HTC Nexus 9 - Is It Finally Upon Us?! - Nexus 9 General

It may finally be that time my fellow Android and Nexus brethren, and sisters of course!
If you guys didn't know, the rumors for the next Nexus device have been slated for the end of Q3 and it's finally about that time. Whether it will be released or even announced still has not been confirmed officially, but if it does, it should be within the next couple of weeks through sometime in October. So far the rumored specs are as followed:
8.9-inch 2048 x 1440 Full HD display (4:3 aspect ratio)
NVIDIA Tegra K1 Quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM (64-bit)
16/32GB storage configurations
Android 4.5 or 5.0 (L Release)
8 Megapixel OIS rear and 3 MP front camera
Zero-gap aluminum unibody design
HTC signature front facing speakers
So, what should we expect? Also, what do you guys want to see in the next Nexus tablet and/or phone?

I keep searching the news for it, but its the same rumors over and over again.

Just wait for Htc event on 8th october

There's the 'announcement'.
In other words, it's not yet complete and Google L is not finished.
Today's HTC event turned out to have zero mention of the nexus 9.

If that is true then we wait 5 days to be unveiled.

I love the front facing speakers.
I love the HTC build quality.
But the display is to small, so the Nexus 9 is nothing for me :crying:
I hope, HTC will build a similar tablet with at least 10".
Until then, I stay with my old Nexus 10.

Nothing is impressive at CES 2013 now that I have the note2

Honestly nothing from what I've seen at ces 2013 regarding mobile makes me want it over my note2.
Anybody else feel the same?

I feel like "impressive" works on a 2 year cycle. Android and iPhones.
iPhone 4, big leap -> 4s, marginal upgrade -> 5, big leap (performance wise)
- 2010 saw a slew of ~1ghz, 512mb powerhouses that blew away the old 528mhz phones of 2009.
- 2011 saw a marginally faster dual core, mostly 512mb phones limited by RAM.
- 2012 saw incredible dual and quad core, 2gb phones that completely blew away 2011 phones.
- 2013 will see slightly different Tegra 4's, Exynos, and Snapdragons that boast impressive numbers but will be paired with 1 and 2gb RAM phones and see little to no real world performance differences.
- 2014 will see phones that are an enormous upgrade from 2013.
Just my thoughts. I bought my Note II to carry me into mid-late 2014, because I believe this to be true.
nothing interesting for now, very happy with 720P display because i think that 1080P display will consume a lot of battery and we will not notice any difference
The good things that i saw : The Tegra and Snapdragon cpu and the 13 MP camera on some devices but i will not change my Note 2 for this.
A dual core processor is enough now and we have quad core with a great battery life
Wholeheartedly agree with both of you. But I don't really understand why some manufacturers focus on a high number of camera megapixels, I'd rather have better optics and camera hardware than the ability to make large posters.

Same here. I wish manufacturers could spend more time on system optimization, UI design or software development rather than racing specs.

because ordinary buyer doesnt care about optics, they need higher numbers of everything and then they show their e-penis.... ;D
full hd display for smartphone? nah for me note 2 hd RGB display is more than enough, not so power hungry and display is gorgeous.
Note II is my first smartphone, and so far I think it'll last me for at least until 2014. And I won't submit into peer pressure when S4 arrives, but I hope I won't be too jealous when Note III comes out. After all, it's just 7 more months until the next IFA
After having phones since 1994, I can say the Note 2 is finally my perfect device.
The screen is brilliant, and the audio is sublime with the hack brovided by EdgaBimbam.
Can't think of anything close to the Note 2 right now!
The Xperia Yuga (Z) is getting focus, but Sony phones have major battery issues due to lack of optimization and a very power hungry out of date LCD.
Keith
And yet all of you are lining up to buy new Galaxy S 4 or Note 3 next year
But yeah its true that neither of them was revealed at the CES

okay I stand corrected. I just saw the Lenovo K900 and video and all I can say is wow. And some impressive specs.
The most interesting part for me is the announcement of octa core, thats just wow, s4 and note 3 will come with it.

And its water resistant up to 1 meter, great for those who use their phones while on the toilet haha.
Would be keen to hold the Huawei 6.1" to see how bigger it feels than the note ii.
The most exciting thing at CES for me is the Oculus Rift. Not mobile I know, but it looks pretty awesome.

[Q] Nexus 10 vs Next Nexus tablet vs Nexus 7?

Hi,
Recently I bricked my TF300T, so using it is (IMHO) no longer an option, even if it were to be replaced.
So I'm now considering purchasing either the Nexus 10 or the Nexus 7, or if there's enough reason to wait, the next Nexus tablet.
How well do the two compare in quality?
For those of you unfamiliar with the TF300T, it has a 1.3 GHz Nvidia Tegra 3, 1 GB RAM, and I got the one with the 16 GB internal storage.
For cameras it has a 1.2 front facing camera, 8.0 rear camera. 720p screen.
I've used the cameras before, so I'm not exactly excited about losing one, if I go with the Nexus 7, so I'm leaning towards the Nexus 10 at the moment.
How powerful are the CPU&GPU in the N10?
I would like to be able to run Adobe flash applications, like Prezi, on it.
Is the high PPI display on it as amazing as Google says it is?
How long does the battery last when on stock? And how long on Cyanogenmod?
Is the 5 MP camera on the back alright? I mean, it isn't webcam quality, right?
Thanks!
GTRsdk
The next Nexus tablet will simply be an update to the Nexus 7 model. It is due out in July and nothing but rumored specs right now until Google IO when specs become official.
I was in the same situation as you a week ago. I did a ton of research and bought a Nexus 10, and I owned a TF300 previously. Just do it. I'm very happy with the tablet and it's buttery smooth. I like the ipad screen a little better but as far as resolution goes the Nexus 10 is amazing.
Thanks for the information!
I sure am now wishing I purchased a Nexus 10 in the first place (it was either that or the TF300T when I was buying on November 24th).
Does anyone run a chroot on their Nexus 10?
How fast does it go?
I've owned both the tf300t and iPad retina and currently own the N10. I absolutely love the N10. Very fast, great battery life and screen. I went with it over the N7 because of screen resolution and faster processor.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium HD app
Nexus 7 will be announced next month, so it's worth the wait. It should defiantly have a 1080p screen and a better chip. Snapdragon 600 is currently the rumor as Tegra won't be able to ship the same time and if it keeps the price of £200. It's worth the wait!
I have to say that the price of a used Nexus 7 is very appealing.
Because I'm kind of wanting one for school, I think I'll go with the N7.
Unless, of course, if there's a reason not to.

Nexus 10 is a great device but sometimes I wish I went with nexus 7 for its portability and it easier to hold. If those aren't issues for you I say go for it.
Hold out for supposed N7 successor to be announced at I/O?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I would also hold off for the next gen Nexus 7.
The Nexus 10 just doesn't have anywhere near the support or community the Nexus 7 has and I am willing to bet the next gen will be just as popular as the original N7 based on the potential price alone.
I have thought about ditching my N10 if the next gen N7 has a 1080P screen, micro HDMI port, and hopefully better audio.

+1 here. I wouldn't even come close to buying the Nexus 7 again now with a refresh supposedly around the corner.
Then again, I'll be purchasing the Nexus 10 in the next few days - I would personally probably still go for that myself. That's my own preference, though.
I have both, my 4 year old inherited the n7 and all I use is the n10. Unless you are a hobbit the size isn't an issue. Can't you do both? RMA and get the n10?

Galaxy Nexus or Nexus 4?

I need your advice, is it better to buy Galaxy Nexus for 200 euros or Nexus 4 for 300 euros? Is it worth 100 euros of difference? Which has better autonomy?
I dont need such a powerful device like N4 and I am not really fan of glass. But again, N4 is newer, performing much better, personally looks better too.
What do you think?

I think n4 for many year..
Well I would have to say that if you have the money the Nexus 4 definitly, I'm saving up for the N4, eaven if for me the Galaxy Nexus is is the phone that I fell in love with so it's heartbraking not to have it...if you only want a new phone but don't want to spend a whole lot of money on one then the GNex is the best thing (for me it's the most wonderful, most sexy device)
Thank you.
Are these two devices has some obscure hardware bugs, or maybe annoyances?
I mean, for ex. I hate NS low power wifi.

The N4 has a glass back which is shatter resistent (meaning if you brake it it will burst in to little pieces of glass in order not to you, get in your eyes, cut your hand, stuf like that), but its not gorilla glass! Some argue that the screen (LCD IPS full HD) is better than the GNex (super Amoled) but some state that the stock android looks better on S-amoled screans with that infinite back contrast. For the GNex its the fact that like the Nexus S it has a curved screan meaning that they couldent put gorilla glass in it so they covered it up with oleofobic cloating (between the GNex not having gorilla on the front and the N4 having glass on the back the GNex wins case you don't put the phone with the screen on a surface ofton but the back is always in contact with the place you sit it on). Like you the fact that the N4 has quad core and the Nex has dual core isn't a big deal as I do not care for that, but what really makes me want the N4 over it's older brother is the 2GB of RAM over the 1GB of he GNex (if you have the Nexus S you probably saw that the singlecore device does pretty well when using 4.2 or 4.3 roms, but its he 512mb RAM that kills it - kowing Google they will probably suport the GNex for al lest the next 2years case it's still a kickass phone, but the N4 will have a longer life). The N4 is well known for heating up because of the all glass design if you use it too muck. My final advice to you is that you should buy a N4 and 3 seconds after that a good silicone case (not a bumper case the back will be left exposed and you want to look after the glass back not after the rubber sides of the phone)
Nexus 4 no doubt about it.

:good:
If this was last year I would say gnex, but since the next Nexus is just around the corner I say nexus 4 as it is guaranteed to be Supported longer and have functionalluly fast ROMs for a while. The Nexus S has many 4.3 ROMs but they are really slow unless you do some tweaking. The main thing limiting the gnex in the future is the 1gb of ram.
That being said gnex is a solid phone which runs 4.3 beautifully smooth. I suspect that the gnex has a year of official support. I mean the Nexus s was supported up until 4.1.2 and possibly look longer than it should as Google Now in my experience doesn't do so well with low memory device.

I don't live in the right place for buying Nexuses, I have hard time finding Nexus 4 with valid warranty and right price (almost 3 weeks now). Gnex is another story, but I also realized that I don't want Gnex
Now I'm thinking about Galaxy S4 mini also. I like the size, there is official Cyanogenmod support, very snappy device, good battery life, FM radio. But it's kinda overpriced, about 300€...

Xperia z2 replacement

After 2 years my z2 is up for replacing.
Checked all phone reviews and this is my thinking.
Samsung s6 - not waterproof but otherwise good
Anything with snapdragon 810 - avoid
Surely more options than this. Dont really know whats arriving soon, any ideas?
One plus two. Wait for the reviews. It's a beast of a phone.

I love my z2 but there are couple of annoyances: the USB flap, its really annoying to move it around every time I need to plug in usb, it feels like it could break easily. could be just my phone, but the battery life doesnt seem to be that good.
Im looking at one plus phones but im not sure about them yet
