Hey everyone
Just wanted to post a reference link to my Mizuu Movies application thread, which is found under the Android Apps / Games section: Mizuu Movies - XDA thread
The application has been developed for Honeycomb on the Acer Iconia A500, and should support all Honeycomb tablets. There's a free and a paid version of the application - would really appreciate it if you'd try it out!
FREE VERSION • PAID VERSION
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for a great-looking app! It looks really promising, I'd love to use it, but unfortunately had some issues: I tried the free app, and it wouldn't find anything on the external SD. I saw that it should be supported now...is this just a matter of the free app not finding them? (I'm totally OK with buying it and probably will, just asking)
Anohter, bigger issue, is that is there a reason for only supporting a few, the official, file formats? Most of us (I'd guess) use players like Moboplayer and play mkvs and avis just fine, so I think many people have movies in other file formats on their devices. So it'd be great if you'd include those in scanning. Also, how does it recognize the movies? I tried with one home-made DVD rip of a kids' movie and it wasn't recognized...is there a way files should be named in order to be detected properly?
Your interface looks very fresh and the whole app sounds great, so I'd really like to use it, so it'd be great if you can consider this feedback for possible updates - thanks a lot!

Hey, thanks for your interest and great questions!
The free app is limited to 8 movies, and the internal memory is prioritized, so if you've got 8 movies on there, you won't be shown any files from the memory card - I can however assure you that it's working beautifully with the SD card on my A500
The next version adds support for .avi, .flv, .mkv, .ts and .webm - I could probably add a setting to enable other formats - could you kindly specify the ones you'd need?
The movies are recognized by their filename, i.e. "Avatar.mp4" will be recognized as Avatar. If your movies aren't properly recognized, please use the option to manually re-identify files in the individual movie details view. The button is located in the top right corner and looks like a search button. You can see the button in this picture: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=664450&d=1311528430
Hope that cleared things up
New version - v. 1.3.0
Please update and try it out.
Version 1.3.0 (July 26)
Lots of bug fixes
Improved UI
Added support for lots of file formats
Two new themes
Support for SD card in Asus Eee Pad dock
Option to use filename as movie title if no match is found
Hey!
Gave it a try, but it said I have no movies installed.
V1.3.1
MJ-12
I have a question?
Does this app just give you a description and trailer or can it also run the movie?
A button would be nice that could play the selected movie using whatever movie app we have installed.
I apologise if it has that option but I couldn't test it. Same problem as MJ-12.

Hey you two!
It's fully capable of doing just what you said, bpivk.
Have you guys tried v. 1.3.3? Just uploaded it. Please remember to check the check box at the initial search if you want it to include files that are not officially supported by the OS (.mkv, .avi, etc.)
Cheers!
Thanks man! Awesome app!
Thanks for the reply! I gotta say I love being able to have this type of an exhchanhge with a developer like yourself, very nice to be able to offer feedback and see results implemented!
The only format that came to mind right away is in probably mpg, but I don't really use it. Somebody might, I suppose. How about scanning the /mnt/external_sd? I use that for storage as well, so it'd be great to have scanned.
I love the way the app is shaping up, so I'll go and buy the paid version now for support - thanks for the app, I'll keep posting about requests if something comes to mind...haven't tried tv shows yet, are those scanned and recognized? If not, that'd be great too. Thanks!

You're welcome!
I'm assuming you're using an Iconia, since this is the Iconia section - is it really called "/mnt/external_sd" on your Iconia? It's called "mnt/external1" on mine, although I'm running custom ROM. That might be why.
Could you kindly post the directories for the external SD card (please verify) and the USB storage directory? I'll make sure to add them ASAP!
The app is capable of identifying TV shows, but it'll show an entry for each episode rather than a single entry for the TV show itself. I'll soon begin work on Mizuu TV Shows, which will cover the TV show aspect of things

Sure! I'm running the official 3.1 ROM, and the directories are:
Internal SD: /mnt/sdcard
(this shows up as /sdcard too, must be a link, looking at this from File Manager HD)
External SD: /mnt/external_sd
and then two usb folders, not sure how these are used (haven't plugged in USB storage ever): /mnt/usb_storage and /mnt/usbdrive. The other things in /mnt are /mnt/asec, /mnt/obb and /mnt/secure, I have no idea what these are.
Great to hear about the TV show app! Will you combine it under the same interface then, or will it be separate? I'd vote for the same interface, if possible, would make browsing all videos easier.
By the way, in your other thread you were looking for translators willing to help. That's what I do for a living anyway, so if you need help translating this to Finnish at some point, just send me a message and I'll be glad to help

Oh great - look out for the next update, I have added support for "/mnt/external_sd" (it's currently only supporting "/mnt/external1" for Iconia).
I'll probably create a separate application for it (sorry!), mainly because it's easier to promote and easier for people to find. Also, there'll be quite substantial database differences between movies and TV shows, so it's a lot easier to do it like this. Hope you'll understand
Thanks a lot for the offer! I'll definitely keep you in mind when the time's right!

View Type
Only thing I would like to see added. As with all movie players, managers, etc..
All of them I have the same issue with. I watch international movies and the file names can get long.
This being said, being able to view a LIST of my movies, is what I would like. The covers are great and all, but the option for a list would make my day and would earn you a new sale.
Great app! But I rarely have more than 8 movies on my tablet at any given time so the paid version wouldn't really benefit me. If you can add /mnt/sda1 and allow access to my external hard drive, you'd absolutely have a sale

Fast replies! That's a good dev for ya
Honestly, I'm not totally sure. I'm using Tabloonay currently, and have tried a few other ROMs before. I noticed that different ROMs use different paths to arrive at the external drive so I'd speculate it is a ROM thing? But I'm a noob, so this may be nothing more than an extremely uneducated guess One observation though; the sda1 only shows up under mnt/ when the drive is physically mounted to the iconia. Not sure if this is helpful info or common knowledge

Data Connection 2G/3G/H
This phone when used on Bell's own network, it can only do 3G & H
(this is not a hardware issue but rather a network issue, there is a topic about this discussion, link coming soon)
However once unlocked the have full 1G(Cuba!)/2G(EDGE)/3G/H on Fido, Rogers, AT&T and any other network that supports the 850/1900/2100 band for data communication
Pre-installed Apps:
TeleNav GPS Navigator if you are not online via 3G or WiFi, you'll get an error message "This application is not available" or something along those lines
The application is not free, it wants you to register for $10 a month, it's safe to uninstall after rooting
BellTV Remote PVR only works if you have a Bell digital cable box for TV, it's safe to uninstall after rooting
Tunes & Apps it's just an Advertisement URL link, it tries to go
Code:
ads.bwanet.ca/getnew.jsp?request=PDAdownload
the link is dead anyways, it's safe to delete after rooting
TV & Radio supposedly to Watch Live TV, Listen to Music and Talk Radio... but it doesn't work.
It might be only available to people on Bell network, the error messages says
> Error
There was a problem
connecting to the service.
Check your data connection.

my recommendation uninstall it if you are rooted, there are better Apps in Android Market that offers the same feature & service
Kobo it comes included with the latest official ROMs. You might want to keep it if you are an e-book reader. It channels you to their online catalog of e-books. Depending from each point of view, it can be categorized as another Advertisement or a Tool.
Personally I'll uninstall it (you'll need to be rooted), the only thing I'll ever read in my phone are PDF files, for everything else i got RSS feeds, tons of e-mails/SMS to go through an lots of websites to keep me busy and relaxed.
AllShare a simple to use App to share your files in the phone to other devices wirelessly.
Worth keeping? Yes
Layar is more of a fun tool than a real utility, it lets you catalog and get info of nearby places where you are standing, it requires the GPS to be ON-line. This App is based on the Anime feature in Eden of the East.
Worth keeping? Yes
Navigation Google Maps Navigation, a simple to use Navigation tool that works out of the box.
Worth keeping? Yes
ThinkFree Office requires activation, but it's completely Free as the name implies (unlike other Apps which claims to be "free" but is crippled one war or another, or with Ads.) you can open and create Microsoft Word Doc, Spread Sheet, and PowerPoint slides, all from the tips of your fingers.
It takes a bit to get used to navigating around the software to do what would normally have been a simple task in the PC.
Worth keeping? Yes
Samsung Apps List of available freebies:
- eBooks by Kobo (the other piece of the forced on ROM Kobo eBook Market)
- Social Hub Push Email and IM (as the name implies it does everything, it's quite good infact, it adds additional supported services to the original version, now it can do Google Accounts, Hotmail/Live Accounts, Yahoo Accounts, Facebook Accounts, Twiter Accounts, MySpace Accounts)
- RoadSMS (SMS that lets you see behind the phone, the road or whatever your phone camera seems to be pointing... great App to check out on girls on the restaurant table in front of you )
- Robert Parker (wine guide)
- Radio Companion (i find it rather interesting, it lets you sing karaoke to the radio station you are listening to... well sort of, it will scroll and display the lyrics as the song plays on the radio station)
- Asphalt5 (racing game, full version, completely free, notice this is not the Asphalt5 HD)
- Vlingo Voice (voice control your phone, dictation, launch apps, etc)
- Krazy Kart Racing (from Konami) cartoonish kart racing game, fun!
- Facebook for Samsung the name says it all it's a new facebook apps from Samsung
- Movies App for movie show times, trailers and reviews

You may want to add something in here about Bell's lack of a 2g GSM network and checking if your phone has the download mode disabled or not. These seem to be 2 common questions on these forums about the Canadian I9000M.
Thanks for the reminder, yes this FAQ is a work in progress
The TV & Radio app is worth keeping if you are a Bell subscriber and into the idea. Basically it is a premium app, you have to pay for subscriptions to channels. But you can access content like live NHL games, HBO, etc.
It also lets you subscribe to and listen to Sirius sat. radio.
But if you don't have a 6GB plan it's a total non-starter.

Edit: alright, I think I found'em. What's tn55-android-blur.apk? The TeleNav application by any chance?

- Krazy Kart Racing (from Konami) cartoonish kart racing game, fun!
Any chance of an apk dump of "Social Hub Push Email and IM" and "Radio Companion" apps? (assuming that they are legal to share, these aren't in my JP3 app store).
I would also ask for Krazy Kart Racing, but pretty sure thats a paid app and I don't wanna break any rules lol..
Otherwise, if no-one can share anything... what firmwares are these apps available for? just the non-beta ones? or just for the bell i9000?
Yes, bell i9000m JH2 is the latest official ROM from Kies
it is compatible with I9000 international, but you will need Odin to flash it
or do the KIES cheat as mentioned in another topic, to make the changes in the registry, so it will download Bell JH2 for you.
But as far as i know, if they are included as freebies inside Samsung Apps, it should also be available to the international i9000 ROMs with Samsung Apps
Thanks for the reply AllGamer
Sorry that I'm a little confused, are the radio and social hub push email included in the firmware or downloadable from the samsung apps store?
Do you know how samsung app store determines phone version? Can we fake this through build.prop or something to download the latest apps, or does it have a more complicated check?
Only cause it seems that the number of apps available to JP3 is limited (and I wanna stick to this firmware for now, it's awesome )
There seem to be sprinklings of discussion about the use of a DSLR with the Xoom so I thought it would be good to identify what is known and unknown at this point:
Known
With the proper cable, on 3.1, you can transfer images from your DSLR to your Xoom.
Xoom does not natively read .RAW images.
RawDroid is a proof of concept RAW viewer.
This app is a camera control app, but requires a PC. Developer is responsive and has a list of enhancements planned.
This app can be used with Eye-Fi cards.
This app reads Canon (.CR2) .RAW images on 2.2 and up. Works on the Xoom. Features: * Preview the embedded jpeg images in folderview
* Show fullscreen preview
* Show extracted EXIF data
* Save as jpeg
* Share the image, e.g. mail or bluetooth
* Delete images
Unknown
Camera Control/Tethering: It is unknown whether you will be able to control the DSLR via USB, given an app is developed
It is unknown whether you will be able to use the Xoom as live view via the usb cable, given an app is developed. Some say this is impossible, but I think it could be possible. I personally think a developer could make some money off of this type of an app. I think many photog ipad owners would flock to Xoom for this.
Please add and comment on the above list. It would be nice to share what we know/don't know.
Whether something is possible or probable are two very different things. Simply supporting host mode does not allow for Live View or Camera Control. These things require very specific drivers to be written which would need to come from the camera manufacturer. Maybe, at some point in the future, Canon might port their SDK to Android but right now it is not available, therefor it is not possible.
i would love to see more development in this field too. and certainly would pay for these type of apps.
raw is defiantly a biggie for me since i shoot mostly in raw. but it's not a big deal since canon can output images in RAW and JPEG at the same time. but if the tablet can read raw, then it'll save me space on my memory card.

I show almost entirely in .RAW (except for timelapses) so .RAW is big for me, too. the I just threw a couple of .CR2 images on my Xoom (from my PC) and it does preview and display the .Raw images quickly and nicely. It is designed only to work with Canon, however. It is an alpha release right now.
I do have the proper cable (typing this on a usb keyboard right now) but my problem is i dont know how to transfer files to/from my XTi! Nothing pops up or anything and the usbdisk folder is empty
CR2 App
Just tried his app out - it ROCKS!
I transferred CR2 files from my PC to the Xoom (camera connection cable arrives tomorrow.) You can view EXIF data and save to JPG. This is HUUUUUUUGE for a lot of us Canon DSLR users.
I don't have the Xoom rooted do I took a couple of shots:

Agreed....I would be in heaven if someone got a live view app running. People always poo-poo it when I mention it and tell me Xoom does not handle video in, but I think they are assuming I mean over HDMI versus USB. I would think it is quite conceivable to create an app based off of the Canon EOS utility, I know there is a linux version of that. I don't know Nikons, but they must have a similar utility. You have to wonder at what point wifi or bluetooth becomes standard on higher end dslrs?
Canon cameras have been ported and sporting awesome ROMs for a long time now.

I can see it being a challenge with landscape photography unless you are willing to lug a laptop along with your setup. There are two application that need to be installed for this to work. One on the PC/Mac and another on the android device. The PC/Mac also needs a wired connection to the camera. Once everything is connected, you can control the camera from the android device over a wireless network.

OK, thanks for the clarification. I might have to hold out for a Xoom/Camera only tether. I really want to encourage android dslr development, though.

Hi,
We are allready thinking about the direct connection possibilty, but we don´t know if and when we get this feature for our app.The bigger problem is the connectivity. Canon distributes developer with a excellent development kit - but only for the USB-> PC solution.
For a direct connection between the camera and an android device, we have to figure out each interaction by ourself - this is a very time consuming work and we are still a sparetime project, so the development is - first of all - a time question.

Thanks for that, I understand the time factor. Hopefully, Canon will consider releasing other SDK's in the future that have this capability. It's good for both Android and Canon.
It is certainly possible to remote control your Canon with Android USB host device... (without a PC)
I'm doing it right now, on an SGS2 no less.
It's a work in progress, though. Too bad I don't have a Xoom/3.2 to play with
Think it will ever be possible to get a TV tuner working in this bad boy?

DVB-T, TV on iconia
Yes, i wanna know too !!! ………………therefore i opened a thread here 2 weeks ago and 2 days ago someone did the same. But I won’t moan about searching and tell all what I know about.
There are a plethora of DVB-t dongles and also a lot of linux-drivers for them. Actually, Archos 101 (Froyo) enthousiasts implemented it on their Tablet. They also made an APK, LiveTV, that scans the dongle for canals. So, it is very close, “just” find the way to port the drivers to our tablet. I did some coding in the past but Android is a bridge to far for me. So I hope someone will pick it up.

Have you tried contacting those devs and asking them?
I have a slingbox pro, but I'm not using it right now because I don't have cable tv. I am really hoping for an xbmc/boxee client on android some day!

that would probably also include providing them a hoineycomb device..
also, i know on they archos he had a little help from archos and uses the dsp in the system for video acceleration.
Back in the day, my MDA was able to pick up all TV channels based on a TV tuner feed through a wonderful program: MyTinyTV.
Now, all that's left is horrible ORB. It never works and has a terrible interface. Anyone have any other options for feeding my TV tuner out into the web and then picking it up through an Android App?
And please, no one start talking about those streaming TV apps that have 40 random channels that no one's ever heard of (SPB TV for example).

tried slingbox? i use it to stream from my directv dvr 2500 miles away.
still not a fan of the android interface, as the pc interface was much better, but it gets the job done.... except you need a slingbox ($100-$200) and the app ($30)

Yeah, I'm jealous that you have it and it works great, but I'm not paying for it. I don't have anything but regular cable because there are only a few channels I watch, but I'd like to be able to get them wherever there's a cell signal.
Watch live tv in the browser
Watch live tv in the browser just go to www.mobiletv.net. All you need is flash. And its completely free.
Been looking for something like this as well. Haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I might give it a shot when I have some time.
If streaming from your home PC is an option you'd consider, you might want to check out SplashTop. Currently $5 in the Market. Has fairly great Market reviews incl from A500 owners. I'm not affiliated of course, just doing my homework on it first before I try.
Full remote desktop app and from the looks of it, it looks like if you have cable connected to your PC, say via Windows Media Center you can remote into that and stream the output to your Tab. Am hearing fairly good things about the video quality. Or of course you could also do Hulu, Netflix, etc.
Found an article about live TV on it (though this is by iPad user)
thedigitallifestyle(DOT)com/w/index.php/2011/06/03/using-splashtop-to-watch-live-or-recorded-tv-on-the-ipad/
If you decide to give it a shot, let me know what you think! Good luck...
EDIT: Clarification. The version of the app recommended by the dev for Honeycomb tablets is SplashTop HD.

Hmm interesting suggestion. I have always thought Splashtop was another VNC program until now. I tried it out and it works great for what you mentioned. Unfortunately, something with my desktop video driver causes it to freeze up after a few minutes. Same thing happens with VNC programs lately.

My "Cinery T USB XE" works on my Acer Iconia A210.
My mate has compiled a kernel with dvb integration and we added the firmware.

I have done a channel scan with droidTV.apk. Found channels, but have a very high error rate, so don't see anything.
So the source of the errors is the droidTV app we think.
Is any one working on an app for DVB ? Maybe someone can tell how to crosscompile an binary? Or maybe can tell me how to configure toolchain paths for compiling successfull????
Not exactly what your after but with a combination of dvblink connect server http://www.dvblogic.com/netpack.php and xbmc dvblink addon script http://dvblogic.com/wiki/index.php/DVBLink_Connect!_Server_clients and xbmc android http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29737360 you can watch live tv. Hd channels still need hw decoding working to play smooth(not currently working) but sd channels play fine
i'm in the same point as schlex2010, i succed to compile Hauppauge WinTV mini stick modules for Kernel 2.6.39.4+
droidTV succed to find all channels but it is imposible to get them work. just one of the channels streams but no sound

finally I did it.
All channels streaming on ICS 4.0.3 Kernel 2.6.39.4+ with 2 Hauppauge USB WinTV, MiniStick and NOVA-T-Stick.
It was done compiling modules which came with official ICS downloadable Kernel from Acer web page.
Loading modules and dvb adapter files with scripting and streaming locally with mumudvb for android.
Streaming is playable with players like MX or VPlayer.
yeeeah! I can see Live DVB-T every where.
Didn't see it mentioned, but USTV in android app store is pretty good too. Has the unheard of channels but also has a "hot" channel list that weeds them out and just shows HBO, SyFy, etc.
That said, between mobiletv.net and USTV, I'll never need cable! Mobile - which works really well on my slate PC (just tried it) has a ESPNU feed which will get me through volleyball season, as does Watch ESPN app. When one factors in all the other channels, movie channels and my netflix account, I'm set! WOO HOO!
One quick question...does anybody know what time zone mobiletv.net follows - so I'll know which movie schedule to follow (I am on EST in US)? Thanks!
Just wanted to let everyone know that Google music is no longer requiring an invite. It is open to everyone. Just download it from the market or visit it online at http://music.google.com
Already using it
I think every Android user should take advantage of this great feature.
oh, and the android market launched their music download service. Just from the website for now. So for those who want to buy their music, but not through apple *shudders* or amazon mp3, now have that option. I personally only listen to Indie artists, so this doesn't effect me, but great for antiapple-ists (ME!!!!), and people who think amazon is too much of a hassle (I don't care, just another source to me).

I got an email from Google and it says in the next few days the Market will be updated to allow music purchases from our phones. Music is really cool but they need to work out a way to get your music out of the cloud. If I buy it I want to be able to easily transfer it to whatever device I choose. Amazon still has the advantage as far as purchasing music.

You technicly can get it off the cloud, you have two option, play the songs on the computer, and check all the temp files from the browser, and find the mp3 (too much work) or stream it to your phone and pull it out of the cache. That's in /sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.music if you want it.
Put it does need to be easier. That much I agree with.

Yeah, good tips but both a royal pain in the ass. Both options mess up the files names. In my case I uploaded 19,000 songs to Music and then my HDD crashed. I'd really like an easy option to get my music back out of Google's damn cloud! (I got most of them on my old iPod but I'm having issues transferring them onto Mint)
So, I don't understand. You're not able to actually "own" the music you buy like you do on iTunes?

Not quite, you do still own the music, (as per me reading the TOS for the music beta, which may have changed) (also assuming you bought your music *gives evil eye to the wary*) but there is no easy way of getting it off. And why would they mess with the file names? Copying from one spot to a different spot shouldn't do that. Moving will though.
And you have 19000 songs in your library *shock*, that's a lot of music, I have like > 100 songs....

When it caches the music it assigns all the tracks numerical file names. Like this:

I assume it's part of some sorta of effort to prevent piracy (ie attempting to please the RIAA and whatever their ridiculous demands are). And the TOS may say you own your music but until you can easily burn it to a cd and listen to it in your car you don't own nothing.

Ahh, I see what you mean. I would actually make a copy of those files rather than rename them so that I don't have to wait for them to stream again. But agreed, it needs to be easier to get your music off.

Good guide! However for some people setting up adb is complicated and Root explorer also isn't free. My app is aimed for those people who rather pay $2 to solve this by touching a single button. Also my app re-applys the keymap at boot time so if you are frequently flashing new versions of the same custom ROM (like CM9 nightlys) you won't need to push the button (or do the adb/root-explorer stuff) again unless you do a full wipe.
But I don't blame you, I would have fixed it myself too. Not to save $2 but because I know perfectly well what needs to be done and I like the challenge of fixing stuff myself.
In fact, I did (but with the Swedish/Finnish layout) but then I realized that if I needed this tweak, others might need it aswell so I decided to make something that was easy to use and also make it available for people in other countries that face the same problems.

Great, you saved $2 and propably learned something while doing it. Others who don't want to learn about adb or buy Root Explorer may prefer buying the app.
Many things are free if you are willing to spend some time learning how to do them yourself.

Google really should add paypal support. The Visa/Mastercard requirement really sucks. I have teenage kids with Android phones even though I trust them I still do not want to connect my Visa or Mastercard to their Google accounts. With paypal on the other hand I could have transfered a limited sum of money to for them to buy apps with. A lot of paid apps are aimed for kids and teenagers but Google Checkout only supports credit cards... That sucks!

This is so great !:good::good::good::good: I've been struggling all weekend to get this keyboard on azerty, for use with my google tv cloud stick.
It works great, however, only on qwerty. I've changed it through my pc (with the software I had to download from the logitech site ) and on my laptop it works on azerty, but as soon as I try to write something on my screen (when the tv stick is connected to my tv) it still is qwerty, even though it shows azerty on the screen. I think this is big shortcoming from Logitech as no software was included in the box (not everyone is a computer geek) and they should be prescient as what their wireless keyboards will be used for. (Like android on tv or tablets a.s.o.)
As soon as I get home tonight I'll try the app to change the keyboard. I am very curious...
If it works, you've made my day :good:
