Lately I've been wanting to use my tablet more in my car, as a media center and navigation system. I decided to try out some offline nav apps, but I found that my GPS isn't working at all. It cannot get a fix. Has anyone had similar problems and possibly a solution? I'm running the latest CM11 nightly.

hi all,
have just recently got tom tom up and running on my blackstone,
have a few questions as no doubt they can be resloved using applications and configurations in one way or another,
i will be using this feature on my motorbike as i cant stand driving cars
and due to this have encountered a few issues.
as i cant see the screen as the phone is in my pocket is there any way i can disable the backlight and lock the touch screen/ hard buttons and still have the tom tom software running?
i will have a head set on in my helmet so all i need is the voice directions from the software,
also, can i block all incoming calls?
i suppose i could just switch it to divert prior to getting on my bike.
last question,
when first installing the tom tom software i went outside the house to see if it worked while on foot, and the GPS reception was perfect...
i then went in installed some 3rd party route planning software on my PC to test routes and all of a sudden the gps signal is awful, it keeps dropping out. will only connect for a few seconds then drop again.
is there any thing i can do or install to improve gps performance?
OK,
So I'm trying to get some help regarding this issue. I will continue to try different ROM's and what not to see if it can be resolved. I'm simply at a loss to where the issue lies though, however as of today, every custom ROM has been giving me trouble. My plan for today is to flash a stock ROM via Odin and then if that works go for Imperium, however I'm hoping with your help I may be able to solve it on something like CM12 or what not because I prefer the flexibility of a proper custom ROM.
OK, so the issue I have:
I have a car head unit which has bluetooth built-in. Music plays fine through Bluetooth, no jitters or issues. However, when I try and call someone and I'm listening to the radio or something non-Bluetooth, the phone does not send the signal (?) to the head unit to switch to Bluetooth. This means the call will be made via the dialer app and while the audio IS being routed through the bluetooth channel, the head unit does not know about it because it hasn't received the signal to switch to Bluetooth. I can switch it manually to Bluetooth and make and receive calls, but this isn't convenient at all and probably quite dangerous when I'm driving a car. The same applies when receiving a call.
Here's the thing, if I go into Bluetooth, select CAR KIT and go configuration, if I disable Media Audio, then it works fine! The phone correctly sends the signal to switch to Bluetooth and the head unit does so. The call goes through and it all works fine. This is repeatable.
Therefore, the issue I'm having lies in the fact both Media and Phone Audio are enabled at the same time. Has anyone else had this issue and does anyone have a suggestion to fix it?
Before someone suggests "just disable media audio". My answer is no, this isn't convenient at all. I use Bluetooth media quite a lot, and simply disabling and re-enabling it everytime simply isn't an option.
So far, I've had this issue on:
CM12.1 Optimized
CM12.1 Nightly
Mokee ROM
DirtyUnicorns
CM12 Nightly
I'm yet to try a stock Lollipop ROM. I know for a fact however, that stock KitKat DOES work.
I really could do with some help here, so any suggestions would be awesome.
all the roms you have tried are aosp....aosp is not designed for the s4 as its not an officially supported device (its not a nexus) so things like bluetooth and the camera will always be broken as the required stuff needed is proprietary to samsung
go back to stock and your problem will be solved

The Bluetooth itself is fine. Audio quality is fine. Call quality is fine. It just seems like a tiny little thing that's causing all these issues for me, because if it could trigger my car head unit to switch, I wouldn't even dream of stock. Also the camera seems fine to be fair?
I'm not keen on going back to stock.... at all, so I'm thinking Imperium. It's a shame though because apart from this BT issue, CM12 is fantastic on this device. Takes a 2 year old phone and makes it feel like a brand new phone.
I really hope someone can fix that Bluetooth bug in CM12.1. I may even look myself, it must be something pretty small from a coding perspective because as I said, the functionality is clearly there as evidenced by the fact it works with Media audio turned off.
Regardless, thanks anyway
Changing the modem did not solve my problem.
When did you try the Optimized and the nightlies? There have been a lot of fixes lately regarding bluetooth.
Hi all,
Since upgrading to Android 7.x, I've had problems connecting my phone to other Bluetooth devices, particularly my car heading it for hands-free. The headunit in one car works fine, the other car keeps connecting and disconnecting after about 1-2seconds in a continual loop. Before 7.x it was connecting fine. Even now my phone makes the notification sound of connecting when I'm in that car even when I choose 'forget this device' on both hu and phone, only way to stop the notifications is to turn bt off.
I've googled and found it's quite a common issue, but yet to find a solution. I joined the beta program and update everytime but yet to fix it.
My question is, will this problem be fixed if I install a custom rom like PureNexus or is it a flaw in 7.x affecting every rom? If that is the case, is it possible to downgrade to 6.x? I really want to be able to connect to my hu with hands free again, it's been months now with no luck!

Hello,
Backup your data's and try to factory reset.
You can install a custom ROM, but I guess it doesn't fix drivers issues which are closed sources.
Otherwise you can downgrade to a 6.x stock firmware.
Option 1 and 3 needs you to unlock your bootloader. Backup important datas, unlocking bootloader wipe all datas!
Good luck...

I suggest you fully wipe your phone and install the May Google image (N2G47O). There was a major BT rework introduced with 7.1.2 that fixed an issue just as you describe. I went 5-6 months without being able to connect with one of my cars (2014 Cadillac). When the 7.1.2 beta came out I did a fresh install and it immediately fixed the problem. BT has worked flawlessly since.

You need a completely clean 7.1.2 install.
There is a setting somewhere (I don't know where) left over from previous OS version or app.
My phone was doing the exact same thing with my BMW, and only my BMW.
Clean install of 7.1.2 fixed the issue for me.
I wiped my 6P today hoping it would resolve my BT issues with my 2015 Toyota Highlander. No such luck, it still boots my Toyota in an endless loop until I disable the BT on the phone. The car works fine on my Samsung S3.
What is the process to do a Clean install of 7.1.2?
Hi, I need little help with few problems with my Nexus 4 Sailfish
1) not important, but USB mass storage mode is not working
2) bluetooth is not working - there is no quick action to turn it on or off, in setting > bluetooth tells me that bluetooth is not available
3) everything related with GPS is not working - I tried some android apps like Sygic, Navfree and OSMand, gpsinfo tells me that some sattelites have fixed signal, but it is not showing longitude/latitude etc. and those apps still are just searching signal, but will never find.
I think it won´t be a hardware problem, because I have dualboot with android 5 and there is everything working ok.
Can you help me please?
noone will help me?
Install bluetooth:
devel-su
pkcon install bluez
IIRC, GPS only works with gapps installed
Hello, thanks for reply, but I have already solved it. I use OSM Scout Server and poor maps. but it is not full car gps navigation, lot of features are not included. So if I understand properly, sfdroid works with gps, but only with Gapps installed? And what about Alien Dalvik? If I install Alien Dalvik and not Gapps, it is the other option?
There is no way to legally install Aliendalvik on Mako. And i haven't tested sfdroid: https://wiki.merproject.org/wiki/Adaptations/libhybris/Install_SailfishOS_for_mako
Gapps bring Google's positioning service. I don't see the point in having an alternative OS and then installing Google stuff on it. I can live with PoorMaps.
I have just got a 2nd hand Nexus 7 2013 32GB WiFi from eBay.
I got it with the intention of using it in my car for GPS (Google Maps via Hotspot from my phone, Hema Maps when off road), Audio (Podcasts via PocketCasts and music via Google Play Music). I use the AutoMate app as the front end, it auto-launches when it contacts to the Bluetooth of my car head unit, and auto plays the audio, and also pauses and puts the tablet to sleep when the Bluetooth disconnects when I turn the car off.
Now my issue is the GPS appears to be very hit and miss. When I googled it, it seems to be a very common issue with the Nexus 7 and apparently, Google was working on a fix years ago.
I tried with it updated to the latest 6.0.1 and it would sometimes get a fix and it would track my location for a short period but then it would lose its fix and would stop tracking which was useless for driving directions!
I decided to try Lineage OS 7.1 last night, I tested it on the way to and from work today, it worked slightly better than 6.0.1 but still dropped out.
Any ideas for fixing it or is the Nexus 7 just destined to have a useless GPS?
Last resort may be to get an external USB or Bluetooth GPS but I'd rather not have to do that. I'd rather the built-in GPS work correctly!
