Custom Kernel S5 - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, just wanted to find out whether anyone on here has flashed ktoonsez kernel? Ive got a G900F running AllianceRom and was hoping I could get better battery life. Im not a heavy user, I use my phone for facebook, browsing the internet, whatsapp, and some light gaming (miniclip 8 ball pool ). If anyone has flashed this kernel or for that matter, any other kernels, please could you get back to me and let me know what your battery stats are like ? Thanks

Ktoonsez Kernel can improve battery life. Use the default profile and test it yourself. Pretty sure that you'll enjoy the improved performance and snappy feel.

Stock PA and matr1x kernel are both really good, with matr1x the battery life is about 5 hours screen, without screen it is just 1%/2 hrs.
I've tried franco and faux kernel too, but franco was a bit laggish and faux has terrible performance for me...slow ui, lots of framedrop in games...
There is no best kernel. All of them offer something a little different than the other. Some kernels work better with a ROM than others. My advice to to read up on them. Find out what you want out of it. Flash one and run it for a couple days. Make sure you let the battery drain past 20% then charge it without interrupting it. That's the surest way to gain maximum battery saving benefits. Just try them out until you find the one that's right for you. Happy flashing.
its actually made so that you dont have to worry about this stuff. kernel is just a cog. it twists and turns, who cares. unless you know exactly what youre missing of course. :cyclops:

[Q] Which ROM/Kernel is the best for me?

Hey guys,
I think I read somewhere that threads like this are not really wanted here? So I'd like to clarify first, I'm looking for certain aspects and not for "the best" rom or whatever. If there's more than one which would meet my criteria, feel free to just name all without any opinion to it
There are just so many roms and kernels and I'm having trouble finding information what they can and cant do...Sometimes it's just a download link and thats it!
I will be travelling with my Nexus 10 and would like to use an internet dongle via USB OTG to access mobile internet in the various countries and I would like to use OTG for storage (usb sticks i guess).
Also it should be stable/fast and I would like to somehow prolong battery life (UC/UV? Dont know anything about that yet but I guess that would be how?), just in case I won't be near a power outlet for a couple of days.
I don't really care too much about design, so minimalistic is best!
Which kernels can I use? Does the rom even matter? are there certain roms that seem to work best with the kernel I would need?
Thanks for any help!! I will get the tablet the day after tomorrow so it'd be awesome to have some information so that I can root and start trying stuff out immediately=)
If you seek stability then go for CleanRom and aosp+ kernel. As for battery life there isn't anything magic out there, just turn the WiFi off when you can.
UV doesn't help, no matter what you will be told, it's just placebo.
I've used mrRobinsons AOKP PUB ROM + Ktmanta kernel for the last 2 months. Just took it on a long trip, used a 32gb USB OTG just fine. I watched several movies and had great battery life. Performance is awesome too.
No experience with an internet dongle, sorry. I just use the hotspot function from my phone.

It bothers me when someone says that such and such is the only stable combination, it obviously isnt or no one would ever run anything else. I have never had problems when I ran AOKP, or when I used to run CM10, or running on Rasbean which is based on AOSP. Each kernel can have certain releases that have issues, just as Craig's AOSP+ kernel could at some point, but not every release has always or will always be unstable. To my knowledge only Franco's R12 has issues right now and all other kernel releases are fine. Franco's R11 is perfectly fine too.
Also I can both mathematically prove undervolting can save battery and can show you plenty of people with actual experience on it saving battery. So you should really stop going around and spouting off "facts" which are completely untrue. But you are right about there being no magic stuff, it is all science.
I get wonderful battery life daily using KTManta and a tweak of the CPU/GPU. But then, my tweak stops doing so well if I use a CPU intensive app like FL Studio. I can go about 12 hours or more and still have 30-40% of battery left, with off-and-on usage all day including some gaming. Extended gaming (I'm talking Asphalt 7, Shadowgun, not Plague Inc) will murder that, but that's what I set up my CPU/GPU to offset.
Also completely stable with RootBox ROM (or CM10, or AOKP, etc) so long as I don't try "hotplugging"

Kernel Options

Hey everyone,
I was hoping to stay on stock and just replace the kernel for maximum stability and battery. I was planning on cycling through the different options and seeing how they felt. Anyone have any recommendations? I'm not looking for features in my kernel just battery life. I'm not really having any issues with my battery now just trying to see if i can make it above 4hrs screen on time.
Thanks for any assistance, going to post reviews when i finish.
Franco Kernel has a strong philosophy in "flash and forget" and is always dependable for stability and battery life. ElementalX you can also "flash and forget" but allows for more customization.
Have you actually tried just leaving it as stock and seeing if it does what you need?
I used Elemental when I first got it. When I reflashed for an update I left it on stock and to be honest it is more than stable enough and the battery lasts longer than I need it too, so not going to bother with a custom kernel now.
I'll reconsider if I find a specific function I need that isn't available through stock, but until then its fine. I only need root for a few apps to function these days, Google have implement most of the other hacks I used to do as standard these days.
I would be interrested in good basic starting settings that I could start to setup myself. Now on Kylo kernel 4.9 version. And I would like to get better battery life when using the phone and when it's in my pocket rather than max performance.

[HELP] Looking for a good kernel N9005

hello guys! i wonder if anyone can help me find the best kernel for my N9005 (lte international version)
I am looking for an updated driver kernel but with less battery consumption.
Good kernel like arter97 but with battery saver like lean
why? because when i use arter97 i can play hd games like nba2k16 but whenever my phone is on standby, my battery drains so fast. While when I am using lean kernel, my battery lasts long but I cannot play nba2k16 and MC4.
anyone who can suggest me a good one? btw, i am using ARYAMOD Rom.
Thanks in advance! :good:

Use Idle Kernel. Its based on Lean only.
I am playing No Limits and Fifa 16 without any issues.
what version of IDLE? do you have the link?

Recommendations?

Hey guys,
I've ran this thing stock from day one. I've loved it, but the itch is coming back. I need mods. I need kernels. I need mo cowbell!
That being said, I think I'm still going to run stock for now. Anyone recommend a specific kernel? I've been looking at HolyDragon a lot. I'm looking for a bump in performance with a significant jump in battery life.
Also, anyone use that stereo speaker mod? How does that work for you guys on speaker phone calls?

You need to flash sky dragon ROM. Its made by the same dev who codes holy angel kernel and the kernel is included in the ROM. I can easily get over 8hrs of screen on time and the mods are pretty decent. I wish they included status bar and navbar colors on the mods but oh well. The ones they come with are enough to keep the phone looking fresh , especially the nifty built-in font changer. Trust me you won't regret it.

If you want great performance and battery life, check out the SkyDragon rom, it's got the HolyDragon kernel built in and I get 8-9 hours of SOT.
In my opinion I feel that Smurf Kernel ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/development/kernel-smurfkernel-2-0-49-t3868360 ) gives me the best battery life. I recommend this one to anyone with this phone.
I'm running stock rom with Omega Kernel. After calibration of a day or so battery life pushes me towards 8hrs of SOT with 42-46 hours of battery life.

Stock OB?
Edit: squared away on Omega Kernel for now. Working great on OB11.
Thanks all!
