fps governor i9505 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to create a governor that uses frames per second for computing.
So for example
You set the gov to 30fps. The cpu works only to make stable 30fps.
You set gov to 60fps. The cpu keeps 60cpu stable
If there are for example areas in a games that doesnt require much power for 60fps it clocks down
And if there are games with fps cap it clocks down aswell.
This is a great idea i think. And it should be possible.
This would be a simple governor because the only governor setting for the user would be fps.

Not bad but our phone can't handle all the games at 60fps, so it's a matter of computing power too.
A variable could be added though so that when it detects fps >30 but <60 it tries to make it work at 30fps so that the performance is consistent.
But what about videos? Many videos are at 24 and 30 fps, so something must be done about this too.
Damn, it'd be cool but I think it's too much work for a result that might not be as pleasing as it sounds. :/
If a frame limiter exists for android (don't know if it does or not, just sayin') we could most likely get less heat and battery consumption when set to 30fps for certain apps without the need for a special governor.

Thanks for the reply. I hope someone makes that governor.

improve camera quality

Quality of camera for trinity is quite good but I don't like the 15 fps movies.
So I went to
HKLM/SOFTWARE/HTC/Camera/Recparam/MP4Large/Framerate
and changed the value from 15 to 30.
I get fluid movies but bitrate stays the same and picture quality is going down.
so I tried to change the BitRate value (384000 by default) but there is no effect. You can put whatever you want, the compression is controlled somewhere else.
Is there a way to increase this bitrate? I don't mind if movies get big as long as quality is improved.
Can you tell mi what is the maximum available video recording resolutin with Trinity and what frame rate?
maximum recording resolution is 352*288 (mode CIF).
In fact I checked that if you change the value:
HKLM/SOFTWARE/HTC/Camera/Recparam/MP4Large/
"Bitrate"=384000
Then whatever value you put the resulting file will be encoded with a default value of 192000.
Nobody has a clue of how the real bitrate is defined for the encoder???
192000 is the value for MP4medium and MP4small profiles.
Isn't it strange?
It's like if you change the value for MP4Large it falls back on MP4medium bitrate value...
Are you sure that trinity actualy record video in 30fps after registry hack? To bad bitrate can't be changed, is mp4 only available format for recording?
I tried it too, indeed de 30 fps tweak works, but bitrate is terrible.
I hope anyone got an idea how to fix this thing.

Did you try a slower frame rate, like 25 fps? It is still a pretty good speed.

I'm wondering how powerful that ATi chip in the Trinity is. If it can handle 30fps with a higher bitrate... let's see if we can squeeze the most of it!

From what I've read, the ATi video chip is not being fully utilized by the ROM, maybe when we get an upgrade that will change.

Not much is being utilized by the current ROM is there? I mean, it's seriously disappointing that HTC decided to release the Trinity with so many features disabled or toned down.

Agreed that most of the build-in features were disabled or not turned up fully, GPS, USB-Host and now Ati Chips. How HTC can release a "Full features" ROM soon.
Just wondering if anyone's who flashed their Trinity with one of the latest test ROMs noticed any changes to the video performance.
Anybody solve this problem?
also want to im prove videobitrate...
any clues?!
push need help
how to increase videobitrate
1. total amount of memory must be constant (I think)
2. more fps less bitrate
3. decrease fps and increase the bitrate

[Q] Does overclocking the CPU affect the video performance?

Hey Mates,
I am yet undone with overclocking the CPU since it drains more battery and as it is I am not at all satisfied with wildfire battery life.
These days I am engaged in watching movies of all formats nd the major problem lies when CPU is not able to handle the video format.
So does overclocking really impoves the video watching feedback? Does it improves the FPS factor?
If so, to which frequency should I overclock my wildfire.
Only tried with avi files via arc media. Playback improved a little with OC, but I got better results lowering to native resolution (320x 240) even at stock CPU speed.
Yes, i do use arcMedia, and i liked its performance too. But when it comes to multitasking, like, read Message while video is paused, it creates lot of playback problem. I use 2 media players, arcMedia, which is great, and QQPlayer, which according to me is worth using on android, better support, clean.

[Q] Rendering some apps in 720p

I am wondering if there is any way to make some apps for example 3D games render in 720p instead of 1080p. This could be usefull for more performance in some games that could use that or to conserve battery while gaming, because the GPU can then work at a lower frequency and a lower voltage.
I know it is possible to make apps run in custom dpi settings
But I would like to know if there is any way to run an app in an custom resolution like 1280x720 or 800x480.
My I9505 is rooted, running KT kernel and its on 4.4.2 touchwizz.

PUBG Mobile graphics settings

What graphics settings do you use?
Do you guys use gfx tool?
Custom kernels (with gpu/cpu overclock) help?
As i couldnt find the right settings.
Is sdm625 capable of playing the game at HD realistic, 1920*[email protected]

Put at default graphics it should work fine with minor lag. increase the graphics it starts to lag.
I keep everything at low, increasing it does not actually help. I am on stock ROM. I am happy with the performance, as long as i can keep killing few guys.
I keep it smooth with realistic & high from rates .. It works superfine with barely any frame drop.. Results are consistent .. U can try out mah settings
fact snapdragon 625 will still have lag when you playing games like pubg or mobile legends. snapdragon 800+ better than 625+ for games. but for social media, browsing i think no have different.

I am late in replying here. But that "fact" was very helpful as i had no idea that Snapdragon 8XX series existed. Shame on me.
I'm on lineage 15.1 with velocity kernel on performance mode (2.4hz cpu and 855hz gpu)with the ElementalX governer and play on balanced realistic.

There must have been misunderstanding on your side as we can't play hdr mode on non hdr device. Display must be hdr.
Will try hd and fps ultra. Thanks

That may be true. But you need hdr display to take advantage of hdr graphics.
And i have tried on hd graphics are little choppy

its the gpu man. the cpu is more than enough for it. if you are rooted, give a little boost for the gpu by overclocking but dont expect a miracle out of it.

I recommend low graphics and high fps.
I use GFXtool to set graphics to smooth + Ultra (60fps) frame rate. It's very playable and very smooth.
Using HD also works fine but the issue is with frame drops when there's a lot going on (frag grenades and specially smoke)
You can also set it to HDR but you'd need a phone with an HDR display for it to work.

Oneplus 8 pro touch latency is bad for gaming

Hello everyone.
I have converted from Rog Phone 2 to Oneplus 8 Pro as the bottom port of my rog phone 2 got damaged and was giving hot temperature warning all the time. My model is IN2020. I am a gamer and I have noticed that as compared to rog phone 2 the touch is slow as I do not think it to be 240hz touch sampling rate at all. I play pubg at 90 fps using [email protected] and same display settings for COD Mobile but 60 fps. I can feel the slow touch response even while scrolling. I would like to know if someone has converted from gaming phone and having the same problem.
Thanks

As a gamer on pc and phones (emulators not the games you've mentioned) I play at 144hz and 200hz on a G-Sync Acer predator z35, but it's dependent on the game and if I can push those FPS, just because a screen is capable doesn't mean your CPU/GPU is.
I would recommend matching the game refresh rate.
You've got a 30fps overhead there PUBG and a 60fps overhead on cod.
Reduce the QHD to FHD, the difference is negligible.
If any of these games can actually run at 120hz then I'd recommend using 120hz, make sure game mode is on for these apps.
Make sure you are actually getting a locked 120fps not 90 or 60.
Remove any other motion smoothing for these apps, they won't help and will reduce input.

Well I have turned the display resolution to FHD+. The touch response is better now than QHD+.

Yep I found the same, that's input lag induced by the resolution though, not the touch display.
