Bootanimation Survival Tip - ONE General

Hi,
this tip is not mine, and I read it somewhere here on XDA (if the person who wrote that reads this, please feel free to contact and I will add Credits ASAP )
This tip will help you keep your favorite Bootanimation regardless of the ROM you are flashing AS LONG AS YOU DO NOT FLASH DATA PARTITION, so if you are on MAHDI/PA/Slim/WhatEver and you like a different bootanimation and you want it to "survive" DIRTY FLASHING this is for you :highfive:
- grab your favorite bootanimation.zip
- copy it to /data/local
- set appropriate permissions 644 (or rw-r--r-- as you wish )
- enjoy
(wrote this 'coz I could not remember exactly what folder it was for copy and I've searched for the place I've read that and could not find it, so let it be here if someone finds it useful  )

and btw, if the moderators find it more appropriate to be in Themes Section, it's cool

[GUIDE] Changing your bootanimation and delete those ugly sound

*EDITED*
This is very easy now after having the permanent ROOT -- thanks to PAUL for wonderful Visionary+, Evostance for brilliant guide, and those geniuses who make this happened (you know who )
First you need to get permanent root. Here is the link to the guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834427
(If you read till page 10, you will definitely know how to do it and what to expect).
Second, go buy ROOT EXPLORER from the market. (Best explorer for rooted phone period).
Go to /system/customize/resource
Make sure you enable the r/w (read write option), other wise you cant do modification.
You will see both the audio and bootanimation there.
If you hated that sound (just like me), just delete the audio.mp3. If you want to change the bootanimation, just copy your bootnimation.zip to overwrite the default one.
That's all....reboot the phone....and you will have your peace...and enjoy the new bootanimation.

I am just wondering is the good old way of adb pushing the bootanimation.zip work for HD? I do noticed the stock animation are located in /customize/resource folder in the system ROM. Has anyone try changing the bootanimation? Just hated those sound in bootup (prefer no sound).

firstly i'd like to state, this is development and not Q & A not being mean just stating.
secondly if you had read the ref guide which is pinned to the top you might have got your answer.
finally your answer...
NO
you can not write on the nand with the temp root. no can you adb push.
permanent root is on its way and i believe the nand will be unlocked on that so you may have write permissions. once this has been obtained then you can push a custom boot animation if required.

First of all thank you for the answer (actually I also thought so, and your answer just confirmed that)
And as for posting in develeopment, I DO believe that changing bootanimation is part of Android development (anything that involved creating/modifying and changing of the default system files). Just like recovery or flashing tools, people also develop bootanimation changer application to make life easier for others.
Also I did some search, and this is the first post for any bootanimation for Desire HD. I hope once "root" has been accomplished. People can just use this thread to put the guide to changing those animation.
Therefore I do read and follow the guidelines.

well glad you're a happy bunny
but several things,it isn't development as you were asking a question at time of writing.
secondly themes section deals with bootanimation and things like that. sound can be disabled by just renaming the file i.e. add a .bak after mp3 just for back up purpose or you can delete the file entirely up to the user.
with customs roms, they may be in a different location. i do believe that AOSP builds are located in media where as in sense builds /customize/resource
it can change depending on the developers choice really. thats why when a person releases a theme, it states what rom the user must be using to avoid problems.
anyways there's no need to carry on with that as you have got what you wanted, full root so you can do w.e. you like know
my personal favourite boot animation was the original hero one, but since that doesnt work anymore/havent found 1 that has been converted to work with the new roms, i like "making fro-yo" it just draws a pic of a frozen yoghert and colours it in.
I purchased Bootanimation changer by Andres Schomis a while back when I was still using the original Desire. There are quite a few nice and interesting ones there. My fav so far is the pissing droid (to piss off some of my iphone mate ) and the alienware. I am sure they are also available in this forum (just do a search). There is no option for desire HD yet, but seem like the one that work for Desire also work just fine in HD. To make the app work, you will need to set the custom path. I highly recommend that app for bootanimation.
Somehow I feel this thread should be in the Themes/Apps subforum instead Since it basically has to do with customization. Anyway, thanks a lot for the instructions.

Agreed with you there mate
I do like the instructions, always helpful for those not browsing the development threads (which do take up a lot of reading time )
Ok can some one tell me what i'm i doing wrong?? it's been more then 6 hours since I started working on this.
Here is my anamtion
Download me please
I cant figure out whats wrong with it....
I even saved it as store with winrar even tried copying the files inside the HTC stock zip and still same problem
can someone help me please?
Bump any one can help?
Just delete the bootanimation.zip inside the /system/customize/resource
Then just copy your animation to the same path /system/customize/resource.
Make sure your animation is also named bootanimation.zip
For some reason I'm not able to enable the r/w function in the resource folder. The only place I can do it is in the root directory (with system, sdcard etc). Any idea of why this is happening? (my phone is perma-rooted and I have granted Super user permissions).

Does anyone know what would happen if you removed the boot animation entirely? Will the phone still boot ok?
I'm happy not to have one at all if it speeds things up
Guys
first I didn't find the bootanimation in system ressource i found it in data/local/
along with the android-audio.mp3
second I tried to change these file it worked but the animation doesn't show up and I have just a small android when I boot up
What can I do ?
PS : my file may be too big 27 megabite for the bootanimation.zip
I tried already, but why whenever I reboot, the bootanimation.zip would revert to the original one?

How To Change Bootanimations And Boot Sounds !

HOW TO CHANGE BOOTANIMATIONS AND BOOTSOUNDS !!
*The size 7 looks funky eh? *
Ok, so this thread is a tutorial on how to change the bootanimations and bootsounds on our beloved LG - Optimus One/P500..(You had already guessed that, had'nt you? ) .. Basically I will start from scratch so this thread can be easily understood and appreciated () by everyone including newbies to Android ('n00bs' is racist, isn't it ?) ..So here goes...
PRIMARY REQUIREMENTS
1) First and foremost 'BRAINS' .. Please read and re-read the thread carefully before asking any stupid questions.
2) A Rooted Phone. Use any one click application such as z4root or gingerbreak to root your phone. There are many tutorials on the net for that matter.
3) A file manager (Installed on your phone) with the ability to R/W (Read/Write) .. Such as Root Explorer (Highly Reccomended) ,File Expert..etc..
4) ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE TRYING ANY OF THESE METHODS.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
BOOTANIMATIONS
1) Download any bootanimations online (or create one using the link below) and make sure they are of '.zip' format. Please see the links below this section.
2) DO NOT extract the file. Simply rename the file to 'bootanimation.zip' (without the quotes).
eg: if your file name is xxxxx.zip ,change it to bootanimation.zip
3) Connect your Phone to the computer ,turn on usb mass storage and copy paste the file onto your sdcard. You can place it anywhere, but just remember to keep track of it. Turn of usb mass storage and disconnect.
4) Go to Root Explorer and move your file to data/local (put it in the 'local' folder) or system/media. The location of the bootanimation varies with ROMs . Wherever you see the old bootanimation.zip file, put it in that folder. If a file with the same name already exists, replace it with the new file and move the old file onto your sdcard. (Thats your old bootanimation)
5) Reboot
STFU and enjoy your new bootanimation !
NOTES :
If the file you downloaded from the net is already named 'bootanimation.zip' you do not need to re - rename it. (That was obvious, wasn't it ?).
Also you could also rename the file using root explorer and not neccesarily using the PC. Its really upto you.
If you want to download some bootanimations go HERE
P.S. My personal favourite is Transformer Bootanimation by aspee.
You can create your own bootanimations using this tool.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
BOOTSOUNDS
1) Ok, for this process you need a sound file, preferably a '.wav' file, but any will do ... You could download them from the net (Google ) or you could just choose any file from your PC, its really up to you.
2) Now you need to convert the sound file to a '.mp3' format..A fast and easy way to do this is by going out here and following the instructions on screen. You could also use any other audio converters but everyone has their own preference.
3) Change the name of the converted file to 'PowerOn.mp3' ('P' and 'O' capitalized)
eg: change the name from xxxxxxx.mp3 to PowerOn.mp3
4) Connect your Phone to the computer ,turn on usb mass storage and copy paste the file onto your sdcard. You can place it anywhere, but just remember to keep track of it. Turn of usb mass storage and disconnect.
5) Go to Root Explorer and move your file to system/sounds/lgeSounds (put it in the 'lgeSounds' folder). If a file with the same name already exists, replace it with the new file and move the old file onto your sdcard. (Thats your old bootsound)
6) Reboot
Your smiling, ain't you ? Enjoy the new bootsound.
FOR CYANOGENMOD USERS
1. Download this shell script here bootsnd.sh
2. Place it on the root of your SD card & then open Terminal & type the following
su
cd /sdcard
sh bootsnd.sh
3. Now by using a file manager program with R/W (Read/Write) go to the /system/bin in your phone & make sure the file has transfered over! It should say BOOTSOUND & have permissions set to rwxrwxrwx! for this I use Root Explorer or you can use File Manager once you have selected R/W
4. Before transferring your sound file over rename it on your pc, android_audio and make sure it is a .mp3 file. Transfer the sound file from your pc to the root of your SDcard. Now move your sound file you want to play when the phone boots to /system/media of your phone & rename it android_audio you will have to be in R/W mode! Typically fifteen seconds is plenty long and just perfect, however anything over 30 seconds will get cut off.
5. Reboot & enjoy your new BOOTSOUND B)

NOTES :
1) Yes. These animations do work on custom roms. You do not need to do anything else as stated elsewhere by other articles.
2) Always make a backup before doing new things.
3) If you still have a problem then you see that reply box below..Well yeah, fire away !
4) Utilize the THANKS button. That was made for a reason

Umm well..if you do have the 'lge sounds' folder then it will definitely work.
And yeah you dont neccesarily need to use your PC everytime..As long as your sound file is 'PowerOn.mp3' You're good to go !
Sometimes, instead of converting the file to mp3 format you could just rename your file to 'PowerOn.mp3' but I personally have experienced that only renaming the file doesn't work always i.e it works sometimes and sometimes doesnt..But converting AND renaming it is a sureshot method
Please tell me whether it works for your optimus V..

The method works for sure..I tried it on Mik'o Void which IS a CM ROM..
Make sure u convert the file to an mp3 format and also rename it to android_audio.mp3. Before using the terminal emulator to use the script, go to root explorer and click on mount r/w and you are good to go.

To start go to
/system/etc/unit.local.rc
and open it in the text editor. Delete everything from
###Bootsound - Safe to Delete: Start###
to
###Bootsound - Safe to Delete: Stop###
Delete any instances of it.
Next go to /system/bin/ and delete the file bootsound.
Now go to /system/build.prop and open it in the text editor. Scroll all the way to the bottom and delete any instance of
ro.config.play.bootsound=1.
Now delete build.pro this is an error in the bootsound script. If you don't have this file don't worry about it.
Now open the bootsnd.sh file you downloaded and scroll to the bottom. Find the line that reads
echo ' ' >> /system/build.pro
and add a p at the end so it reads
echo ' ' >> /system/build.prop
and then save and exit.
Now open terminal emulator and type in:
su
cd /sdcard
sh bootsnd.sh
Now go to /system/bin/ and verify that the file bootsound was created and make sure it has full permissions.
If all is well place android_audio.mp3 in /system/media/ if it isn't there already. Reboot and enjoy your bootsound!

Well, the bootanimation is actually a series of PNG images which are displayed in quick succession. The fps actually depends majorly on the number of images.
If u wanna create ur own BAnim there are many threads on XDA for that matter.

[GUIDE]How to make a custom rom?Custom ROMs explained[UPDATE:20-3-2012]

Hey Guys,
I am going to explain some of the files in a custom rom,the small and easy to mod files because the aim is to educate newbies and NOT advanced devs.
Ok,So,I have seen a lot of questions being asked nowadays about making custom roms. This guide is NOT about building a custom rom but about editing and modding it.I am doing this guide taking CM7 as base, not stock,so there might be differences between the roms you choose to mod. Also,I am prone to mistakes here and there. If i made any, please comment about it and i will remove it.Also, please feel free to give your suggestions about making this guide better
What you would need:
Notepad++
WinRar or any other zip/rar manager like 7zip or WinZip
If you want go advanced, you would also need these things
Cygwin
Smali/Baksmali
APK Multi tool or anything like that,i dont care
And most importantly,a brain and eyes(So,Dont ask me stupid questions like, how de fuk du i xtarct? and then in brackets, sorry for my english)
GUIDE:
So,first up,download a rom of your choice(Dont forget to get the permissions for modding from the developer) and extract it.When you extract it,you will see 2 folders and 1 file,it varies. It depends on the contents of the rom.
The folders are:
1.META-INF
2.system
The file:
1.boot.img
So,
Open up system and the first folder you are going to see is 'apps'.
As you already see, this is the place where all the apps go,for the history. You might also see some .odex files below the apps. So,if you remove an app,you should delete the odex file too.If you want to add an app, just drag and drop Take care not to delete each and every app you find, because each of them has their own functions. Also,if you delete contact.apk and replace it with a better dialer like Exdialer, you wont be able to add or delete contacts. So,there are some files better left alone.
If you want to know how to merge them, then use google, there are a lot of tutorials on deodexing. If you want to edit an app, then use APK multi tool, again please use google, lots of tuts on this one too.
Also, you will find an app here and its a main one, systemui.apk By editing systemui.apk, you can get transparent status bars, transparent notification bars, centre the clock.Things like that. The idea with which you edit Systemui.apk and framework-res.apk,thats how your rom is going to look like. These files handle the visual things and they are awesome too.For some systemui mods, refer HERE
Now,some apk files are lib-dependent,meaning,they need certain lib files to work,a few examples are,Swype keyboard, now, swype wouldnt work if this lib file is not included in the rom, libswypecore.so,so if you remove swype, remove this lib file also, because its just a wastage of space and it doesnt do anything.Another example is DSP Manager in Froyo,in GB,it works native,no need to add any applications, but in Froyo,if you add DSP Manager, there are a few lib files that you should add to get them to work.
Next, the 'bin' folder, this guide is aimed at the noobs,so nothing about this, this is a bit advanced stuff,so sorry.
Next up,the 'etc' folder. There are a lot of things that go here.I wont be going to full details for the moment because i am having exams,so no time. However,i will be explaining the easy to explain files.
One thing you will notice is the 'init.d' folder. If you want to add any script like LagFree v2,just put the files of the init.d folder in the script's folder here, nothing else. You dont need to copy any other files like META-INF.
Another file,is CHANGELOG-CM,just as the name suggests its a file giving you changelogs
Another file is NOTICE.html..Its just a file showing copyrights and all that stuff. You wouldnt need to edit that, would you?
Will add more about the other files soon
Next, the 'fonts' folder..You guys need an explanation for that??
Next,'framework' folder. Here you will find framework-res.apk(Obviously,duh...).I wont tell about any other file because this is aimed at new users, not advanced guys.Framework-res is where all the icons in notification bar are.The battery icons, they are all in framework. Also, lockscreen icons
go here..Most of the icons. If i have to start on anything. It would take me weeks, theres so much to write about framework. Also take care not to mess up the framework.Because its like the skeleton(thats what i know ) of a rom.If a framework is incorrectly configured, the rom wont boot. So,keep that in your mind always when you edit framework.
Next, the 'libs' folder,This guide is aimed at newbies,so not touching this part.
And comes 'media'..Most probably you will find 2-3 folders here.Audio,bootanimation.zip and wallpapers.
If you want to change the default, its in build.prop, not here,i will explain that later. If you need to add some audio, its just drag and drop, nothing much, just put them in the right folders, like alarms, ringtones and notifications
If you need to add wallpapers, reszie the pictures to 640x480,thats the resolution that works for ace. Also resize it to 107x80 and save it as another pic with a _small at the end.For eg,the default file is defaultwallpaper.jpg, you make another pic with 107x80 called defaultwallper_small.jpg.
Then, theres the bootanimation.zip..However way you change this thing.Always name it bootanimation. If you want to know how to make a boot animation, then refer freeyourandroid.com
Next up is 'tts' folder..Sorry but i dont know much about this folder.I think this folder contains the languages for the tts app but i am not sure about it.Same goes for 'usr' and 'wifi' folders. But since this thread is aimed at newbies,i dont think there wouldnt a point in writing them up anyway
Next up is build.prop file.Open it with notepad++...build.prop file is pretty self explanatory.
Here you can change the most basic things like the android version that setting shows..Wondered how people are making 2.3.4 look like 4.0.3 in settings??Its build.prop.Also,you can change what 'About phone' shows here.
Other things, you can change things like, how long your wifi scans, how much battery your phone saves while in sleep,Dalvik VM heapsize and default ringtones. If you are wondering what # stands for,it signifies that, that particular tweak is not running,so you can take out the # if its a tweak you like. You could also use it say things like,Additional build properties. You could make it #AdditionalBuildProperties and go to the next line and give your tweaks there. Some build.prop tweaks can be found in slaid480's thread in Galaxy Ace S5830 titled "[MOD]Build.prop tweaks for SGA" or you can go to freeyourandroid.com and find some tweaks there, however the tweaks listed there are universal,so practise caution when playing with build.prop
Now to boot.img..Theres an awesome guide about this in freeyourandroid.com Please have a look at it,because there are lots to write about this one. This is where Cygwin comes in,for instructions on unpacking and repacking and commands and info about boot.img, referHERE and HERE.My summarized version, boot.img is where you can replace kernels. This is where you can make those low-level changes
Then,to META-INF folder. You would find lots of folders here but the file that you would edit consistently is update script.Find it and open it with Notepad++..Unless you edited xbin and bin files, this is not hard to do..Just change around ui_print to what you like.Dont touch anything else if you dont know what you are doing. If you DID edit xbin or bin files, you would need to touch advanced things like symlink tagged ones(I had to give them some sort of a tag)
Updater-Script References and notes:
Now,the updater-script is not something that you should mess around with,a single line of error in the script could get you in trouble. You might also have heard these words,Amend and Edify and wondered what they are, well Edify is the language with which Updater-script is written, while Amend is the language with which Update-Script is written. Now,As far as i know,Ace does NOT support Update script,it just supports Updater-script,so if you are working with kitchen, dont forget to swap the files in META-INF with the the updater-script provided by ketut.kumajaya in Blackhawk thread. So,you should learn to study updater-script of roms and patches before you mess around with them, especially patches here...Now,for example,I made a GPS patch that replaces hw folder in CyanogenMod with my patch. Now,i tell the updater script to delete the hw folder in lib and make another one and put my files in there, you,a normal user will flash it and it would work, but a rom maker without seeing that i have told the updater script to delete hw folder, adds my lib files to the existing lib files, which causes the rom not to boot. So,study the updater-script of patches and see what they do before you jump in and start doing things your own way and mess things up.I will write down a few updater-script commands here and what they do for your convenience now. Here you guys go with it:
mount-mounts a filesystem
is_mounted-checks if a filesystem is mounted
unmount-Unmounts a filesystem
format-format a filesystem (duh..)
delete-Deletes a single file
delete_recursive-Deletes a folder and all of its contents
show_progress-Display flash progress
package_extract_dir-Extract all the files present in a directory to a specified directory
package_extract_file-Extract single file from directory to specified target
file_getprop-dont know much about this one
symlink-Unlinks any existing symbolic links before creating the new symbolic links.
set_perm-Sets permissions for a file,note you dont write rw-r-r here.Its the numbers,for example,for root access,you write 777(right?),not anything else
set_perm_recursive-Sets permissions for a full directory, for example,if you specified a folder, permissions for the folder and all files in it will be set.
getprop-This function returns the value of the property specified. This is used to query platform information from the build.props file.
write_raw_image-Writes a raw image into a partition
apply_patch-Applies patches to a directory -_- (dont you guys understand it just by reading that? )
apply_patch_check-Checks if a file can be patched or if they have been patched
apply_patch_space-Checks if there is enough space to apply a patch
read_file-Reads contents of a file
sha1check-If only data is specified, then the function returns the sha1_hex string of the data. The optional parameters are used if you want to verify that the file you are checking for is one of a list of hashes. It reutrns the hash it matches, or returns nothing if it doesn't match any of the mentioned hashses.
ui_print-It outputs a message to the users while flashing. So,if you see something like 'This is so awesome',know that its not such a big deal and that its just a line of editing here
run_program-Runs a program
ifelse-This is the if-then construct of the Edify scripting language. The truecondition or falsecondition arguments can be a single edify command or a script block. Script blocks can be formed by enclosing the parameter with parenthesis, and seperating the commands with semicolons
abort-duh..it aborts script execution
assert-If condition evaluates to false, stops script execution, otherwise continues processing.
Thats it,dont worry after seeing all these commands. You wont see them all in most of the roms. Here is a list of commands that you usually see in a updater-script.
ui_print
mount
unmount
delete
delete_recursive
package_extract_directory
symlink
show_progress
set_perm
set_progress
set_perm_recursive
getprop
run_program
assert
Now on making it a flashable zip, archive them to a zip file.Get a signer here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6050996&postcount=2
NOTE:Signing is not necessary
The instructions on using that are given with it.Just rename it back to the name you like after signing it.
Thanks to everyone.Especially, freeyourandroid,XDA and TeamCooper and all members of XDA developers and to me (well, you are the one who does that, remember that button Jk )
Hope this helped you guys..Again,this is a thread aimed at educating the new members, not advanced guys.Sorry if i missed anything or made a mistake..Please give me suggestions on this too. Will add more info to this thread when i have the time[/SIZE]

i got what he is trying to say.
he is saying that due to rom building guides noobs will also learn how to build custom rom but they may not have that knowledge skills to make a distinguished ROMS they will be building common roms with little or no difference, difference will be only that different people will release rest things will be kind of same only no drastic changes.
hope i am right

Nice work, thank you
If you have time, can you please post a guide on how to sign APK files?
For example, if i want to edit an icon of an app, i change the icon in the .apk but then i have to sign it, how can i do it?
On the net i found lots of guides and programs but none of them worked for me...
Anyway good work

Transparent statusbar...!!! Guide needed!!!

I'm [12.Aug.2012] NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.6 (Kernel: tytung_HWA_r3.4) And tried hard for a mod to make its statusbar transparent...!!!:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
Followed this guide but failed as it resulting no statusbar at the end.
Please can anybody guide us(noobs) with a proper tutorial for systemUI.apk mods for our leo???
Been looking for one as well, always end up stuffing mine up.
I'm not sure which guide you followed but you can try this one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20654552&postcount=3
And if you are looking for different mods in general check out the SGN Themes&Apps section http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1340
It's way more active when it comes to mods&themes compared to the HD2 section (Which consists mostly of Questions and Disscusions anyway )

You were right, this guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1523703 works well.
I actually never sign SystemUI.apk nor framework-res.apk, never had a problem with that, so you can skip that part.
Try APK Multi-Tool - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310151
and don't forget to drop framework-res.apk into Apk_Multi-Tool\other
next open Command prompt and navigate to that folder
type
Code:
apktool if framework-res.apk
and you should be ready to de- and recompile.
Attached is 100% transparent and 50% transparent. (have not tested 50% though)
Flash in recovery.
grumbles
im trying to figure this out for the rom in my sig which is a jb rom
but that guide did help me at all lol
none of the code matched up
Thanks those two mods worked, thanks.

Thanks man I'll definitely try with this & let you know & many thanks for the modded zips(till I learn how to manipulate SystemUI.apk successfully my leo can enjoy it!:highfive::highfive::highfive! Thanks again.!
I found this guide too...!!! :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/31785-co...ng-and-recompiling-jb-systemuiapk-jelly-bean/
& managed to compile the SystemUI.apk but still it results in absent status bar in either way of following
1. Replacing the original SystemUI.apk in the ROM with the modded one & installing the ROM(Tried both signed & unsigned versions)
2. After installing the original ROM & later replace the SystemUI.apk with the modded one with root explorer (Tried signed version)
But when I Edit the permission(with root explorer) of the modded SystemUI.apk copied to the system folder (As in 2nd method), as for other system apps it worked. :cyclops::laugh::laugh::laugh:
I cant understand in which step I made things wrong! In which step we manage permissions of an app while decompiling, compiling or modding.!
It'd be nice if somebody can direct me right.! Love to learn from XDA...!!!

Unfortunately, there's still no hack on CM10 ...the .smali files (that need to modify) isn't exist in JB.
It's rather easy on CM9. Here's the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1523703

Permissions are set in the AndroidManifest.xml. (in the root folder of the decompiled apk)
Sometimes, if an app is asking for "wierd" permissions which i/it doesn't need i just delete those lines from that file.
But in your case, i don't know what happend.

Sorry Kameirus
but i can't help you with that either, i guess you would be better off downloading the jellybean source
and try to mod it that way or wait until somebody else does.
I don't think that those "smalis" don't exist, they are just named differently
and overall just different since it's a new android version.
My guess would be, if you want to add transparency you might want to look at:
SystemUI.apk\smali\com\android\systemui\statusbar\BaseStatusBar.smali
If you are going to learn a bit about smali, you could try Virtuous Ten Studio - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619473
It makes smali's a bit easier on the eye and has a nice smali-guide within.

i saw that smali a little while ago when i was going thru the folders
ill look at it later after i get home
thanks for the tip
well no luck lol
but i did learn how to flash a backup blindfolded lmao
Ok I think I figured out whats the problem is with my compiling...!!!
When you run the compile it ask to replace every thing that not modified from the original. I chose "yes" earlier all the time! But when I select "no"
I could get a working SystemUI.apk even without zipaligning or signing.! :cyclops::cyclops::cyclops:

[Solved] Except the stock one other themes not working on rooted device

HUAWEI P8
First off, my huge thanks going to @somboons as he has apparently found the way to make it for Huawei Mate 8. So I am taking no credits for this. To me this is just fantastic as that has been a real pain for me to "live" without any other additional themes and I didn't want to change the launcher.
All you need to do is to create a folder
hw_init in /data then subfolder hw_init/system/themes
make sure to set permissions to rwxrwxr-x
All themes you download please move to created /data/hw_init/system/themes
set the permissions to rw-r--r-- and you're done, reboot, enjoy.
Don't forget that themes you normally download are being stored on your SDcard in HWThemes folder.
And they do not come with originial name, but eg like 12345660002333.hwt (originally it e.g. was called Starrysky)
So rename it to the name you found it with and move onto the /data/hw_init/system/themes and reboot
For further details please head over to the original @somboons's thread.
