NST won't connect to B&N - Nook Touch General

After rooting and re-rooting ½ dozen different NST I find that sometimes after rooting I'm no longer able to access the B&N storefront, whether to browse or download purchased content. I can't seem to find any common denominator, different kernels, installed apps, it just seems random, the only solution that I've found is to revert back to the original nandroid that was made right after rooting and starting from there. Has anyone else experienced this and if so how did you go about correcting it? TIA OB

Does this mean that you get a flash screen when you try to open Shop.apk?
Is this device assuredly registered with B&N already?

You're not copying the same /rom partition to multiple Nooks, are you?
If you are blasting 1.9G images to Nooks, that's what you are doing.

To answer you both, the nooks have been registered and working fine within the B&N ecosystem, however after awhile of trying different apps and settings I lose the ability to communicate with :B&N, on every device to be able to restore connectivity I flashed a nandroid backup specific to that device. It just seems to randomly stop connecting and the only way to rectify it is to go back in time with the nandroid. Which is much simpler than me originally going back to stock and rerooting the device. I wish I could narrow it down because I have quite a few gift cards from relatives, even if I purchased them on my pc I have no way to download them to the Nook itself. If anyone has any ideas I'm up for testing. TIA

So what is ACTUALLY happening when you try to, let's say, open the shop?

The sync button rotates a couple of times then all of the panes are blank, if I try from the home screen I get a generic error message that something went wrong and to try again. Happens on the home screen, library and the storefront. :banghead:

Boo. I don't really want to tell you this (because it's a hassle), but back when I was a newbie with hacking and such, I had that problem, too, and I had to do the interrupted-boot reset to fix it.

Why would it be a hassle, there's a much better way to get back to factory stock, just hold down the lower page turn buttons while powering up the device, after a few seconds you'll get a prompt asking if you wish to reset the device. No more 8 failed boot attempts before you could reset.

It's not the same process. You can also boot with NookManager and do the factory reset offered there, as it makes the Nook think that it has been unsuccessfully booted 8 times in order to get the actual factory IMAGE to restore.
I'm signing off now. Bye.

my a500 has a bad habit of going to a blank screen after the Acer logo.
I have to use a clip to do a hard reset to reboot it.
After that the Android screen comes up after the Acer logo.
What is going on??

How long does the black screen last? Have you ever tried waiting it out? How long does it stay that way before you reset it?
If it gets stuck, that is definitely not normal and I would do a factory reset, 2x if necessary. If it still happens after that? Exchange or send it for repair because that shouldn't be happening.
FYI, this same thing happens to me after i rooted and added CWM but tried to boot with no SD card installed. May not be the same as what you are doing, but i thought it was worth sharing.

I left it on for 10 minutes and it was still a blank screen.
I should mention this device was rooted.
Would that be a factor?
I'm experieng this since yesterday. A501 with stock rom rooted with IconiaBreak. Hard resetting fixes it.
Update: unrooting fixes the issue, it seems. Can someone confirm?
It would be easy to point fingers at a custom ROM being the culprit but since nobody is using one then it's tough to diagnose.
If a hard reset fixes it, I would reexamine the apps you're installing and avoid using 'bad' apps from 'questionable' places. You can start by only loading up approved and confirmed working apps from the marketplace. If the problem doesn't come back then you can test by installing your 'other' apps and testing - you might find the offender.
I don't see how rooting can have this effect.

It seems a lot strange to me too, but I had no root applications, just Superuser.apk... Later I will try to root it again and see if the problem comes back. By the way, could the device being an A501 instead of an A500 be a factor?

HTC T Mobile MT4G Needs help

MMMMMMMMMMMTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT444444444444444444444444444444444444GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

OK, so here is where my T Mobile MT4G is at:
Had the phone since November 2010. Sole user. Never dropped, or wet.
S=ON.
I purchased a new battery last month as thought this may have been part of the problem.
Phone started acting weirdly, apps freezing, pone freezing, not working correctly and rebooting out of nowhere.
Decided to attempt reset, full factory reset. Could not do so via the phone or via the vol down power on method either.
After a few weeks of negotiating, because the phone is out of warranty, HTC customer service (Thanks guys!) gave me the PD15IMG file. I loaded it onto a formatted SD card.
Uchecked FASTBOOT.
I was able to use the battery out, re-install battery, vol down and power button to allow the new ROM to load from the SD card, which it seems to do, that is, all files, but the first TP file which is "bypassed".
Then when asked to hit the power button to reboot, the screen freezes on the T Mobile MY screen.
If after say 20 minutes, I remove the battery to reboot, doing it this way instead, all apps and previous settings are still in place and the phone is still more or less inoperative. The new ROM is not installed. Go figure.
Messages from various apps keep popping up indicating that Andriod app this or that is not functioning correctly.
I never dropped the phone or got it wet. It looks great, only does not work correctly.
I suspect part of the problem may be apps (guilty as charged for having too many apps) that may be conflicting and I can not even manually delete the apps as they constantly reappear, no matter what. Tried this many times.
This has happened repeatedly. For well over a month.
I can not factory reset from within the phone either (Phone and SD Card > Factory reset).
The factory reset seems to take place yet the phone when and if it reboots only reboots to the most previous state, it certainly is not reset.
I downloaded the full wipe software (FULL_WIPE_1.5_EXT4_DS), and am unsure how to use it.
I am tired.
Here's my proposition:
Am willing to send the phone to anyone who thinks he or she can get it working. I'm a 64 year old guy and will offer up to $50.00 if the phone can be returned to a fully functioning default state in whatever rom you choose. I will pay return shipping cost (via USPS) too. I know this is not much, but I am fearing the phone may be fried, or not!
Personally I am looking for a non app rom, like virtuous unity 2.2, (with S=OFF, naturally) and will settle for the HTC rom of PD15IMG (S=ON) at the very least.
I have spent too many hours on this and my son also has spent many hours attempting to get the phone working in the pristine state.
Any thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated.
Cordially,
Robert

[Q] Restoring my Nook?

It has been years since I rooted my nook simple touch. I can't remember which method was used and I don't have any of the software I used anymore. Moreless I have been out of the loop in the NST development. My nook does some weird things now like the market not working, sometimes the screen becomes unresponsive. but ultimately I don't need it rooted anymore and would just like to bring it back to factory. I saw some methods for doing this, but people are reporting that it's not true factory, some android features are still being left behind.
My question is what's the latest news on bringing my nook back to true factory like out of the box?
It reports I am using version 1.1, my model is BNRV300, serial is 3012930063033003.
Thank you,
SeeingBlue

I was rooted and had hacked around in the /system partition quite a bit for a year and then I just did method 3 a couple weeks ago. You hold the side buttons about 20 seconds. More convenient than rebooting 6 or 8 times.
It restores a full factory image, nothing missing. You do lose all data and settings from the built in memoery. Sdcard is untouched. You have to register the device again but it's painless.
Then you can immediately update to the current 1.2.1 firmware using any of the normal official ways. Updates are also full OS images, nothing missing. I don't know what peole are talking about if they say otherwise.

device keeps shutting down

No matter what battery i have left, if i leave the tablet with the screen off for any length of time (half hour say), the tablet seems to die?
To start it again, i have to long press the power button and the device reboots.
Does anyone know why? Its only started since recent updates.
My N10 is not rooted, and running 5.0.1.
Any help would be appreciated.
I guess no one else has this issue?
I literally go back ten minutes after using the N10, and it has shut down. Only a long press to reboot will bring it back?
Frustrated

I just bought/ordered a Nexus 10 so I might as well come in here and start talking to people about it. lol
I haven't used a Nexus 10 before but it should be like any other Nexus device. If your tablet is turning off on it's own, first off, pray it isn't hardware related. Hopefully some hardware inside isn't failing on you. But to make sure it isn't software related, I would say use the factory images and do a fresh install. This will set anything that is out of wack straight. If its software related, it will fix it.
Cheers for the reply.
Do you mean a factory reset, and I will lose all my saved stuff?
I'm not very clued up tbh, and only ever update the Nexus when notified.

It's not just a simple factory reset that you do in the settings or recovery. It will wipe your device (Internal storage and all) but it wipes everything including all system files and reflashes everything back to the way you got it out of the box. If you had a software issue and sent it in to get fixed, they would most likely do this. Its safe if you read up on it and know what you are doing. Google gives us the factory images for this reason. Here is an article for instructions. Not used to the Nexus 10 forums so I don't know if they have a dedicated thread for this:
http://www.androidbeat.com/2013/11/flash-factory-image-nexus-device/
I'm sure there are some videos on YouTube explaining in depth on how to do it as well. You might want to watch them and get familiar with the process. It's not that hard once you have everything you need to do it. Just back up everything onto your computer, flash the images and put everything back onto your tablet when done.
Thanks very much. I'll have a read up on that and give it a go.
My tablet used to do that. I've had this tablet since I pre-ordered it on initial release (so it's old!) It would also freeze/reboot at times, especially using any browser, so I naturally thought it was a browser problem. But, it would also occasionally do as you describe, wouldn't turn on unless I did a hard reset - holding power button 15-20 seconds or so. I'm also rooted so I started trying different roms. Finally, I flashed the 10.18 release of AOKP. It's beautiful & runs perfect. I've not had ANY, not a single issue & have been running it since last October. I don't think I'll ever change anything from here on. That's just my personal experience.

Galaxy S5 Randomly Corrupted

Monday morning my device working great. Then randomly my finger print scanner stopped working. I also noticed my SD card is no longer working, says it's corrupted and asking to format. I now have to access my phone via a pattern and for some reason it is VERY slow to show the screen after pressing the power/home buttons. I cannot install any applications, and alerts me my device is running out of storage even though there is 500MB+ remaining. It's now also very slow in response.
I tried checking the finger print scanner settings but alerts me that and error has occurred and to restart the device. - doesn't work..
I've had my device for two years and never has an issues.
Device is rooted but still has stock.
Model: SM-G900P
Kernal: 3.4.0-9634333
Android Version: 4.4.2
Software Version: G900PVPU1ANCB
I also want to mention that I got a text message the other day saying that I'm eligible for an upgrade from Sprint... Day later phone starts acting up. I'm sure restoring the phone or installing a custom rom might fix this, but I'm wondering what would cause this.
Thanks
Try booting into recovery and clearing the caches, often cures random problems like that
500Mb is not a lot... I would back up your SD contents, format it like its asking, then put your backup back on it, low space would certainly explain the lag and what not, not too sure about the fingerprint scanner though.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately that didn't work.
Perhaps it is some sort of virus or malicious attack on my device?

Didn't install anything. Really just use my phone for text, email, and calling. It's really bizarre. I think I'll just have to back up and restore or get a rom.
Thanks for the response.
