Yo all!!
ok.. i have been trying to get my phone to connect Via HTC sync V2 and latest V3 but have been told that it will not work as we are not using Sence? (FroydVillain 1.5)
if so... i need a little help....
With HTC Sync (before Froyd..), i could get the phone to use the computers internet.
Is there any way of doing this without Sync?
Cheers all
Simple as that! You have FV 1. 5!!!! Just connect the usb cable and enable tethering under >setting >wireless connection, you can now use wireless or 3G with your pc... ;-)

yes i can see that aps will cost if you've got no data plan with a smart phone, i did have to abort a few auto updates when i was on holiday and being charged roaming rates and now routinely set them to off. If it was me I would look for the apk files from and load them from the sd card or failing that walk the streets looking for an open wifi
had a quick google and found this , hope it help the op

Question, I haven't got internet set up yet at my new place and I want to set up my wife's laptop for tethering off my aria, cm6.1 rc1 so just wondering what driver I need to install to get the tethering to work. It works on my desktop but I've never had my phone hooked up to her laptop. Any help with this is greatly appreciated...

So i'm running CM7 and I was at the airport yesterday with no free wifi. I used the USB tethering feature built into CM7 which happened to work just fine.
However, i am just wondering, is there anyway t-mobile will know i'm tethering?
Heard yes and no, never been billed for tethering through my carrier

AFAIK, no. There has been no definitive answer to this. However, I don't believe T-Mo has any "long armed reach" into your phone. All they are is a carrier. They provide you a signal, what you do with that signal is up to you. All they should see is a steam of data to various points on the internet on their end.
Now, if these points happens to be things like a WoW server or CoD server; aka things that 100% can't run on your phone -- maybe they would have some info. Surfing, email, and downloading should all be totally innocuous though.
I don't see it mentioned on any of the preorder sites, but it's listed in the detail specs on Motorola's website.

Yes, but its agps...if you want directions you have to get those while connected to the internet.

Not if you have a sat nav app with preloaded maps...
This GPS talk is one of the reasons I went with the 3G/4G version. It is nice to be able to get mapping, restaurant locations, gas stations, hospitals, and all the other on the fly data. Not to say you can't download a map its just nice not having too. Its just at your finger tips. None of this has anything to do with the OP question so sorry OP..
any good ones to recommend? i cant find any maybe im using wrong keywords or im just bad at searching.......
You can pre-cache maps in Google Maps. Just make your route while you are connected to wifi and it will save it. It stays in the cache for a long time as far as i can tell.

I use google nav on xoom....which I find to be much better than using tomtom on my iphone...although tomtom was more customisable and worked seamlessly with any music app which is the only thing I miss.....but here is a site i found helpful....breaks down all your options with pros and cons....I'm guessing tomtom/I go/garmin don't want to fuss with making an overpriced turn by turn navigation app for us android users when we get a pretty damb good one for free....

Well of course I'm talking from my own experience. The EVO I believe can only do data or voice not both at the same time unless I'm connected to 4G.

thats because of CDMA limitations. GSM networks do data+voice simultaneously.
Wifi From Wife's Phone
@wildfan2k
Make sure your wife's phone supports infrastructure mode or is a Droid. Xoom does not like to tether with most Rooted Wifi options. Droid on the other hand can offer bluetooth tethering that Xoom does recognize.
Google navigation works awesome!

Try Copilot from ALK
Trying everything in the market that's free. All of the apps I found claim to be working but my PS3 can't see them.
Anyone else with this problem?

Have you tried Barnacle?
Do you BONSAI?
You're not trying to play games online through your phone's connection are you? Cause if so you will fail miserably.
Not sure, but I don't think the PS3 can connect in ad-hoc mode. Are you sure you're using an app that supports infrastructure mode, and is configured to operate that way?
Every one I've ever used has operated in ad-hoc mode...

I have tried barnacle without success. I did manage to finally get wireless tether working through the default wireless tether app that comes with asc roms.
Now all I have to do is improve my 4g signal strength. Thinking about overclocking a tower or two. ;p

**HERES HOW TO TETHER YOUR DATA TO YOUR PS3**
First you must tether to your laptop (if you have one). Then what you do is get an ethernet cable (cheap on ebay) and hook it from your laptop to your PS3.
Then you have to share your data from your laptop to your PS3. I can't say exactly how to do it on your laptop cause I don't know what kind you have so you will have to look up how to share your internet connection from your laptop to other devices.
Thats pretty much the short explanation. Look up on youtube "how do i tether to ps3" and you will see exactly what to do. Thats how I figured it out
