[Q] Galaxy S5 Locked Vodafone WiFi settings - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I bought an S5 that had been locked to Vodafone. I have had it unlocked and flashed it with the UK generic software to remove all of the Voda bloatware. This is all fine but unfortunately it still has the Vodafone WiFi settings in it meaning every time I am on the underground it tries to connect to the WiFi under Vodafone, when I have looked there is no option to forget (remove) the Vodafone settings. I flashed the phone using Odin and followed the guide and used the firmware supplied by Sammobile.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt

Hi. I have an unlocked Vodafone one I picked up today. Can I ask what CSC you flashed in Odin and died it trip Knox?

Flashing firmware doesn't routinely remove userdata settings. Do a factory data reset from the settings menu and that should resolve your issue. Be sure to backup any files that are important to you first though.
In the alternative, you might be able to reset just the wifi settings by going to the Application mamager in the settings menu and see if you can identify which is the wifi app. If you can, then clear cache and data from the tab for the wifi app.

Flashed mine with BTU tonight. It didn't stick properly the first time and using an app called Phone Info, it said the active CSC was VOD/BTU. I need to factory reset and reflash a few times before it fully applied the new CSC.
Maybe yours is VOD/BTU?

GT-i9505 No mobile network/data after flashing custom ROM

Hi guys been searching all day when I can grab some free WiFi, basically I rooted my s4 gti9505 with auto root and then installed custom recovery, and flashed PAC rom. I'm unable to make calls or receive mobile data but can use WiFi. My settings say baseband unknown .. I'll attach a picture of my settings here in this thread. I have attempted to flash a modem/radio in Odin but this didn't seem to make any difference, the problem is I'm not sure if it was the right thing to do (didn't make a back up of my phone foolishly before flashing PAC rom)
I'd appreciate any help with this guys! My network is vodaphone UK if that makes any difference to any advice given...
Thanks in advance!

will do this too, have just finished flashing MGA modem twice using your steps, will flash rom again..i wonder if i should wipe/factory wipe as i would when installing new rom...ill try it!
no luck -still no network. im running out of ideas
network - unknown
mobile network type - unknown
imei unknown
imei sv - unknown
going out now for a while but thought id ask - do you think that installing official stock rom (perhaps from your s4 unrooting guide) would help flashed via odin? from searching i can see that some folk suggest that stock will reinstall everything i need...im hoping so, i really wouldnt mind going back to stock, anythings better than this

did you put modem in "phone" in odin?
hmmm weird! i guess your imei is not corrupted, sometimes while flashing rom in cwm, efs partition is not detected, so flashing modem twice should work
you can try with an other modem, use new one (but im sure to flash it twice)
another option is trying to flash your stock firmware

yes put it in "phone" mode, thats the second or third one i have flashed now so im not sure it wont help but for sure ill try again!
are you able to determine that its not corrupted? would it state as such if it were? im going to flash a stock firmware as a last resort. lost after that haha
edit - installed cwm using sgs4 flasher and re-installed my custom rom and gapps, booted no probs and network now working - sorted!! thanks for your help i dont think i would have reflashed the rom without your advice to do so
So I'm practically in the same boat. I'm currently on P.A.C. man nightly 09/18 (Vodafone Germany branded device). I never had similar problems, but now I can't call (or be called) and I'm not able to use mobile data.
I nearly tried everything:
1) I checked the IMEI (saved it before switching over to custom roms), but an IMEI number is still there.
2) Went back to stock to see if it's a problem of P.A.C. man ROMS or not. On stock it didn't work either.
3) Went back to P.A.C. man ROM and flashed modem XXUBMF8 via Odin 3.04 (from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025)
4) Flashed the modem again after I flashed the ROM because it didn't work either.
So I'm completely lost now, I really don't know what to do next. I had mobile data for a couple of seconds every now and then, but nothing stable. And since the problem came up (yesterday evening) I can not make any calls at all.
Can someone help me?
Edit: The very strange thing is that I have full reception balks in the notification area (only in grey). But still, I guess this means that the device is somehow able to detect a signal but can not connect to it?
Edit2: I apparently have no Device-ID. May that be a problem?
So I took some screenshots to show you guys my problem a bit better. For some reason my mobile data now works (currently HSPA, but it's extremely slow). But I still can't make any calls (or get called too). =/
Edit: So to sum this up: the strangest thing about this problem is, that even when I go back to full stock I can't make calls. =/ What could be the problem? An IMEI number is present in the settings (althouh the 'IMEI SV' under 'About phone' --> 'Status' was one digit below the current one that I can see under those stats). The whole problem makes me believe that my provider can't sort my phone number to my device (I'm on Vodafone; but if that's really the case: why the hell does mobile data works sometimes?!). The other possibility: something with the modem/radio is broken. Could this be the problem? The thing is that I also tried to flash a custom modem, but the problem is still there...
I'm really concerned that my phone just became an expensive paperweight
Slightly different than my problem in that I didn't even have any bars for reception..my problem was fixed by changing the custom recovery software (originally I used philz to flash PAC), But I flashed cwm and then used this to again flash PAC, and all was good..don't ask my why but it helped me so you might want to try this...

Thank you for your answer!
You also flashed a different modem didn't you? Did this help or was it only the custom recovery? I'm confused because I used CWM before and never had problems. But then this mess all came up...
Yes I flashed several modems, that didn't help..only using a different custom recovery to flash my custom Rom again helped..hope you get sorted!

So I tried to flash PAC with TWRP 2.6.0 (it worked before), but the problem is still there.
I'm really confused. I really don't know what I can do or try to fix this mess... Is there some USSD code or something to find out if my device is missing some ID codes or if the modem is messed up or something?
Edit:
Update: For some reason I now can receive calls/SMS but only when I'm on GPRS speed. Outgoing and ingoing calls are no problem then. When my device is on HSPA or HSPA+ speed however, the old problem of not being able to call or be called is back. On one hand it's good that I'm somehow able to make calls again on the other hand it gets stranger and stranger. I know that it's a bug on PAC man ROMs that you can't change the mobile data speed options (LTE/HSPA/GPRS etc.), but I think that this could be the problem (or at least a part of it)...

Actually I can change the data in my phone between 3G and 2G (don't have LTE support here in my country)
Have you checked your APN? Think that might be a problem.
Also please post the steps you take before flashing PAC (ROM, kernel, recovery, etc)

Within Wireless & Networks --> Mobile Networks --> Network Mode? On PAC? It always crashes when I try to change something there. In the PAC bug post this seems to be a known bug, my mode is also set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE. But whenever I enter the settings to change this, only 'LTE' is chosen as option. I don't have LTE on my plan and I read somewhere else that Vodafone has major problems with it's LTE network here in Germany and that it may be better for customers without it to turn it off.
About APN: there is definitely something strange. I can enter the settings and I see three different APNs that were not created by me (they must be the standard carrier ones): they are called Vodafone DE (for Germany), 1und1 (pretty strange because the settings are the very same on this one, only the name is different) and Vodafone DE-MMS.
The strange thing now is that I can't change any value of the Vodafone DE APN... When I go into its settings, everything ia greyed out. This was the same on the stock ROM...
Now when I create a new APN with the correct provider settings (found via Google on the VF homepage), the phone still won't work. When I put the device aside for a few minutes, the Vodafone Deutschland DE APN is the selected APN again although I never went back to it...
Is there some option to take a deeper look into the modem stats to see what's the problem?
Install stock ROM

I tried that already, but it didn't help. Same problem...
I factory resetted the phone, wiped cache and dalvik cache and then flashed my Vodafone branded stock ROM via Odin that I had on my device when I got it. Didn't help for some reason... But: should I also try to go back to stock ROM via KIES? I haven't tried this method until now...
Edit: About my flashing method: I went from the stock ROM to rooted (via CF Auto root with Odin). For PAC I then flashed TWRP 2.6.0 and then in recovery factory resetted the phone, wiped cache and dalvik and then installed PAC. After that I installed GApps. I used this method before and it worked without any problems...
Edit2: I found this thread, it appears to be the same/a similar problem with the S3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1805709&page=6
Now is there something similar for the S4? I think I tried calling ##72786# on stock ROM and it didn't work...

Delete the unused APNs.
Do you have mobile data?
Also I asume that you're running the latest vertigo's build, because with me GSM/WCDMA/LTE is always selected.

Sometimes I have mobile data, but only for very limited time; for the majority of time, I don't have mobile data and can not make calls.
I also tried to delete the unused APNs, but still no change =/
I tried to use a different Micro SIM in this device, but the same problem appears. No data, no phone although I have grey reception balks.
any update on this one?!

[Q] G900F won't make or receive calls

Hi
I have searched the forum beforehand and can't find a post with the same symptoms so...
I have just bought an S5 which will not make or receive calls or texts, although my mobile data works fine!
The guy I bought it from said he had it brand new and sealed, and used a Giff Gaff card for a few hours with no problems before the issue developed. I'm using Virgin. It was apparently from new, a Three network phone but did not appear to be locked to their network.... no unlock messages appeared when my SIM was inserted, it all appeared to work until I tried dialling!
I get a good signal and all the indicators are that the system is connected and functional, but when I dial any number the phone dials briefly then shows "Call ended". Texts just fail after a short while. Emergency calls work OK so the radio seems fine.
From the wonderful Phone Info app the following are installed:
Bootloader version: G900FXXU1BNL9
Baseband version: G900FXXU1BNL9
PDA version G900FXXU1BNL9
CSC version G900FH3G1BNL1
Product code: SM-G900FZBAH3G
I have tried the BOB7 BTU firmware via Odin and this worked ok but didn't fix the problem.
I also tried to downgrade to 4.4.2 with both the Three firmware and the ANG2 BTU firmware. Both just cause the phone to hang at the splash screen.
The serial number, IMEI number and the "refurbishment" check all show the phone as genuine.
Knox is still sitting nicely at 0x0.
Looking through the service menu settings nothing obviously jumps out as a problem but it does seem to be some sort of SIM lock.
Phone info shows the manufacturing date as 2015.01.03 so should be in warranty so I'm holding off rooting it as long as possible
I have scoured the internet and found a couple of others with the same problem but no helpful replies to their queries.
Any ideas anyone? Thanks guys
Try a Giff Gaff SIM in it, if that works, you have your answer
If you have upgraded from 4.4 to 5.09 through Odin as I did with mine which is Generic BTU the phone calls and texts would not work after the update so I did a factory reset then flashed the BTU firmware again did another factory reset and the phone has been fine ever since.
One of my friends got an S5 just before Christmas on 3 Network he was told by them that they no longer sim lock their phones how true this is I don't know but he tells me that's what the sales person told him, but he now has Generic BTU firmware on it not the original 3 firmware, he had to do a factory reset twice before his worked properly
So it may be worth trying bt flashing the BTU firmware again (BOB7) then doing a factory rest, flash the firmware again after that and factory reset once more then see if it works properly
Thanks for the quick replies.
I have flashed the BOB7 and BNL9 firmware several times with factory resets... no difference. I have also tried to downgrade from the original 5.0 to 4.4.2 (UK S5 didn't get 4.4.4 as far as I'm aware) but the phone hangs on the splash screen and I then can't boot into recovery.
I am waiting for a Giff Gaff SIM to try but tried my mate's contract Three SIM yesterday and again data was usable but no phone or texting. In fact it was worse than the Virgin SIM as it displayed no network whereas the all the Virgin info was there as it would be on a working phone.
I originally thought it was a faulty radio but as emergency calls work I have ruled this out.
One thing I've noticed is that in the Service menus there is sometimes the message to "Pease reboot" - an obvious typo but not something I would have thought Samsung would have overlooked. Maybe it's a dodgy clone. Anyway of knowing for sure?
One other thing that may or may not be relevant. In my working phones with the Virgin SIM, the Service menu shows the "Speech Ver" as "FR FR FR" as does the dodgy S5 when it has the Three SIM in it. When I put the Virgin SIM in the phone the "Speech Ver" changes to "AMR, EFR, FR". The "FR" I believe means "Full Range" so is that a contributing factor?
I've attached a screenshot of the phone menu with the Three SIM inserted.
Thanks for your help so far guys, it's much appreciated, this has me stumped.

Thanks for that mate, mine compares ok with yours, particularly the "About" status.
I have now tried 02, Three and Giff Gaff sims as well as my Virgin sim. Same problem, can use mobile data but no calls or texts.
reflashed 3 more times with a factory reset after each, same problem.

Problem with the apn setting

Recently unlocked my Samsung Galaxy s7 edge. I decided to transfer my sim from my iPhone to my Samsung. I can text and call but my mobile data is not working. I believe it has something to do with my apn settings. But once I try to go to my apn settings it says "Unable to view access point name. Access is restricted to current user profile.
Would love to have someone to help me fix this problem.
What carrier is your s7
Globe (from the Philippines) gotnit unlocked and moved to Canada and using a Canadian sim atm
Sounds like a common problem going back to the introduction of mm. Carries implemented it to stop users from getting free Hotspot usage without them having the feature on there plans.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help/apn-settings-t3072391
Here's some info I found on it with a possible fix on one of the post. Also the sprint s7e forum has users talking about losing the ability to change apn after OTAs
Sorry my Internet is dreadfully slow and having a hard time browsing through this forum. So do I have to root my phone in order to make the modifications to get my 3g to work?
Still having problems but I'm getting somewhere..
The carrier I bought this phone from did some retarded modifications to this phone.
So most likely the problem is this "user profile" it might be fixed if I can change or delete it or whatever. But the problem is I can't find the place where you can change this user profile. It seems it's supposed to be in "about device" but there is nothing that could change the user profile. I think the previous carrier somehow modified it stupidly. Reformatting doesn't help BTW.

Globe-locked S7 unlocked.
Same thing here. I just recently unlock my phone using the unlock code given to me by Globe telecom but when I use different sim network, I can only do call & text. I contacted Globe and the agent told me that unlocking is for call & text only and mobile data still locked to Globe.
Can we bypass this by reflashing openline firmware or wait for Oreo update?

After the Oreo update, I still have same issue. But before I upgraded to Oreo, I managed to fix the issue. I was trying to root my device (Nougat), unfortunately, it failed. So I downloaded openline firmware (PH version) for S7 in Sammobile and reflashed. I think I missed flashing CSC file but it was successful. The other sim network worked fine and can be used for data already. But when I checked for OS updates, it has no CSC code indicated, and my settings interface was like from UK (not sure). So I reflashed again with CSC file already and it got back to Globe interface and same issue occured. Haha. But the point is, we can fix the issue by changing CSC.

Great mate! What csc can we use? Thanks!
CSC Codes
Google the list of CSC codes per country.
To change CSC code, enter *#272*Device IMEI#
Tried XTC (Philippines - Open Line) and it worked.

Flashing EE firmware onto a stock BTU

Hello Everyone!
As an EE customer I would like to take advantage of their "Wi-Fi calling" feature on my S5 (G-900F), however that requires EE branded firmware.
My question is, would I be able to flash EE firmware onto a stock BTU firmware via Odin3, without any issues?
Thanks in advance
I wouldn't, it can be done but they have a major issue with memory leak on Wifi calling which they have not fixed so your device storage fills up very quickly with no option to clear it, the only solution is to factory reset the device. Google S5 IPsec

Enable wifi calling on samsung purchased s8

I am on Three (UK) and I now understand that wifi calling is a carrier feature and a phone purchased direct from samsung will not have this enabled.
I have found that you can flash carrier firmware to enable this but I have a few questions:
Can i do so without the carrier bloat such as a horrible boot screen and preinstalled apps?
Will this affect my Knox / android pay / secure folder access?
Is there any way I can flash the wifi calling functionality without a complete reflash?
Thanks
Does 3 have WiFi calling? I don't think so.
Unless it's new. I left them in Feb after many years to get Volte. There was no voWifi then.
The reason I ask is voWifi worked out the box on my unlocked BTU S8 with EE.
Volte did not and required me to flash the EE firmware. This works a treat. No knox trip, no branding or bloat, no AP or secure folder issues.
If you want supervoice, you will need to flash the firmware.
Edit - seems I was speaking bollocks, yes they have WiFi calling, called "embedded wifi" now. As said, with EE this worked out the box for me. Only needed their firmware for Volte.
Three does have voWiFi aswell as voLTE/vo4G (In select areas).
Call Three and make sure WiFi Calling is enabled on your account and then you should receive a carrier update adding the WiFi Calling option.
(Source: Method I used with Vodafone UK)
I though three used an app for WiFi calling? Or at least that was the only way I could get it to work when I was with them a few years ago.
Edit: I've just read that they have built in vowifi but only on certain handsets. Perhaps the s8 isn't supported as yet?
I did a chat with them, S8 is supported for voWifi it seems.
Here in Poland, phone with non branded system works with WiFi calling. There's setting in dialer options (three dots menu). After I toggled it on wifi calling started to work.
TIM purchased s8 here, flashed the h3g firmware and volte and WiFi calling both function.
Bloat is there (boot screen and m$ office).
No call to three required to activate, it just works as soon as the correct CSC is on the device

Three's website does confirm the S8 is compatible for WiFi Calling.
Go into the Phone app, press the three dot's -> Settings and see if there is a WiFi Calling toggle, this is at the bottom of the list.
If WiFi Calling is not there, make sure you have the latest update installed.
Update via the following guide from Three themselves: (please add a :// after http and make sure there are no gaps as I am not yet allowed to post links): http support.three.co.uk/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBISAPI.dll/,/?New,Kb=Mobile,Ts=Mobile,T=Device,varset_pid=40031,varset_cid=40041,Case=EXT(EM114337)
I've literally just switched from BTU to H3G and WiFi calling appeared instantly during setup. I did have to use CSC rather than HOME_CSC, as the latter caused Odin to fail first time around. I have also confirmed WiFi calling and texts are working, which is a huge plus as the lab in which I work seems to block all mobile signal!
Did installing H3G also enable VoLTE?
Cheers
Thanks for the quick replies everyone! Wifi calling is enabled in my account (it worked on my iphone) but the wifi calling option is not there at all. (I've checked all guides, including the 3 dots then going into phone settings) I know there is an app but it is horrifc, calls often don't come through at all, the app requires a persistent notification and is a major battery drain. @goRt @foo25 - > did you guys follow a guide for flashing three firmware? Do you know of any way to avoid the carrier bloat / sim lock?
Thanks all!
I've just flashed the three firmware from the Samsung version. After flashing, inbuilt Wi-Fi calling just worked. Wi-Fi calling toggle also appeared in phone- 3dots- settings menu. 800mz band 20 LTE also started working after switching firmware which means an extra bar or two when band 3 LTE signal is low.
The only downside I could see is the three UK splash screen on boot. I haven't noticed any extra bloat apart from the three likes app which I uninstalled straight away.
The phone is not SIM locked by flashing the carrier firmware.

I didn't follow a guide but there are plenty around for flashing stock firmware on the S8 or S8+.
I just downloaded the latest version of Odin, and then the latest three.uk firmware from Samobile. I unzipped the firmware then loaded each of the components into the relevant Odin section ie. CP into CP section AP into AP section etc. I made the mistake of loading the 'CP Home' firmware into the CP section of Odin which caused the flash to fail which required use of Samsung emergency recovery procedure. I did that three times before trying loading 'CP' part of firmware into CP part of Odin which worked fine.

*Download latest odin
*download desired firmware. (samobile) and extract it.
*go to settings>about device>software info>tap build number 7 times until developer options enabled.
*go to developer options and enable USB debugging and OEM unlock.
*plug phone into pc and let it install the drivers.
*turn off phone and boot to download mode.
*open odin and click AP. Insert the firmware you just downloaded.
*odin options should be: auto reboot checked, F reset time checked, repartition UNCHECKED.
*connect phone to odin and it will say added. COM box will turn blue. Just click start and let it do it's thing.
The first boot up can take a short while.
Thanks to everyone for the detailed replies.
One more question: I use secure folder and plan to use android pay. My colleague told me that flashing a new firmware will trip knox which will render these features unusable.
Will flashing the official 3 firmware do this? I'm only flashing to get a feature as advertised (there's a lot to be said for iPhone's just "working" )
Thanks

Aslong as you flash official samsung firmware then knox will not be triped as its signed by samsung. Knox only trips when flashing twrp, root or any custom roms.
Before you start, do you have the option for wifi calling in phone>settings right at the bottom?
Like this
Hi all i have flashed my btu s8 to h3g and i also have the wifi option in the menu and it works great, however i can't find the volte option anywhere and i have never yet seen the symbols for it on my status bar.
When i had my old btu s4 i also flashed that to h3g and i remember the volte symbols showed up in the status bar.
So do i need to do anthing to activate volte?

Hi there,
There is no option for volte, if your network supports it then it will automatically be on where ever you have 4G signal. There is no option in settings but the icon looks like in the screenshot
