I changed the file: /system/media/audio/ui/Dialer_new.ogg to another sound file
But my dialer pad still has the water drop sound.
I went through all the files in /system/media/audio/ui and replaced every sound file that has a water drop like sound and my dialer still has the water drop sound.
My Device : Rooted Galaxy S5 Virginmobile G900PVPU1ANE5
I used Root Explorer to do it.
Has anyone been able to change the sound?
..
It's pretty easy to change the dialer sound. You don't need to decompile SecContacts either. Open the archive with winrar, copy the ogg file to the raw folder, choose "store" as compression level. Put it back in system, priv-app, change permissions, reboot. Golden.
(I do want a different sound)
ffft - I did this and checked permissions - that does not work.
so I tried the way metalfan78 suggested - but
I have a SecContacts_Phone_FLAGSHIP_USA.apk AND a SecContacts_Phone_FLAGSHIP_USA.odex file
When I replace the file (touch_ripple.ogg) in raw (with a file of same name but different sound) and set compression as store - after I put SecContacts_Phone_FLAGSHIP_USA.apk (and set permissions) in the /system/piv-app dir
The Phone app crashes
I do not have just a SecContacts.apk file in /system/priv-app

I posted this all int eh captive section >.< but thought I would put it here in case the other vibrant users would like to know this...
I found the hard way of change the startup sound and shutdown sound, which can be confusing, but i'll try to explain (this is after you have root)
1) went into Astro and copied the file from etc called PowerOn.wav to my SDcard as backup
2) found a wav file I wanted to change for power on and named it PowerOn.wav and stored it on the root of my SDcard
3) downloaded terminal emulator from market
4) when I launched, superuser permissions granted it SU access
5) type the command 'su root' (without the ' of course)
6) then type the command 'cp /sdcard/PowerOn.wav /etc/PowerOn.wav' and hit the enter key
This changed mine to a cooler "system activating" wav file I found...this was my way and it worked, but would much rather know the simpler version of How to grant Astro superuser permissions.
PS I used Audacity to convert my mp3 to wav and ogg files...in case anyone wants to know a free software
Shutdown Video:
I think you can change the shutdown video by adding custom PNG files in the /system/media/video/shutdown folder, but I haven't tested yet...i'm trying to figure out what I was going to do for the video (has to be 14 PNG files...or 14 of them all named the same thing).
I'll be testing soon and letting you know if this works.
EDIT: SUCCESS!!!
I was able to create 14 PNG images and copy them from my SDcard to the /system/media/video/shutdown folder and now I have a new shutdown video...anyone have a sight I could upload the new shutdown PNG files too? I have a couple different ones I created...really basic, but a little nicer than the T-mobile default one.
EDIT...AGAIN: And the new shutdown video

Anchor reply for future information on this...possibly some shutdown videos
couldn't you just use root explorer and put the new wav file in the place of the old one with the same name? This is how I changed my boot animation. I'll try your way if mine doesn't work.
Thanks for this.
hey can you zip your shutdown file and give it to me without the sound? it looks badass, and the axura is pretty homo right now.
also are you sure this will work for vibrants?
my startup i changed from sdcard/system/media/...
Vibrant using simply honey 2.8
Im tryn to add a boot sound an cant figure it out please help there was no boot sound to begin with.. i made PowerOn.wav an tryed in system/etc and then tried media then ui nothings working am i naming this wrong or what Please help me out some on! pm me
How to do it - This is how I removed the camera, I think:
- I deleted all the camera related ogg files from system media ui
- I changed system csc custom.xml where it says camera shutter on to off (my guess is that this fixed it)
^If this does not work, read through the post and see what happened, maybe it was something else. Not sure as I have done so many things at once.

I live in Australia,
Although there is no law here for cameras to have a sound, Samsung thought that putting a permanent sound on would be a great idea. In reality it makes the camera useless.
So I wanted to remove the camera shutter sound and did this -this worked on my note 3-:
1. rooted the phone
2. went to system/app - removed samsung.camera.3.apk (or sth like that)
3. opened the app with winrar, went to res/raw and replaced all .ogg files with empty text files with the .ogg extension, identical to the ones with the sounds
4. put the app back in system/app
5. restarted the phone
---
problems:
A) the original samsung app has been replaced with the google stock one
B) when i go to system/app and try to open samsung.camera.3 it says " there was a problem parsing the package”.
* when i put the app with the changed ogg files on the SD card and try to install it from there it does not let me... it just ends up saying app not installed.
* if i put the samsung app with the original ogg files in system/app i still get the parse error... but if i try to install this one from the SD card it does get installed.
* if i take the .ogg files from the samsung app and put them back in my modified app it still doesnt let me install it from the SD card
(the install from unknown sources is clicked)
Please help me!
I have discovered that if I replace just shutter.ogg I can install that app from the SD card and the shutter sound is gone. However, the zoom click is not.
Based on this I guess the parse error is either:
a) as I put ogg files that were empty, the overall size of the app changed
b) samsung has some way of telling if you replace some files in that app
?!?!
LE: I have used zipsigner 1.1 to resign the app with the changed ogg files. Now I can install it from the SD card -still does not work inside system-, but it force crashes when I try to use it. I seriously do not understand what is going on.
On the Note 3 I just replaced the ogg files with empty renamed text files and it worked perfectly.
So now I have replaced all the ogg files with renamed working ogg files -not empty text files renamed- and it still force closes even if I can install the app after resigning it...
what the f is going on?
Another thing I noticed - inside the Note 3 camera app I dont see any classes.dex file which exists inside the Galaxy S5 camera app. Wonder why.
Any idea at all would be really appreciated!
LE; for some reason now it will not let me install the original samsung app anymore either. I have no freaking idea why not since I could install the original before. Now the installer runs and then it says app not installed. Unbelievable.
LE2: i have also edited customer.xml. Which is strange is that I had to disable knox first before being able to edit it. While on the Note 3 i could edit the file easily.
I just hold the power button down and put the phone onto vibrate or mute.

The thing is that there is a law in korea and japan that all cameras must make sounds. I guess they are too paranoid (stupid) when it comes to privacy. This law does not exist in America or Europe. That is why in those areas you can put it on mute or silent and there is no camera sound anymore. Unfortunately, for some messed up reason, HTC and Samsung send „Oceania”-zone phones to Australia. And they come with no way to turn that sound off, even if there is no legal requirement here.
---
Anyway, my biggest problem now is that it will not let me install the original samsung app anymore either. And I do not understand why. All I did was install and uninstall modified camera apk. So why cant I install the original one anymore?!
Ok so...
I went to the Applic Manager, All apps and then emptied the cache for a lot of processes that seemed related to installing stuff or cameras.
After that I could Install the original camera app from the sd card again.
Surprisingly enough I see that now I can finally mute the camera.
This is either because:
- I deleted all the camera related ogg files from system media ui
- I changed system csc custom.xml where it says camera shutter on to off (my guess is that this fixed it)
...
Anyway so now the sound is gone and the original app back.
The sound is also gone in the google app. I couldn't turn it off in this app either before.
So yeah...

I am rooted. I copied the original shutter.ogg and shutter_multiple.ogg to my Mac. With Audacity I opened the files and amplified the whole stream by -50dB (so its totally silent). Then I safed these files as ogg and put them back to /system/media/audio/ui. What I did exactly was I first renamed the original souds and put the new files there afterwards so I did not overwrite any file. Then I changed the attributes to 644 and it worked without a reboot.
I am in germany and here we have the same law like in korea. So you cannot turn of the shutter sound in settings of the camera.

Click to collapse
Are you sure? cause last year I used the firmware for Germany on the S4 to mute the camera...
I tried this method, but I don't have a custom.xml file. The closest I have is a customer.xml file. And it doesn't have a shutter setting in it to turn off.

Many people have a problem with this and don't know what to do.
I think the charging sound of the Sony Xperia Z2 is really annoying and useless. It makes the device feel cheap (at least for me).
So I explored some folders and files in my phone, and I finally found the fastest way to disable the sound.
Turns out there were some other sounds in there too!
Basically you need a rooted phone and a root explorer. I use Cheetah Mobile's File Manager but you can use anything you want.
Enable Root Exploring and then navigate to /system/media
You can see here that there is also the boot animation file.
Move on to /system/media/audio/ui
Find the ChargerPluggedIn.ogg file
Rename to ChargerPluggedIn.bak (basically you change the extension)
Reboot device, and there you go! You can also disable any other annoying sounds from there if you want.
Note: To restore any sound you disabled, rename it back to FILENAME.ogg or whatever the extension was, then reboot.
Hello,
I was wondering if there was a way to change the water drop sound when using the keypad dialer, I know you can turn it off, but I would really like to throw in my own sound file in there if possible. I am on a stock 5.0 TW ROM, rooted. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know, thanks.
Get a sound you like, rename it Dialer_New.ogg and copy it to /system/media/audio/ui and overwrite the original one. Backup the original sound first.
I use a different method
-Copy SecContacts_Phone_FLAGSHIP_USA.apk (or similar) from system/priv-app to your desktop
-Open with winrar or 7zip (no need to extract or decompile)
-Navigate to res/raw
-The ogg file is called Touch_ripple. It should be the only one
-Rename any sound to Touch_ripple.ogg and copy to res/raw, choose 'store' as storage method
-Close and push to system/priv-app, fix permissions, reboot
This is the only method that has worked for me. If replacing Dialer_New works I would like to know.
I just recently rooted my Samsung Galaxy S5 I tried using ES File Explorer to change the System/Media/Audio/Ui sound files. Some sound files worked and some didn’t (format can’t be read ). I was wondering if each separate sound file is limited to how long it can be or if it can’t play files passed 93DB or say use the same sound for all the Camera functions (start/stop/click). I changed the db to 93 for all my mp3 files converted them to ogg and renamed them to the appropriate name to overwrite the existing file. I ended up replacing the original sound files back onto the phone since I am not 100% sure if I changed the right sound files and some just didn't work.
The only sounds I want to change are the low battery, lock, unlock, power on, volume control, and the back/task manager/touch buttons which all have the same sound. I believe the files are: Lock.ogg, LowBattery.ogg, Poweron.ogg, TW_Volume_control.ogg, Unlock.ogg. I think the back/task manager/touch buttons are S_HW_Touch.ogg and TW_Touch.ogg, but not 100% sure. For example does Lock.ogg have to be less then 1 second if not format can't be read? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
