Hi, i have a note 3 sm-n9005, I bought this in Italy and I use it with a sim Italian, if I go on a trip to Australia, what should I do? I mean, the frequencies are the same?
how can I see if my device has the "region lock"?
I would not go there and have the smartphone locked.
The N9005 has all bands necessary. It will work.
If you are on CyanogenMod the region lock should be disabled.
Just in case, you can check the thread [APP][2013.11.04] RegionLock Away v1.3 [ROOT].
any "note 3" has the region lock?

sm-n9005 is a note 3 international model, it should be unlocked.
If you want to check for the "region lock", install Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app or Shortcut Master app, open the Menu --> 'Secret Codes Explorer', scroll down to the secret code 7465625 (SIMLOCK) and tap to launch this code. (Note: root is required)

Yes and no. The N9005 does, depending on the region of purchase. UAE seems to be clear, but EU is 100% Region Locked. Most Custom ROMS get rid of it, and if you're rooted, try the above mentioned Region Lock away.

If it's bought in the EU, it has the region lock for the EU. Regardless of the fact that the N9005 is the international version. On stock, anyway.

SIMLOCK is just a name for easy-to-remember the secret code 7465625
In fact it includes 4 types of lock: Network, Network Subset, SP and CP lock.

Just because they're under the same menu doesnt mean they're the same thing.
Simlock locks the device to a specific provider. It is also illegal in the EU since 2011.
Region lock locks the device to a region, but you can use any provider in that region.
One has nothing to do with the other.

Those are different kinds of SIM locks. The Network Lock is the main SIMlock, the network subset lock specifies the specific network it's on. This enables when one provider uses the network of another. The SP and CP one nobody is really clear on. (Not even the lads at Samsung and T-Mobile.)
They all lock the device to a specific provider by blacklisting all the others in a file.
The Region Lock is a list of whitelisted providers by provider ID. Its principle is the same, on that you're entirely right.
Sadly, unlocking the SIMlock doesn't unlock the region. (If it did we could charge them with breaking EU law and get rid of the whole thing.)
More info is to be found in Chainfire's thread on the subject. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470551
And now I really wish swiftkey would stop autocorrecting to Sherlock every time I type SIMlock. . It's getting a bit silly. That's what you get for lending your phone to a colleague for 5 minutes. :silly: -.-

Haha, I get that a lot .
Well, a Service Provider is the same as a Provider, so it's probably all for the different types of SIMlocks different providers use. (like the US method is difderent from the Asian ones.)
Basically each phone has a series text file that goes [providercode] = 0 for locked, and = 1 for enabled. (It's not as crudely written as that, but I was never very good at coding My robot was supposed to run an obstacle course, but instead tried to eat the professor's foot for an hour.)
There's the file that lists all blocked providers (big list), which is the SIMlock (stop it Swiftkey).
And there's another file somewhere else that lists which providers are unlocked. That's the Region Lock.
There's another one of these lists that determines which providers have LTE enabled. But unlike the regionlock, that one varies per CSC. (As does the SIMlock.)
Most important fact is that Chainfire found a way to get rid of it (All one has to do is Root it).

some suggestions...
Sorry you're having this trouble, qnfk... and that your welcome here by the above poster was not only less than friendly, it was unhelpful, since the solutions he recommended are for a different problem, namely unlocking a carrier lock not the region lock. Your phone is likely to have only one or the other.
I noticed that you have found the thread, Region Lock Unlocking for i9500 S4, though it hasn't become very active yet.
I have 3 suggestions for you:
A. Type *#12580*369# on your phone to check RF Cal for the date of manufacture and *#1234# for the firmware version codes for AP, CP & CSC.
B. Follow these directions to access the MCC blacklist in your device's customer.xml file:

C. Read this entire thread: Check the countries that you can’t use your galaxy S4 in. Consider posting your questions there with the above information. It's a fairly active thread and I'm sure you'd be welcome... in fact, you'll find that the OP referenced your situation last week.
Your circumstances are unusual since Asian phones are officially supposed to be region unlocked. If you do post on that thread, you might consider also providing information about the background of your phone, such as where you bought it, how the seller represented its origin to you and whether or not it had a region-lock sticker on the box.
Good Luck!

almost giving up on GT-I9500
I have a GT-I9500 that is Region locked(Middle East),I tried almost everything but nothing works for me.....H*ll I don't mind paying for unlocking codes, but i read somewhere that Region Locked is different,so buying unlocking codes might not really work, the phone comes with the new bootloader(phone made 2013.10.13),pls if anybody has a solution/suggestion or even a reliable website that can provide genuine "Region Unlocking codes" should share.
what i ve tried so far but still did not work
1-Region unlock app by @Chainfire
2-Try entering service mode by *#0011#
3-Root and install a custom rom(Crash Rom)
4-Terminal Emulator (to calculate unlock codes)
5-Change the Modem (tried all the modems, more than 10)
If anybody can help, pls kindly assist....
Thank you all

I've Boughten an unlocked Galaxy Note 3 SM-9005 on ebay. To use for straight talk in the United States. The first sim card i had in it was a normal sized sim card that i had cut (instead of micro) And after fiddling this sim card had worked from 4-5 days. Then i started to get the error message "No service" and "Not registered on Network" I had figured the sim was probably the reason to why i was not being allowed to call or message. So i bought another brand new micro sim card. And then put that in (Again with straight talk) and i am still unable to call or message. I have checked my imei number and it is the same as the one on the back of the phone. I have tried to re-register on the network within the settings on the phone. With no luck whatsoever. I have noticed that the CSC is not correct for the united states. And in hopes of fixing it i rooted and installed a custom rom. (IMEI is still the same)
If someone could please help...I am Stumped[/FONT]

Given the details that you have provided so far the most likely scenarios that I see are:
1) there is a mechanical problem on the SIM contact
2) the seller was on some form of a contract and has reported the phone stolen, so the IMEI is now blocked on some or all carriers.
DO NOT MINGLE WITH THE FIRMWARE at this point (and also disable any automatic updates of the firmware).
Also if you want further technical info (and not just guesswork) you should post the output from *#1234#

It really does depend on the issues xclub has brought up.
If it was me, I'd rule out SIM issue (the card itself) due to having a replacement, although it could be an issue with the SIM Tray.
And if it is used, then yes it is possible that it has been blocked by the original owner.
EDIT : Do you guys in the US have an IMEI checker for blocked IMEI's etc? in Europe we do it's called CHECK MEND.. Might be worth having a look or alternatively give your network a ring, they'll know for sure.

Ok so you have the same firmware as me, I am using BTU which is UK (I am UK) - So your CSC does indeed need changed to match you for US use - -- Firstly does your network support the available frequency required? (do you have LTE?) - If so you can change you CSC to your required region But another factor --- are you aware of region lock? has it been disabled that you know of? - this could cause some issues if it hasn't been deactivated - I'm not sure when changing CSC/firmware if it reactivates region locking or not
EDIT: I think only T-Mobile supports the N9005 in the US ( I could be wrong) --- Need a US user to chime in here I think to be 100% sure!!
Going with an Unknown carrier on CSC/FW- May not solve it

That looks like EU version. Since somewhere else you mentioned that you rooted then the next thing to try is Region Lock Away:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470551
since the phone might now be "hit" by the EU region lock (an even simpler test would be to insert an EU SIM just to see if it registers on some network for roaming). If RegionLockAway fixes things you can then see what version of firmware you want in order to get LTE from your carrier.
If you want to sell the phone - being rooted might even be a plus, but having Knox 0x1 is certainly a major minus.
I did get region unlock and it did not work. And when i try to install the unknown firmware i am unable to flash it with odin i get all sorts of errors (I tried two of the unknowns) BTW thanks for the help

Hi,
I have a question.
My phone Note 3 AP: N9005XXUBMJ3
CP: N9005XXUBMJ2
CSC: N9005OXXBMJ3
So I rooted using Kingo, then applied the RegionLock Away, but the phone is still region locked.
Now I have a SIM from the region where the phone is, but no roaming.
My question is, is there a way to speak the 5 minutes on that sim without the roaming or money on it for that matter?
Or at least make it believe that I did it?
Just wild guessing.
Thx.

No roaming on the original country sim isn't that strange, some operators don't allow roaming unless you specifically request it.

My CSC is ROM (Romania).
I mentioned that is not activated, the roaming, because, if I had it, I could speak the 5 mins and the phone would be region unlocked.
PS Not any closer to a solution.

I am probably missing something - the roaming is not activated on the SIM or does not work on the phone? (or in other words - does the SIM work in another phone?)
If the SIM can not roam it is of no help, and even if it can you might STILL see unpleasant surprises (reported by plenty of users around - having problems even after doing the 5 minutes thing).
Have you tried posting in the the RegionLockAway thread so that Chainfire could have a chance to see what is wrong? MJ3 is clearly listed there are working so there might be only something minor that is missing, and Chainfire could be the guy that understands what is that thing missing.
I am not even asking if you have checked that the root is indeed working (with a root-checker or similar)
The alternative is to write directly to Samsung (mentioning your original warranty card and so on) and ask for a region-unlock code - I believe 2-3 users have reported success on that (after 2-4 weeks usually).

Could you clarify on how to write to Samsung?
I thought about writing on the thread, but Chainfire is very busy and seldomly answers, especially on that thread lately.

My best guess would be no. But you should take a look at this post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50818287&postcount=566
Also post the CSC, firmware and baseband - dial *#1234#.

I did replaced my region locked ROMania with BTU UK (supposedly region free) and the phone was still region locked. Only after updating the modem to an earlier version (from MJ3 to MJ1) was I able to use the regionlock away tool.
If I m not mistaken using region lock away tool means knox 0x1
Sent from my SM-N9005 using xda app-developers app

Dear All, the question is very simple.
1. Does the region lock go away if a European region lock Firmware (unlocked cellular network N9005) is replaced with Singapore (no region lock) firmware.
2. Since MCC of sim is linked to CSC code which is also linked to the Product code which in turn links the modem software which embeds the black listed networks. we need clarity on it. if the Product code is the culprit then can we change the product code of European model to unlocked region product lets say singapore and then install the singapore firmware. will this remove the region lock.
3. Has any one tried the above two and got any answers. Developers please intervene.
Thanks in Advance..

1. If the firmware is equal, not less, and you are willing to take a small risk, but first do some research if this will not brick your phone, try it yourself. I would say no, but unless it is dangerous give it a try.
2. Too long for me, also too complex. Try it with the vets.
3. This is a thread started by me, so it is unlikely it has a great coverage. Try writing in some of the big threads or create a new one.
PS I will do anything I can to help, but all the info is in this post written also by me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50818287&postcount=566

Was it SM-G975U, T-Mobile version?
I've tried with the network unlock assigned by TMo, but no success. It gives me error 5.
I really want to ask and confirm if the "samsungsimunlock.com" method works for TMo in the same situation that I have mine.
Thanks, any advices they done you, about factory reset, or flashing it??
luciostanton said:
I have unlocked using that service as well, yes, the price it was 13 dollars
my phone also displayed 'error 5' in original t-mobile app, but I have unlocked using 'network unlock' app from samsungsimunlock.com website

Thanks @luciostanton, I have two phones G975U from T-mobile, and did they say you must avoid make a factory reset or reinstall the system form odin? I have asked in one shop about the unlocking cost: they offered me a $20 option, but they told me if I make the factory reset, the phone loses the unlock. And need to pay again to unlock, but I don't know if was this method.
I guess samsungsimunlock.com give you another "Unlock App" that works instead the TMo preinstalled, or every thing was made online, by USB?
Thanks a lot!
Factory reset to fix another problem. For Unlock doesn't need that.

you don't need to flash your phone for getting sim unlock.

Hi @leonardovisconsi, yeah, I know factory reset is not needed to unlock process, but if you unlock by this method, and in the future you need to make a factory reset to fix another undesired app, system failure, forgotten pin, etc.... would it lose the unlock? That is my doubt.
Fake! Beware! samsungsimunlock.com is fake! Don't say it's true!
I've tried by myself. Don't trash your money! They send you a fake app, and a RANDOM code. And when you enter the code, or another numbers you want, it shows the word unlocked!, But it's only a word shown. The work inside the phone doesn't exist. It's an app programmed to only show the word. So, for me, it didn't work. Some people of this team will say it's working, but if you wan to give your money, you're free to choose. They say need to pay another $13 more, because my device has a kind of ultra level encryption, and can be unlocked with a more powerful software send by them. Gift $26 !
PayPal may solve a refund, but it's not guaranteed.
And the team has an automated replying system, to tell your refund is on process, and endless process!
Try a phisical solution, like Chimera Relock, or visit a shop, they have guarantee!
Please, let us know your experiences, and collaborate with the people who needs it.
If you can't believe, read this forum.

Did you try a Sim card after that screen? The method they gave me, same you are using, didn't work for me.
So, the app accepted random codes. Said unlocked, but when inserted the Sim, it was locked.
The only method worked for me was Chimera, with Samsung Carrier Relock, a very excellent tool. Cost about $15 in a shop.

Samsungsimunlock is a SCAM, you can put a random code in the application they give you the same result but your phone will remain locked.
I lost my money 3 days ago.

Remove AT&T bloatware
I hope I'm in the correct thread to ask this question. I have a Galaxy S10+ (SM-G975U) purchased directly from Samsung with an AT&T SIM card. I had AT&T send me the unlock code and my phone was unlocked so that I can move to T-mobile, which I've done successfully. My problem is that I'm on the T-mobile network but I still have all of the AT&T bloatware including the jingle and blue/white rotating globe on startup. I'd like to get a clean install of the T-mobile ROM and remove all vestiges of AT&T. Is this possible? If so, can someone send me a link with instructions with the procedure please? T-mobile phone customer service and local store personnel say they understand my problem but that they can't help me. Thank you.

I could not sim unlock my tmo s10+, I tried a few pages. The other day I call tmo and told them I wanted to sim unlock my phone, the lady told me that I needed to use the phone for 3 months and have at least 100 paid to the line in the phone. I'm on the 2nd month and already did the 100 dollars charge to the line so just waiting for October to call again and have it unlock for free.

Sim unlock just lets you use another phone company sim card. All that bloatware will be there because thatd the software. You can try flashing a 976u1 rom. That's a clean version and has no bloatware.
