I don't see it mentioned on any of the preorder sites, but it's listed in the detail specs on Motorola's website.

Not if you have a sat nav app with preloaded maps...

This GPS talk is one of the reasons I went with the 3G/4G version. It is nice to be able to get mapping, restaurant locations, gas stations, hospitals, and all the other on the fly data. Not to say you can't download a map its just nice not having too. Its just at your finger tips. None of this has anything to do with the OP question so sorry OP..

any good ones to recommend? i cant find any maybe im using wrong keywords or im just bad at searching.......

You can pre-cache maps in Google Maps. Just make your route while you are connected to wifi and it will save it. It stays in the cache for a long time as far as i can tell.

I use google nav on xoom....which I find to be much better than using tomtom on my iphone...although tomtom was more customisable and worked seamlessly with any music app which is the only thing I miss.....but here is a site i found helpful....breaks down all your options with pros and cons....I'm guessing tomtom/I go/garmin don't want to fuss with making an overpriced turn by turn navigation app for us android users when we get a pretty damb good one for free....

thats because of CDMA limitations. GSM networks do data+voice simultaneously.

Wifi From Wife's Phone
@wildfan2k
Make sure your wife's phone supports infrastructure mode or is a Droid. Xoom does not like to tether with most Rooted Wifi options. Droid on the other hand can offer bluetooth tethering that Xoom does recognize.

Google navigation works awesome!

welll i had an HD2 before and was using Garmin XT kinda got spoiled by the british voice if anyone can change that, that will be great
In the voice settings you can set all TTS stuff on the phone to UK English (British Accent).
Or you can pay to get I think its called vox tts something like that it has tons of pretty good voices however they all cost money.

Get Co-Pilot, best money ever spent. The map data gets stored on your SD card 1.1GB for North America. The best part is not it does not use wireless data to get maps. It has all the fancy voice options you want.... 4 in british i believe (I use one myself ;-))
I thought the Desire Z with sense downloads the Google maps to the SD like a pre-fetch. Is there something like that for the G2?

The problem with Google and Waze and some of the other "free" options are that they all require a data connection. Unfortunately, when I need GPS the most is in places where cell phone signals are weak/non-existent... I used TomTom for ever on WM.

[Q] My HTC MyTouch 3G is missing wi-fi as a feature!

I just bought a new unlocked HTC MyTouch 3G from Newegg this past President's Day weekend,
"contract free". The specs list it as having Android OS v1.5:
newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875502055&cm_re=mytouch_3g-_-75-502-055-_-Product
I intended to just use my existing T-Mobile prepaid account and just enjoy the phone using wi-fi. The problem is, I cannot log into Google using the phone b/c I don't even see wi-fi as an option. One of the big reasons I bought this phone was to use wi-fi to get my apps. I don't need 3G service.
So what can I do?
HTC MyTouch 3G unlocked (white) w/ 3.5mm jack
This phone doesn't offer the option of enabling wifi to login to your Google account during the startup. It also won't let you get into the ROM without logging in. You should be able to purchase a one-day data plan with your prepaid SIM for $2 from the activation menu to get logged in. Everything else after that you will be able to use wifi for. If, for whatever reason, you need to do a factory reset in the future, you'll have to do the same thing again.
EDIT: Secondly, I highly suggest reading through this post to learn a little bit about your phone.

That's still talking about the four corners trick which doesn't work on stock ROMs, and that's also talking about a custom ROM which a totally different ball game. If he was to root, he could simply bypass the login screen by hitting home and enable wifi, but where he's sitting at right now he'd have to use the goldcard method (which means having to borrow a friends phone running Android to make the goldcard) which is a lot more time consuming then just dropping two dollars on a day pass.
Yes, where there's a will there's a way, but in this case the way is the one I provided. Trust me, I've been heavily involved with this device for a while now (well in electronics time).

So I've been using Barnacle to tether to my laptop at work when I get bored. Yesterday I went to login to facebook and Whamo! A TMobile splash page pops ups talking about getting a tethering plan! If you have a custom ROM (Most of them added this in) you can use the stock Samsung AP:
Settings--> Wireless and Network--> Mobile AP. Then go to settings, set up your SSID and security phrase, check to enable, enjoy.
Been using it sparingly at work when I need to get around the firewall, worked as of about 45 minutes ago.

If you are still getting the splash page its possible that you tether wayy too much and T-Mobile has flagged your account for tethering exorbitantly.
On average how much data do you reckon you tether on a monthly basis? (btw im tethering right now to send this message) I tether roughly 1-2 gig at most per month but its spread out over the course of the month.
If you dont tether that much or that often i would suggest starting fresh with a clean install of another or the same rom, if that still doesnt work it sounds like you are SOL.

I agree with you about the Mobile AP, it's the best. The people who contribute to this Vibrant Forum are also awesome, the amount you have taught me thank you.
Kept my Vibrant (in soft brick at the moment but will fix it) but got hung up in the moment at a TMO store and bought the SGS 4G. Couldn't let go of the Vibrant so was playing with both. The Vibrant is going to be a hard phone to do better on! Off to return the now unrooted SGS 4G to exchange for a different phone or just return. This Vibrant forum spoiled me and then to see what's going on on the SGS 4G forum is just sad.
Here you are apologizing or explaining yourself which is was really nice, on the SGS 4G forum all they do is blast people. I will being hitting the Thanks button more after my experience over there. Thanks for all you've done to contribute to this forum.
I have read posts of others getting this page randomly using every tether app regardless ie, Mobile AP, Barnacle, wifi tether. Once in a while i might have to reset my settings or turn off/on tethering and it werks again but its just for a bad connection never the "Tmobile tethering plan" page.
I have been capped once before and received the dreaded throttle down txt message. It only affected my tether ability the phones internet really didn't take a hit at all. At least not noticeably. Other than the throttle down (which has nothing to do with Mobile AP werkin and is totally my fault) I personally have not had any issues with it.
Still get the tmo splash page on my laptop at work..... but can get internet just fine at home on my iMac..... both using AP.... weird

I am wondering the same thing. Here is one important difference.
Net Talk - You will not receive a phone number-outgoing calls only
GrooVe IP - app supports making and receiving calls using Wi-Fi and/or 3G/4G data connections. It works via Google Voice.
I think I will take a chance on GrooVe IP.

I ran into that exact problem with wifi tethering in foxfi, too. Still looking for a fix
From what I can tell, bluetooth works for a basic internet connection (web browsing, etc) , but you can't do anything that requires a "wifi" connection, like downloading apps or streaming from google play services like music. It's a blessing and a curse, because it doesn't provide a full networked experience, but it saves you from potentially running through your data quota on intensive tasks which, if you have a 2GB plan like me, can be handy
