I generally do not have an issue with network connections. However when at my home most apps do not like to work. I know that I am connected and the Internet connection is working because I can use either the stock Browser or Chrome and surf the Internet just fine.
A few of the apps that are affected:
Facebook - text will load but pictures and videos may or may not
Youtube - I can search but may not be able to play back get a network connection error
Several games that require Internet to work
And several others
Apps that work just fine:
Chrome
Internet Browser
iHeart Radio
Gmail
Email
I have removed and re added my home network - no change
Rebooted phone - no change
Rebooted router - no change
Tried a different router w/ different settings -no change
Set router to fill open network - no change.
Turned off the 5gHz band - no change
I can go to other Wifi connection and it works just not on my home network.
This didn't start until I used Towel root but now I can't seem to unroot
Attached is a screen shot of my system info

i dont know if anyone can help me with this or i am just being thick and its allready possible to do, but i am having a horrible time with setting up my applications and using the internet.
I use quite a few applications that ask for either a network (Resco for acessing my files on my computer) and also the internet (mail, PIE etc).
i cant seem to strike a balance between these programs and the possible connections (Wi-fi / gprs), if i set up my internet connection as a proxy with the deatils for my acess point at home then i can get my files on my comp and acess to the internet. but as soon as i leave the bubble of my home then everything goes haywire.
is there a way to set up a hieracy and advanced rules for what connections to use for what programs and when? and possibly an option to ask before dialing a gprs connection?
any help would be great
thanks all
I got my 8525 almost 24 hours ago and I still haven't been able to connect to the internet. I have combed just about every thread on the net I could find on this subject and still haven't been able to use the wifi for even a second.
So far I've tried:
* removed media net
* removed my isp
* disabled proxy in proxy manager
* adjusted power save mode to best performance
* changed from dynamic ip's to static
* tried numerous kinds of router security (WEP, WPA, etc.)
* added DNS addresses to device
* disabled router security all together
* updated router firmware
At first all I could see on my device was the wireless network name...each time I clicked connect it just displayed "available". Eventually I managed to get it to connect to the network, but I still can't get a single web page to come through on internet explorer. Each time I punch in a website and hit enter, it just displays "Locating..." in the status bar, and eventually pops up with a message saying "This page cannot be found...".
PLEASE advise!!
* I'm running Windows XP/WM6, wireless router: Linksys WRT54G
setting->connections->connections->adavanced-select network
try setting both dropdownboxes to my network rather then
my isp or whatever yours are called
Thanks, but they're already set like that
sounds like a setting issue somewhere

good reads
you may have to clear the device to make sure that things / settings you changed or deleted which was required
dont cause issues
also as test you can see if you can get internet using activesync overbluetooth
if so you are 1 step closer to knowing where the issue is located
You may also want to try this out:
http://rapidshare.com/files/42598341/wpbear_Proxy_Folders.cab
The original link is here (kudos to wpbear for all his work) but there are a ton of links in that post. AT&T REALLY REALLY wants you to use their data plan so they include a hidden proxy. The cab above will install shortcuts to enable and disable the proxy.
You can use the search link in my sig line to search for 'hermes enable proxy', 'hermes diable proxy', 'hidden proxy', etc. if you're interested in the back story.
BTW, after you install the cab, you want to click the 'Disable Proxy' shortcut. That may have been abundantly clear to you already but just in case...
Thanks for all the help so far. I'm getting online through activesync, but not feeling any closer to the wifi working. I tried using Fitipaldi1's cab file, but it just says failed to install. Is it not the same thing as the "disable proxy" anyway? I also looked through the threads, but didn't find any solutions.
This is getting ridiculous. I paid a lot of money for this phone and I can't even get it to do what I need it to. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
What about updating the rom? Mine is 3.62.502.3
Try this ...
I'm using Schap's 4.31 ROMs and have to do nothing special (it's a wonderful ROM). I know that in Windows Mobile 6, our 8525's should be able to access 802.11g by default, but maybe your's is disabled.
I do not have a dataplan either, but access everything via WiFi. I know for a fact that I am accessing wireless routers @ work that are configured as "G Only" devices.
A last bit of advice is that you could check your LinkSys and see if it is configured as "G only" or Mixed Mode. Maybe as a test, you might want to change it to Mixed Mode and then see if it connects. If it does connect in Mixed Mode, then you need to change your Registry settings to connect to 802.11g's.
I hope this helps!
I just installed BlackBerry Connect v4.0.0.104 on my Raphael and it works great. I am recieving my mails and can browse the net through the Internet Explorer but all other applications which require internet access such as Opera, Weather, IMs, etc. have stopped working.
I went to Settings -> Connection -> Connections and it was empty even though my phone showed it was connect to EDGE (small E on top of the signal bars). I then created a new connection with my carrier's APN settings and connected it. I was then able to use all the other applications but the blackberry service got suspended.
From what I understand the BlackBerry Connect application connects directly to the blackberry server without creating a dialer in Settings -> Connection -> Connections so even though its already connected the non-blackberry applications think there is no connection.
Secondly if I create a new connection it disconnects the blackberry connection.
I want to know if anyone has figured out a solution for this. Is there a way to create a proxy to link to the blackberry service or something?
Thanks in advance.

You should be able to enable multiple simultaneous APN connections. I have done this on my Kaiser and use BlackBerry Connect. I must admit though I have never been able to use IE over the BBC APN connection when using the 'BlackBerry Browser'. I assumed this just set some Proxy settings?

I apologize for being so hasty. I tried your suggestion and it works even without 3G. Thanks.
I thought that simultaneous connections were not possible with just EDGE but I was wrong.

Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\RIL\OperatorContex
There you will find several numbers. E.g. 26202 for Vodafone in Germany.
The number is a combination of MCC / MNC so 262 02. You might find you operator in this list:
http://surfio.de/info/mcc_mnc/mcc_mnc_liste_6.html
What happens is if your operator is not in this list there will be a key created with no contend. I inserted in there by copying from one of the others:
GPRSContextNumber = 3
UMTSContextNumber = 3
This is the source for the value of NetworkContexts in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Cellular\RIL\
Just set the Contexts value to 3 and delete the NetworkContexts entry. It will be created from the source above with the value 3.
I am so happy that I finally found that out. That was such a pain for a long time. Hope that helps some others as well.
Thanks to luiggi who gave me the final hint in his thread:

I've been using my phone at work where we have lousy cell signal and no wifi, so I connected my phone through bluetooth. When I went home, it stopped updating weather, and Opera gave me a proxy error. I fixed Opera by deleting its proxy settings from about:config but can't find the settings for TF3D. All other programs work without issues.

Forgot to mention that I'm trying to connect through ATT Medianet with their automatic settings on my Pure that I can't change.
Install this cab, it will remove the proxy settings and make sure both networks are set to MediaNet.
You will be able to tether as well w/o paying for tethering.
i'm having the strangest problem, my browser cant connect using mobile internet, but it works perfect on wifi. opera works fine via mobile or wifi, so does market. i've read some similar forums which suggest the problem is in proxy settings, which i cant find.
i've tried reflashing prety much everything, so any suggestion would be most appreciated.
edit:
i figured it works in stock rom, but doesnt work in cm or wildpuzzle. i did a format od system/data/cache/sd and it still doesnt work. i tought it had sth to do with google backup (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867143), but it doesnt seem so, because it still didnt work after clean install wothout syncing to google at all.
is there any similar config tool in android btowser to about:config in mozilla?

found the problem...
it was the proxy in apn what caused trouble. but it was way stupid situation. 1stly, apns are auto downloaded from network in my case, and as such i treated them as correct. and 2dly, i tried to clear that exact same proxy before, but it didnt cross my mind i have to reboot when i changed something as simple.
the cause of some apps still working and others didnt was probably that the ones which worked didnt use proxy at all.
anyways, problem solved, me happy. thanks for help...
I replied to a similar problem on this forum some time ago. Maybe it would apply to other people having similar issues.
was having a similar problem yesterday after I upgraded the OS on my phone.
Let me describe what I am using:
HTC Glacier with Cyanogen 7 ROM including Google Apps.
I installed TransProxy 3.08beta and a few other applications, made some config changes, enabled / disabled proxy a few times and later on the browser application that was included with the ROM would not connect to 3G data. It was working fine on WiFi. However Opera worked fine on either. Also other apps like market worked fine.
This is what fixed it for me:
1. Disable proxy in TransProxy
2. Create a shortcut for system proxy settings on home screen:
long press on home screen > custom shortcut > pick your activity > activities > settings > Proxy Settings(.ProxySelector)
3. Open proxy settings using the shortcut
4. Clear settings using 'Clear' button
5. Save
After this the browser started connecting to 3G data.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Proxy is a host through which you can access a particular network (in this case internet) from your device. Your device can be a phone or a pc or a tablet or anything that needs to connect to this network. If proxy settings are configured on your phone then the phone will always try to access the internet through that proxy host, even if direct connection is possible. After clearing those proxy settings, my problem was resolved.
