Sorry for the noob question, but Im a long term Blackberry user just switched to the N1...
Question about rooting. If I root the N1, understanding that once you root you can not "unroot", if I use a custom Rom but prefer to go back to the factory one, is that possible, or how do I do so ? also,
On custom Roms like Cyangen, can one still download updates from Google ? (ex. version 2.xxx with flash when it comes out) ?
thanks
You can unroot, you just can't relock your bootloader ATM.
Do a search in the development section and you'll find posts about how to flash everything back to stock. The only difference is you'll always have that little unlocked padlock at the bottom of your boot screen.
Typically you don't see updates from Google with a modded firmware, but you see updates from the ROM developer all the time.
Cool, thanks for the info...
So once rooted, if I do want to return to factory settings, I would just install the HTC N1 Rom as if I installed any other Rom, and everything would be back to factory ( except for bootloader ), enabling me to get OTA updates, etc...
I've heard with custom Rom's, people have had trouble with 3G or network/radio issues, and being in Canada, little nervous about that since the N1 was just released here.
Thanks
I don't know about all that in Canada, but you're best bet is to try the various ROM's (Cyanogenmod preferred), and then test different radios with those ROM's. It'll give you a better opportunity to find a radio that works for you in your area, considering there hasn't been an official radio update released through Google's channels.
I'm pretty new to all this too but to get OTA updates again, from google, I think you need the stock recovery too (ie: not Amon_Ra recovery).
i do miss the iphone for that reason press restore in itunes and its back to as it was out of the box ,this baby is a lot more tricky
I don't mean to turn this into an iPhone comparison thread so please don't take my comment as such, but NOT being forced to used iTunes to handle everything is much preferred for me, even if things aren't as straightforward. That said, as someone who obviously doesn't use iTunes, doing anything with the Nexus One wasn't as difficult because I didn't need to install any alternative media software just to get the phone working.
Finally about to take the plunge and root...Question is where do I find the factory N1 Rom ( stock Rom ) if I decide to switch back ( maybe when flash is released ).
Also, read that you can back up your existing Rom during the root process...Is the back-up a secondary app to install or included in the .zip packages that are needed to root ? how is the back-up done ?
thanks

You seem to only want flash - you do know, that features presented in OTA releases usually make their way into custom ROMS before or a few hours (at least a day) after the OTA. Himem (the ability to use all the RAM) is already out in mostly all ROMS, way before Google is releasing it - along with trackball colors.
Really, you don't need to worry..

Well flash was just an example...my only concern is that I could be one of the
unlucky ones that experience problems after I root and install a Rom, so just the thought of having a stock Rom on hand is piece of mind.
Also, being in Canada on Rogers, just curious how my 3G ( radio ) will react to it.
I'm on Rogers too and still waiting to see if my phone is problem free before rooting. Let me know how it turns out when you take the plunge
I'm on Fido (essentially the same band/frequency as Rogers), Cyanogenmod 5.0.5.3 (latest version at this time), and I'm having no problems with the 3G connection whatsoever. No dropped calls, no switching to EDGE randomly or anything. Never flashed a different radio or anything.
I did have to manualy enter my APN info in order to get my data connection working, however (no biggie, just type in some info). I had to do that even straight out of the box, so it's not a custom ROM issue.
Hello XDA! I'm wanting to get back into using a rootted phone. In fact, I already have rooted my note 3.
I really want to get into a custom ROM, to remove some bloatware, and to be able to theme the system fully.
I previously had a samsung galaxy fascinate (telus) that I had rooted, and I had tried to get a custom ROM on it. Turns out though that I may had messed up! My phone was soft bricked. So I got a dongle made up for me, re-flashed froyo and got rollin again, However I was afraid to try to flash a custom rom. I used it for a year and a half on stock after that, and then decided to try to flash it again. I again had messed up the process, (I think Odin hates my PC). I ended up with a boot looped phone.
Now that I have my note 3, I'm loving it. However I don't want to have to deal with TouchWiz.
My question to you, xda. Is, what is currently involved in getting into a custom ROM on the note 3?
Is there a guide to getting started with this kind of stuff. My phone is rooted, but I have no custom recovery (I'm not sure how to do that).
I'm tempted to just wait for cyanogenmod for the note 3 as it seems to be very popular (and probably would have better support documentations). However If there is a reasonably simple alternative I can get a new rom soon.
Thanks a lot for reading this wall of text, and apologies if this gets asked frequently. I'm just terrified of losing my precious new phone
I'm using a SM-N900W8 from sasktel

here is a list of custom recoverys download your one for your phone and flash with odin http://galaxynote3root.com/clockworkmodtwrp-recoveries/
It's all quite a simple process really , just make sure you follow any guide precisely.
Is there another PC you are able to use if you think the culprit is your own PC ?
I'd also recommend the Note - X- Rom very nice Themes, Battery, Performance boost.
all the best with your flashing Remember to always Backup your EFS and do a Nandriod backup before anything ! :good:
My edit is that this thread is extemely outdated so alot of this information is bad now use with a grain of salt, i recommend looking at more recent threads.
As the G3 just became free on a 2 year plan from many Canadian carriers I decided to start a come here first thread that includes everything you need to know for the Canadian version, mostly because i myself found it hard to get going as there are so many variants and not alot of clear info as to what is supported and which roms are stable (there aren't any stable roms yet except stock KK/L.
I take no credit for any of this work just trying to organize some info.
Youtube video that shows how to get stump root and install bumped twrp
1st things first... ROOT.
Available rooting options for the D852:
- Stump - Suggested Method no computer required one click method - Verified working on KitKat (the method i used)
- Purpledrake - Verified working on KitKat. Have not tried this myself but several reports of this method working
- IORoot/towelroot - not known if these methods are working if anyone has tested please drop a message
2nd things 2nd... TWRP Recovery. thanks to the BUMP team Codefire.
- I used flashify to backup original recovery and flash the recovery listen above. I THINK the d852 is for bell and rogers and the d852g is for videotron.. i couldn't find reliable info to confirm this but i can confirm the file: twrp-2.8.0.0_d852-signed.img seems to be working on my bell version of the G3 although I haven't started flashing roms yet because from what i have been reading about the custom roms available for the 852, they aren't stable, and aren't better than the stock rom YET. (this should change very soon Candy, Validus and CM12 are making good progress towards stable versions). Right now though, they all have bugs with some basic functionality.
Recoveries:
Latest TWRP 2.8.3 with modem support
Roms:
-Solution for returning to stock ROM for Rogers or Bell (kdz available for both versions)
-Nothing custom yet that i'm convinced is stable enough to run as a main rom; only a bunch of roms in development that you can try if want to be a bug reporter/beta tester.
-Here is a link to some organized info on these development/beta versions
Working Mods:
-App for changing kernel settings (free version but also a paid version available) Trickster Mod Settings (once you find stable settings you like make sure to check set on boot or you'll lose settings after reboot)
-Thermal throttling mod (does not remove throttling just makes it slightly less restrictive; more info on the main thread.)
-RAM Management MOD (will give you slightly more RAM for multitasking)
-Xposed Framework installer (click show older versions and use 2.6.1 (worked alot better for me than the experimental build))
-LG G3 Tweakbox Module (everything worked that i tried but did not try every single feature only most of them) xda thread
-SD Card Fix app that will allow more programs to write to external sdcard folders that don't belong to it. (like pre kit-kat)
-Sixaxis Controller (PS3 Controller via bluetooth) mod. This mod has never worked for my other phones stock rom, but works on g3! there is a compatibility checker to test before buying paid version. check the act as android gamepack and enable in language and input to be able to use this app with most emulators.
-Remove OTA software update notification on stock roms.
- this handle little widget allows you to switch out to a custom launcher but keep the double tap on homescreen to turn off screen feature that works so well with knock code to unlock. the only catch is that you have to have a transparent widget in the location that you want to tap to turn off screen. (on my homescreen wallpaper i have a waterfall so i put it on the waterfall so i tap the waterfall to turn screen off)
- I highly recommend APEX LAUNCHER, i've tried almost every launcher out there IMO it's by far the best.
If you have a project or work you think should be included in the 852 repository please pm me or link your work; if it's stable and functional I will add it. If i made any mistakes let me know so i can fix, I've had the phone for a few days and by no means am I an expert, just trying to organize info and start a repository to get the ball rolling for people who are going to get this phone for Christmas or the near future.
A BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HELPS DEVELOP THE D852.
Build.prop tweaks (i recommend using build.prop editor from playstore to do these, if you manually edit it and make mistakes can cause bootloop (also possible if you put bad values into build.prop editor))
ro.sf.lcd_density=560 (this will give you more visible space on your screen, since the screen is massive i like this option) (on a smaller screen it would make things too small)
(default value is 640, obviously if you want to try a medium settings put in a value inbetween these too like 600)
persist.splitwindow.support_all=true (enable all apps in splitwindow mode)
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=150 (this is the amount of time between wifi scans in seconds, larger number will slightly increase battery life but take longer to find new networks without manual scan)
there are also lots more that i'm not going to put here because most of the other ones aren't phone specific (ie like the wifi one the same settings can be used on any phone)
reserved.
current highest antuntu benchmark : 40286 (with only the thermal throttling mod and stock kitkat)
if you change io sced to ondemand and gov to performance u can get 44000, battery life will drop a bit tho - trickster mod settings is a good app for this (free version available)
bump because several mods were added
Has anyone successfully applied Hello00 kitkat 4.4.2 theme mods to the D852? I tried both the dialer and the settings mods and they sent my phone into a bootloop... I tried on Cloudy 1.2 and stock ROM.

Hi
I got my lg g3 from koodo lollipop 5.0.1
Rooting was tricky but worked by this new method.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3129197
I tried cm12.1, exodus-5.1, Mk5.1, Tesla-5.1. However I am on Cloudyg3-2.5 right now.
Unable to install xposed and I need help as you mentioned you were able to use almost all of the functions of G3 tweakbox.
When I tried installing it, I did as shown in most tutorials that installed the latest xposed-installer.apk then open grant root permission and then click on the warning and then click on framework and then click install button but the thing is that install button is not active and on some that I also tried older version it is disabled and the it says disabled manual only by recovery.
I tried flashing through recovery xposed-v74-sdk21-x86.zip but I got error saying error executing updater binary in zip. I checked through build.prop it says ro.build.version.sdk=21, ro.product.cpu.abi=armeabi-v7a.
Also installed xpi.apk but no use.
When I use g3 tweakbox it requires xposed and the error is enable module in xposed.
When open xposed it say it is currently not active. did you install the framework and reboot.
A little confused. Can you help.
I'm using fido with lg g3 D852.My question is, I have rooted my phone and i want to unroot it.So will I be able to unroot it using this method?

Is there no Telus rom? I know with fido you can just install the Rogers rom. Maybe look for a Telus rom. I could swear I saw one, it might be in a different folder from the other ones. There is a kdz and a tot method. Check out both of those servers.
You can find theTelus Stock Rom here. Dont' know for sure, but I think it works with Koodo as well.
Thank you so much for the list there. Is there a .ToT file as thats the only way i know how to stock flash is with the LG Flash tool and you need a .DLL and a .TOT file. unless im mistaken.

Hi all,
I've switched back to Touchwiz for the camera after having cyanogenmod on the phone.
Now it seems like a catastrophe - WIFI won't work with some roms (specifically touchwiz, and now touchwiz wont even boot) while making and receiving calls and texts won't work with lolipop or with cyanogenmod.
I've wiped totally in recovery before installing anything to ensure no issues, but I am at my wits end, about to buy an iPhone tomorrow because I need a reliable phone for business.
Any advice on what I might do? I have the I337M version (rogers)

If all else fails, Odin back to stock.
Give the lollipop Google play edition rom a try, it's been rock solid for me and many others. I will say that for whatever reason, I was never able to get WiFi working in the hyperdrive rom (since rls19) I tried changing modems and what not, but switching to a different rom worked workout issue. Try golden eye rom or one of the others from iB.

Will try other ROMS. I've attempted to ODIN back to 4.2.2 but wifi is not working even with clean wipe.
I'm really going to die soon. I spent the whole day trying to restore my IMEI as I don't have the original box (bought it second hand just the phone alone) and did not have EFS back up prior to flashing.
So, the whole mess was when I flashed Dorimanx for D800 instead of my variant which is D805 (my careless mistake, the title of the page was really confusing). Ever since, I lost my IMEI is shown as 0 or null so does my baseband. I then flashed ResurrectionRemix, PowerG2, etc. but still unable to get any mobile network connection.
I've tried reverting to stock KitKat firmware but to no avail. I've flash other modems as well with no success. I've even tried the QST NvManager switching from Windows 10 to 7 and re-installing the USB drivers numerous times still no luck. I followed so many forums and watched endless youtube tutorials none of them can fix my problem.
I'm really desprate, please help me.
how can the tile be confusing.? even qhen you go to download page theres all the variants. was kernel really the culprit of this.? am not really sure that kernel would damage imei and baseband i think flashing bootloaders do. twrp wrong rom. ect. you should post this in the q&a thread. i know some have restored imei.

Dear @raptorddd
Thank you for your feedback and I'm sorry. I did not blame the kernel as in whole context but rather my careless mistake and take note I suspected my problem was flashing the kernel for the wrong model variant so it was not actually Dorimanx's issue, no offense I even admitted my wrong-doing.
Anyway, after reading your reply at least there is a light to my answer. I will do some more research on bootloaders for my exact variant because most of the threads found here are for D802 International while mine is Brazil (Latin America) although I'm from SEA.
I was very happy when I see 6.0 MM on this frakenstein device but now I have this network problem making me sad. It's like having an old car with a new engine but no wheels. Please help.

I don't know how a kernel can wipe your imei. Have you changed roms succesfully before? Have you used ioroot on it? Ioroot makes efs backups automatically. That would help.

@raptorddd @Art Vanderay
I figured out. My phone is actually the D802 variant. It is obviously shown at the back of the case and when I open the back case, the model number is also printed just underneath the battery D802. I thought it was D805 because when I bought this phone it was already rooted and running PowerG2 and the model shown at the About page was D805. This is why I started looking for stock firmware for D805, TWRP D805, Dorimanx D805, and everything D805. So, when I downloaded ResurrectionRemix 6.0 MM, that was when my phone started to act weird but I'm very sure it was not RR issue as well. I wipe all my partitions without making any backup just before I started flashing things. I've done this 1000 times with no problem and this is the only time I got it wrong. I've tried flashing the bootlader changer aroma, then KitKat bootloader stock and still no IMEI, the phone number shown as unkown. I now got back my baseband because I flashed the KitKat baseband.
I'm going to start all over again today, and I'm getting all the files for D802 instead and will let you guys know if I can restore my IMEI back. Thank you for your participation on my thread, very much appreciated.

YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I FOUND THE ANSWER ALREADY. Please ignore the caps, this is just to show you how happy I am.
I've spent approximately 48 hours to figure what the heck is going on.
What I did was:
1. Flash stock firmware Brazil KitKat D805 .kdz through LG FlashTool 2014.
2. Use ioroot25 to root it via adb.
3. After rooting, download AutoRec.apk for KitKat and install that.
4. Download TWRP bumped latest and flash it to replace AutoRec's old version of TWRP.
5. Flash Dorimanx KitKat 10.9 (at the time of this post) or latest.
6. Flash KitKat stock baseband and modem for 20d.
After rebooting system, everything is ok. I got back my mobile network now. So happy!!! I'm requesting the moderator to close this thread as my question as been solved.

I'm not sure also. The back case written as D802 and just below the battery also written as D802. But when I tried to go back to stock I was unable to use D802 firmware but only can use D805 stock firmware. I'm now on Google Edition 1.3 the model is written as D802. When I try to flash stock D805 firmware I can't get through already. Im not sure why but as long as I can use the phone right now, I don't want to bother so much about that.

So far, Google Edition 1.3 is the best/stable among all other ROMS that I've tried like Power G2, RR, etc. Nice battery life, 100% in the morning and came back from work still have another 30%-40% (usage mainly for WhatsApp, Facebook, internet browsing occasionally, no movie/music/games-just COC once or twice). This is the most straight-forward ROM and the closest to Stock Lollipop from Google without any other 3rd party apps and bloatwares. Very stable, no FC, great camera, and knock code gestures (flashed additional QuickMemo+ which isn't included by default). Awesome!
