Remove camera shutter sound [solved] / Parse Error - Galaxy S5 - - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How to do it - This is how I removed the camera, I think:
- I deleted all the camera related ogg files from system media ui
- I changed system csc custom.xml where it says camera shutter on to off (my guess is that this fixed it)
^If this does not work, read through the post and see what happened, maybe it was something else. Not sure as I have done so many things at once.
-------------------- Original post:-------------------------------------------------------------
I live in Australia,
Although there is no law here for cameras to have a sound, Samsung thought that putting a permanent sound on would be a great idea. In reality it makes the camera useless.
So I wanted to remove the camera shutter sound and did this -this worked on my note 3-:
1. rooted the phone
2. went to system/app - removed samsung.camera.3.apk (or sth like that)
3. opened the app with winrar, went to res/raw and replaced all .ogg files with empty text files with the .ogg extension, identical to the ones with the sounds
4. put the app back in system/app
5. restarted the phone
---
problems:
A) the original samsung app has been replaced with the google stock one
B) when i go to system/app and try to open samsung.camera.3 it says " there was a problem parsing the package”.
* when i put the app with the changed ogg files on the SD card and try to install it from there it does not let me... it just ends up saying app not installed.
* if i put the samsung app with the original ogg files in system/app i still get the parse error... but if i try to install this one from the SD card it does get installed.
* if i take the .ogg files from the samsung app and put them back in my modified app it still doesnt let me install it from the SD card
(the install from unknown sources is clicked)
Please help me!

I have discovered that if I replace just shutter.ogg I can install that app from the SD card and the shutter sound is gone. However, the zoom click is not.
Based on this I guess the parse error is either:
a) as I put ogg files that were empty, the overall size of the app changed
b) samsung has some way of telling if you replace some files in that app
?!?!
LE: I have used zipsigner 1.1 to resign the app with the changed ogg files. Now I can install it from the SD card -still does not work inside system-, but it force crashes when I try to use it. I seriously do not understand what is going on.
On the Note 3 I just replaced the ogg files with empty renamed text files and it worked perfectly.

So now I have replaced all the ogg files with renamed working ogg files -not empty text files renamed- and it still force closes even if I can install the app after resigning it...
what the f is going on?
Another thing I noticed - inside the Note 3 camera app I dont see any classes.dex file which exists inside the Galaxy S5 camera app. Wonder why.
Any idea at all would be really appreciated!
LE; for some reason now it will not let me install the original samsung app anymore either. I have no freaking idea why not since I could install the original before. Now the installer runs and then it says app not installed. Unbelievable.
LE2: i have also edited customer.xml. Which is strange is that I had to disable knox first before being able to edit it. While on the Note 3 i could edit the file easily.

I just hold the power button down and put the phone onto vibrate or mute.

The thing is that there is a law in korea and japan that all cameras must make sounds. I guess they are too paranoid (stupid) when it comes to privacy. This law does not exist in America or Europe. That is why in those areas you can put it on mute or silent and there is no camera sound anymore. Unfortunately, for some messed up reason, HTC and Samsung send „Oceania”-zone phones to Australia. And they come with no way to turn that sound off, even if there is no legal requirement here.
---
Anyway, my biggest problem now is that it will not let me install the original samsung app anymore either. And I do not understand why. All I did was install and uninstall modified camera apk. So why cant I install the original one anymore?!

Ok so...
I went to the Applic Manager, All apps and then emptied the cache for a lot of processes that seemed related to installing stuff or cameras.
After that I could Install the original camera app from the sd card again.
Surprisingly enough I see that now I can finally mute the camera.
This is either because:
- I deleted all the camera related ogg files from system media ui
- I changed system csc custom.xml where it says camera shutter on to off (my guess is that this fixed it)
...
Anyway so now the sound is gone and the original app back.
The sound is also gone in the google app. I couldn't turn it off in this app either before.
So yeah...

I am rooted. I copied the original shutter.ogg and shutter_multiple.ogg to my Mac. With Audacity I opened the files and amplified the whole stream by -50dB (so its totally silent). Then I safed these files as ogg and put them back to /system/media/audio/ui. What I did exactly was I first renamed the original souds and put the new files there afterwards so I did not overwrite any file. Then I changed the attributes to 644 and it worked without a reboot.
I am in germany and here we have the same law like in korea. So you cannot turn of the shutter sound in settings of the camera.

Are you sure? cause last year I used the firmware for Germany on the S4 to mute the camera...

I tried this method, but I don't have a custom.xml file. The closest I have is a customer.xml file. And it doesn't have a shutter setting in it to turn off.

[Q] Camera Sounds

Hey Guys
I have a Galaxy note 3 N9005 , rooted and still running stock rom
from my previous android devices i know that deleting the camera sound files or modifying the name will prevent the camera
form making sounds such as focus and shutter etc...
so using root explorer i went to system/media/audio/ui and i added .bak to all the camera sound files and rebooted the phone
but still all the sounds were there , so i deleted the files camera_shutter_ogg and all the ones similar
since my device (and many others by region) dont have the option in the settings to do it
even after this method
adding this line of code <CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>true</CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu> to others.xml in system/csc
after that i tried using some apps but nothing worked and i am assuming its because the files are no longer there because i deleted them
and then after i used the Wanam xposed method but still no results and i am pretty sure its because the files are not there because it adds .bak at the end of their names to disable them
so now i am stuck with the sound , honestly i dont know how the sound is playing since the files are not even there.
And I know I can get another camera from the play store with no sound but I want to keep using the stock one
any help regarding this issue is highly welcomed
There are sound files within the camera apk. I tried modifying them earlier but when I replaced the stock apk, it would not launch. Had to reflash stock to return it. If you find out how to do it, please let me know. From what I've read, the camera sounds you deleted are only the ones from the front facing camera.

[Q] Stock UI sound change

My phone is rooted, I can successfully write to /System/media/audio/ui. I have created my own .ogg files. They play on the phones media player just fine. Once I place them into the /System/media/audio/ui directory they no longer can be played. What might I be doing wrong. I am trying to change the water drop sound when pressing the back button. I realize I can turn it off, but I want to actually change it.
I would also like to note that when I move the .ogg files out of the /System/media/audio/ui directory they begin to be playable again.
They have the exact same name including capitol letters, the same permissions, and still not working after a reboot? Can you play the files with the stock music player?

I can play the files until I move them into the system directory. While they are in the system directory they will not play. When I move them back into other directories they play. They do have the same names. Permissions I didn't think to check or look into. I will have to check the permissions of the files I am creating.
Permissions were the issue. I changed the permissions and now everything works. Thank you.

One sound I can't seem to find is the unlock sound. I see the unlock.ogg but that doesn't seem to be the actual sound that is being used to unlock my Note 3. I've listened to all the system sounds yet can't seem to find it.

[Q] OGG Files doesn't work anymore

When I was in firmware NE2 I changed my OGG system sounds simply changing the files in system>media>ui with root explorer.
Now I upgraded to firmware NG5 and when I change the sound files I can't hear it anymore.
Any ideas?
There doesn't appear to be anyone else reporting this yet, so it's probably just your phone. Try restoring your backup to confirm that it is the update and not something else that has changed or corrupted your file association.
Not making backups? Well that isn't a good habit. Try wiping the system cache from recovery mode. If you can see that a certain app tries to play the ogg file, then go to the application manager menu and click on "clear defaults" for that app. Or try using or installing a full featured audio player app and use it to set the ogg file association to an audio player. Or you could do the more drastic step of initializing all user settings by doing a factory data reset.
If all else fails and in the absence of a working backup then start over by writing a full stock, pre-update firmware image with Odin, followed by a factory data reset.
..
fffft, Thanks for your reply.
Just to know that this issue is happening with 5 others friends that have the Galaxy S5.
Just 2 things more...
1. If I restore the original ogg file then it works well
2. If I restore back to the firmware NE2, than I can replace any ogg file and it works well also.

We don't hear reports of problems with anyone using standard sound files. Apparently only to your friends that are trying to manipulate your sound files. And all of you probably doing so in the identical way and incurring the same esoteric error.
It's not impossible to change sound files, but you haven't provided nearly enough information to do more than guess. It's probably a permissions issue or possibly your replacement sound files are formatted or use a codec that is incompatible with the newer firmware. Or any number of less likely reasons.
Unless you provide a lot more information about file versions, file permissions, verbatim error messages, links to before and after ogg files, a step by step and detailed description of how you tried to make the changes and so forth.. it's almost impossible to know what is going on.

I agree when you say about permissions or file versions that work with the old firmware but not wit the new.
Do you know where I can find custom ogg files "S_HW_Touch.ogg" and "TW_Touch.ogg" to try with the new firmware?
Thanks again.
You can try these, they work fine on my up to date sprint model

Thank you metalfan78... with your files I found the solution.
When I replace these files I need to set permissions to 0644. And, like magic, it works.
Thank you fffft, for your patience.
Glad you got it figured out.

Question: Involving Changing Sound Files

I just recently rooted my Samsung Galaxy S5 I tried using ES File Explorer to change the System/Media/Audio/Ui sound files. Some sound files worked and some didn’t (format can’t be read ). I was wondering if each separate sound file is limited to how long it can be or if it can’t play files passed 93DB or say use the same sound for all the Camera functions (start/stop/click). I changed the db to 93 for all my mp3 files converted them to ogg and renamed them to the appropriate name to overwrite the existing file. I ended up replacing the original sound files back onto the phone since I am not 100% sure if I changed the right sound files and some just didn't work.
The only sounds I want to change are the low battery, lock, unlock, power on, volume control, and the back/task manager/touch buttons which all have the same sound. I believe the files are: Lock.ogg, LowBattery.ogg, Poweron.ogg, TW_Volume_control.ogg, Unlock.ogg. I think the back/task manager/touch buttons are S_HW_Touch.ogg and TW_Touch.ogg, but not 100% sure. For example does Lock.ogg have to be less then 1 second if not format can't be read? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How do I disable the camera shutter sound? I already tried deleting the UI files.

How do I disable the camera shutter sound?
I'm rooted, so I already went to /system/media/audio/ui and deleted cam_snap_0.ogg as well as camera_click.ogg. Usually, that does the trick - but not with this phone, it seems.
Do these files exist in multiple locations? Does the camera app have a different file in its own directory?

The easiest way I've found was just to put the phone on silent. [emoji6]

Well, sure, but there isn't always time, and you won't always remember to take the extra step. I'm looking for a more permanent solution.
I can always use another camera app, but at this point, I'm also curious to know if there's a way to do it for the stock app.
Overwrite the sound files using the attached file (after you unzip it).
As root go into /system/audio/ui, from here you may want to first backup the files on this list, in case you want to restore the ui sounds.
File List:
Code:
af_failure.ogg
af_success.ogg
cam_snap_0.ogg
cam_timer_1sec.ogg
cam_timer_last.ogg
camera_click.ogg
Camera_Timer.ogg
camstart.ogg
camstop.ogg
continuous_shot.ogg
shot_snap.ogg
shutter_mirror_down.ogg
shutter_mirror_up.ogg
wheel_effect.ogg
Overwrite each and every one of those with the attached, unzipped file, make sure their permissions are set to 0644, and it should be totally silenced. (I think all the files might be overkill, but it covers all the bases).,
Good luck
Deleting audio files won't work, they need to be replaced.

Can I replace the files?? I dont have root!
I grabbed all the files and listened to all of them, and for what it's worth, I don't think I heard any files that matched the sound I hear in the app itself. I'm thinking that the default Camera app may provide its own sound internally. If that's true, then the question becomes whether it's accessible as a file, and if so, where is it stored.

No. Root is needed.
this was driving me nuts deleting all the files listed above and still had the camera shutter sounds.
so i followed this and copy the silence.ogg to create all those ogg files. move them to the phone. using rootbrowser, delete those same files from system/media/sound/ui then copy newly created files. close out the camera completely and reopen. this did it for me. thanks guys.
and yes you need root.
just goto my thread under themes and apps. I made a zip of every file you just paste into system and it'll be silent.

I tried the same steps and failed. Didn't stop my camera shutter sound. But it stopped my TOUCH SOUND (play sound when you touch an item on the screen). And my boot animation sound too. In the meantime I found another way with an app called "mute" and running a profile in tasker everytime the camera app opens, it toggles the MUTE app. That works for me.
An app called mutecamera will do this WITHOUT root.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gun0912.mutecamera&hl=en
Tested with H990DS and amazingly it worked. Have to give accessibility permission and there is an element of trust required here.
you get 15 free shots, after that you either pay or watch ads
But finally i find a non-root solution
Another alternative is to use Open camera. Remember to enable camera 2 api functionality and then you will see the option to disable shutter sound. You will of course be using open camera in this case.
But the first option allows to use your main camera. And that is the point. I only tested it with the main camera. I have no idea about other apps like whatsapp or facebook that may use the camera as i don't use those apps.
