Z01 Android 4.2 3G Smart Bluetooth Watch - Other SmartWatches

Hi there,
didn't find, despite looking, any post regarding the watch I recently bought and about to receive, so take liberty to call for info if anyone has any.
The watch is sold in many sites as:
Z01 Android 4.2 3G Smart Bluetooth Watch 1.3GHZ MTK6572 Dual Core 4GB ROM Camera
Except for "Z01", no specific name or brand. The watch is merely described by its specs, as many other watches are.
The watch looks like this:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Does anyone have more details on it? Info on the producer / maker? I'm interested in the software it runs and the sources (I know it's gonna be hard to find any).
Update: been more lucky with my second attempt and finding more info on the Net.
Turns out this Z01 is actually the "DW08" by a Chinese company called something like DCool.
Cheers,
Ka.

same that simvalley MOBILE AW-414.Go = iconBIT NetTAB Callisto 300 = Omate Truesmart...
I'm wondering why Omate Launched a Crowfounding campaign for this smartwatch... they are so clever..

looks like another omate clone.
but with newer android??? would be nice if someone could test the rom on a truesmart

@kast have you been on the Omate smartwatch forum to get more info about this watch?
There's also the Z8 thread too. This was sold as Z8 too.
As far as standalone watches this seems like the best option to date. The InWatch Z is better but costs too much for a 2G radio.
What is your experience so far?
Does it come with PlayStore?
How's the battery life?
And importantly how does it work with notifications?
One issue was it wasn't secure.

Would be great if someone could port that watchface to Zgpax.

Hi there,
after a few days with it, can say I'm relatively pleased. Ok, watch is definitely "bulkier" than what the picture in the online store might suggests but it's working pretty well. With the watch forced in 2G, Wifi on (to connect when available) and moderate use, battery lasts about 1.5-2 days, which is pretty good, considering the wee battery it has.
No crashes or crazy reboots... Seems behaving quite nice. Too bad there is no way to get the kernel sources and hack it a bit.
It does come with the Play Store though and can be easily rooted.
Take care,
Ka.

Hi,
I also purchased the same watch phone named WP3 (...?).
I would appreciate some assistance:
First, how did you root it?
Second, is there a way to have widgets such as direct contact dial?
Third, in the watch AD. and checking with "Z Device Test" it "appears" as the watch has compass capability but practically it doesn't work... is it right?
Thank you in advance
George

I purchased an identical watch named "WP3" :
- It is waterproof
- Doesn't have FM radio
- Being waterproof - there are no inputs/plugs of any kind apart from 5 contacts that, using a special adapter, allows you to connect to micro USB.
- The only accessories are the special micro USB adapter and a tiny screw driver for SIM and SD card installation.

Rooting it is not that difficult as "adb shell" grants you a root shell.
With that you remount /system as rw:
busybox mount -o,remount rw /system
Grap the superuser update zip and extract it, then you adb push "su" to /system/xbin
remember to suid it (chmod 4755)
Then remount system ro:
busybox mount -o,remount ro /system
and install "superuser" or "supersu" from the store.
Those will update the su binary properly.
From memory, mind the steps

Thank a lot Ka,
My previous watchphone was the Z1 having Android 2.2 which I rooted simply running "Z4Root" application .
Is there something similar for this watchphone? Or any tutorial to follow step by step the method you explained from memory?
Sorry to bother you and thanks again for you assistance...

Thanks again,
I tried "SRSRoot" with no success - rooting was easy, the program indicated that the watch was rooted but the "Root Checker" concluded - "No Root Access".
On the other hand, I ran "RootGenius" - http://www.shuame.com/en/root/ (no setup needed) - and it went like a dream - couple of seconds and the watch was properly ROOTED (confirmed by "Root Checker") !!!!

Hello!
I'm happy to hear that the watch feels promising. Everything with it looks pretty good I'd say. I've been drooling for this watch for a few days now and I'm about to order one next week. I would like to have confirmation about some of the specs before buying if you have the time to answer.
1. Does it support sd card? There's not reference to it at dealsmachine dot com.
2. Where did you buy it yourself?
3. Does it have an audio plug? The site says it has 2.5mm audio plug, but I can't see it in the pictures. And the store would like to send a free headset with 3.5mm plug with the watch...
4. Does it get hot when used?
I know there's a lot of clones of this watch and it may have been sold by another name in different stores, but some of them could have some specs different. All in all the sd card support is the most important spec for me.
Thanks!

No need to answer anymore. I already ordered z15-model which seems to be roughly similar to the z01. I did check out some reviews of the site I was going to order the z01 and people didn't seem to be happy with it so I ordered elsewhere.
Z15 doesn't have support for sd cards either (unless there's a hidden slot under the "warranty void" back panel like some of truesmart...)
All the specs seems to be same as in the z01 except the form of the device is a little bit different.
Let's see what I'm going to get.

[FAQ]: SGS Vibrant i9000m (Bell), also applicable to other models

Data Connection 2G/3G/H
This phone when used on Bell's own network, it can only do 3G & H
(this is not a hardware issue but rather a network issue, there is a topic about this discussion, link coming soon)
However once unlocked the have full 1G(Cuba!)/2G(EDGE)/3G/H on Fido, Rogers, AT&T and any other network that supports the 850/1900/2100 band for data communication
Pre-installed Apps:
TeleNav GPS Navigator if you are not online via 3G or WiFi, you'll get an error message "This application is not available" or something along those lines
The application is not free, it wants you to register for $10 a month, it's safe to uninstall after rooting
BellTV Remote PVR only works if you have a Bell digital cable box for TV, it's safe to uninstall after rooting
Tunes & Apps it's just an Advertisement URL link, it tries to go
Code:
ads.bwanet.ca/getnew.jsp?request=PDAdownload
the link is dead anyways, it's safe to delete after rooting
TV & Radio supposedly to Watch Live TV, Listen to Music and Talk Radio... but it doesn't work.
It might be only available to people on Bell network, the error messages says

my recommendation uninstall it if you are rooted, there are better Apps in Android Market that offers the same feature & service
Kobo it comes included with the latest official ROMs. You might want to keep it if you are an e-book reader. It channels you to their online catalog of e-books. Depending from each point of view, it can be categorized as another Advertisement or a Tool.
Personally I'll uninstall it (you'll need to be rooted), the only thing I'll ever read in my phone are PDF files, for everything else i got RSS feeds, tons of e-mails/SMS to go through an lots of websites to keep me busy and relaxed.
AllShare a simple to use App to share your files in the phone to other devices wirelessly.
Worth keeping? Yes
Layar is more of a fun tool than a real utility, it lets you catalog and get info of nearby places where you are standing, it requires the GPS to be ON-line. This App is based on the Anime feature in Eden of the East.
Worth keeping? Yes
Navigation Google Maps Navigation, a simple to use Navigation tool that works out of the box.
Worth keeping? Yes
ThinkFree Office requires activation, but it's completely Free as the name implies (unlike other Apps which claims to be "free" but is crippled one war or another, or with Ads.) you can open and create Microsoft Word Doc, Spread Sheet, and PowerPoint slides, all from the tips of your fingers.
It takes a bit to get used to navigating around the software to do what would normally have been a simple task in the PC.
Worth keeping? Yes
Samsung Apps List of available freebies:
- eBooks by Kobo (the other piece of the forced on ROM Kobo eBook Market)
- Social Hub Push Email and IM (as the name implies it does everything, it's quite good infact, it adds additional supported services to the original version, now it can do Google Accounts, Hotmail/Live Accounts, Yahoo Accounts, Facebook Accounts, Twiter Accounts, MySpace Accounts)
- RoadSMS (SMS that lets you see behind the phone, the road or whatever your phone camera seems to be pointing... great App to check out on girls on the restaurant table in front of you )
- Robert Parker (wine guide)
- Radio Companion (i find it rather interesting, it lets you sing karaoke to the radio station you are listening to... well sort of, it will scroll and display the lyrics as the song plays on the radio station)
- Asphalt5 (racing game, full version, completely free, notice this is not the Asphalt5 HD)
- Vlingo Voice (voice control your phone, dictation, launch apps, etc)
- Krazy Kart Racing (from Konami) cartoonish kart racing game, fun!
- Facebook for Samsung the name says it all it's a new facebook apps from Samsung
- Movies App for movie show times, trailers and reviews

You may want to add something in here about Bell's lack of a 2g GSM network and checking if your phone has the download mode disabled or not. These seem to be 2 common questions on these forums about the Canadian I9000M.
Thanks for the reminder, yes this FAQ is a work in progress
The TV & Radio app is worth keeping if you are a Bell subscriber and into the idea. Basically it is a premium app, you have to pay for subscriptions to channels. But you can access content like live NHL games, HBO, etc.
It also lets you subscribe to and listen to Sirius sat. radio.
But if you don't have a 6GB plan it's a total non-starter.

i do it via busybox or any other terminal app
using command lines:
cd /directory/where/apps/reside
rm WhateverName.apk
there is a topic in one of the 23+ SGS sub forums with a full list of all the Apk safe to remove, but i can't find it because i forgot which of the so many forums we have are storing it
this is why we need this to happen

Edit: alright, I think I found'em. What's tn55-android-blur.apk? The TeleNav application by any chance?
updated
- Krazy Kart Racing (from Konami) cartoonish kart racing game, fun!
Any chance of an apk dump of "Social Hub Push Email and IM" and "Radio Companion" apps? (assuming that they are legal to share, these aren't in my JP3 app store).
I would also ask for Krazy Kart Racing, but pretty sure thats a paid app and I don't wanna break any rules lol..
Otherwise, if no-one can share anything... what firmwares are these apps available for? just the non-beta ones? or just for the bell i9000?
Yes, bell i9000m JH2 is the latest official ROM from Kies
it is compatible with I9000 international, but you will need Odin to flash it
or do the KIES cheat as mentioned in another topic, to make the changes in the registry, so it will download Bell JH2 for you.
But as far as i know, if they are included as freebies inside Samsung Apps, it should also be available to the international i9000 ROMs with Samsung Apps
Thanks for the reply AllGamer
Sorry that I'm a little confused, are the radio and social hub push email included in the firmware or downloadable from the samsung apps store?
Do you know how samsung app store determines phone version? Can we fake this through build.prop or something to download the latest apps, or does it have a more complicated check?
Only cause it seems that the number of apps available to JP3 is limited (and I wanna stick to this firmware for now, it's awesome )

Just wanted to post a reference link to my Mizuu Movies application thread, which is found under the Android Apps / Games section: Mizuu Movies - XDA thread
The application has been developed for Honeycomb on the Acer Iconia A500, and should support all Honeycomb tablets. There's a free and a paid version of the application - would really appreciate it if you'd try it out!
FREE VERSION • PAID VERSION
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for a great-looking app! It looks really promising, I'd love to use it, but unfortunately had some issues: I tried the free app, and it wouldn't find anything on the external SD. I saw that it should be supported now...is this just a matter of the free app not finding them? (I'm totally OK with buying it and probably will, just asking)
Anohter, bigger issue, is that is there a reason for only supporting a few, the official, file formats? Most of us (I'd guess) use players like Moboplayer and play mkvs and avis just fine, so I think many people have movies in other file formats on their devices. So it'd be great if you'd include those in scanning. Also, how does it recognize the movies? I tried with one home-made DVD rip of a kids' movie and it wasn't recognized...is there a way files should be named in order to be detected properly?
Your interface looks very fresh and the whole app sounds great, so I'd really like to use it, so it'd be great if you can consider this feedback for possible updates - thanks a lot!

Hey, thanks for your interest and great questions!
The free app is limited to 8 movies, and the internal memory is prioritized, so if you've got 8 movies on there, you won't be shown any files from the memory card - I can however assure you that it's working beautifully with the SD card on my A500
The next version adds support for .avi, .flv, .mkv, .ts and .webm - I could probably add a setting to enable other formats - could you kindly specify the ones you'd need?
The movies are recognized by their filename, i.e. "Avatar.mp4" will be recognized as Avatar. If your movies aren't properly recognized, please use the option to manually re-identify files in the individual movie details view. The button is located in the top right corner and looks like a search button. You can see the button in this picture: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=664450&d=1311528430
Hope that cleared things up
New version - v. 1.3.0
Please update and try it out.
Version 1.3.0 (July 26)
Lots of bug fixes
Improved UI
Added support for lots of file formats
Two new themes
Support for SD card in Asus Eee Pad dock
Option to use filename as movie title if no match is found
Hey!
Gave it a try, but it said I have no movies installed.
V1.3.1
MJ-12
I have a question?
Does this app just give you a description and trailer or can it also run the movie?
A button would be nice that could play the selected movie using whatever movie app we have installed.
I apologise if it has that option but I couldn't test it. Same problem as MJ-12.

Hey you two!
It's fully capable of doing just what you said, bpivk.
Have you guys tried v. 1.3.3? Just uploaded it. Please remember to check the check box at the initial search if you want it to include files that are not officially supported by the OS (.mkv, .avi, etc.)
Cheers!
Thanks man! Awesome app!
Thanks for the reply! I gotta say I love being able to have this type of an exhchanhge with a developer like yourself, very nice to be able to offer feedback and see results implemented!
The only format that came to mind right away is in probably mpg, but I don't really use it. Somebody might, I suppose. How about scanning the /mnt/external_sd? I use that for storage as well, so it'd be great to have scanned.
I love the way the app is shaping up, so I'll go and buy the paid version now for support - thanks for the app, I'll keep posting about requests if something comes to mind...haven't tried tv shows yet, are those scanned and recognized? If not, that'd be great too. Thanks!

You're welcome!
I'm assuming you're using an Iconia, since this is the Iconia section - is it really called "/mnt/external_sd" on your Iconia? It's called "mnt/external1" on mine, although I'm running custom ROM. That might be why.
Could you kindly post the directories for the external SD card (please verify) and the USB storage directory? I'll make sure to add them ASAP!
The app is capable of identifying TV shows, but it'll show an entry for each episode rather than a single entry for the TV show itself. I'll soon begin work on Mizuu TV Shows, which will cover the TV show aspect of things

Sure! I'm running the official 3.1 ROM, and the directories are:
Internal SD: /mnt/sdcard
(this shows up as /sdcard too, must be a link, looking at this from File Manager HD)
External SD: /mnt/external_sd
and then two usb folders, not sure how these are used (haven't plugged in USB storage ever): /mnt/usb_storage and /mnt/usbdrive. The other things in /mnt are /mnt/asec, /mnt/obb and /mnt/secure, I have no idea what these are.
Great to hear about the TV show app! Will you combine it under the same interface then, or will it be separate? I'd vote for the same interface, if possible, would make browsing all videos easier.
By the way, in your other thread you were looking for translators willing to help. That's what I do for a living anyway, so if you need help translating this to Finnish at some point, just send me a message and I'll be glad to help

Oh great - look out for the next update, I have added support for "/mnt/external_sd" (it's currently only supporting "/mnt/external1" for Iconia).
I'll probably create a separate application for it (sorry!), mainly because it's easier to promote and easier for people to find. Also, there'll be quite substantial database differences between movies and TV shows, so it's a lot easier to do it like this. Hope you'll understand
Thanks a lot for the offer! I'll definitely keep you in mind when the time's right!

View Type
Only thing I would like to see added. As with all movie players, managers, etc..
All of them I have the same issue with. I watch international movies and the file names can get long.
This being said, being able to view a LIST of my movies, is what I would like. The covers are great and all, but the option for a list would make my day and would earn you a new sale.
Great app! But I rarely have more than 8 movies on my tablet at any given time so the paid version wouldn't really benefit me. If you can add /mnt/sda1 and allow access to my external hard drive, you'd absolutely have a sale

Sure! I'll probably add a setting which will allow users to add a custom directory themselves. May I ask - is "/mnt/sda1" a standard directory? I don't see it on my A500.

Fast replies! That's a good dev for ya
Honestly, I'm not totally sure. I'm using Tabloonay currently, and have tried a few other ROMs before. I noticed that different ROMs use different paths to arrive at the external drive so I'd speculate it is a ROM thing? But I'm a noob, so this may be nothing more than an extremely uneducated guess One observation though; the sda1 only shows up under mnt/ when the drive is physically mounted to the iconia. Not sure if this is helpful info or common knowledge

Dear all,
finally, I got them...
I was able to install play store on mine.
First, needs root. The only one I found that worked was Baidu Root here.
http://root.baidu.com/
Once it's rooted, I installed Super SU
http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu
After Super SU, install Root Browser
http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.root.browserfree
After Root Browser is installed, download CM9 Gapps to your pc.
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
Unzip the zip file, and copy GoogleServicesFramework.apk and Phonesky.apk to the device.
edit: also copy GoogleLoginService.apk
Open Root Browser, and copy GoogleServicesFramework.apk and Phonesky.apk from wherever you copied it to /system/app. You cannot just install the play store APK's normally, they must be copied to /system/app. Change permissions to match other apps. Shut down device and restart. Play store should be in app drawer now. After running, it should auto update to latest play store version.
Overall, pretty good. Still some apps show as incompatible (such as chrome, sadly), but light years ahead of the BT100's play store compatibility. Plus I can always backup and side-load apps from my phone for any that show as incompatible on BT200. Quickpic works fine, diceplayer works fine. Great for some SMB movie streaming from my file server. Touchpad input is annoying as hell to use. If you stroke the very very edge of the touch-pad, it works as single line scroll. May be able to remap these later to back or home buttons, but then again if I use an external BT keyboard I'm afraid it might remap the cursor keys too. The visor lens is a little tricky to remove, you don't unscrew it, you pull it outward (if you were wearing the device, pull away from your eyes) by 2mm until it clicks then pull downward.
I don't know if you noticed, I don't see it in your pics, I have a clear visor lens included in the pocket here.
Also, the moverio camera quality absolutely blows.
alcuin,
first of all thenks for your suggests, I will add them in the main post. Yes... on my package I missed the clear visor lens you speak about. Could I have a picture of that accessory? I would contact Epson to get it back.
For the Software Development Kit, developers can work with the Wikitude SDK, a stand-alone (really priced sincerely, €2,499) package optimized for the BT-200.
It is possible to download a trial version of the Wikitude SDK (last update 3.2.2 - (24.02.2014)) after the registration from here: http://www.wikitude.com/download
It's a maintenance release as reported by the log: http://www.wikitude.com/developer/news/-/blogs/maintenance-update-wikitude-sdk-3-2-1
and I have some dubts if it is the same version of the commercial one as really outdated.
The Epson Moverio Documentation: http://www.wikitude.com/developer/documentation/epson
The Developers Forum, but without a specific area for our wearable glasses: http://www.wikitude.com/developer/developer-forum
Will post the lens pic, I keep forgetting when I go home from work, sorry about that

alcuin, don't worry. I should get my glass within that week as my dad sent it before to snap the pictures (I am working outside my hometown).
Here it is finally. I was wrong though, it's not a clear lens that's included; it's a darker lens, and one insert for using prescription lenses. If you want clear, just take off all the lenses.

Dear babyfish0226,
I did a review but it is en Italian language... now I rooted the glass and I have installed the Google Play and some apps just for testing. Sincerely I am not happy for that and I guess the Google Glass will outshine it quickly as the target is not the casual user than the professional. It isn't wearable for the "brick" you have to pick with you and the result of the projection is far from my old Sony HUD (HMZ-T2).
I have to play it more, I have to look into the core apps for more details but as Prelaunch product is really premature.

Dear Barend,
for the installation of extenal files, you have to enable the option for the untrusted sources. You are able to install APK without the root rights.

Hello Sev7en,
thanks for the help. I manged to install App-installer.
Yet I have an other question.
Normally in Settings, options fo developers, one can enable Usb-debugging. But in the Moverio there is no such option.
Do I miss something?

Has anyone tethered to an iPhone successfully?
I just unpacked my BT200 this weekend and ran through the forums and managed to get the google play store and root access.
I am trying to tether my BT200 to my iPhone 5's personal hotspot. When I try via bluetooth, it reboots. If I try it again, it will show connected and the "use this device for internet" will be checked -- but I don't seem to have any connectivity. I don't see any network stats and none of my apps see a network connection.
If I try to use the iPhone's wifi, it will detect it at excellent strength, but once I try to connect, it reports the strength and poor and cycled connecting, disconnecting, and connecting over and over again until I forget the network or use another wifi.
Otherwise, I am able to connect to wifi. And I have tested the iPhone hotspot (bluetooth and wifi) with another android device. So I know that it works.
Has anyone else been able to tether to an iPhone?

Google Playstore
To get google play, I followed mostly the directions from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52652576&postcount=3
First: install the amazon app store and get winzip
http://www.amazon.com/mobile-apps/b?node=2350149011
You can install the amazon app store and get apps from there immediately without anything special. From there I installed winzip, which you will need later.
Second: root your phone.
Google for Baidu 2001 apk
(http://www13.zippyshare.com/v/62451397/file.html)
This program will unlock your ability to use root access on the phone. It is in Chinese, so just press the obvious blue button. If it turns green, you are good.
Third: Install and run SuperSU
Goodle supersu apk
(http://www.appsapk.com/supersu/)
This program allows programs to request root access (which you unlocked with Baidu) and to use it. So you will need this to access your system files.
Fourth: Install a Root File Browser
Google jrummy browserfree.apk
(http://storage.evozi.com/apk/dl/14/05/12/com.jrummy.root.browserfree.apk?vc=223)
This is a file browser that knows how to use SuperSU, so when you try to copy files into your /system/apps folder, it can get root permissions and do this.
Fifth: Download the google play package and unzip
Download: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
This is the proprietary google android stuff that Moverio didn't include. (see more details at http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Google_Apps)
Use the winzip to unzip this file into your downloads folder.
Now use the JRummy Browser free to copy the following files from:
your_download/system/app/GoogleLoginService.apk
your_download/system/app/GoogleServicesFramework.apk
your_download/system/app/Phonesky.apk
to /system/app/
Sixth: reboot
When you go to the shop link, you should now see the google play store.
Thanks Lacodemonkey,
I will try it.

Is there another possiblity to activate the USB Debugging option?
PS: I already contacted Epson but i didn't receive any answer yet.

Zeblaze Rover

looks nice, but might be just another u8 clone
if it needs audio connection i don't want it
havent yet watched the video myself, will check tonight
edit: just watched the video, seems like indeed yet another u8 clone
also see a headset icon, so probably can only connect when phone audio and/or media audio is enabled
it is however imho the best looking one of all u8 clones, very thin and with a nice leather strap
do i recommend it? not until i see some interface videos

with u8 clone i mean the functionality, not the looks. i like the looks of the watch
so do you have to have phone audio and/or media audio enabled on the phone to keep a connection?
what kind of notification support has it?
generic through accessibility access?
or specific support per social media

I just found the couponcode and wanted to share. If it's not allowed with post count below 20, sorry for that.
I don't think you will find many user reviews yet, delivery started on May 12th, I think.
This is the only review I found: gadget.ro/zeblaze-rover-review-copie-apple-watch
But, it's in Romanian language and sample sponsored by GearBest.
For 40USD it's worth trying, I think. Of course, it's no Android Wear or Apple watch. I expect something like the No1 G2 without heart rate and cam but slightly nicer.
of course posting coupon codes is allowed, but commercial use of the forum by companies is probably prohibited
i don't expect a lot from this watch, do hope @punkthemonk can answer my questions

1. Yes, completely OFF
2. Yes, even in bright sunlight
3. Yes, only just found out this morning, will post more photos this weekend
4. Yes, of course, how else would you be able to get notifications?
5. It only notifies as far as I can see for missed calls and SMS. you can also read the sms on the watch
6. You have many settings starting from 15 sec up to 50 sec
7. Yes, that's exactly how I have it setup
Hope this helps.
excellent, thanks! :good:
the reason i asked nr 4 is that my Sony SW2, which doesn't have a speaker or microphone, can show notifications
that's all i want from a smartwatch really, notifications and good looking watchfaces
a microphone would be nice, to have functionality like they just added to Android Wear, where you can use the watch's microphone in combination with Shazam to recognize music
but using it as a wireless headset, no thanks, it's not a headset and the call audio sucks on most of those watches
i simply don't want phone or media audio on that tiny speaker
regarding notifications, you can probably use RWatch or similar programs to show notifications besides sms/call, but those apps pale in comparison with the functionality my SW2 has
like twitter/facebook, where i can filter who's messages i will get a notification from on my watch

But you wouldn't get any useful info, they would just spout the nonsense misinformation that they have copied from the manufacturers.
And the classic line "yes it does that". Emailing them is useless too.
watch looks very nice and for its price I dont hestitate.
Where can I buy it for cheapest (with coupon)??
I just got mine today (a few hours ago)... I can't compare with anything because I never had a smartwatch before.
The instructions are (as expected) pretty much crap... it took me a couple of tries to pair it with my phone (OnePlus One) BT4 but now it seems pretty stable (haven't lost connection yet)
I haven't figured out how to change the watch face, so any clue would be appreciated
and the most important thing for me is the notifications... which too I can't figure out how to make it work... still fiddling with the settings (there aren't that many)
one other thing that doesn't work for me is the email synchronization... it could be because my inbox is a mess and this thing cannot sync more than 1000 emails... I would be a little surprised that I have more than this, but I know it's big. Anyway, I don't care too much about emails for now... all I want is my notifications
everything else I tried seems to be working fine
the watch is pretty responsive (again I can't compare with anything else but I expected it to be more sluggish)
that;s it for now
thx
Claude
Oh: I got dinged $22extra by the customs

the QR code sends you to this page, you can download software there
http://115.29.176.128/android/softwarelist.html
looks like the default bluetooth notifier software
you can probably use RWatch as well

E-ink GPS topographic’s map

Have you ever dreamed about be able to carry with you a device that will not leave you in the middle of nowhere by running out of battery, depriving you of usefull data at the worst moment, when you needed it ?!
Few years ago i was very convinced of the powerful ability of the E-ink screen’s technologies to save the précious energy of lithium’s batterys. But i was disapointed how theses screens where used for.. Most of the time, they were only used for e-book reader.. and that’s all.
That’s why i’m here today, to share with you my work and research about the modding and hacking of the Nook Simple Touch of Barnes & Nobles.
Actually it's more like a mash up of all the existing work made by the community of XDA and paraglider.

Some help would be cool to improve the GPS interaction with the system, i found this project but don't know how to do that : https://github.com/kconger/android-serial-gps-driver
Reserved.
Fascinating! This is not something I would ever do but I read the whole thing with interest. A great guide. Thanks for sharing yet another surprising adaptation of my favorite device

Thank's you
One of my last "issue" is to improve the GPS software solution (actually UsbGps4Droid) by a native serial driver like this :
* https://github.com/kostya740/gps-glonass-android-driver
* https://github.com/kconger/android-serial-gps-driver
Help would be appreciate.
@nmyshkin i'm really impress by your work on the NST !
I just follow the process to setup the modded settings.apk and the NTGAppsAttack.
I'm looking to "enable GPS" function in Android. i'm a little bit stuck here.
In Settings.apk > Security > Location is well activated.
But apps with GPS func still claim gps is not enable in settings.
Also Gmaps is not starting, is just showing the root acces allowed pop-in but i think it's another problem.
I'm pretty sure my installation of https://github.com/dipcore/gps-glonass-android-driver is ok so .. i'm a little bit lost.

Unfortunately I need to get back to that updating GApps post. It seems at this time that just about everything has died but I did think network location was still working the last time I checked. I looked at my NST running 1.2.1 and GMaps there shows a location "circle" near my house and gives an accuracy rating, so I think it is still functioning.
What you describe about the root access popup sounds like the toggle app I wrote for turning GMaps on and off since it runs in the background a lot otherwise. But you still need the actual Maps app installed for that app to work. Did you by any chance forget to install the actual Maps app?
The Settings app pushes a "1" value into settings.db for network location via gps & wifi, whether they exist or not if it sees the Network Location app. Other apps should see this, but it's hard to know what is happening inside since much of the Android 2.1 OS in the NST has been removed by B&N and the GApps installation is now so shaky. I wish I had better information for you but your detailed knowledge exceeds mine, I'm sure. I'm waiting for my 1.2.2 NST to charge up so I can check Network Location there and see if it is still working.
In the meantime, if you could give me an example of an apk that attempts to use network location and will still run on the NST, I can give it a try to see what happens on my devices.

I would like this was the truth but i'm really quite a noob about deep android system. also i'm very news in the NST world.
Btw, when i try to install "Maps.apk" from the NewGApps.zip :
Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>adb install Maps.apk
Maps.apk: 1 file pushed. 0.8 MB/s (7025142 bytes in 8.889s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/Maps.apk
Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_UNEXPECTED_EXCEPTION]
rm failed for -f, Read-only file system
The Gmaps who not run and just show the pop-in is the "Google_Maps_1.apk"
I have attached the apps i use who require location below.

I can confirm that Network Location is still working on my 1.2.2 NST. However, Network Location is not the same thing as a GPS radio, and I think that is what the two apps you attached in your previous post are looking for (one says so explicitly). So without the fallback ability to get location data from an NLP app, they will not be able to run. That's the beauty of GMaps. It can use WiFi NLP if that's all that is available. There are no stand-alone NLP apps for Android 2.1, as far as I know. The earliest one I am aware of is for Android 4.x, and that's by Mozilla. There might be others.
As for Maps refusing to install, I am puzzled. I downloaded the zip to see if perhaps the file inside was corrupted, but I had no problems with it. It is supposed to be a system app. Perhaps if you just place it into /system/app, set the permissions as rw-r-r and reboot, it will then work.
Edit: yes, on looking at your adb install I see it rejected the procedure because the system was read-only. You would have to mount the system as r/w before installing. It might be easier just to use a root-enabled file manager and "install" as I described above.

Thank's you very much for your time, I'm actually restoring to a previous state i think i have miss something.
I'm disapointed about the Location service who doesn't include GPS radio.
The thing i doesn't underdstand is why i'm not able to ask to te system to exploit the GPS serial driver i setup.
I came from Gnu/Linux, so for me there is the hardware, kernel, driver, the software who exploit the device throught the driver.
I guess the Android provider wrap the location and drivers interaction to the apps.
I should make more research about it..

For what it is worth, there is no entry in settings.db for GPS radio on the NST. Whether there is one in other devices, I have not checked yet. If it's just a matter of telling settings.db that the radio hardware which you added is "on" so that apps which inquire will find out, it should be easy enough to add an entry to the database. Then you would need a way to push a "1" or a "0" as is needed.
I'm guessing that to get your implementation of the GPS to work on the device you bypassed this artifact. There is probably also a page in the original NST Settings which has a place for turning on the "cell radio". In fact I know there is, but I don't remember how to get there any longer. I don't know whether that's sufficient or whether there is another entry that is specific to GPS. Either way, there might be more info the system wants before it can respond to queries from apps and tell them there is actually a real piece of hardware which is on, since the original system lacked that.
I was trying to get a GPS app to work on my Glow3.
I got the kernel and ntxconfig modified to use an unused UART.
I didn't use a mock location provider or an actual LocationProvider, I just did the NMEA in the app.
It worked fine, but the stupid pint-sized GPS receiver used one of those stupid toggling ground contacts for power on/off.
You could never get the thing to reliably turn on, so I got bored and the project subsided.

I believe i have already read your post, it is that ? : https://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-touch/general/gps-nook-t4021145
the toggling is GPIO pin controlled with low / high state ?
Personnaly i use this little circuit about GPIO pin :
Have GPS provider will allowing the use of already well developped map software with all the feature.
That's my only wish actually...
If i have well underdanded to permit this a backport from another device, making a new rom with the serial GPS driver included and the whole signed correctly. i'm right ?!

Yes, that's the one.
Actually, my GPS came with a board with regulator and pushbutton from SparkFun and it was still balky.
It's been discontinued since then.
I've never done the deep dive into LocationProvider to see how to make it work for real.
It seems that everybody just hacks into mock location providers, which is ugly.

not really cool, i guess you can find a low cost chinese gps (BN-180) for few dollars, it will work well too.
I'm totally agree with that, mock location is pretty ugly.
To be honest i have not your experience and knowledge on the Nook, but also on android itself i guess..
So i take this occasion to ask you if you can spend a bit of time to see how it look.
This might not be very helpful but since onboard chip inside NST does not support GPS (or to my sadness neither FM radio which would be cool and I presume less power hungry when used with Renate USB sound mod then using online WiFi radio) let's turn the table and use what is already there to our advantage. Aside GPS there is something called WiFi geolocation. Why am I mentioning this? Well if that can be enabled to be used on maps of your choice and work from NST that would be awesome and sufficient for majority of users. True it will not be as helpful on mountain hiking trip there you could use it only as a ordinary map augmented with old trusty brain Mk.1 processor but its better then nothing at all. Someone wanted and managed to create screensaver for this device as transparent screen so that it shows the page where are you stopped reading. That would be good thing to be added in implementing any map solution for NST. Let's be reasonable refresh time on device is to long for it to be used as car navigation device. I have yet to try Fastmode but I would not put my money on that will change something. Even on phones GPS can be sluggish (seen that) and I believe that processing power or the way the data are feed to processor is slowing thing to a crawl. For crawling on the ground that is good enough though. If you use WiFi geolocation and that works fine then you can try to sort issues with GPS. One thing at the time is best approach in my humble opinion. There are several WiFi geolocation services and few of them are open. Still we must have in mind that using WiFi geolocation have raised some privacy issues to the point that one of the largest proponents of its use Mozilla foundation is on a path of abandoning it. Therefore who knows for how long WiFi geolocation will be available. Just my two bits thoughts on this topic.
