S5 No Sound - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i wanted to revert the volume back to normal after using the volume boost mod and i replaced the mixer_paths.xml file back to the original one i backed up and i have no sound at all and my phone is freezing non stop
please help me

I don't know why you wouldn't describe, step by step what you did to install the volume mod? Or at least tell us which specific mod it was? Without those crucial details it's impossible to know what was changed or if you have fully reverted the changes or not.
Lacking key information all I can suggest is that you try clearing the cache from recovery mode (pull battery, replace, then press and hold in order volume up, home, power buttons). If the problem persists then try installing the full, stock firmware with Odin, followed by a factory data reset. That should resolve all issues. Then you can restore your backup. If you don't have a backup, that is a bad habit and in that case you'd have to reinstall your apps again. But at least your system would be stable again.

[Q] Republic Wireless ROM Help Please

I made the mistake of using Titanium Backup to integrate sys Dalvik into ROM. Now my device can't boot, all I get is force close messages for everything. I can't get to the launcher to undo this. I was also stupid enough to not have a nandroid backup.
- How can I get back to Titanium BU to undo this?
- Can anyone point me to a stock rom for Republic Wireless?
- Anything else I can do to save this phone?
Thanks, I'm desperate here!
Take it to warranty or RP. No chance to restore it yourself.. If you'll flash XT530 ICS or GB you'll bricked (and if it will boot you'll never find way to restore network on RP)... One people tried that method - not worked. LINK for info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2082557
A little late, but maybe this will help others in a similar situation. Have you tried a factory reset? It worked for me when I got stuck in a bootloop.
Pull the battery, put it back in. Hold volume up and volume down, and then press the power button, holding all three until you get the Moto logo. Eventually you'll get an android icon on the screen. Hit home, and use the volume buttons to navigate the menu and power to select factory reset(You should try wiping the cache first, it might work). You'll have a basically stock phone, but you will still be rooted(or I was anyway).
I made a nandroid backup, but I'm told the phone probably won't let you flash it because it isn't signed by motorola.
Good luck.

[Q] Stuck in "Safe mode"

Hi,
So I switched batteries in my S4 (Android 4.3) and for some reason the phone now boots in "Safe Mode". All of my downloaded apps are unavailable to me and I can't get it to start up normally. I have tried taking out the battery for a while, rebooting with the volume down button pressed in and various combinations of this, which is what I have found in the suggestions on the Net, but to no avail. I'm getting pretty desperate here as there are a number of apps that I use in work which are now unavailable.
Does anyone know what I should do to get back to normal???
Grateful for any help/M
this is little thought:
case 1: if you don't have any important data
1. flash recovery like phliz or TWRP , make full Nandroid backup.
2. wipe system, data and cache/dalvik, flash any ROM out of there in Dev section, or stock if you want.
3. done , enjoy your phone again.
case 2: if you do have important data
way 1: 1,2,3 are same as above
4-1: use TB to extract important apps/data from Nandroid backup (I'm not sure if you can fully recover all your datas, but i think it should...)
way 2: or, check out in "about phone" and find your current firmware , and then download from sammobile the same firmware you currently have on your phone and then odin flash in, if your problem is caused by some error in the system , this should fix it , but i am not sure ...
---------------------------
REMEMBER, in both cases , you will LOSE your warranty (as flash recovery or firmware will trigger KNOX) ! , think clearly before you do it . and most important of all , make a Nandroid backup , that will, at least, restore back to your current situation instead of lose anything.

kk gpe reflash

I'm currenlty on KK GPE and have been very pleased so far. my only problem is the poor battery performance. Someone suggested using safe mode to try and find any suspect apps, but i haven't been able to get into safe mode. the phone seems to freeze on the startup animation when i press the volume buttons, so my question is this:
if i comment out the part that flashes the modems in the original zip, but keep everything else so i'm essentially reflashing the phone (I'm too lazy to redo the gsm hack) will i be getting a "factory reset" phone that will work on gsm? I know it's only one more thing to do, but i'm thinking i just need a fresh reflash. I'm already going ot be reinstalling all apps so was hoping ot avoid one more part of the setup process.
thanks

JB buttons stuck on KK

So i got my g2 to get somehow the JB buttons back (im using cloudyG3 btw)
Did this with G2 Xposed.
But i could not edit the menu and back keys position, so i unistalled it. But buttons are still same and kitkat aint back... and app crashes when going into frontal buttons on settings...
So far tried to replace them again in the way i want, but gravitybox isnt doing anything either...
i want back button on the right and menu button on the left...( Samsung way)
Any help on fixing this buttons would be highly apreciated, as having them reverse is terribly annoying.
If anyone need any more details on my phone, please ask.
Greetz
PD: Got nandroid backup, tried restoring only system (dont wanna go 1 week back in stufd) but no results.
Hello. I sort of had this issue yesterday, and the reason why it happened for me, was that my phone didn't wipe EVERYTHING as it was supposed to do when I wiped data+system+cache+dalvik, it just counted CloudyG3 as an "upgrade". That unfortunately means that your CloudyG3 was dirty flashed and that's why it doesn't work.
What I would recommend you to do is to backup all your apps only, and return to stock. then towelroot+autorec and start all over again.
I did something else, but I wouldn't recommend it since my phone stuck at bootlogo and kept turning itself on. I formatted Data in TWRP (which means internal storage too, don't do this unless you REALLY can't get out), and tried pushing a ROM through ADB (which didn't work because my adb wasn't properly installed), but then restored to stock through download mode.

Verification Failed, Unable to restart your device.

This dreadful error: "Verification Failed, Unable to restart your device. The Integrity verification has failed. You need to reset your device to factory default settings. This will erase all your data."
And a "Reset" button.
Nothing seems to have caused this. One minute phone was sitting on my desk happily, the next it rebooted itself (I assume) and this error appeared. Given that I'm not interested in losing my data I haven't pressed the factory reset button... because that's just silly.
- Phone is S5 Neo (W version). Rooted (CF-autoroot) with TWRP installed. Has been this way for months.
- Software updates are turned off
- ADB is disabled but I can access terminal using TWRP.
- Data partition is encrypted
What I've done so far:
- Backed up my Data partition using DD; but as it's encrypted I can't access the data
- Attempted terminal "twrp decrypt mypassword" using the password I used to unlock encryption at boot (result: "Failed to decrypt data")
What do I do now? Is there any way to decrypt this partition on my PC (I have linux and windows available to me) to at least rescue my data?
Thanks in advance...
I just had the same thing happen to me with the exact same model with the exact same settings as well today about a couple hours ago EXCEPT I never rooted the phone like yourself. So it isn't developer mode or anything like that. That can be ruled out. It's such f**king BS!
I heard rumors about nonsense like this years ago and the only way to supposedly fix the problem is to send the phone into samsung where they fiddle with the phone, never fix it, keep it (for whatever reason ??), and send a new phone back out IF we fall into warranty.
With all the corruption in the world and the shady happenings with government and businesses, why in the hell would any logical person send their phone back in to an OEM after it's been used? I'm a good person and come from a good family and all that, but ever since I had my information stolen from me a little over 5 years ago I really don't want to send my phone in and have my life in shambles again. No damn chance!
I'm thinking about calling in but I want all my info! I have important work related documents on here!
Only thing I am going to ask you is what software did you use to back it up (DD?)
Do these exact steps, Do not miss.
1. Reboot to recovery.
2. Do a data wipe (WIPE>FORMAT DATA) And Say "Yes"
3.Go to Reboot and Reboot back to recovery.
4.Download DM Verify Disabler https://build.nethunter.com/android-tools/no-verity-opt-encrypt/, Get the latest.
5.Copy in to the phone and flash it.
6.Go to Reboot and Reboot back to recovery.
7.Now Flash any rom as you wish.
8.Make Sure to Wipe Dalvik, Cache after.
Enjoy!!

Shameera_N you sound pretty smart....but why didn't you read the comments we posted and actually try and answer what we asked? WE DO NOT WANT TO WIPE OUR DATA and there is no way that wiping is part of the solution.
For this do we need a rooted phone?
This happened to me on a completely stock SM-G903F with data encryption enabled. So it has nothing to do with custom recoveries or root. It seems that the encryption method is flawed.
I don't think there is a way to get out of this one, so I wiped it. I don't have all that much stuff on the internal SD of my phone except for apps and messages. Your SD card won't get formatted, so if you save your photos there, they should be safe.
It's a pain, but this means you can't really safely use data encryption unless you regularly take backups (and even then, factory resetting a phone is no fun), even if errors like this only happen once in a blue moon.
This happend to me on my SM-G920P. I just odin flashed stock rom and back to new no data wipe or loss.
Same problem with a samsung galaxy s5 neo. Envrypted partition, Stock firmware, no root and updated.
At least i understood what caused it. I was listening to a youtube video. While the video was playing, i pressed the power button and switched off. When i switched on, i could not start android anymore

I know this isn't exactly related to the issue in this thread, but I'm not having much luck elsewhere.
My completely stock J3 (2017 model, J327A) was hit with verification failed. From what I've seen, I can fix my issue merely by flashing the original OS back into my phone. I have the files and programs I need to do this.
But I can't get the phone into download mode. I can boot it up to the warning screen. It tells me to press VolUp to enter download mode, or VolDn to cancel and restart the phone. However, neither pressing nor holding either of them does anything. I know they aren't broken, as I can boot into recovery mode as well, which requires VolUp. The buttons just don't respond when I'm at the warning screen. Is this something I can work around, or something I have to be patient with, or something I can't fix?
(Data partition is encrypted, though. Not sure if that will affect this.)
Simply long press the Shut Down Button !!!!!!!!
I simply pressed the shut down button and restarted my phone and it worked !!!!!
A light at the end of the factory reset error tunnel!
Well I had an encounter with that dreaded 'factory reset losing all data' message and I'm telling you I was furious! Anyways, after a few seconds of gasping and wondering how the heck am I gonna retrieve all of my data and stuff, the thought came to me to try some 'old school tactics' which involved removing the battery and pressing the power button to drain any residual power remaining on the phone's circuit board and then try powering up after reinserting the battery. Low and behold, the phone booted up with no issues at all. I was able to log in and access my phone as if nothing happened. It's funny how that one message can just change your whole outlook on things. I just hope that folks out there will try this and perhaps it will work for them instead of losing all their data and jumping through all sorts of hoops. Most importantly, BACK THAT THING UP!! You never know what next will come out of the woods at any given time!
Resolved error without loss of data
Hi,
I came across this problem today as soon as I woke up today, but was able to solve it.
I have a Samsung J5 prime phone and did the following steps:
Why this occurs?
The system thinks you wish to root your phone.
How to solve this?
1) when you have the verification failed screen, press "power" button + "Home" button + "Volume Down" button.
you'll be presented with a new screen which gives you 2 options-first, installing a custom OS and second, canceling it.
NOTE: I did not want to root my phone.
2) Hence, I chose the 2nd option and after that, my phone restarted with no loss of data.
Hope this helps!
if u can boot into recovery, go ahead and wipe cache/dalvik cache and reboot
this worked for me without any loss (i used twrp recovery to wipe and my device is SM_C900F /INS variant)

Came here to thank you with all my heart, this worked. I've been using TWRP for years on several phones, and I never knew that Wipe > Format Data did something different than Wipe > Advenced Wipe > Selecting Data > Swiping. I thought it served the same purpose. I don't know if the script did anything, though (because I used it before, but without formating data, and it didn't help at all).
Anyway, thank you so much!
how to remove Verification Failed or root in the TWRP file manager without losing data
