AT&T G3 D850 bootloader - G3 General

Just talked with AT&T for about 2 hours trying to get someway of unlocking the bootloader for the D850. Ended in the expected no. I made sure the tech support person passed up the message of if they don't want people switching to T-Mobile help the very very few people that want a unlocked bootloader. So in saying that I believe that if a huge amount of people bug the hell out of their carrier everyday they might just might help with the bootloader.

I have to disagree with you. Bugging them will be a waste of your time and breath. That tech that you spoke with probably wanted to tell you to go pound sand, especially after wasting 2 hours of his time with this. Did you honestly expect he would unlock your bootloader during that phone call? What were you trying to achieve when you called?

Jesus guy take it easy.

No I wasn't expecting him to unlock my boot loader during a call I'm not retarded. Just wanted info on at unlocking them. Because I bet you anything someone in that corporation has a way to do it. So there for if a big number of people ask and complain and threaten to switch to tmobile maybe just maybe they would change their dumb ways.

I feel ya... Im just saying that bugging them wont do anything. I think the best chance we have (if any) is signing that petition that is currently going around. Im sure there is a way to unlock it. I also think that we have a better shot at loki then unlocking the BL. I dont get paid to think though
BTW - I reread my last post, sorry for being a ****

Its cool man. I didn't know about a petition. I know I've only had an account here for all of 2 days but I've been rooting and jailbreaking phones for years. I know something can be done in regards to Loki or bl just wish there was a way to speed things up.

Live chat with a rep is pretty much a quick 10 minute thing. I have no problem integrating it into my daily routine and take 10 minutes of my time to bug the hell outta ATT.

Why dont you guys just get the T-Mobile variant which has the same bands and get it unlocked so you can use it on ATT?
Problem solved!

Because I hate T-Mobile they screwed me over way to many times. Plus i don't have 600$ to dish out right now. Other wise i would haha.

Deleted, wrong thread, sry..

NOTE TO ALL. DO not help theives.

These "pattern lockout please help" threads are the worst attempt at recovering stolen phones. Its obvious thw thieves create multiple accounts on xda, Then reply with things like "this is happening to me too" It supposed to build their credibility by creating small layers of trust. Its to make you think "Oh, well if multiple people are having an issue, maybe this is just another failure in the long list of problems."
I wouldnt be suprised if they start pm'ing people who attempt to help.
The bottom line is, this is a weak attempt to socially engineer you to break the law by helping them break the law. We all know that if you forget your pattern its easy enough to recover from it. My son locks my phone once a week from incorrect pattern entry. With my G1 it was married to one google account so i was forced to recover via gmail. Therefore if they are the true owners they will have no problem recovering.

Bump. Sticky this.
I agree with the OP, theres alot of phones on ebay and craigslist of the locked android phones. I sent a message to an ebay seller and his response was the phone was as is, but fully working. Would not go into detail when I asked him was it user error or stolen. My initial Vibrant I bought was stolen and I had no security installed. That mistake wont happen again but Please dont help the theives.
what if the person is being honest, and they are really pattern locked out, and they don't know anything about android? LOL that would suck, but I agree, lets not help thieves.
Yeah pretty much a big f you. I am a legit owner who was locked out the day I got my phone. Gmail did not unlock it so I called tmo. They walked me through a master unlock which made things worse, as now all my gmail info was deleted. Thank goodness there were people willing to help and I was able to get my phone back up and running. Its people like you who really make it hard for someone to get the help they need here on xda.

it happens, but tough ****, we can't determine the real idiots from the thieves so it's best to help no one get past the unlock screen.
(although on stock vibrant there is a known issue that the pattern unlock does not go away even if you do the right thing)
While I do agree we shouldn't help thieves, we shouldn't make such a blanket statement. Just because you get locked out of your phone doesn't mean you stole it. I've had customers whose friends tried to unlock their phone and locked them out.
But I can see it now all the unhelpful vultures on here as soon as someone asks about being locked out of their phone. "ZOMG THIEVE CALL THE POLICE, TELL THE MODS, TRACK THEIR IP, THEIR WORSE THAN HITLER!!!!"

i am not saying that if a customer brings their phone into my store i am not going to help then(i would get reprimanded for that) but online i have no way of knowing if they are telling the truth or not. when people bring their phone into the store you can usually tell if they are telling the truth or not, or you have a hundred tools at your disposal as a rep that will tell you whether or not they bought the phone and/or it is theirs
I am not suggesting there are not circumstances where everything goes wrong and you are unable to sign in using your gmail account to unlock. Wait... yes i am. If you are in this situation it is 100% your fault.
Take ownership of your phone and whats on it.
If it were so easy to circumvent 2 layers of secuirty on a locked android device... then why even have it on there.
Most if not all people looking to get around the pattern unlock are in possesion of a phone they dont own.

or they are completely retarded like 90% of my customers, there are thousands of people out there that have an android device and have no clue what their gmail password is because the sales rep set all that up for them and made sure that when they walked out the door they would have no problems. at least once a week i get customers that come in and tell me that they locked themselves out of their phone and i know they did because A) i sold it to them and set it up B) a co-worker sold it to them and i set it up C) they are old. most people don't bother to remember passwords just like they don't remember phone numbers, because technology has the ability to remember stuff for us then why the hell should we have to use our brain at all?
i am not saying that we should walk people through how to get past it, i am just stating that some people really are that stupid and can't remember unlock patterns or passwords, or phone numbers or whatever else. frankly i think even i have locked myself out of my old G1 because i changed my pattern and then forgot what is was(i changed mine once a week) just because i changed the pattern doesn't mean i stole it, it means i'm an idiot
i have also seen phones that will not let you use the gmail credentials even though you can use those same credentials to log in via computer. just because someone is stupid does not make them a thief, although being a thief makes them stupid

Overall you are correct. I deal with people all the time that dont know tech at all. The only thing I see wrong with your logic is that those type of people would not be on this forum. If the people bought the phone through a legit source they can go back to that store and get it unlocked or replaced.

Listen, there is a flaw with the fail safe of the patern lock. Its supposed to verify your google account info. It completely failed for me. First I was told I had to do it using 3G and not wi-fi. But neither worked. T mo actually replaced my phone because I got licked out
locked. They saw the error when I showed them I could log on with a computer but not with the phone which I had a receipt for.
Try it for yourself. Enter the wrong code until it asks for google verification.
Before you get your panties in a wad, why not see if there's a bug here after all.

Ya good luck with that. Why would they want to make it easier for you to access the phones bootloader? Unless they are going to sell it with no warranty. I mean really that's like buying a new car taking the motor apart putting it back together with different parts then expecting the manufacture to pick up the bill when it all goes bad. They aren't going to do it no matter how much you beg for it. Even the person trying to make the petition understands the reason for them not doing it. To sell more phones. The general public doesn't mess with or care to mess with their phones they want it to turn on and just work. So what maybe 2% really care to tinker with their phones. Ya don't think they are going to do what your asking for even 10 or 20% of their customer base.
Would it be nice sure..I like to play with my phones and thanks to place like this site I can. I just don't see it happening anytime soon. They are only going to get more and more locked down.

no not at the moment. here in germany the sensation is already available and locked. maybe they will open it up some time but for now this is just for future phones excluding the evo 3d. think this also will come with loced bootloader and maybe it will be possible to unlock it some time.

HTC have announced that locked bootloaders will be no more!
Good news. I wonder if they are going to unlock existing bootloaders?
Great news \o/
http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/26/htc-officially-dissolves-locked-bootlader-policy/
Hey congrats I guess. Can't complain about them doing it. It's just something you would think they wouldn't want to do. I was proven wrong and I have no problem saying.
Not trying to piss in anyone's Cheerios, but they probably didn't see nor care about an online petition, especially with only 7000 sigs. That's a drop in the ocean.
Trust me, a company like HTC isn't going to make such an announcement on a whim, it's gonna go through the company ranks for pros/cons, profit projections, etc... The idea would have started internally in HTC well before anyone set up that petition.
It would be interesting to see their true reasons for the decision. I highly doubt it's for "the betterment of the community". They have to think it will increase profits.
Either way, works out great for us. Now all they need to do is open up their drivers, etc.. and we'd be set.
well why have they started locking them now with the sensation and evo 3d?
have you read the post on facebook? i don't think this was a marketing thing and i don't think that they would have locked it up again if nobody complained.
Great news! The best part is that they really listen to people.

What are the odds that a Samsung or ATT employee will leak an unlock for the boot...

I was thinking, what are the chances a Samsung or ATT employee would leak the necessary files to unlock the bootloader. Surely they have the know-how/files somewhere, and know that hundreds of people want the bootloader to be unlocked. Truly, they would leave most phones alone since I'm sure most of us XDA members barely make up a fraction of the total Android phones..
It shouldn't be that hard for an employee to get the necessary files for this, right? I'm not a hacker by any means, but I do love customizing my phones and having what bootloader and rom I want on it.
Any thoughts?
I doubt Att even has it. They ordered them from Samsung with this bootloader. I would think that Samsung would have to release a new bootloader chain to unlock it.

[BOOTLOADER UNLOCK] Sign the petition and help get our G4 bootloaders unlocked!

It's been previously posted before, but this needs to be shared more widely and thoroughly. This is the only somewhat way we've advanced in being able to unlock our bootloader, we NEED more people to sign this petition. If LG sees what we've done and how far we've pushed with this petition so far they have to consider it, or atleast give us a message back on everything. Even if they deny, this petition is still enough to get us noticed by developers and people much more well equipped to crack the bootloader and then release a tutorial or program able to do it for us.
If LG sends us a statement refusing to unlock the bootloader, then that's more than enough of a reasonable cause for other developers and people who can crack it to get involved. It would probably cause an uproar in the LG community here on XDA either forcing LG to reconsider, or encouraging other people to help us.
PLEASE SIGN! Lets make progress in getting our bootloader unlocked!

There has been many emails sent all the same. They have no intentions on unlocking any other g4s.
I know nobody wants to hear it but. I feel now that the g5 is out this is a outadate smartphone and i feel every company should provide unlocks for outdated and outa waranty devices. But hopefully some one figures somthin out on the g5 and it may work for g4 then but prob not. I wont say never but i most def aint buyin lg for a long time

I wont being buying LG either unless they make a very good quality phone again. But in all honesty this phone with the 60fps alone kills other phones completely. I own the S7 now along with the S6 edge and the camera on this with the 60fps mod is very comparable to the S7's. Only huge difference is stability and zoom. Im very happy with the G4 and its a great home use device for me, but the S7 is my daily. I would buy LG again but I need to see better build quality and more customization like S6 or S7.
To extend on the warranty thing you said. G4's are still very much under warranty lol I picked mine up early January. So they are still selling G4's out there meaning they wont lose warranty for at least another year, which could mean no bootloader unlock officially from LG until then but who knows in all honesty. Id like to work with a dev on this and get us unlocked but thats very hard to for free now a days.
i will stick with my H818N until arive Samsung Note 6 (dual-sim) ... then i wish to never hear about buying LG phone ....
Phone hardware manufacturers are only obligated to do a carrier unlock (usually called a SIM unlock) if you buy the device outright or if you complete your contractual obligation, and only for phones manufactured in 2013+. There is no requirement for them to unlock the bootloader.

Is there truly a way to get past the FRP security?

For starters, I've got the Tmobile version (not sure if that makes a difference, but I figured I should say it)...
I'm sure I tried everything I could except the method that involves the OTG cable. Trying to root it or apply twrp recovery only fails each and every time through odin.
I tried Smartswitch. I tried Kies... Kies actually took a really long time and I thought it was going to work, but it didn't.
I even tried to do some wifi/server things with another phone by using thethering (is what I believe it was)...still no luck.
The phone belonged to a sister of mine, but she couldn't remember the password she used to log in. She passed the phone on to my dad. He was never able to get in and now I've got it.
I thought rooting it would fix the problem, but that's because I knew about the chokehold security on it... the FRP business.
Can someone please help me? My sister says she's working on it (which probably means she isn't or it's on the back burner). I would really like to use the camera on the S5.
Is there another direction I can go in to get into this phone? It's driving me a little nuts at this point.
good luck getting around it without paying an unlocking company. if its actually your sisters phone, you might want to poke the bear, otherwise youre gonna be spending $?? to get it unlocked. I say ?? after the $ because of the variability of the price from site to site. I know that idoneapps.com does it for $35, and i trust their work completely, but ive also seen people talking about other sites advertising that theyll do it for less from companies out of zimbabwe. take the location of the company for what its worth. Anyways, poke the bear aka, your sister (no insult intended, just a euphemism)
Thanks -- offense taken. I hope she's able to recover the password. I was almost certain I'd get a reply like this. It's annoying, but here I go-a-pokin. Thanks.

Come to find out that my sister had dropped the phone and couldn't turn it back on. She sent it to our dad... and he wiped the phone without thinking to turn off the security. He didn't know though... he came from an S4 and I don't think they had it on there. I've got a note 3 (my first real smartphone) so I had no clue this would happen.
He keeps telling me it's google and not Samsung. Apparently a year or so ago when he asked her for the password, she said she emailed google and they were going to send her the password in two weeks... I asked why two weeks and he couldn't give me an answer.
This truly is the pits. I'm literally still waiting for a call from either of them at this point.
