[Q] Can I revert to stock with ClockworkMod? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone is already rooted, and has ClockworkMod recovery installed. Can I just pop the stock firmware onto my extermal SD card, and flash it like I would any rom with CWM? Or do I have to use Odin?
Thanks in advance.

Can i backup my official samsung rom?

I have the international i9500 and i wanna install a custom rom (AOKP to be exact)
now my question is can i backup the official samsung rom and then return to it using recovery?
if i can so which recovery should i use? (CWM or TWRP)
i'm asking that because i couldn't backup the official samsung rom on any other device i had (S1 and S2 i9100) but maybe i did something wrong!
Anyone?

Afaik I don't think you can literally backup any ROM. U have to have a flashable copy of it be it .tar or .zip and just backup apps

You can try to backup in newest CWM.

You can do this from both type of recovery. Take backup on external sd card and save it to some where on HDD.
Yes flash a custom recovery (cwm etc) and backup from within there. If you ever need to reinstall, restore it also from cwm recovery and flash stock recovery and that's it. Burn to fully stock.

I think yes.. you can back up.. (maybe Im not sure with this one)
But before restoring your back up from stock and you are coming from aokp make sure that you flash first stock rom in odin to avoid problems..
The answer is No, you can't back up your stock unrooted rom.
You can however root it, install a custom recovery and backup the rooted rom on your phone. You will need to check if it was backed up on your internal drive 1st before flashing as you will loose it if you wipe the data on your phone.
You can also go to Sammobile.com and see if they have your rom there. Go to the firmware part then check your firmware at the top . It will ask you for you device (I9500) and country then give you the latest firmware available. You will need to register to download these roms...

You don't have to be rooted to flash / use a custom recovery. Therefore he can backup without rooting his device.
I did it myself before I rooted / customised my stock rom.

After rooting, I backup my stock rom to a external card before I start messing around. Just restore using CWM when u have a corrupted S4.

[Q] need a liitle help flashing i9505g google edition rom danvdh

Hello to everybody,
I´m pretty new here
but I managed somehow to flash my samsung s4 two months ago via odin. currently I run this rom I9505XXUEMI8-PRE-ROOTED-KNOX-FREE-ODEX-BOOTLOADER-FREE.
and now I´ve been trying to flash the 4.4 kit kat aosp google edition from danvdh
This doesnt work via odin?
so I tried via recovery, but there is no option to install/ flash rom from sd card.
and everytime I wipe all data it takes very long because my phone updates all appsbefore I can install titanium or rom manager.
what am I doing wrong?
thnx
You need to flash a custom recovery like cwm or Philz first. Than you can update from sdcard.
-DELETED-
yes, you need install a recovery rom on your phone. then install from recovery mode from sdcard on your phone.

Help change stock recovery / revert to stock recovery (CWM based recovery) [SOLVED]

Hello friends,
I have rooted Galaxy i9505 international. Installed CWM based recovery 6.0.3.2(0611), and flashed last stable CM (cm-10.2.1-jfltexx).
Boot time have become longer (way longer) since installing CWM based recovery.
Couldn't find a decent post about how to:
1) Revert back to stock recovery.
or
2) Change the CWM based recovery to official CWM.
Anyone know how to do either?
Or maybe had the same problem with CWM based recovery?

Did you consider trying a different recovery (PhilZ) or a different ROM?
Look for a recovery you want to try if its a zip file flash it with CWM and if its odin file flash it with odin.

The latest CM snapshot booted a bit faster.
Actually after all those attempts I can't really remember how long did it take to boot before installing CWM..
But it does seems slower.

I prefer to flash the original CWM.
How can I flash it on top of the CWM based recovery?
Files there are img files.
Look in xda development section you will find it zip format or i think you can download a zip file of another recovery and the replace the recovery within the zip file with the one you want to flash.
If you want to flash it in .img format you can do that with heimdall but you will need the pit file of 19505 too.

Could not find any ZIP of the official Clockworkmod Recovery.
Is there any other way to install it?
Or better yet, a way to revert to stock recovery (from there I can install as in the beginning)?
Btw, is it ok to just replace recovery? Or should I "uninstall" my old recovery before installing the new one?

It sounds like you have a bad download. Retry it and check the md5 with this. Download the ROM, check the md5, copy it to your extSD, reboot to SS and try again. If the ROM slot gives you problems try the stock slot. I always flash to the stock slot. The worst that will happen is you will have to Odin back to stock but most likely not if you have a backup on the extSD.
I've seen that. What version of Safestrap?
