Hi all,
I'd like to know whether you changed your screen density / dpi, and if so, which value you are using.
Got mine (stock rom) at 360 at the moment, but this also means that the lock screen is shifted left, not center aligned any more.
stock setting is 480 btw. I am running stock setting.

Thanks, Don't know how I came to 420.

Hi all,
My new phone did not survive a single day without (towel-)root. So after getting root, I was thinking about changing DPI.
default in /system/build.prop is 480. I changed it to 360 and 420, both seems fine for the GS5. As a scale referenced I used values from http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/general/info-official-galaxy-nexus-lcd-density-t1392089 - my Galaxy Nexus is running at 246 just fine.
But sadly, the stock lock screen is now shifted left. Any idea how I can replace the stock lock screen with another fingerprint-ready lock screen? A lock screen with 4x4 pattern would also do.
Thanks in advance.
PS: If I have time, I will make a thread similar to the linked above.
Is the camera workin properly on 360 and 420? thanks and the phone keypad?
I may be wrong but as far as i know you have to edit SystemUI for the lockscreen to look correct, or you can use app settings from xposed to change SystemUI back to 480 but that changes more than the lockscreen. As for camera and keypad, those need to be changed back to 480 in app settings, i wouldnt say its required but its not going to work very well on anything but stock dpi, i personally run 320.

Hi, I've just jumped from my modded 240dpi N7100 note2 to brand new N910F note4 and with the 2560x1440 screen everything seems to me so huge on the screen
I have root done and now thinking about changing the size of everything on the screen to more friendly size, anyone has some experience with it on this new battle ground?
I will try to change build.prop but would like to ask first before I do something stupid.
thanks
update!!!
after changing the dpi in build.prop to 340 finished with boot loop

not yet, just going to reflesh it now with original firmware
update:
I am now after refleshing and back to stock dpi settings with no problems
did you try using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.texdroider.texdroider_dpi
I used this app on my LGG3 which also has the same QHD screen and it worked perfectly
I've changed it to 480 which is about as small as I think is useful. No boot loop issues.
I did have to use the Xposed app 'App Settings' to reset the stock apps like Clock, Contacts, Camera back to 640.
The issue that everyone has that right now has no solution is the lock screen becomes misaligned.

I will wait a little bit longer for some 100% solution,
I've just changed now dpi in gmail and chrome using exposed app settings and it works for a short while but after several restarts just stops! now my app settings has no any impact for the apps
all is displayed in 640 dpi only, tried to re-save it again but no luck

Attached two screenshots - it looks pretty "normal" since I use Nova Prime to increase icon size and such (and you need to make Font size in display large), but you can see the status bar height in the first screenshot and the size of each notification in the second screenshot - much more compact.

Yeah it's a must for me. However be aware that it will misalign the locksceen if you use fingerprint lock. It doesn't impact functionality at all, just visual so I can live with it until hopefully a dev fixes it.
Is it posibble to change the default Samsung launcher to behave like on a tablet (allow landscape) that way? Or maybe installing a different launcher is the solution (do Nova or Google Now allow it?)? I am used to tablets and would love to use my Note 4 with tablet interface...
Hello
Use xposed framework to and install "app settings". Then use a build prop editor and change the ro lcd density from 640 to 480.
Then once you've rebooted you will see that some Samsung apps (including the phone and camera) do not scale well. To fix this - change their dpi back to 640 by using the "App settings" then reboot.
Voila.

Yeah i remembered same and tested to change it to 640 but still looking bad... So i'm thinking i need change something else (also?). Is there any other app than App Settings which i can use to change some apps dpi setting?
I personally drop my dpi by 80 on all my devices. So on the note 2 I went from 320 to 240. On the Note 3 I went from 480 to 400. On the Note 4 I went from 560 to 480 and everything worked fine with no boot loops. I used Rom Toolbox to change mine. I also used App Settings in Xposed to change some apps back for usability. Like dialer, gallery, calculator, camera, etc.

WOOT - thanks for the tip man. Changed keyguard to 640 in app settings, also clicked the apply res to widgets box (not sure if needed), and then rebooted. Simply using the option to kill app didn't reset the lockscreen.
However after reboot my lockscreen with fingerprint is back to 640 and everything else is still at 480.
Has anyone with a rooted device tried modifying the LCD density setting in build.prop? What values looked best? Thinking about rooting my phone just for this purpose.
i changed mine with textdroider_dpi app. Mine is currently set on 480
I set mine to 520 a few times but there are some issues with it. Every now and then my phone would go to a full black screen after boot up and before the lock screen and stay there. Lucky I have a full backup before and after I installed xposed. Having the backup I only had to restore system to get my phone back up and running with nothing lost. Very strange but I've now stayed with the default 560.
I've tried 440 and 480. I'm sticking with 480 for now. The only thing I've noticed so far is that the controls at the bottom of Play Music are a little weird at 480. They were worse at 440, iirc. However, it may just be activating a different layout for what it thinks is a different size screen.
Hello everyone,
considering the phone has two screen I was wondering if it was possible to change the DPI on the main screen (AMOLED) without affecting the eInk screen ?
Thank you

Yes. I am using Yotaphone 2 (YD201) with 440 dpi and it's really OK.
I think it doesn't change the eink display.
You can do changes using build.prop file in LCD_DENSITY parametr.
Regards!

Have you experienced any problems with vibration as after changing to 440 it was replaced with a strange sound (in some applications). Changing to 420 reverted the vibration back.
Also, hopefully someone will find it useful, changing the DPI (checked at 420) makes screen tapping incredibly sensitive which makes tapping a headache. Fortunately, it's reproducible only when the device is connected via USB (I used the same cable as when changing the DPI via adb)..
Another issue is that all avatars and received through viber images now look as the attached picture.. I've already sent an email to viber asking for help. So, fingers crossed.
Hi all,
So I've been playing around with dpi and I saw it was set to 279 or 320 as default (I forgot). I changed it to 400 or 411 and wow what a difference, now I can make more use of the screen when browsing etc. Try it out for yourself and let me know your sweet spot for dpi.
Settings > build number (click several times) >go back > developer option > scroll down to display width and change the dpi from 279 as default to 400 or 411 or you can go higher or lower depending on your preference.
Hope I've made some sense!
Here is the difference if you wanted to compare me loading up gsmarena.com
Never knew about this option. Thank you
And for the ones who can't find it, it's under "Drawing" category, and it's named "Smallest width".
Mine was at 423 already... I put the dpi slider to the left when I first got the phone

Sames
Just got mines this morning.
I have the dpi set to 410 for the time being and will try 423 later.
Thanks for the recommendations, the stock setting was ridiculous.
Strange how everyone is getting different settings! Glad I could help the few anyways

Their getting different settings because they've changed the scree text size.
Settings > display > font size
300 dpi here... never been happier.
No need to go to developers option
It's easy to change it
Setting > Display > Display Size
( there are 3 options )
Does anyone have an issue where the navigation buttons mess up in landscape mode? I'm at 540 (actually set DPI through ADB but this is similar).
If you set the DPI to 480 or higher then it switches to small tablet mode, this causes the nav buttons to go a bit messed up in landscape
