[Q] Samsung Account wont sync - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi i have a gs5 on xtrestolite 1.3.4 and i cant get my samsung account to sync and it has some important school documents saved in memo. Is there anyway i can get it to sync? The option for it is grayed out and i really need the documents for tomorrow! Thanks!

Just goes to show you the importance of backups and local copies that you can more reliably access.
Try in order;
Wiping the system partition from recovery mode.
Clearing the cache and data for the Samsung account from the Application manager screen (in the Settings menu)
Delete and recreate your Samsung account on your phone. Do not delete the account per se, just the info on your phone.
And as a last resort, if you are under time pressure.. back up anything important on your phone. Then write a 100% stock firmware image to the phone with the Odin software, followed by a factory data reset. Pretty much a sledgehammer approach that will fix pretty much any client side issues.

Cannot login to Google Account...

Earlier today I flashed Fresh 1.1 onto my phone.. I was having some issues with the Calendar syncing up so I unchecked the sync under Settings-Data Sync-Google and backed out of it. (this is where the problems began) I also went to Applications-Manage applications and cleared the cache/data out of the calendar, gmail and google apps. I have removed all of the sprint apps except nfl network (some before, some after Flashing 1.1)
Whenever I go back to Settings-Data Sync-Google or try to open up the market, gmail, calendar or any of the google services, it askes me to "set up my google account".. I click next and it goes to "setting up your Hero200" so I click sign in and type in my login info and I get the message: Can't establish a reliable data connection to the
server. This could be a temporary problem or your SIM card
may not be provisioned for data services. If continues,
call Customer Care. I do have a data connection because I browse on Dolphin, everything else works fin
I've rebooted, but not restored an earlier backup.. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post...
are you on 3G or wifi?
WiFi, but I've tried it on 3g and it doesn't seem to make difference...
I read somewhere that someone manually set the APN for Sprint, does that make any sense to anyone?
I found this on another forum, can anyone confirm that this might help, or at least won't screw my phone up seriously if I try it:
"Is simple, but you need to be root and know how to play with the device: just delete the folder
/data/data/com.android.providers.settings and restart (before and after) and you can
use the wizard again."
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3477
i'm not sure, but go to settings>about phone>system updates and try updating the Profile and the PRL. since you're rooted don't mess with the firmware or anything though.
Have you tried restoring your nandroid backup yet?
I updated the Profile and PRL and still no change. I haven't restored my backup, yet...
I'm seriously thinking about following the advise in the link above and deleting: /data/data/com.android.providers.settings and see if that helps.. If I do this and it still doesn't work, I can do my restore and try that and if all else fails, start all over.. Right?
Before I delete this file, I want to back it up on my SD Card, I just push it to the SD card, correct? The problem is, that I have no idea what's in that file, that's why I'm hesitant to do this.. If it does screw something up, a backup should restore this, correct?
Thanks!
Been there, done that, couldn't fix it. I'm convinced that doing the "clear data" for those apps is not a good idea.
I ended up restoring the Nandroid I took right before I cleared that info, then instead went online and changed my Gmail password. That forced me to run through the Google Account Setup wizard again, which actually worked fine.
Yeah, when I cleared that data it wiped all my contacts and everything... I changed my google password and I'm going to restore a backup and see what happens.... At least I should have my contacts back....
Ok, that worked (for now anyways!!) Thanks johnnythan!! I restored a Nandroid and it prompted me for my google password right away...
I'm still getting the calendar force close whenever it tries to sync (problem I was originally trying to fix) but I'll live with that for now... It seems to sync, but takes a couple tries after force closing...
Thanks, much better than starting over from a full reboot!!
have you tried flashing the unofficial modaco rom version 1.3a? If you flash it, and follow the instructions to clear the dalvik and boot cache it may take care of your problems.
I think I tried that in the Fresh1.1 PreKitchen and I don't believe it helped.. I'll defiantly keep that in mind if I have this issue again.. Thanks!

Giving my G2 away - How to "clean" the phone?!

I am giving away my phone to a friend, but how do I "clean" the phone?
Like, I want to erase/uinstall all the apps I've downloaded and installed, empty my messages, folders and camera files... Make it look like "new"..
Can I save my sms/text messages + contacts and their details on my PC or something? Or can I perhaps put them on my sim-card as I won't be giving away the sim-card?
I will be using another android phone, of course.
There are various programs on the market that perform sms backups/restores. I use SMS backup+ to backup my sms every few hours automatically to my gmail account under a label entitled "SMS." I think there is an option to restore SMS in that app too.
As for contacts, they should be backed up with your google account (email). Log into your google account on a computer and under contacts will be various groups. I've created a group specifically with phone numbers to appear under my contacts on android (Contacts [push menu]> display>click google account.and check the contact group you want on the phone).
By default, google will back up your contacts. Under settings, push accounts and sync, and manage your google account. There, the Sync contacts should be enabled and all of your contacts will sync to the google account (where you can edit the groups I've outlined above).
I would connect the phone to a computer, create a folder, and copy all of the contents of your SD card into that folder just in case. When you're ready to pass on the phone, wipe the sd card (on the computer or on the phone by settings>storage>erase sd card).
Reboot into recovery and wipe data, cache, etc. There might be a factory reset option as well. If you aren't rooted, I'm not sure, but there might be a key sequence that does the wipes for you. Try a google search for that.

market - smsbackup - works great here, puts all your sms on your sdcard. then email them to yourself.
then
settings - factory reset (wipes everything you ever did off the phone)
if you make a TiTanium Backup of the device first, you can just move everything from the sdcard to your new phone, or let google take care of the settings (online backup). either way, it's pretty painless.
what are you getting next ?
should take
If you're rooted you can data wipe from within CWM and format your sd card and also for backing up you can use mybackup very handy application. It'll backup your apps, sms, call logs, contacts and your media(camera pictures, videos)
Menu -> Settings -> Privacy -> Factory Data Reset

Recover contacts (and messages) after factory reset

Hi
yesterday I couldnt start my phone (S5360) anymore. Every time I tried it would freeze during the boot logo. So I tried a factory reset and it worked. But now of course all data has been deleted. Is there a way to get at least my contacts back (maybe my messages too)? Would it help to root the phone and let a recovery program such as Stellar run over the system folders?
I never used google to sync my contacts and didnt create any backup whatsover either....unfortunately.
thanks
Peter

i don't think it's possible (easily). your contact saved in internal memory. any recovery software need raw access your media. maybe possible to create partition dump from recovery mode and do recovery to that image, but to really get all your data back you need a lot of work. my advice, enable sync to google contact. it's help a lot, especially if you have multiple android device or change your rom frequently.
btw, we already have Q/A section. better to put this kind of question in that section.
for the contact...you can make a backup easily by import your contact into your sdcard (*vcf file). thats the easiest method. for the sms, there are a lot of sms backup app out there. use your hand a little bit on google and you'll surely find it.

Cannot restore backup from Samsung Cloud

Hi, in these days my phone was sent to service repair. Now all data is cleared. Before repair I made a full backup via Samsung account.
Now I can't restore backup, also tried wipe data and re-flash firmware.
At first boot tried to restore backup, when it search for backups, it appear a loading bar with something like "Restore" and it looking for backups but it will disappear in few seconds.
I have minimum of 3 backups stored, tried to redo a backup manually and restore but I can't, same via Settings->Backup and restore.
What can I do? It seems that I can't restore my past and future backups.
Thank you
Hi, I have same problem, did you already solve it?
Not yet, I think that it's not a problem related with the smartphone but with the account. I think that we have to call Samsung support.
Same issue here with S7!
SOLVED! Resetted the app Samsung Cloud and then updated, reboot, wait 2/3 mins and restored backup successfully.
Did not work. How did you reset? Just cleared the data? And I see no updates..

Yes, cleared cache and data. It worked for me.
You may try to see logs.
1. Open dialer and compose *#9900#, clic on DEBUG LEVEL and select MID or HIGH, your device will reboot automatically.
2. Redo the procedure to try to restore backup(in this way you will generate the logs for your issue)
3. Open dialer and compose *#9900#, clic on RUN DUMPSTATE/LOGCAT/MODEM LOG, wait for the process to complete and select COPY TO SD CARD (include CP RAMDUMP)
4. Search for the log file and see if you can read something wrong.
Contacted Samsung Support. And that is exactly what they did - updated (some nontrivial way) Samsung Cloud app. Then I could do the restore! Hurray!
what should i do next after this?
If anyone still has this issue, what worked for me was to go to Galaxy Apps and update the Cloud app. (You have to display system apps.)
It's a tip I found here:

You can follow the steps to get back your Samsung data.
1. Recover the wanted data from Samsung Account. To get back your files, you need to go to Settings and elect Accounts once again. Next, choose Samsung account and tap on Restore. After that, you can select the file types that you want to restore and click on Restore now to start restoring.
2. Confirm your option. After taping on the Restore now option, a pop-up prompt will appear to ask you to confirm your action. Just tap on ok to proceed the process.
I had a problem with restoring my repaired phone. It turned out I had two Samsung Cloud accounts; one with one phone contact and approximately 6 photos. The two SC accounts were attached to two different emails. I found this out by logging in to Samsung Cloud on my PC. Then I had to do a hard restore on my phone and then I was able to sign in to the correct SC account and could restore my precious data.

problems with restoration

the problem is the following, I want to delete all the apps from the phone, I will reset the settings and reestablish it, when I start andorid, fill all the data it asks me, at the end I have the same applications again, I have deleted everything from the menu recovery, and I have done the same but they are not still using the same apps, I have even deleted everything from recovery and created a new gmail account (just in case there was a backup in drive), but it still does not work. So my question is this: Where are the applications restored from, if I have a different gmail account and have deleted everything from recovery ', HELP.

So normally when you factory reset the phone and then go through setup again, it should ask you to restore from backup or setup your phone as new. When you setup your phone as "new", it shouldn't install your apps again but it will install all default Google apps as usual.
