Under wireless controls I have mobile networks, when I select it all I have for selections are : data roaming, call gaurd data roaming gaurd & system select... No APA AKA access point names to select...
I bought an Htc magic today and I am having trouble trying to find out how to disable the automatic connection to internet by GPRS. Can somebody help me?
Hello. Good question. Took me a little to find it. I actually have a widget that I can turn the GRS off and on anytime. Its a Battery Widget. Very handy. However to answer your issue from the dashboard "homescreen"
click MENU > SETTINGS > SECURITY&LOCATION > Then uncheck Enable GPS
lol zelda, not GPS, GPRS....2 totally different animals.
cunha11 i would delete out your apn info. it can be found under
settings-> wireless and networks --> mobile networks --> access point names
some people have reported that apn info will get re-filled in upon reboot but i think that may be carrier dependent.
so just click on your access point and delete all the fields available..
give that a shot
edit: forgot there is an app called apndroid in the market, give that a try
LOL sorry, my bad. I misread that. I read these forums at work in between Service requests. HEH. looks like he got it though.
Where do you add new APN settings? I went to all settings/connections/connections but don't see any place to insert all the APN settings..?
Original post:
HD2 noobie here. Have it unlocked on AT&T. Phone/SMS all work fine. I don't get any internet(mail, facebook, marketplace, etc.) unless I'm on wifi. I realize being on AT&T I can only get edge(which is fine). I've been on a tmobile phone(G1 on edge prior to getting this phone) since last year with no problems. I figured it was my sim card. I took my old G1 and put my sim in there, works no problems. Also put a different sim card under my account(my dads) in my HD2, same problem. I've narroed it down to the HD2 itself but I have no clue what could be keeping it from getting on edge/internet.
I get a 'Cannot COnnect'' error that says:
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufactuerer's documentation and try again.

Then after hitting 'Dismiss' I see:
Network problem
Make sure your Internet connection is active and check wether other applications that rely on the same connection are working

Any idea? Maybe someone with AT&T has seen this problem before.
Cheers
Your APN settings are wrong; if you have a TMOUS or Telstra HD2 it won't have AT&T settings on it, you need to create new connection profiles with AT&T settings.
I'm assuming it uses the same APN settings as my G1 on AT&T did? But where the heck do I enter new APN settings at on this phone?
I've looked everywhere for APN settings. Can anyone help please?
settings - all settings - connections - connections
I have tried that and saw NOTHING about APN settings.
updated title. still can't figure this out. surely there are AT&T users on here that had to do this

settings tab - menu - all settings - connections - connections - add a new modem connection - name - cellular line(gprs) then fill in the rest with the at&t access point name and such like.
Then, when you have the modem created, go back to the connections - connections screen, jump to advanced tab, click select networks - and set the top option to your at&t data you just set up.

Please help me set up the APN for t-zones and mms. I have a T-Mobile unlocked HD2 that I flashed to android. I went to settings-wireless & networks-mobile networks-access point names. When I hit Access Point Names, there are no options in it, just a black screen with APN on top so I cannot add anything. How do I set up my T-mobile MMS and t-zones settings? I looked everywhere and could not find a solution. Please help!!!!

Go to Settings > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > tap on dot then NAME > TELUS ISP (in my case it's Telus, but chose your own) and it will bring the Edit Access Point menu. Scroll down and chose APN type and chose Internet + mms not just mms.
Enjoy your Note 2 fellas!
Edit: Title should read "Please read if you cannot get data to work on your network" Stupid iPad 3 keyboard...
I just noticed my new Note 4 SM-N910V running Android 5.1.1 does not have the Add APN or similar option listed under the Mobile Networks tab. Shouldn't it be listed here? I remember setting up my wife's Note 4 a year or so ago and it was there on hers. Unfortunately, her phone is broke now so I can't check it.
I only have the following under More Networks\Mobile networks:
Mobile Data
Data Roaming
Network Mode
System Select
I'm in the process of transferring my number over from my old phone to this Note 4, so I'm confused, how will I add my correct APN settings if the Add APN option is completing missing from the list of choices?

I found suggestions to run the APN app manually while searching the net.
When I try to launch com.android.settings.apneditor, nothing happens, not even an error message or anything.
When I search for apnsettings, I get two apps:
Service Mode RIL: com.sec.android.RilServiceModeApp.TestApnSettings
Settings: com.android.settings.Settings$ApnSettingsActivity
The Service Mode RIL app gives me an error: Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped
The other app for Settings actually opens an APN screen, but the + button does not work so I still can't add a new APN.
One APN is listed for Verizon Internet. I was going to try to edit it, but the only thing I could change was the APN field as everything else was greyed out.
Pics are attached.
I hope someone has some suggestions I can try. The phone is rooted!
Did you find a solution?
I'm having the exact same problem with my note 4. But I had the APN settings for a while although I couldn't edit them or create new ones. Then I checked recently and the options are gone. My menu settings are the same as your screenshots. Something removed them and if I can find out what could do that, hopefully I can get them back.

Here Is The solution
Download The App " Change Apn " From Playstore Or Apkpure
After Installing The App
Open The App And The APN Settings Will Appear
