[Q] Installing apps from Windows phone store - Windows 8 General

Hi, Everyone.
I just got a Panasonic ToughPad FZ-G1 for work/personal use and wanted to download a turn-by-turn navigation for it. For some reason, Waze was not available for download from the Market Place and all other navigation apps did not give you turn by turn navigation. I use google maps on my galaxy s4, and it gives you a turn by turn on the screen. Is there a way to download apps from windows phone store to the tablet to use? Is there an alternative store to windows store? Also, would you recommend any other apps to use with the ToughPad?
Thank you for your help.

I downloaded Here Maps. It shows a map, but does not do a turn by turn navigation, like tomtom or google maps on the whone or waze does.

Short answer: No.
Longer answer: Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 are not the same OS. You're doing the equivalent of asking whether there's a way to run iPhone apps on your Mac. Just... no.
Actual answer: I don't actually know of any turn-by-turn apps for "real" Windows. Most people use their phones for that...

Thank you for your response. Nice and clear.

GPS mapping software

Hey guys, i'm looking for a good mapping software for the Evo. something similar to TomTom. I'm about to take a trip this summer and i want a mapping app that is not based on the internet just in case i hit a deadzone.
if anyone could recommend something, i would be most grateful!
Use Sprint nav, it has turn by turn, and recalculates if you miss a turn. However i do not know if the sprint charges more to use this service.
If you have an unlimited data plan its included, and Sprint Nav is really great.
from what i heard, sprint nav costs extra every month. plus, the key here is an app that does NOT need internet. i.e. tomtom, destinator, igo, navigon etc. that way i can use it even if i hit a deadzone during my roadtrip
your gonna have to get a stand alone gps for that man there is no app that does that.....
and sprint nav does not cost extra
Sprint NAV is included at no charge for the $79.99 plan with the EVO 4G.
mapdroyd will do what you need.
okay, i read up on mapdroyd and from what i understand, you install the app, then purchases maps from navteq etc. but will it let you search POI's? TomTom on my touch pro would let me search restaurants and parks etc
Copilot is a very nice GPS SATNAV program. Which is out now for android.
IGO - is not out yet.
NAVIGON is not out yet.

I am not sure what downloads you are speaking of. The EVO 4G comes with it pre-loaded. No maps to download, etc.
I just put in Outback Steakhouse and it pulled up all the ones around me and I am able to Navigate to the closest one pretty quickly.
Am I missing something?
the nav in our phones use data to download the maps in real time... if you disable the data on your phone the nav will not work.

I should have mentioned that thank you. When I said no maps to download I meant that its not asking to download a large file and then use it. It's updated in real time.
If they were to charge you for it like AT&T then you would have to agree to the EULA on the front screen like AT&T and you will be notified of the monthly charges to your bill. It's not trial ware from what I have seen.
I use Co-Pilot anyways and I like Google Car Panel Nav.
why not just leave your old touch pro in the car? Use it as a backup standalone GPS?
unless there is a 3rd party app that installs the maps the tp also uses the data for nav lol.... the best thing to do is just ride it out and hope for the best or get a standalone gps...
i also wanted to let you know if u use google and if you lose service you will still have the directions page available... just not turn by turn nav

X10 gps question

Hello guys, yesterday i used the maps and it said i need to turn my 3g on i usually have it off. And when i press navigate it said i need to enable gps and i did. So my question is doesnt gps run without 3g or internet on other phones? And also i wana know does it use data?
because google maps requires an internet connection...
I all depends on which application you use for navigation.
Short answer:
Check with the software instrucions / help files to see how it behaves and works.
Long answer:
Some map software's have all the map data you need for your region already packed with it.
Advantage: No data need to be downloaded within the region, fast, works offline.
Disadvantage: Tricky to update the maps and often charge you for additional regions. Takes up space on the device.
Other apps download maps on the go as you navigate.
Advantage: Always the latest maps as you navigate. Takes less space on the device. Disadvantage: slow or even non-functional with poor or no data connection.
Google maps and Google navigation are of the latter one. They downloads maps as you navigate. therefor it is a good idea to have a data-plan with your provider so no additional expenses comes to.
They are free to use, so if you already have a data-plan with your provider, it's practically free.
On the X10, there are one application included by Sony Ericsson on most X10 sold out there: Wisepilot.
Wisepilot are the kind where you buy maps and download them into your phone, once this is done, it will use little or none of your data-connection.
I'm not sure, but I think Wisepilot are the kind that can be used offline once maps are bought and downloaded.
It can use the data-connection to download additional information such as "speed limit cameras", "spots of interest" and so on.
Try Mapdroid
This app downloads the MAP files when internet is available and can be used offline also with GPS activated..... try this, this is da best app

hey, when you use google navigation, will you be able to use the voice guidance??? I am having troubles to use the voice guidance...not sure how to activate it....
Having to buy the maps and such for wisepilot.. I wish there was a better solution for GPS on the x10. I wouldn't mind using it, but not necessary.
You can use GPS without 3G. I can even get a lock with my phone in airport mode and inside a cement building. When I say cement I mean cement, the floor, walls, and ceiling are all cement (hurricane proof). It is the third (top) floor however.
GPS software on x10
Currently I installed Navigon, Ndrive, MotoNave and Copilot 8 on my x10i with various world maps and all fully functional without 3g or network connection, direct data from satellite in orbit with the phone inbuild GPS receiver. Why you may ask? Because I can. How you may ask? The answers is out there! I am giving you the knowledge , now go and find your answers.
X10 is an Awsome device.
Another solution is to use the Brut Google Maps mod. It allows you to view previously viewed maps from the SD card. It saves the Google maps cache to your SD, but the only downside is that you have to view all of the places you want to travel on at all zoom levels.
If anyone needs it, I have the majority of Menorca done at all zoom levels......
I tend to use google navigation, the best bit of this is when you have your route downloaded and the voice guidance starts, you can then switch off your 3g and it still routes you. Obviously if you take a wrong turn it won't be able to download a new route until you switch 3g back on, but hey

Wow really.. so I can use my phone's gps rather than my car's and I DON"T need 3g?? that's sweet..
Only too bad I don't know how to install any other GPS on my phone... I'm such a noob. Back to my magellans GPS .. ool
Anyone willing to go through the process with me ? haha

It automatically did it on mine. On google map, tap on Direction. When you enter direction it will ask you to activate GPS (if not already activated).

the google navigation works fine, just there is no voice guidance... It only has the "beep" sound when it is about to change in direction (like make left/right turn, stay in the lane, or heading out to the exit) So I am wondering how to make it with turn by turn with voice guidance turn on...

Try going to your phone Settings/Speech Synthesis/Install voice data...
If that doesn't work the I've no idea
Good luck!

I like em all but the one I find myself using the most is Copilot 8 and yes you are right, button presses are laggy on Motonav. I travel all over the world with my job so these GPA apps are very handy to have on a single device.
Best device for my needs. Great apps, awesome GPS, great camera, storage space (16GB), 3G & wifi and movies.

Garmin Mobile XT

If this as already been asked I apologize as I already "Searched" and cant find anything. I was wondering if there is a free Garmin Mobile app out there? I really didnt want to buy it but its looking like I'm gonna have to.
Nope, the app is free, but the maps are not. If you want free navigation, get Bing.
Ok, I have the app loaded now. Im trying to purchase now instead of the free trial from my phone and keep getting an error message I believe because I dont have an external gps to hook up to it. Is there a way around this and if not which maps are compatible to the HD2?
I do not know. The best way to get Garmin working to purchase the SD card bundle from Garmin. But really, just fire up the marketplace and download Bing, its got free turn by turn navigation, streets are announced by name, dynamically changing maps(IE, it shows a literal map of your location, not just the roads), and, most importantly, its 100% free and works excellently on the HD2.

Yes there is..You just go to SETTINGS then REMOTE GPS. Make sure you choose the port that Garmin will use to obtain GPS data. If you go to your phone's GPS Settings under program tab whatever port is selected there that should be the port that you are going to use in Garmin.
The latest version is 5.00.20wp
Despite what anyone says. Bing still needs some improvement, along with Google.

GPS -Without Internet

Is there an GPS app on market place which i can use on my tab 10.1? My goal is to use to GPS and maps without internet. Please reply ONLY if you you have tested and downloaded the app. Thanks in advance
Gaia works fine. I got it free back when Amazon Appstore actually gave away good apps at its inception.
You can also use the included Google Nav app offline.
Sygic Aura works, there's a trial version available. http://is.gd/hgnjv0
You can download maps and then use Google Maps offline, but you can't use any of the navigation features without a network connection (apart from seeing where you are on the pre-downloaded map).

Ah, thank you letting me know I'm not the only one who has noticed the quality of Amazon's free apps has gone doooooooooooown. Not that they owe anybody anything, but the free apps always suck now.
I am using Navigon for offline navigation that also has a map feature. costs somewhat though.

Google map and native navigation app

Is there any way to start copilot or Tom Tom instead of Google navigation when use Google map?
I don't think so. I can't see anyway you could do that.
I remember few years ago there was a button you could just click and run any navi app installed. Weird. It is almost like an apple now- forcing to use Google everywhere.
