I was very happy yesterday when I picked up my brand new Desire HD. When I got home I immediately removed the plastic from the battery, inserted my sim card and plugged it in the charger while reading the manual.
After some tinkering around it suddenly rebooted. I thought it was just due to a setting I changed so didn't think much of it. However, it occurred another time later in the evening. This morning when I woke up, I didn't have any signal due to my DHD not recognizing my sim card any more. When I rebooted the phone, all was well. However when riding my train to work I felt the phone vibrate so I picked it up thinking I had a new text. Wrong: I was staring at the boot screen yet again.
When I got home this afternoon I did a factory reset using the phone's menu and hoped it would solve my problem. Unfortunately, when I opened the browser it rebooted again!
So, is my 2 day old DHD really dead-on-arrival or is there something else I could try? Unfortunately this was the last model left at the store where I got it from and they didn't know when another shipment would come in, so I might be stuck waiting for a while if I really do need to get it exchanged for a new one.
Mine is also doing this, also when I turned it off last night to charge it, it kept turning itself on. Any help much appreciated.

imo take it back if a laptop or anything else was doing this i would say there is a hardware fault bad chip sample or something its not normal you should have to live with it take it back asap
or wait if you want but personally you pay that much you want it to work just take it back
Maybe your SIM card is old and causing these reboots? DHD will automaticaly reboot when you unplug your SIM card without shutting it down first so maybe it's just loosing contact.
I've seen cases (various manufacturers) where SIM card would cause hangs, reboots and such. Replacement card from the operator in most cases fixed the issue.
My Nokia 6630 has that issue, it says the phone has to be reboot constantly due to a old scratched sim card, if i try with a new one it works perfectly :|

These reboot issues are a problem with the Desire, Nexus1, EVO4 and now it would appear the DesireHD. For the other phones the solution is to return to HTC for a mainboard replacement.
I really hope this isnt the case for the DesireHD.
As for it being my sim card: I doubt it as it works fine in my old phone (Nokia N900) and an old Motorola I still have. The sim card is barely 1 year old btw.

Yeah, I read about similar problems with the Desire and Nexus One but hoped the problems would have been solved in the DesireHD as I hadn't seen any messages of this problem occurring on the DHD before.
When I woke up about an hour ago, I again had to reboot my phone as it didn't see my sim card anymore. I'll go back to the store in about an hour to get a new one if they have it, and let you know when I get back...
This is just a wild guess, but may you should try to take out the sim card and place it back again. There could be a loose contact, dirt on the sim or some something else that might be causing a problem the phone does not see the sim correctly.

I thought of that last night so I took out the sim card as well as the battery and placed them back again. This morning, the DHD again failed to recognize my sim card so that problem wasn't solved.
The reboots seem to be rather random though, it's not just when I use my phone very heavily.
the issue with the sim card isnt the mainboatd issue, its can be sim or one of the back covers, wird.
Well, I went to the shop this morning to replace my DHD for a new one. The shop I got it from didn't have any in stock anymore, so I had the choice to wait until next week, or go to another shop and have it exchanged there. So I went there, and they replaced my (I think) faulty unit for a new one
So far, it's working like a dream What I noticed that with my previous DHD the charger would buzz very slightly when charging, this doesn't happen with my new unit and the same charger.
I'll keep you updated whether or not my new unit is indeed problem free.
I bought my Desire HD from the T-Mobile shop yesterday. Nice phone, but mine is rebooting every 5 minutes more or less. It seems to reboot soon after the 3g becomes active, but that may be just a coincidence. It also reboots immediatly upon plugging in the USB cable. Very annoying!. I thought I would try resetting to factory default, but that also did not help. I am going to swap it tomorrow, and hope I have better luck with that one.
Andrew
Same issue here, got mine from three UK yesterday.
Brand new SIM Card with the phone as well.
It was fine most of last night, rebooted once then after setup, like another post didnt think that much of it.
Then this morning it went in to a boot loop, rebooted about 5times in a row and the only thing to correct was a battery pull.
Lets hope its a software issue and not hardware related!
I haven't been able to test my new unit properly just yet. I ordered a new SIM card through T-MOBILE but it hasn't arrived yet. I'm now using my DHD without a SIM card and it has been working fine for the past 24 hours. So I think my SIM card is indeed the problem, as both units rebooted several times with the SIM card inserted but work fine without one.
When i picked up my sgs. It used to have same problem. Everytime i open a browser it reboots. But after i changed the rom it went perfect
Factory reset wont work. Try fresh install from the recovery menu. I think it will fix ur problem.
Most of the time this issue is software related.

Replaced my DHD at T-Mobile
Hi all,
So i was experiencing the reboot problem on my new phone. In fact mine was rebooting every 5 to 10 minutes since i took it out of the box. I phoned HTC to see if there was something I was doing wrong. They told me it's probably mainboard fault and I should return it.
Today I brought it back to the t-mobile shop and they exchanged it for a new one no questions asked. I demonstrated to the sales guy how it reboots for no reason, just to prove I wasn't crazy, but he didn't even ask for proof. The new one seems to be working flawlessly so far.
Here in Netherlands, you have 8 business days to return your device if something is wrong, and they will exchange it. If you wait too long, you would have to send it for repair under warranty. If you are having issues such as this, I would definitely swap it out a.s.a.p because when you buy an expensive phone like this, its meant to WORK!
I noticed something else perhaps worth mentioning. When the first phone package was opened, the plastic piece protecting the battery was not there, and the Micro SD was in the box, but not in the phone. The plastic cover was on the phone however, so I didn't think anything of these things because i don't know how the phones are packed. When I got the replacement phone, I tried to start it and it wouldnt start. Only then did I realize the replacement phone had a plastic protector around the battery which I first had to remove, and the micro sd was already in the phone. When i put my sim in the replacement phone, the fit was tighter as well. This all seems rather dubious to me. Perhaps someone had a play around with the first one before selling it? Maybe it was refurbished? In any case MAKE SURE you inspect the phone before leaving the shop, and make sure your phone hasn't been played with.
good luck everyone!
Andrew
Horrible reboot
Hi all,
I have been experiencing different reboots due to different reasons. Main reason is the fact of applying too much pressure on the back cover. That will always result in a reboot (I suspect it has to do with the two contacts under the cover).
Another reason for rebooting, as I have experiencing, is unplugging the charger while using the telephone.
I wouldn't be surprised if there are more reasons that cause the rebooting of the unit.
The worse part in my case is the fact that I lost the receipt, thus I believe I won't be able to take it back to have it fixed. Am I wrong?
I've been experiencing the same issues, but mine also turns itself on. I tried factory reset, didn't solve. So I am getting it exchanged as soon as its back in stock with Vodafone.

I am having exactly the same problem with my DHD. It's randomly rebooting 1 or 2 times a day. And when it's rebooted there is no signal and sometimes it doesn't even recognize my simcard at all. Manually rebooting the device then solves the problem for a while, untill it reboots automaticly again....
I have a dual simcard so today I will swap it, but I don't think that is going to work.
I don't have the DHD yet...
But i saw in a youtube movie that the batterycover had 2 contacts.
The guy in de video told that when you take the batterycover off when the phone is on it will shut down.
Maybe your battterycover is not set the good way.
Pretty much anytime I try to use YouTube, or play a game, or just do almost anything except Phone/Text/Internet... my phone will stop what it is doing a do a full reboot. It's really getting on my nerves now.
There are some other forum discussions out there on this, but they are all with Android devices in which people have rooted their phone and messed something up themselves. For a completely stock, non jacked around Focus... does anyone have any idea what is causing this?
Does this just sound like a defect Samsung will have to deal with directly?
I had and HTC HD7 that did that (re-boot) constantly. I was lucky enough to flash it with a clean rom and everything worked perfect.
Unfortunately there are no roms for the Focus, so take it back for exchange/refund or some kind of swap under warranty.
This problem happens to me, but that's only because I have a 32 GB SD card in. Are you sure you didn't put an SD card in your Focus?
No SD card for me. I really don't have a lot of music or pictures on my phone so the stock memory is fine with me. It stopped doing it this last weekend so I may have lucked out.
I actually swapped my old Captivate with someone back in December yo get this phone, so getting it exchanged or using the warranty is probably not an option. Ugh.
Wow, so I replied too soon. It's doing it again while I'm trying to use Netflix. AARRRRRRR

With no intent to offend, are you sure there is no card installed in the MicroSD slot under the back cover? You have actually taken off the back cover and looked at the empty SD card slot? I ask because you say you swapped someone for it, so maybe they installed the card before you got it.
If not, have you tried a hard reset?
Ya.... try doing the three finger reset if you already haven't done so. And yes, check that memory slot. Who knows even if they put a 4GB card in there, it still might not be working properly.
No offense taken! I just confirmed there is no memory card inside.
Won't the 3 finger reset automatically format my phone? Do I need to sync with my Zune before I do this to ensure all of my pictures and internal data isn't lost?
yes, sync with zune to save your photos and videos, Windows Live will save your calendar settings and contacts, and you'll have to reinstall your apps. You will lose any saved text conversations.
So my phone reset this weekend after trying to take a picture, and is now executing an infinite reboot cycle on the Samsung logo. I can't even do the 3 finger salute to re-format and start from scratch! No SD card fyi.
Has anyone tried sending their phone back to Samsung Repair center. Since the phone hasn't even been out for a year they said it would most likely be covered under manufacturers warranty, however they said I would need to provide a receipt, but since it was a gift from a family member all I have is the original box. They didn't keep the receipt (it was purchased online).
Just curious if someone else has had a similar issue. I figured taking it to an AT&T store will do me no good since Managers bonuses are directly tied to any replacements or damaged goods they take back if it wasn't purchased in their store.
did you guys figure out a solution to this? my phone keeps restarting now... at least 20 times a day!!! this is ridiculuous!! i bought this one last november and i'm pretty sure it's too late to complain.
what did you guys end up doing?
I am sorry to tell you this, but I had to buy a new phone. I discovered that one of the three golden battery contacts was bent. Tried everyone with no luck.

You should go warranty.
my surround started to hang on the HTC screen on boot last night, so I hard reset it and it kept hanging so I hard reset it with the sim card out and with in plugged in or not and different combo's of all of that and then finally it throws me this error
the storage card cannot be found or is not functioning please replace it then set the device to manufacturer default
my mind is blown, is it borked beyond homebrew repair or can some one tell me how to save it?
I really dont want to drive to the ATT store for a replacement. . .
I would suggest calling it in to your cell phone carrier. The only other alternative is unscrewing all the screws under your battery cover and taking the phone apart to replace the sd card. (voiding your warranty in the process)
after 3 hours of trying to explain that all the phone does it turn on then set on the HTC loading screen to some one who spoke Indian in a really good English accent they finally believed me about what it was doing then transferred me to some one else to start over.
around the 4.5 hour mark I got accidentally transferred to the "wrong" person who apologized for all the trouble and sent out a replacement phone
I should have just popped it open and replaced the sim card, it would have been less time consuming
I just followed the instructions here.
All in all, I'm very pleased with the results. Angry birds is a bit choppy and the 16 bit color still exists. Post here if there are any issues specific to the Surround.
It's actually smooth for a beta . I'm let down with the whole wp7 thing still tho.
Everything worked fantastically (well as good as could be expected for beta software at least) for a day and a half until the device auto-rebooted and is now permanently stuck on the white HTC screen. Whether this was caused by the Mango beta or it was just coincidence I'm not really sure as this screen error usually occurs from an SD card error from what I understand. All part of the game with installing beta software right?
hey lostinbeta,
I had the same issue as u did, i updated my ohone to mango and it worked for 3 days until it randomly rebooted and got stuck at the htc screen, i tried flashing a ROM for OS 7004 and also tried retoring it through the zune software, it restarted my phone and for the next 3 hrs my phone was still on the HTC screen and zune did not throw any error and was still continuing a never ending restoration, pls pls pls help me , thanx in advance

I wish I could help, but I could never get my surround working again. I considered it hard bricked and went back to my captivate. I never called HTC about it though, so you can try to see if you can send it in for repair if its still under warranty. No guarantees they wont catch why it happened and refuse warranty service and charge you though.
Did you try to install RSPL/HSPL then install stock ROM?

I did. It just hangs at the white HTC screen forever (well til the battery dies lol) the only thing i haven't tried was changing the sd card inside the phone, but that's because I don't have a spare one and if it was a big enough deal I could just trying sending it into warranty to see if they will fix it for free instead of buying a new card.
Edit: I should say that I did not install an HSPL, but I flashed the official signed stock rom without a hitch.
Fwiw, I have had this happen on one occasion on the original 7004 build. I was able to get it working again, but not before I reflashed. The best you can hope for is to return the device and get a warranty replacement if flashing didn't do the trick.
problems with being stuck at logo screen
Hello All,
I bought my surround used (only 3 months old) and a month later it re-booted several times and finally ended stuck on the logo screen. Tried different methods of reviving the phone listed on here.... called att about warranty, they wouldnt warranty the phone because they said it had 3 sim registered to it, they said good luck but we are not going to help you. called htc and they had me send it in, couple days later, got a call saying water damage and it would be 170US and shipping for the repair. I had them send it back because i wasnt going to spend anymore money on it.
3 months later...
I opened up the phone last night and removed the internal micro sd card, left the slot empty and did a hard reset. viola... it booted up. Now, i was limited because there was no (at least not very much) memory available for photos, apps, or anything else, but the phone worked for calling
Went to the local walmart and purchased a sandisk class4 16GB card for about 30US. Opened the phone back up and installed the sd card and did another hard reset. Phone booted and I checked the memory, around 14.xxGB free after format. I have made 2 updates from zune, installed several apps, texted, called and sync some zune data, setup my gmail acct and sync'd my contacts. Phone has been working great, only 2 days but I think HTC has put in a bad bunch of micro sd cards in these phones because many people have had the same problem.
I just wanted to share this in case anyone has had the same problem. I am lucky as I had the torx and small phillips head drivers to dis-assemble the device.
Hope this helps. -thejaxster

Good tip. How long did it take for you to take the phone apart in order to get to the microSD & then put it back together?
Alright so this problem arrives roughly a week ago. I was hoping it'd be gone by now, but nope. Worse than ever.
For reference. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505. Unlocked LTE international version.
Roughly 2 months ago I rooted and flashed the Echoe a kitkat rom v18. I also have Philz recovery flashed....
My sim card keeps disconnecting while I'm not even using my phone. It doesn't even have to be moving. It just happens. I'll get a message from my phone saying that the sim card has disconnected and to restart to fix the problem..... This rarely works, as when I reboot, I get the error of no sim card.... its really started to get on my nerves. I doubt it's the sim card, as there's never been any problems with it. I will take it into my carrier today and have it swapped out for a new one.
I've seen this problem happen to other people on these threads, yet no answer has arrived. I've reset tp factory etc blah blah blah. I've even uninstalled the last 30 new apps I've installed, and the problem has yet to sort itself. I've tried taping the sim card, putting paper on the top and reinserting. Everything. It hasn't had any major drops for about 4 months so I doubt that is the issue. Only time it's dropped is when I drop it onto my bed....
Has anyone else had this problem? Have a fix? I can't stick it back under my warranty as I've flashed the recovery and rom... voids it does it not?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
I suppose it could depend on modem vs wrong RIL, but unsure. I had such behavior on my old S2, but fixed it with proper modem/RIL combo. Have you checked your logs in data/logs? How many of anomalous logs you have there?
Tried popping in another Sim card, just to exclude yours?
This happened to me. I was using a cut up full size card, replacing it with a micro sim solved it. I replaced the sim tray anyway just in case it was that. It was 5 min job and the parts like a fiver
Sent from my GT-I9500
So I've replaced the microsim with another microsim (both were originally microsims). .. unresolved. Nothing has happened for the past couple of days until it happened yesterday... now nonstop again. I know it's not the sim because it happened even after I replaced it. It just had a couple of quiet moments. Now I suppose my next try is for replacing the sim tray myself. Fingers crossed. Also. No, I wouldn't know a clue on how to even get my logs. Haven't even thought of it. I'll do that when I next get the problem and am forced to reboot. Thank you.
Okay so I've found something possibly helpful. I've only just noticed that this usually happens when my battery hits 100%. I've removed all apps that tell me my battery info..... I hope that was the cause. I'll update tomorrow.
