I would like to mount the internal and external storage via 'USB MOUNT' like what I normally use on Galaxy based phones, I tried checking the debugging mode and it still launches the MTP application, is there a way around this ?
I'd like to know this too!
AFAIK mtp is the new way to connect for honeycomb, ics onwards.
google moved away from usb mounting after 2.3

In short, no.
That's interesting because the new ICS-equipped Coby 9742 mounts as a regular, removable drive rather than a MTP device. That, and when the Samsung 10.1 and 8.9 were released without microsdhc provisions I was dumbfounded, a certain dealbreaker. Two disturbing trends:
1) MTP
2) no microSDHC/XC
My HTC Sensation running an ICS rom, also still has the standard USB mass storage mode too. It may be something a Rom developer can add as part of their Rom.
Okay so first of all, i am very happy with my galaxy s4. i used to have galaxy s (very first one) and the galaxy s3 for a month but returned due to random reboot issues. anyways, what bugs me the most is the lack of USB Mass Storage Mode. I know MTP has some benefits, that for example you can listen to your music on the phone while you mess around on the file system through MTP. But still, the disadvantages are worse in my opinion.
so first of all, copying to my s4 with mtp is slower than copying to my s1 with ums.
whenever i try to copy a video file, windows always asks me if i really want to do that because my device won't be able to play it (wtf?)
and some other minor quirks but still, enough for me to want to go back to ums
So things I tried (of course my devide is rooted):
SGS3 easy UMS, didn't work
sadly, su, setprop persist.sys.usb.config mass_storage, reboot didnt work either
so any other ideas would be very helpful

if you go into the app store there is usb mode switches which allow you to do exactly what your talking about, your phone needs to be rooted but that is not a problem as you said ur is rooted, just type in usb in the search bar as there are literally hundreds, i have not tried these yet because i have not yet rooted my S4 as am not sure which is suitable for my version, hope this helps a little maybe ?

I have tested all of the USB Mass Storage programs from the Play Store. But none of them actually works.
I can get it to mount the microSD card though, but it's not possible with the internal memory atm.

really, that's a pain, have you tried the sgs3 easy ums apk. link below or is it the same thing, i always had usb mode enabled on my s3 but actually never really noticed about it only been for the micro sd and not for the internal storage.
this is what i used on my s3 but it is ok for other samsung models as well
http://tutznet.com/81-enable-mass-storage-mode-samsung-galaxy-s3/.
P.S, unrelated question. your s4 when you bought it,was it locked to a specific network? i mean like the firmware? do you have custom rom or new firmware on it? are you usa or uk or from other country, i am on "three" uk network, and am wanting to root and custom firmware but could do with advice about which roms can go on to a firmware specific phone.
*UPDATE*
I JUST READ ON ANOTHER FORUM THAT THIS DOES EXACTLY THE SAME THING only mounts the sd card not the internal storage, Sorry

The reason why the internal memory doesn't gets mounted is probably because the internal memory is located at /storage/emulated/0 or /storage/emulated/legacy now. And this is not the same location as it have been on the Galaxy Note / Note II and Galaxy S III.
So someone have to make a new USB mount program that mounts that location.
as I wrote in my first posting SGS3 easy UMS doesnt work at all for me. Not even the external Micro SD. Am I doing something wrong? External would be a big help. Internal I can do without it
I hope this gets sorted out because it's really annoying to click OK for warnings and wait a lot longer with MTP.
MTP is sux and SLOW ! , it changed file created date , I can't see Linux hidden files (names start with "point")
, at least External SD card should be with an option to use as USB Mass Storage !.
I rooted my phone just for this option, and even root didn't help
I have tried SGS3_Easy_UMS_v1.2beta2.apk and it doen't work well (PC can see disk , but not what inside disk)
All I can do is to remove external SD card and connect to card reader, but it's annoying !
also have tried some apk, nothing works...(I have I9500)
so i guess no news reagarding usb mass storage mode?

CyanogenMod 10.1?
With my SGS2 I used the program Android Commander on my pc to access the root files of my phone.
Somehow Android Commander doesn't recognize my rooted S4.
I am looking for a way to connect my rooted S4 to my pc and access the root files. Would anyone know how to do this?
Just plugged in a 32gb usb drive - it found it immediately on WanamLite rom and automatically opened My Files app. Never did try on stock rom, tho...

This is also what I was planning to post.
You can find more info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297888
I have used it and it works flawless
Just wanted to confirm about S4 thay you can't plug in to USB and have the storage displayed. my s3 shows options to access phone and card when ive connected to pc but missus's s4 just shows the name of the phone and comes up with an error message. drivers aren't installing for it either so there may be other issues
cheers

Install that. Then install busybox from the market. Then open BusyBox, click the install button within the app, now plug your phone in, go back to the UMS enabler and choose USB Mass Storage. Your micro sd card will now work.

It is simple, you go to the USB icon in the status bar, and select Camer (PTP), it automatically unselects MTP modus.
Now your S4 acts as a storage, you can access phone and SD card from the PC
Edit: I was too quick, I can see folders but not all files.... sorry, just got my S4 today
Not sure how widely known or unknown the whole topic is, but I haven't found a specific guide for the device. If unnecessary, delete this thread.
So, before starting, I'll let you know what I used.
- A car with a USB entrance (2011 Honda City, in my case)
- A phone (I am currently using a gt-i9300 with temasek's CM10.1, may or may not work with others)
- SGS3 Easy UMS
- (Optional, may be necessary): USB to microUSB cable
- (Optional, may or may not work otherwise) A microSD card, also known as an external memory card.
So, to summarize, I'm using a 64GB (FAT32 formatted) microSD card, with my GT-i9300 with an AOSP rom and a Honda City.
I am also storing ALL my music on the external SD card. I am unaware if this works on the internal SD card, since I have NO music files on there and I haven't bothered to try it out.
Steps I have taken to get it working:
1- Connect to the car's USB port.
2- Run SGS3 Easy UMS
3- Give root permissions and select UMS mode (will take roughly 5 seconds to activate).
4- That's it. Don't forget to set your device to MTP if necessary (if connecting to computer or whatever, and it's not recognized in UMS mode).
Alternatively, in my case it doesn't work anymore after I replug the USB cable. Using the "Mount card" or "MTP" options does nothing for me, and there are 2 ways to get it back working:
1- Reboot
or
2- Go to storage -> Unmount card -> Mount card back again -> select UMS mode again.
Images attached as proof.
This look cool. I am wondering about streaming music. I'm continuing to search for a way to pandora or spotify via USB with my GS3 in my 2014 accord. I'm rooted running a 4.3 based touchwiz rom.
Has anyone found a solution for that? Will running the app you mentioned make that possible or is it just for local content?
