[Q] Stuck in "Safe mode" - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
So I switched batteries in my S4 (Android 4.3) and for some reason the phone now boots in "Safe Mode". All of my downloaded apps are unavailable to me and I can't get it to start up normally. I have tried taking out the battery for a while, rebooting with the volume down button pressed in and various combinations of this, which is what I have found in the suggestions on the Net, but to no avail. I'm getting pretty desperate here as there are a number of apps that I use in work which are now unavailable.
Does anyone know what I should do to get back to normal???
Grateful for any help/M

this is little thought:
case 1: if you don't have any important data
1. flash recovery like phliz or TWRP , make full Nandroid backup.
2. wipe system, data and cache/dalvik, flash any ROM out of there in Dev section, or stock if you want.
3. done , enjoy your phone again.
case 2: if you do have important data
way 1: 1,2,3 are same as above
4-1: use TB to extract important apps/data from Nandroid backup (I'm not sure if you can fully recover all your datas, but i think it should...)
way 2: or, check out in "about phone" and find your current firmware , and then download from sammobile the same firmware you currently have on your phone and then odin flash in, if your problem is caused by some error in the system , this should fix it , but i am not sure ...
---------------------------
REMEMBER, in both cases , you will LOSE your warranty (as flash recovery or firmware will trigger KNOX) ! , think clearly before you do it . and most important of all , make a Nandroid backup , that will, at least, restore back to your current situation instead of lose anything.

[Q] [HELP] A very weird problem with X5 Pro

Have searched the forum and couldn't find any discussion about a similar problem to what i'm having with my phone. This is super weird.
I'm on an official B928 rom. It started some time ago. Whenever i reboot my phone it "resets" to a particular state. Which means - everything i do with my phone before a reboot gets reversed back to a particular state at which my phone "froze". If i delete sms, they come back, if i install programs they are gone, if i uninstall programs - they come back and so on..
I've tried to flash B928 and B552, but i always get an error at the second stage (have tried all possible combinations - with/without the battery, formatting the card). Pink screen is blocked - can't unblock it, because my phone deletes the necessary files after reboot. Can't install CWM for the same reason.
Is that it? I'm out of ideas. If anyone can throw any idea at me or direct me in the right direction i would be very grateful.
Thank you
reboot recovery
advance menu
format /data
take a look if it help
I only have the standard recovery, not cwm, it doesn't have advanced menu.
But even if i try the wipes in it, it does nothing, meaning it doesn't even delete my data.
Thanks
I'm having the same issue with my u8800-51. My thread is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2331209 but no suggestions therein have helped, yet.
Ok, i see. I've seen some people restoring their phones with Acronis, but for this you need a working pink screen, which is a no-go for me..

[HELP] Can't Get Wifi To Work.

Right guys, I'm really stuck and about to smash my phone in half.
For some reason this morning my phone decided that it no longer wanted the Wifi to work, so it switched off and I haven't been able to get it to turn back on for more than 5 minutes. I've completely wiped the phone and started again, I've restored old working backups and I've updated to the latest versions of ROMs.
The weird thing that I find is that when I restore from an old backup the Wifi works until I go into settings, as soon as I do that the phone freezes before loading the settings and it breaks the Wifi, can't find anything on this and all previous efforts to revive it and solutions posted all over the internet are not working at all.
Really am about to break this phone, so please help!
Any solution would be helpful and I can quickly rule out the ones I have done.

If I had that problem here is the first thing I would try.
First restore the backup you said you had. (the one which has the working wifi).
After doing that go into settings>accounts> Backup and reset and select "Factory data reset".
Then reboot the phone, but don't setup your google(gmail) account yet, skip that step.
When you finally get to the launcher screen go into setting turn on wifi and see
if it's working properly.......
If it is, it means that there was something corrupted in your
data or settings which google/gmail backed up for you.
If that's the case then do a full SYNC with your google Gmail
account so google will no longer restore some corrupt settings
which causes your wifi not to work properly.
Good luck!
Sorry should have stated that I'm still running custom ROMs, I've got PACMAN on there at the minute, but I did as you said and the did the equivalent reset and then couldn't finish the setup because the setup wizard kept crashing. Either way it does ask you to enter your wifi password before entering your Gmail account and I couldn't do that because it was stuck on "Turning on wifi".
About to do a full reset back to a stock rom without root. Did some more testing last night and it seems that I keep losing root somehow, after a little while I'll go into titanium and it'll say root access lost, and then when I go into CWM when I got to restart it will say "Root access is missing, root device?" and neither option helps as if I click yes after a while it just 'goes' again.
I've also had some boot hangs which I've discovered other people have had when they've been faced with the same root missing message.

wifi didn't work?
if the office stock firmware can't get it work , maybe your phone need fix....
I haven't tried stock just yet, about to though, just updated CWM and SuperSU, did SuperSU before but not CWM. I'll see if this works if not then I'll do a full stock install, getting quite miffed off with this now.
Edit: New problem, I can't seem to flash stock as it keeps coming up Odin: write failure. Never had this before :/
For those that are still searching for the answer here is what I did. Links provided for ease.
This method will delete all user data.
This basically is a last resort type scenario so please follow it with caution.
Backup what you can, while you can. Plenty of tutorials online for that.
Download the ROM I9505XXUEMJ7, can be found at SamMobile but slow download. I alternatively used a pre-rooted one just for testing as I had no intention of keeping the Samsung ROM. You can find a copy here.
Download Odin 3.07 and 1.85 (I had problems using some files with them so had to keep swapping)
Make sure you have Samsung USB Drivers installed. (Download here)
Download I9505XXUEMJ7 WiFi FIX, here.
Optional Downloads:
Download CF AutoRoot 1.65, here.
Download CWM 6.0.4.4 .TAR files, see this post.
Now, If you're coming from a Stock ROM do this:
Go into Settings > Developer Options, and enable "USB Debugging". If you don't have that, you need to go Settings > About, scroll down to "Builder Number" and tap it 5-10 until it says "You are now a developer" and the Options should now be visible.
Put your phone into Download mode. (Power off/Remove battery. Then hold Vol Down, Power and Home button until it vibrates. Then continue if asked.)
Connect your phone to your computer via USB cable (if you've only just installed the USB drivers you may need to wait a while for it to recognise the device, you may also have to disconnect/re-connect the USB cable after it's finished loading the drivers.)
Open Odin 1.85 and load the downloaded ROM under the PDA Section (You don't need to change anything else)
Once Odin has added this device, should show "<ID:0/003> Added!!" or similar, click start.
When it's completed it should say "PASS" in green at the top. If it doesn't repeat steps 3 & 4 but with Odin 3.07.
Let it boot up normally, if it gets stuck on Samsung logo (Mine did), you'll just need to clear the user data & cache.
To do that you need to enter Recovery (Same procedure as download mode but Vol Up, not Down.)
Scroll down to "Wipe data/factory reset" and then scroll down to "Yes".
Then select "Reboot system now", it will restart straight away
Once it has finally loaded up select your language and then the next screen should be Wifi setup, if your wifi is working then you're done.
If you Wifi isn't working and won't turn on and is stuck, then continue the setup for the phone as you wish, I skipped everything and didn't enter any accounts as I didn't wish to keep it.
Once you're at the Homescreen, turn the phone off and put it in download mode again.
Open Odin 1.85 and select the Wifi Fix file under PDA. This time untick Auto-Reboot and then click Start once Odin sees the phone.
When it's completed it should say "PASS" in green at the top. If it doesn't repeat step 9 but with Odin 3.07.
Note: Most tutorials do state to add this under Phone, but I found that it kept failing and didn't work.
Turn your phone off and go back into download mode. (Again, I just pulled the battery out)
Close Odin and follow step 9 again. But you don't need to untick Auto-Reboot. This is to ensure that the Modem has been flash correctly.
When the phone has loaded again, try the Wifi out, hopefully this time it should be working. That's all I did after days and days of testing, and now it's working flawlessly.
If you then wish to install a custom ROM again, you are more than welcome to, quick guide:
Enable "USB Debugging", as above (Step 1).
Put your phone into download mode.
Open Odin 1.85, under PDA select the CF AutoRoot 1.65 file found at the top of this post.
Click start, let it restart and install SuperUser.
Once it's booted up, turn it off and put it back into Download mode.
Open Odin 1.85 and select the CWM 6.0.4.4 file and click Start.
When the phone has booted back up, you should now have working Wifi, a Rooted phone ready for exploitation and have Custom Recovery menu ready for you to install your new choice of ROMs.
Took me a long time to write this up, but if it helps just one person, then it will have been worth it. Enjoy!
Edit: I should also say a massive Thank You to all the developers out there that helped me get to this point by providing me with the Utilities, ROMs, Fixed Modems, Root and CWM.

[Guide]Simple way when EFS crash, unable flash to JB, but still able to flash to ICS

Hi All,
I've been struggling with my i9100 for almost 36 hours, flooding my laptop with all sorts of CWM_recovery versions and reading all those articles. Just fixed the phone 5 minutes ago and intended to share the steps out right away. This is my very first post in XDA_developers, I hope it helps those that are still struggling with this buggar problem.
What problem did I face?
1) When trying to flash to jellybean rom, it stucked at the boot screen, bootloop. forever. I've heard first boot takes longer, and you need patient, some said 5 minutes, some 10minutes, and some said 30 minutes. In the end, I decided to wait for 1hr and I knew it was stuck for sure.
2) When flashed to ICS, totally fine except for no network signal, due to the crashed EFS.
3) I knew my EFS was crashed because when I booted to Philz _recovery, when you're trying to mount EFS, it showed "unable to mount :/EFS". And also, when you checked for phone info under "about phone", imei number unknown, basebands unknown and ets...
What I did
1) Download any stock ICS rom .tar file, flash with odin
2) Download the CWM below, flash with odin so that your stock ICS is rooted.
3) After rebooting, download an app called GSII_Repair from play store.
4) Enable USB debugging under developer options
5) Make sure usb cable is not attached
6) open GSII_repair, click on Repair GSII, you'll have to follow the sequence from top to bottom. Save, mount, repair.
7) once you have repaired, boot to recovery again, and you'll notice you'll be able to mount the EFS partition.
8) mount EFS.
9) at that moment, you'll feel it, flashing JB roms wont get stuck again.
Hope it helps
Regards

[Q] Galaxy S5 android 5.0 and recovery

Hi guys
I'm using samsung galaxy S5 (4.4.2) and recently upgraded to 5.0 using custom rom which I found here. It was working just great. I created 2 Nandroid using TWRP. One after a fresh installation another one after restoring my file contents from Helium and Titanium backup..
However something went wrong and i decided to restore my nandroid backup to revert back my changes. To my surprise both nandroid backup failed. I got a success message (using recovery mode) however when i reboot my phone im getting tons of messages like "System failed to start" "process failed to start" wait or press ok.
When I reflash the custom rom, it works fine, however i couldnt recover my system from nandroid backup.
I repeated several times but both nandroid gave me this same error. I even tried fixing permissions but no use. Then I used odin to flash a stock rom (BOA3) and rooted that using TWRP and most recent SU binaries. Its working great now, however I just wanted to know what is the best method to take a nandroid backup now? I'm afraid TWRP will bail out on me once again.
All the while I used CWM and it was great however 5.0 requires latest binaries and only can be rooted via TRWP recovery. Any suggestion? I just want to take a complete nandroid backup and save it in case if something goes wrong.
Thanks

I'm being plagued by this problem since I updated, flashing stock Lollipop using odin.
The problem first appeared after trying to restore my app+data using Titanium.
I went back to the beginning and flashed again but my phone is still unstable and I still occasionally get the '"System failed to start" "process failed to start" wait or press ok' issue that you have. A reboot generally sorts it out but the update has made my phone very unstable.
I also have big problems entering recovery and download modes using the buttons.
Cleaning my cache/davlik hasn't solved it either.
Hopefully someone can help us.
Anyone?

Yes. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Trouble in Galaxy town
Hi, I'll try make myself short.
1) Back when I had an Galaxy S2 i modded it a little bit but I haven't done it at all since then.
2) Now a few years later I got bored/sick of the stock ROM that comes with the S5 so I wanted to install something I knew had a good reputation, Cyanogenmod.
3) Getting a new recovery was an nightmare itself but eventually I got it working and made an backup so I could roll back if needed to.
4) Now, 24 hours of using CM12 I can only say one sentence: "What kind of crap is this?!" It's so unstable it's almost ridiculous. Bluetooth hangs up all the time thus requiring a reboot which leads to most-annoying-thing-ever-#2. The clock resets itself upon EVERY boot which makes WhatsApp go bananas. Doesn't matter if I previously set the time/date manually or let the phone do it automatically. Then there are the random hang ups that occur all the time and one third thing. Hardware acceleration in BS Player doesn't work AT ALL!
5) Said and done I reversed to the back up but oh man the phone wasn't happy about this (yes I made a wipe before recovering the backup). Nearly every basic service malfunctioned and were forcibly shut down. A factory reset made no difference...
6) For some reason I opened KIES and found out that an update with android lollipop was available so I (in a moment of despair) installed that hoping for salvation.
7) The phone boots properly and everything seems to be going wonderful until I realize that my network connection is high on something. Loses connectivity to my provider all the time thus the phone is totally useless.
8) I HAD to have a working phone for work and since no support is given on Sundays from Samsung I again installed CM12 just for the day.
Now to the good part!
9) When trying to recover the backup once again it's gone corrupt! Can't recover so now I'm stuck with buggy-as-h*ll-cyanogemmod12 with no means of reverting.
What-the-actual-****-do-I-do? Been trying to make some sense from the thread "Galaxy S 5 Original Android Development" but I feel so lost. So if someone could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful!
EDIT: What I want is to reverse back to original stock ROM. Screw the bloatware. I just need the phone stable and working!
EDIT2: After some more googeling I've figured out I need a stock ROM with the right CSC. I use a swedish carrier other than 'tre'. Shall I look for ROMs with CSC 'HTS' anyway? Can't find any info about other carriers in sweden.
EDIT3: Now I've found what I think is right on sammobile.com/firmwares/database/ (search query: 'g900f', first hit 'Sweden' CSC 'VDS'). Worried thou as it's Android Lollipop which made my phone go nuts. Can't find the KitKat version on that site...
EDIT4: Found the KitKat version on samsung-updates.com. The download speed is sooooooo slow (~6 hours)! Download limits should be illegal...
Thanks! //R

My rooted samsung galaxy s4 is soft bricked, Can I save the data?

Yes this post is correctly dated. I've had this device a LOOOONNNGGG time.
The device has been rooted since shortly after I bought it new years ago. I've had very few problems since... which is why it's never been replaced.
I believe I have the stock ROM, sorry it's been a while.
When I start the device it gets stuck at the splash screen with the sprint logo.
I can get the device to "download mode" but I don't know what to do once there and I'm not sure I can do anything from here.
I can get the device to "android system recovery."
I know I installed TWRP when I rooted and installed the rooted ROM but when I boot to recovery it doesn't go there.
I've wiped the "cache partition" but the problem remained. I'm not sure what else to do from here and still be able to salvage data.
I'm trying to salvage the data on the internal storage. I'm pretty sure I could successfully "wipe data/ factory reset" and get it to "function" again but that's not the priority. I'm going to replace it regardless of success or failure. Data recovery is the priority here. (pictures and videos of my young children as well as less important stuff like contacts.)
I have an old laptop with an old version of ubuntu I can use or a newer one with windows 7 to work with. I mention this in case it makes this easier to help?
Thank you very much if you try to take a stab at this or refer someone that might!
Update:
So I managed to install TWRP via Odin.
I booted to this recovery and my data partition appears to be empty?
When I try to back up I get the error message "unable to mount '/data'"
I tried doing a wipe, not one of the fancy extra options ones just the regular wipe and it failed.
Any guidance will be extremely appreciated.
Edit:
So I've come to the conclusion that the data isn't accessible because of encryption and my pass code. Is there any way to enter it via recovery and access this info?
Is anybody out there?
Edit 2:
I hope this helps someone someday. I haven't solved the problem but I think I'm making progress.
First I had an old version of TWRP. I installed the latest for my device and tried backing up again. I'm not sure but I think it's working. TWRP dosen't seem to need my password for the backup. I imagine I'll just need it to access the data later.
Edit 3:
No sooner did I save the last edit and my backup failed.
Process ended with error : 255
