connect to your brothers network.
Sorry here is link, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=269023&highlight=T-Mobile+GPRS.
Also had error message appearing about ip address not being assigned, after/during activesync? fixed this. Could it be related?.
When connecting to network all details show correct in the WiFi settings page, but in the advanced tab ip is 0.0.0.0 and status assigned to network. If i tap renew nothing happens?. Hope this helps tia
Guess you would like to no how i fixed the other problem, "http://groups.google.co.uk/group/microsoft.public.pocketpc/browse_thread/thread/d6df3cc438b9ca5f/8bd321e9d0200967%238bd321e9d0200967?sa=X&oi=groupsr&start=0&num=3"
Have got it working, tried powering down wireless router - no change, thought about a hard reset, not today thanks, tried a soft reset, bingo! it works. swear i had already tried that??, thanks for help great forum.
Oops Must have been a hiccup, was still unable to surf web through WiFi, managed it once then kept getting message unable to connect, check connections. Finally sorted it.
Set up internet connection through my ISP using o2 payandgo details, but with out proxy server info. Kept gprs settings the same in My Work Network.Seems ok after a couple of minutes testing.
If anyone needs the exact settings send me a message and I will post them.
For some reason I can connect to the internet very easily through GPRS (even when roaming), but at home with my own wirelss LAN, I can connect with no problem, but each time I try to access anything on the internet, I get a pop-up stating "Could not locate remote server". I don't have a router, I am using a desktop as the gateway, I am currently accessing the net with my laptop through the same means. All configurations for the LAN appear to be correct, but I must be missing something on the JAMin. In the WiFi settings, I see the LAN, almost full signal - Ad hoc Mode - status is connected - I'm assigned an IP ... seems like everything is in order.
Will one of you wizards point out what I've missed? I know it's probably simple, usually is.
If I'm having trouble connecting a device to a network that has previously been working ok, the first that I do is turn off all network security i.e WEP, MAC address filtering etc. Then reboot the wireless access point/router and your device. If you still can't connect, you can start to blame your device.
Don't think it's a network prob...
Thanks Matterhorn, but my laptop is still connected fine, no problems there... I get the feeling that the PPC's only recognising the GPRS as a valid network for internet access... it works okay when I login to a commercial WiFi network (when I'm in the States) but for some reason on my own network here at home, it logs in, just can't find a server for some reason. The first thing I thought of was the firewall, turned it off and still no luck.
Any other ideas? I thought maybe there was a setting for default AP or connection, but can't find it, nor can I find an appropriate reference in the manual. Ugh!
Resolved!
It would seem my JAMin was trying to access the internet not through the gateway, but through my laptop. As I don't have the laptop setup to share an internet connection, it would allow my JAMin to connect, but that was all. I went in the room where my desktop is, registered on the network there and bingo!
Too simple, should have tried that right away but it didn't occur to me at the time. Thanks for the help anyway Matterhorn!
Hello to all
I have problems trying to connect through wifi on my new 8125.
After reading a lot of threads, i downloaded a program called hitchiker, who solves the wifi connection a lot easier and faster, but i keep getting the same error, the wifi connection appears, it connects but can not solve the ip address with the dhcp server and fails...
Can anyone told me if this is a hardware problem or a firmware issue?
my router is a netgear WG602 v2 with the last firmware available.
Thanks and happy new year to all!!
ddo you have mac filtering on? if so try turning it off
No, i used to have a wep security password, but i reset all settings on the router to factory, to try to connect.
i also have a laptop and a psp and both connect great!!
dont know what the problem is here, but its frustating...
I make it to work
first i did a hard reset, then i check on the log of the access point, and it was going through and forwarding the connection to the adsl router, but the problem apparently was on the dhcp server on the router.
i add a fixed ip, and now it works
still not working on dhcp but at least its working...

I'm having almost the same problem.
First I've tried to connect on my open lan in my house. I could connect, but couldn't get an IP automaticaly.
Today I went to the mall to try some open wifi lan. A friend of mine, with a Nokia n80 succsessfully connected with one of the hotspots. I've tried and couldn't get an IP. Suddenly, don't know why, I got connected, but couldn't surf at the web.
Then I realized that the fixed Ip that I've set before was still on. Changing it for dinamic didn't work.
So, I still can't get an IP.
Any Ideas?
Hello,
Well I hope I'm putting this post in the right place, if not please move it. I have a 8525 with cingular. I need vpn access for my office connection from my laptop. We use a Fortiwifi 60 with the Forticlient software for VPN access. I used it with the old wireless modem settings on my 8525 and it worked with both wap. and isp. I recently upgraded to the new offical rom and used it fine (without trying the VPN access) for a few weeks. I went on my first trip last week and could not connect to the vpn. It would verify PSK and X-AUTH but fails to pull an ip address. I tried it with a static ip and it failed as well. When I check my connection monitor it shows no data coming back from my vpn gateway. I tried it on the hotel's internet and it works fine. I also tried another wifi signal and it worked as well. I changed the media net settings to go through isp instead of wap but that didn't help. Does anyone else have this problem with there VPN settings? I wonder if it is the new type of connection sharing or a change to the Cingualr network? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I had the same problem with another IPsec client with this ROM. For some reason I could not get Internet Connection sharing to work when connected via USB. Bluetooth pan worked. The VPN client was not binding to the ICS/usb adapter. I have since upgraded to WM6...Sleuths ROM...and USB/ICS now works.
Well I tried the phone on another computer and the vpn works just fine. I guess it's something on that computer. Anyone have any ideas? I'm going to try reinstalling the virtual adapter in hopes that it is a binding issue (thanks to tco for that). I'll let you know if I figure it out.
I just got the phone and it won't connect to my router i've done just about everything i've tried everything and i still can't seem to be able to connect to my wifi please help

It might be a problem with the router itself, or the passphrase you're entering could be incorrect? Please try connecting the phone to another WiFi hotspot when available and see this works.
the problem might be with the router because i was able to connect to the router where my dad works, but my home one it won't.
I use belkin router and not sure how to fix it anymore though
Some basic troubleshooting questions:
1. Can your phone connect to other routers? If so, are they secured or open?
2. Can other devices connect to your router reliably?
3. Is the error actually that it fails to obtain an IP or that it fails to connect or authenticate? IP address assignment happens after successfully authenticating with wireless security, so if the actual error is that it can't obtain an IP, that implies that something is wrong with your DHCP configuration, likely on the router.
