I held a Note at the local cellular store the other day and I thing I fell in love. I currently have a Galaxy S and I do love it (Except the crappy GPS) but my contract is up next November and I started to see what is out there and what is coming out in the near future.
As my motto is The Bigger the Better when is comes to screen size (with-in reason) I wondered if the Note would be too big. But, it's not. I really like the size and it fits in my pockets as well.
So, last night I had a dream I lost my Galaxy S and I was running all over trying to find it, going out of my mind. The next thing, I tripped and my phone jumped out of a secret pocket (it's a dream remember) and when I picked it up, it was a Galaxy Note.
My contract is up when the Note will be about a year old. Does Has anyone heard if a new version is coming around that time? I know it's a while away, but I am curious.
Thanks,
Ian
no news about the next Note, but given the fanfare this version has received, it's nearly inevitable that there will be one. just hang on
One thing I've learned: It's simply not worth it to wait for month and hope. Just go for it and be happy...
@GPS: I've got my Note yesterday, so I could'nt test it properly yet. But one thing surprised me today: I walked to a local grocery store and used the app "GPS status & toolbox". I started it and had 5 seconds (no lie!) later a fix with 17 satellites! Holy crap, that was quick!

This is great to hear. My GPS only works with a ROM from Europe. I have never had GPS with the stock BMC (Canada) ROM.
Hey, leppo, how does your GPS work with the Canadian version? Are you still on the stock ROM?
Ian
i ordered the international version from an importer nearby, and the gps is amazing... very similar experience to the above poster. if you want to know how the Bell/Telus/Rogers version performs, head over to the Note i717 (AT&T) forum. they're the same thing.
I dreaming about one too.... Still using a Omnia II with WM6.5. Got another year to wait on my contract (corporate, no early upgrade options) tempted to just buy one and then wont have to be locked into another contract for a while.

I felt the EXACT SAME WAY, because it hadn't even been a year yet since I bought my HTC HD2, but after I lost it, I went ahead and bought the note.
Trust me when I tell you this, IT WAS WORTH IT. The note is the best toy you can buy, until the note 2 comes out. And even then, the note will hold you over until the note 3 comes out. Even with it's imperfections, the note is badass.

Actually, I got it through a clever dealer who arranged for me to get a Nexus on 3yr subsidy with Bell, then swapped it for this Note. I paid $140 for it, including the price to get the Nexus
The Note has GPS and the russian GLONASS (GPS is american). More satelites = faster and more reliable.

I literally had a dream about one....lol....now that dream is becoming a reality International White version will be here Monday
I' m dreamin about one too. I'm an illustrator, and i saw some awesome artwork on this forum. My contract is until september, so i,m closer to get mine. I was wondering the same thing about a new version. I'm sure there will be a new note in 2013.
anyone know where ot get an unlocked, no Bell bloatware version in Canada?
I got mine through a company called "Mobile DNA", which is a store in Richmond BC. They can be found on facebook... Though there are undoubtedly some stores nearer to you.

If you're going to buy the Note, I suggest you do what leppo did and get the international version. If the Bell/Rogers version is the same as the AT&T version, it has the Snapdragon 1.5GHz dual core processor which I read is not as fast as the Exynos Dual-core 1.4GHz processor.
Are you going to root your Note? If so, use Titanium Back-up to remove all the bloatware you don't want. I do that, I remove all the software that comes with Android I do not use.
Ian
Mobile DNA is only BC, not Ontario, but thanks. I would like to get the international version if at all locally as I don't like the wait! Not sure about rooting it yet, I'm thinking I'll just play around with it for a while before rooting it or flashing it.

I've had my note for about a week, and am loving it. My previous phone was a Galaxy S2, and the note feels like a big upgrade. I've noticed that GPS locks on super fast - faster than any other GPS I've used including Garmin units.

This sort of thing really puts me off getting this phone I certainly don't want to buy a phone for it to be out of date in 1 month.
It's put me off buying the current G3 too. I've read every review and 'hands on' preview going and I was even willing to look past only getting the 2GB version, but knowing there might be an upgraded version in the (very) near future will make me stay away from the current G3 until there is definite clarification

Well that's the million dollar question. That article says it's expected in July, which isn't that far away really, so if nothing else surfaces about it by the end of July you could probably safely assume that it was either just a rumour OR it's a new flagship that LG has planned for later in the year/next year/whenever

Haha, they should!.. But they won't I'd be amazed if an upgraded G3 with 805 actually happened, especially this side of the Pacific but we shall see. It states released in July but in regions outside of Korea the device isn't even being released until July in the first place, so it only really makes sense if it's being limited to a specific audience. It's a massive douche move though, to release a "flagship" and then release an upgraded model in the same year... or potentially same month!

Strong rumours of the S5 Prime and M8 Prime were stated just days after the release of those devices, now several months later there is still no official sign of the devices with a vague link to Android Silver (also a rumour!) in February.
If there is going to be a new g3 I would suggest it won't be out for quite some time.

Unfortunately it doesn't help potential buyers who don't want their phones to be obsolete pretty much right after buying it.
I cannot wait to get rid of my iPhone 5S so will get the G3 anyway.
Am actually laughing at the hue n cry here. Dudes, there will always be updates to electronic gadgets and particularly with smartphones in recent years.
All the issues & complaints by early buyers would be rectified in the 2nd set of production. How many cases of such we have seen in recent past. [Nexus 5 speaker grill modification being the latest ].
So no point in fuming at these developments. How much ever you might have been attracted by a device, its always better to wait for a considerable period before procuring one. There has to be always somebody to get it first right. so be it.
Chill dudes.

Iphone 6 is likely to be September/October time.
If you keep waiting there is always going to be a "next device", something is released roughly every 3 months these days, so there comes a point where you just have to accept it and pick a device.
I try, if I can help it to get a device as close to its release date as possible in order to minimise this, but there is no point worrying that it may or may not be replaced with something better in 3-6 months time.

Yep. Point taken. 1 month is really a tight slap on early buyers choice. But based on rumours going around, that handset with 805 might get launched only in Korean market.
Nevertheless, ppl can still import it from Korea. That would impact the price factor..hmm..not sure abt it.
Even though, there is no root for the device yet.. Does anyone regret purchasing their note 4?
If we never get root I might....
I've never rooted an android so I really don't know what it's capable of. But I'm very happy with my Note 4
None here!
Love the screen and fast charging - ive got unlimited and hotspot though and I dont pay for the phone or plan, so I'm kind of a shoe-in for being perfectly happy.
I'm neutral. My note 3 was worth $360 when I sold it. I paid full retail, minus $7360, minus the incoming $200 rebate, thus I'm out $200 after taxes and what not. However, I could sell this Note 4 tomorrow for $600, thus I'm holding $400, a $40 increase. So with my math, the phone was free.
Due to that, I don't regret it yet, but I sure do miss root.
if I don't get root, I'll regret and either sell this to downgrade to an s5, or downgrade to an international. both downgrades will cost me a lot out of pocket..

Why not just get the dev version?
I'm starting to regret my note 4 purchase, in fact I'm taking it back Friday, probably gonna go with the LG g3 that's what I was gonna get but was talked out of it. I like the note 4 but why all of this Knox crap. To much security for me, screw you verizon! Smart phones are fun but there actually a tool so be carefull.
A bit, only because of not having root. Having come from a T-Mobile note 2, Really annoyed at how locked down Verizon is.
I just switched from tmobile to Verizon, that was a good move cause verizon coverage and reliability is so much better. When I switched I was planning to buy the note 3 cause it was rootable but no one had it in Stock so I bought the note 4. No regrets at all but I will most likely sell the retail version to get the developer edition if root is not achieved soon.
Only a couple things that bother me because of lack of root, not being able to use Titanium and not being able to replace the God awful current version of Google Maps with version 6. The latter was remedied with the discovery of Waze so for now I am good on that front.
Other than that, nope, I LOVE the Note 4 and am good to go for a while.
I have not even used mine much yet. I got it on launch day, but with no root it's just collecting dust right now.
I'm still on my Note 3 with Jasmine rom most of the time. I'm starting to seriously think of selling off my Note 4 and getting the dev edition.

Well if you're really into custom roms which the note 4 obviously doesn't have then you may have a problem. But i had the g3.. The screen just wasn't up to par, extremely poor brightness (try using it in a well lit room or worst outside) the lag caused by the thermal throttling to keep the display from overheating the phone, it may sound like I'm bashing the g3 I'm not but it's just note good as the note in my opinion. It does have root though so Hey that might be the better choice for you.

Aren't you afraid that you'll open it and it will end up being defective? After 14 days, you're stuck with it. I already had to return one defective phone.
By still having unlimited data makes me want root really badly, but I am sure it will be here sooner or later. One thing I do have a thing about is the home button. Call me OCD, but man... it feels like I am double clicking all the time when I am pressing it. Anyone else having the same problem?
Hi guys,
Wanting to sell my S4. What do you think it could go for?
Just the phone on its own. There's only a couple scuffs on it. Unlocked. i9505. UK Prices.
Thanks.
Swappa currently doesn't have any I9505 units for sale. However, the I9500 is available, and was $100USD (£81.95) at last count. The last few I9505 units on Swappa sold for about this price. A far cry from when I spent $349 (£286.11) on one.
About $100 is a good starting point. Though I would keep it as a backup phone or something.

This is the best advice, as the resell value isn't that great these days. After upgrading, I let my roommate use mine. When she upgraded, I got it back. It now sits on my desk as a testbed, and as a backup device.

Thanks for this. You guys know any good phones that are upgrades to the S4. With the same sort of Custom ROM support?
Around the £200GBP range. ($250)
Second hand. With a fingerprint sensor.
Maybe the LG G4. It's fairly new and has a fingerprint sensor. And since the G series is pretty popular, it also has custom ROM support.
The S5 would be another choice. But it isn't such a big upgrade.
Then there's the Nexus 5X. Custom ROM support is always great on nexus devices.
Since Black Friday is coming next month, I'd suggest you wait and see what offers there are. Then you can get a brand new device at a good price.
I recently bought a used one for 130 $ (I9500), working so far except a few cosmetic caveats.

Guess I was mistaken. But the V10 definitely has one.
I just bought a brand new in the box S4 for just under $200. It will be flashed with CM13 to replace my wife's S3.
I think the S5 is actually a pretty nice upgrade, although I hate fingerprint sensors or any kind of biometrics on phones, as there's no guarantee who's hands the biometric data might get into.

I just bought one in thailand for 3,800 THB whatever thats worth in UK prices im not sure.
£60 - £100 i would say, 60 being from a local seller who just wants rid..100 from online
Its a shame when people have one just sitting around doing nothing, still a awesome bit of kit, probs better than the mid range phones today, if i see one very cheap i think id get it just to mess with roms/kernals
I had to drive over an hour, and then the place was hard to find, but I just kept thinking it was worth it..... brand new, LTE, Qualcomm processor. And sure enough I really love it! Seems way smoother than my old Tab S with exynos.
I had a problem updating it, but now I know I can always flash the latest world firmwares from Sammobile. Managed to update my security patch level from May to November. I don't figure there will be much to flash, but I may root it today, and then just always flash and root the latest international firmwares.
The big surprise is that my Tmobile smartphone sim works in the tablet, and seems to possibly work fully! Texting, phone calls, and data! Makes me tempted to up my plan to a One unlimited data plan, but maybe that's getting too crazy. So far it seems to work like a regular phone tho!
Anyway, I'm happy with this acquisition. Any other T719 owners here with tips or Info? Thanks
The "7" is the LTE, right?
I've just ordered then wifi only one (no use for LTE/phone tech), Snappy core.
I saw a review that showed the Snappy and the Exy side by side - the Snappy was visibly faster on doing the same thing and posted a benchmark some 30% higher than the Exy core one.
Should be good... hopefully, when (if) it arrives.

I saw a post somewhere here where someone explained what each digit means, but I believe the 7 indicates that it's the smaller model, in this case 8 inches, as opposed to the 8xx, which is the 9.7 inch model.
But in any case, I think you'll like it, it actually runs smoothly. This is my first Tab S2, but I had the Tab S with Exynos, and it was super stuttery, especially considering it's an expensive device!

Nice, but I got an even better deal. I bought a T710 for $100 because the Wifi wasn't working. I figured the seller had just messed up somehow and maybe I could fix it. Turns out I don't need to. The warranty is good until Nov 2017 so Samsung is fixing it for free!!!

I think you're right - the last digits say the sub-type.
13 = wifi
17 = lte, as far as I know.
And the other guys - it makes you wonder... why didn't the seller do the warranty thing?
I mean... if something breaks down.. the very first thing I do (after a yell of frustration) is to check the warranty to see if it's still valid.
Good catches though!

I was surprised not just by the fact that it was in warranty but also by how long it had left. Nov 2017. It wasn't built until April of 2016.

Perhaps it was built in April but not sold until November. I kinda remember Sammy having 1 year warranties maybe?

Their policy is one year from the original date of sale. But not being the original buyer, I don't know what that was. I bought it on eBay from what appears to be an online dealer selling many different products.
All I know is that when I contacted tech support, they checked the serial number and gave me the info about the build date and warranty expiration. It is now in route to NJ for repair.

Ah ok, nice! Keep us posted. In my case I got a phone from a vendor at the mall, so he perhaps didn't even want to mess with sending it in, since he had a pile of phones to sell lol. But still I wonder if he would have done it if he would have known..

Delivered Monday evening, one week after it was shipped to Samsung. Looks and works like a brand new tablet.
