anyway to update touch firmware without root access (verizon - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know how to access the hidden menu while rooted, but what about unrooted? And no , there is no dialer code on verizon variant. I would appreciate any input. Thanks

Don't think u can access it without being rooted. Which I could b wrong because it makes no sense for them to put the hidden menu in, and try to lock the phone down like they have. What version are u on? I know on ML1 & NC1 you have to edit the efs file "hiddenmenu" to unlock it. But on NE1 I never did that and it still works with *#0*# code ran thru the dialer.

[Q] Can not access root menu (*#197328640#)

Title basically says it all. Can do all other codes, anyone have any ideas why?
I'm in the same boat with my Rogers unlocked Focus.
no root menu
Same For me. I can do iust about anything else except root menu there was an update to the diagnostic menu via the market. I suspect they changed a few things.
I had the same. The best option is to uninstall Diagnosis. and get the old version using ##634#. do not update, and all codes should work.
I haven't been able to access root menu from day one (over a month ago). The codes for volume modification didn't work either until somone mentioned a differnet code for Rogers Smasung Focus. Other codes do work as well. This root menu one is baffling. Works for others but not for us.

Why can't my S4 dial codes?

I'm trying to try some methods to unlock my AT&T S4. I'm still on MDL firmware, it is rooted but I never unlocked it and now I really want to because I just came back from an overseas trip and didn't have use of my phone. However, all the methods require I be able to dial or enter into some kind of service mode like *#9090# or *#0011#. However after I hit the last # nothing happens, I hit the Call button and I see a USSD Code Runnning then 'Connection problem or invalid MMI'. I can't get anywhere without being able to enter into any of the service menus. Can anyone tell me why or how I can fix this?
Also, I wouldn't be opposed to updating to the latest firmware through AT&T (I disabled the OTA update pushing thing long ago) and then rooting and unlocking with the latest methods. Is this possible right now? But I still need to get the dialing code issue fixed I believe. I would still need to be able to crack through the AT&T wifi tethering feature in the phone which I have right now on MDL, its very important to me. If it can't be done on the latest firmware then I'll just have to wait another 6 months for my contract is up then AT&T will give me the sim unlock code.
Please Help!
Oh, and I just remembered AT&T actually provided me with a sim network unlock code which I didn't try to enter until I was overseas, about a year had passed already. The code didn't work and I actually found that it was just my IMEI#. I'm assuming that was never going to work anyways and whoever gave me that was just messing with me?
You can try flashing the MF3 modem through recovery and then running regionlockaway app. If that doesn't work, you can flash the stock MDL firmware using Odin. The firmware can be downloaded from sammobile site.
Doesn't your phone ask for a unlock code when you insert a different SIM card?

If I do this then will I lose root? If so will I be able to recover it?

Yes it does, but AT&T won't give me a code.

Flash the modem won't lose root. If you use Odin you will have root afterwards

Please Need good NVitem for N900V because my device is alwayes stay in 2G mode and need to fix it they play with and security ? they erase imei and i try tp rebulid NVM my problem not in datauser my problem inside block 17 and 18
Try doing a factory reset on your device. Or hook it up to your computer and flash current stock rom to your phone. Or if you dont want to be on the newest stock rom flash what ever stock rom you are currently on and then root and do whatever. That should fix your problem. I would try that first. Make sure you back up whatever data you dont want to loss. you could also look up how to get into the hidden menu and get into the part that you cansee what band you are on you should be on band 4. I havent played around with the hidden menus for a while and dont rem if you need root or not. This is a bit technical becuase you have to know the menus but the info should be available just by searchind hidden menu verizon note 3 in search bar on google or on xda. Sorry couldnt be more helpful.

possible to unlock i9505 on ee via changing cfw ? btu uk

i all to everyone don't know if this is correct in putting this post here . I have a Samsung galaxy s4 i9505 locked to ee tried a ×#0011#. And tried the long number to enter service mode. I can change it to 1. But I don't get the other menu to pop up. I've had an idea. I have tried looking for this method and I'm 50/50 weather it will work or not. As this as phone has got ee branded phone. If I installed a custom firmware btu version black edition . What the chances of unlocking it via the method above or would this phone still know in it a ee phone what are your thoughts regards James. I don't want to root the phone. I'm quite happy to put a btu black edition on the phone . I have used odin in the past on my old i9505 but that phone was already unlocked
Changing firmware will not unlock the phone. To get the proper menu to appear you have to downgrade the modem (or firmware) to Android 4.2.2, then use the service menu. If the service menu does not work, your only other alternative is to root while the modem is downgraded and run RegionLock Away.

I did the downgrade myself when I lost my SIM unlock. The service menu worked but I messed up somewhere and failed to unlock. RegionLock Away worked perfectly.

Dont know if this will help you but after *#0011# press back then key input and type Q0 instead of 1. wait a few seconds and should take you to the menu.

got Sprint to unlock now how to change carrier options.

OK, I finally got Sprint to uicc unlock my phone yesterday. Now I need to figure out how to change carrier options., any help would be greatly appreciated. Also now that it's carrier unlocked shouldn't I be able to access the hidden menus and stuff or can I only do that after root?
No getting unlock didnt change anything. It just unlocked the uicc slot for a different sim. Have to get another sim and pop in phone and then you can set ur apns for that network.
Nothing else gets "unlocked" and is nothing near the access root gives you.
That's what I thought ugh. But I've tried to do that and can't get the APN to save.... I've tried to edit it with##debug# I have my msl also. And I also like I idiot purchased a unlocking app off eBay and all it was is hidden menu apk. You can add APN with that but still don't save. I inserted my Verizon sim card in the phone and it shows me roaming for service. I'm going to root my phone hopefully tomorrow afternoon. Once I do that the way I understand it that I'll be able to change and access more things. Sorry I'm a newbie when it comes to rooting, can do a lot with phones but some stuff is all new learning experience

Dont need to root.
If you have msl you can use cdma workshop or another efs program. Need to change ur prl to a vzw one. Then set apns.
Root will fix the issue with apn not saving as the hidden menue stuff needs root to activate the right menues.
But you should be able to swap prl to vzw one and put in sim and do *228 to activate. But rooting will make easier.
Root and flash a vzw rom and profit instantly lol
Quick question? i have the vs997 and i rooted and flashed the vs996 to utilize my Verizon sim. I am able to access and edit apn settings, lte and such work fine but are you saying i could flash a verizon rom to this vs997 so i dont have to use the vs996 rom with the debug kernal?

OK I'm want root also cause I want to tinker lol, I love messing with the different menus and stuff. I'm kinda nervous to root cause will be first one and don't want to make expensive paper weight.... But I ran into some issues the other day with trying to root but didn't know needed SD card and couple other things. But like other guy said I can flash the VZW ROM and be golden? Also will I pick up all the band's that VZW towers put out?
