DreamSpark.com is improving their registration process to make accessing developer software and partner benefits, such as their Windows Phone Marketplace offer, much easier. DreamSpark.com will be updating the registration system starting July 1, 2014, and they now require you to use a Microsoft Account.
Starting on July 1, 2014, when you sign in to DreamSpark.com you will be asked to associate your DreamSpark.com account with a valid Microsoft Account. This is a onetime exercise to ensure you continue to have access to DreamSpark.com, and in no way affects your current software download history or capability to download new software.
To make it easy for you to complete this account association and transition, they have created a very simple process that allows you to quickly associate your DreamSpark.com account with your Microsoft Account. The next time you sign in to DreamSpark.com you will be prompted with instructions detailing what you need to do. They're estimate this will take no more than five minutes to complete. If you do not have a Microsoft Account, you will be able to create one during this process.
Please log in to DreamSpark.com today to associate your accounts so that you will not lose access to DreamSpark.com. If you do not complete this association by September 30, 2014, you will be required to create a new account and verify your student status again. Please take action now so you do not lose access to DreamSpark.com. For more information, refer to their Frequently Asked Questions regarding this change, or contact them.

Hello,
Well it seems that 4smartphone is a) making me move to OL2007 (which is fine) and b) raising my rate before my prepaid term is up.
I got a reply email today telling me how to migrate to the Exchange 2007 server. It further stated to pick a new account plan. And when I completed the migration let them know so they can kill my old account.
I replied back thinking that the new rate plan would take effect next July as I just renewed in July. They stated that no, the new plan would be effective at the time of migration and that they would issue me a refund.
So...............
I think I am just going to leave 4smartphone and look for another hosted Exchange provider.
As such I have a few questions.
Should I expect any problems with the nominally priced hosted account that is featured in this forum. And I say that with all due respect to the person that hosts it. According to the message there is a slight fee so I think it's a fair question. What kind of down time (if any) has there been in the last 6 months?
How about mail2web? Do they offer Exchange 2007 and IMAP access?
And finally, I know when I change providers my email is lost. That's fine as I keep it backed up with Gmail and Thunderbird. But what about my contacts and calander? Do they stay on the phone when I delete a AS connection, and then hopefully sync up the first time I sync?
I'm not in much need of using the client OL itself as long as I can use the OWA, and ideally IMAP. As such what are some other providers I can look into?
Thanks
David
I too got the same email and frankly I'm slightly irritated that they are forcing customers off the old platform and onto a higher cost service. I do appreciate that they are upgrading to the latest and greatest, but this way of doing business is rather... unfriendly.
The whole idea of a prepaid service is that you lock in the price for the entire term of the service. You don't see annual travel passes being cancelled and having their price jacked up.
Anyway I'm with you there, I am considering taking my business elsewhere - doing some research now. If you have Outlook installed, you can create a new PST file and COPY all your existing data hosted on the Exchange (mail, tasks, calendar, contacts) into the PST - when you get on your new service you can copy them back. This way you shouldn't lose anything.
I'm investigating 1and1, let me know how your story turns out.

Got the email today from 4smartphone.
I'm probably going to go with the person on the forums that provides the service.
I'm not worried about my mail as all my mail goes to my Gmail account and I simply forward selected messages to my WM device.
I should then able to copy my pim.vol file on my device and if I lose my contacts and calender just copy the file back and replace the new one.
D
So which provider did you end up going with?
I went with the gentlemen on the forums here that provides a service.
Been with him for almost 3 months and I've had no problems at all.
I just wanted to make sure everyone knows what's going on, I just received this e-mail from mail2web:
Dear mail2web LIVE Customer,

we want to let you know about. We're very glad that you've found your
mail2web LIVE account useful. It has always been our intention to
provide high quality and affordable Exchange solutions, and we have done
our best to keep the mail2web LIVE service free over the years. However
due to our planned upgrade to Exchange 2007 and to changes in our
licensing agreements with Microsoft, there will be some changes to your
service.
If you no longer want to keep your account, do nothing and it will be
cancelled on May 1, 2009. If you want to keep your account, please read

----------------------------------------
*** Why are you discontinuing FREE ActiveSync? ***
Our free mail2web LIVE service with ActiveSync based on Microsoft
Exchange 2003 was a very popular service, and we're glad that we were
able to provide this for so many years. We have done our best to
maintain the service and the platform for as long as possible. However
we remain committed to offering the latest and greatest services to our
customers, and in order to do that the best way is to upgrade our
platform to Microsoft Exchange 2007. And unfortunately due to some
licensing changes that come along with Microsoft Exchange 2007, we're no
longer able to provide ActiveSync for free.
*** Will there still be a free service? ***
We are still committed to providing a free version of mail2web LIVE, and
as such will be launching our new mail2web LIVE Basic service which
includes a vastly improved Outlook Web Access. Also, the mail2web LIVE
Basic service will be completely ad-free!
*** Can I synchronize my mobile device with mail2web LIVE Basic? ***
No. Unfortunately the ActiveSync Service, BlackBerry Add-On and RoadSync
Add-On are not supported with the mail2web LIVE Basic service, and
therefore you will be unable to synchronize your mobile device. We
recommend that users who require this try our free 60-Day Trial of the
new mail2web LIVE service.
*** Why should I stay with mail2web.com? ***
We certainly hope you will! We appreciate that you've found the service
useful for as long as we've offered it. One of our primary commitments
is to serve our paying customers to the best of our ability, and we feel
that the free mail2web LIVE Basic service still offers value for those
users that need it. And for users who need ActiveSync, our hope is that
you find the monthly fee to be satisfactory along with all the service
improvements that come with Exchange 2007.
*** Why do I have to upgrade if I'm happy with my current service? ***
Unfortunately, due to a number of changes we are unable to maintain any
existing users on our Exchange 2003 platform. We apologize for any
inconvenience and hope that you will find value in our new Exchange 2007
based services.
*** I'm ready to go! What can I do to get started? ***
If you are choosing to migrate to our new mail2web LIVE services, you
will need to log into your control panel and confirm your upgrade. You
can do this by visiting the following web address and log in with your
email address and password.
https://support.mail2web.com/FreeServices/Exchange/ManageAccount2003.asp
Then click on the "Click here to migrate your account" link to get
started. Please note that your account be queued for immediate
migration, so make sure you update your settings first!

Personally, I rely on mail2web to push my work e-mail to my phone, and have no intention of paying $5/mo (unless the company wants to pay for it). I'm sure I'm not the only one using it for this purpose and wanted to make sure those who do are aware of this impending change.
thanks for the headsup! i am actually surprised that i haven't received that email myself... or maybe i just haven't checked hmm...
anyway, i too use mail2web for pushing my gmail onto my wm phone and have been happy with it for a good while now; shame that they're introducing a fee but then again i suppose 5$ a mo isn't really too much and i have no issues with commiting to that if that's the only option i have...
unless someone knows a decent free exchange solution that i could use instead? any ideas?
Again I have not yet received the email.
If it's purely email you are looking for then try Seven Beta, they pick up gmail quite nicely as well as the majority of other email accounts.
Think I may have to sign up to the basic package as i have started to use the mail2web address for many things.

you might want to look in to seven beta it gives the option to push your work email might have to install some stuff on your actual work system if you can but it works pretty well
www.community.seven.com along with giving you access to global contacts and also accessing your calendar i don't use those features but the email works and pushes fast i'm using it on a edge connection and get them within the same minute of them being sent on my phone using seven

yea same here it's easier to get appoints me through outlook and let contacts sync up wasn't there somebody on the boards that hard there own server? i think for like 5 bucks a year or something like that or like 25 for the whole year i remember somebody one had a server though
I received the email 15 days ago and I did the upgrade.
I'm now testing the 60-day free trial: everything works well and finally you view the mail in html
Even though I do not have intention to pay to read mail, and I hope that in these 2 months google implements its Sync with the email and I'llmove smoothly to that.
As i said above, try Seven Beta, it works for me for my non mail2web mail. They say it will do Google contacts and calendar as well but i have yet to try it.
I've also received this email and this troubles me cause I use Mail2web excessively to sync my contacts.
Obviously I"m using the free version cause Who Wants to pay for email ?
If there is no other alternative I"ll just have to setup my own Server.. this is really disappointing. I liked there services And them saying that this Services are not available free cause of Licensing is lame and not tru

Hey Folks,
managed to install Win8 Consumer Preview without any problems..running smooth and stable on a medion AIO Touch Machine..
Also managed to create a domain account on that machine..
Question :
We have a Exchange Server 2003 in our local network..i tried to create a connection in the Mail app by adding an account -> Exchange, entered all the required informations and tried to connect, without success, after 2 minutes always failed.
Anyone an idea what could be wrong or is it just because of the consumer preview.
Or is it a thing because of SSL ?...
But there are no possibilities to configure them...
Any hint is highly appreciated.
Saludos
Sunny
Got the exact same problem. Looks like its ok at first since a green box appears to the left, and then it says syncing right before it fails and asks for further details.
Then i just get "[email protected]" not available. Think its just broken in the preview.
Same Problem with Exchange 2007.
I installed Win 8 on my Lenovo X220T. When I want to use the calender it tells me to register a microsoft account, but frankly spoken, I don't want to. So is there a way to directly add an exchange account, where all my calendar data is stored? And where do I add an exchange account?
Thanks!
What is weird is I had Exchange working fine by signing into the Microsoft Account and setting it up. But then I joined our domain, and now I cannot get it to connect at all.
It may be a glitch in this preview, but try un-joining the domain and see if it works for you then. I just did that, and my Exchange inbox is running again.

So, what does that mean? Does it mean that I HAVE TO sign up a microsoft account in order to not syncing with it, but with my exchange server? I want to directly sync with my exchange server... windows phone 7 can do it as well...

I couldn't find a way to not sign into a MS account before setting up my exchange account (but yes, after that it directly syncs).
This could easily be because this is a consumer preview, of course. But I have a MS account, so it wasn't a big deal to me. I signed in, and it let me sign into the exchange account.
But again, the odd thing is once I joined the domain, I lost the ability to set this up. When I left the domain, the exchange account worked again.
For now I'm just chalking that up to pre-release weirdness, and using it off domain.

Yes, Exchange 2007, uses SSL.
Attached is what the display looks like once it's up. Sorry for all the redacting, but I don't want to spread anyone's personal info.
The inbox is pretty basic, and your options are limited, but then I've not installed an Office product or anything, I'm just connecting through its normal interface, the way I would through Windows Phone or the like.
Going to try installing Office in the Desktop environment today I hope. No idea if that'll work at all.
Connected to 2 Exchange Servers
FWIIW I've got it connected to two Exchange Servers (a corporate 2007 system and a hosted 2010 system) and it is working.
A few notes:
Those that have commented here about having to first logon with an MS Live account (if joined to a Domain or using a Local User Account/Profile) I am seeing the same thing. Not real happy with this (actually I’m not real happy with a lot of App issues surrounding the whole “must use a Windows Live Logon/Profile to get the full features of this App approach but I promised myself I’d not do the rant in this post”) However once that has been done it appears that you can set up multiple accounts with ease.
Having corporate IT correctly set up Exchange Front-End Certs and Mobile Device Policies correctly are critical (and yes, I’ve designed a few Exchange systems in my time so I know some of the mistakes that can be made there) so if people are seeing policy-applied errors or sync refusal problems it could be because of the Beta nature of the app but I’d also would be looking at the Front-End or CAS server setups as well as currently deployed policies (depending on the version of Exchange)
Overall my impression so far is that the App feels remarkably like the original email/calendar App in WP7, which is a shame because what MS should be shooting for is an App that works more like the WP7 Mango version. Like that version I’d really like to see the following:
• Option to create separate tiles for each account or selectively combine accounts together at the users discretion (this feature kicks ass over the iPhone/iPad/Android options right now and I want it in Metro as well)
• Option to select Calendars and Colors that I want to use in the Calendar Function (right now I get every Calendar folder I have created on both exchange servers – hated that on the pre-Mango WP7 and hating it on WP8 DP as well
• Needs to work correctly regardless of whether it is a domain account, local account, or MS live account (seriously MS, this should be a no-brainer)
With only 36 hours to really bang on it so far I’m sure I’ll find a few more quirks but so far it kind of sorta works as advertised for me. Juts needs a LOT of refinement
Actually I am creating an android App. In which app user buy products online.
After successfully placing order. I need to generate bill and show it user which he may store it on mobile.
I have no clue how i am gonna do that.
few aprroches in my mind as of now.
1. Get cart data from the app to server-> make bill in pdf or suitable formaton server-> send it to app's inbox as well as to email.
2. Get cart data from the app to server -> then whenever user request send data to app to dynamically generate bill from received data.
App flow :
User--> browse products -> add products in cart -> place order-> after successful ordering generate the bill and mail or show it aps inbox
If any one has alternative solution or want to suggest ifferent flow please feel free to share

I have decided to go with Approch Number 1
Generate invoice.pdf with php on server and open in web view of pdf in app and optionaly ask for mail or download invoice.
Your approach seems good! What I would do apart from it is, save the cart item in database associated with the user. You may use your own username/password pair to place the order or use AccountManager class to use the user's registered gmail id on the phone as login. Or even better, provide them option to use any one of them. That way, user can request duplicate invoice anytime they want from cart history.
Hint: After placing order, always catch the cart to local DB so that it can be viewed offline. Also, use php to connect to db of remote server and perform operations. Never connect to db directly from the app because you have more chances of compromising your remote DB with this method
P.S: I just noticed that your app "Nomadic Food" Is not licensed. Please consider including a license so that the source belongs to you forever. Its always good to license opensource projects. I personally prefer GNU GPL license. But you can choose whatever suits you better. this this might help you select the license.
