Hello over the pass few days I have flashed the Android Nand Rom on my HTC HD2 T-mobile USA device. Now I would like to know if there is any way I can change the icons on my device?
When I had the CHT before Android I use to use icon changer and Csmi
which work GREAT is there a way for me to do the same with this build of Android?
I hear people talking about Rooting there devices but I don't fully understand this process do I need to Root to be able to customize my devices know? If rooting my device is what I need to do to accomplish customizing my icons please tell me how to do this and post any helpful links to download any files needed to complete the process.
Any help would be great at this point thanks so much you guys are the best
Most rom here are rooted, if not there is z4root.
Even it's rooted, it is not easy to change the icon like wm 6.5, you have to modify the apk file, but you can change the short cut icon easily (the icon that show on desktop, not the icon shows in app drawer)
Flashing MIUI ROM, that only easy way to change the icon in apps drawer that I knew, it change the icons thru theming, and you can modify the theme.

Hello yes I just found out I had Super User on my device but I still don't know how to use it. What is the apps drawer? and how do I go about changing the short cut icons. what and how to change the modify the apk fille also. sorry for all the questions. Thanks so much for your help
Use BetterCut or Folder Organizer can change the icon on your home screen but not in apps drawer.
I'm sure you don't want to use modify apk rout to change icon.
The easy way is flashing MIUI ROM.
Below is example of application drawer.
m using mdj cyanogenmod 7 v2.6...how do i check whether my phone is rooted or not..??
Open up a terminal app ('terminal emulator' on market for example) and type:
su
If you don't get any error msg'es, you're rooted.
Search for LauchnerPro (my fav.) or ADW Lauchner to get the possibility to easy change dock icons or shortcuts on homescreen.
if you want to change the icons shown in the app drawer you have to use e.g bettercut.

I rooted my Moto x because of the severe volume warning. I like to use a battery bar instead of the stock indicator. I like the crt screen off function in gravity box. I like a reboot menu....sometimes I want to reboot, ok?
I do several things with my rooted phone, but my big 3 that I can't seem to live without.
1. Free Wifi Tethering
2. Uninstalling/Freezing bloatware and Greenifying the rest
3. Backing up app data and games
1. Removal of bloatware and greenify
2. Xposed framework

Just a little humor. Coolness factor among fellow geeks.
Finally decided to root, since jcase released post ota root method.
I wanted root to.
1) debloat/greenify
2) allow tasker to toggle GPS
3) xposed framework
4) separate volume controls ie. Separate ring and notification volume.
5) minor tweaks like center clock, battery icon, remove carrier logo etc...

Battery bar? I've been looking for a way (xposed mod?) to get that thin 100% width line to show battery level. Is that what you're talking about?
1 - xposed framework, more specifically XUImod, listview animations and status bar colors
2 - TB
3 - debloat
To fix the wifi icon spacing and remove the carrier label.
to add the pull down quick settings from a right swipe
Strictly to get the idiotic att logo out of my status bar

Yeah, I root, install xposed framework, install gravity box, under status bar tweaks you can disable the battery icon and then install t.e.a.m. battery bar from google play.
Sixaxis app and gravity box for status bar tweaks and adding/rearranging quick settings.

How did you guys get xposed to work. After using rockmymoto xposed says the installation failed because system was read only.
I tried root explorer to remount as r/w but no luck.

I believe you need to go into recovery and set the system r/w, so much easier when your boot loader is unlocked

i believe you have reboot recovery to make system writeable as with pwnmymoto. I haven't gotten this far yet to test. So, power off, hold vol down and power for 5 seconds, choose recovery with vol down, then vol up to select it. system should reboot r/w. hope this helps.
I rooted my phone because I use ad blocker, every once in a while I backup apps when switching ROMs and for some additional functions of Tasker.

I just wanted to post that i was able to use a popular program (starts with a k ends with an o) that may or may not be sending your imei to china. A phone isn't worth having without root.
(I did try adding recovery from this thread, but it failed, so the 2 possibly unsafe methods are the only options as of right now)
Please explore all the risks before copying and possibly blaming me for any harm done to your phone. As far as i know we don't have a stock odin file to go back to if you mess it up.
I used a fresh install of xp with no user data and i didn't have my sim installed on the phone and no user accounts setup on the phone. Once i was done to be safe, i wiped that install of xp.
Wanam also works great.
Yes!! hundreds of mods work with Wanam Xposed (root required)
install xposed framwork found HERE
open the app then install the framwork
install Wanam Xposed found HERE
then enabe the module in Xposed
make your changes in Wanam Xposed
reboot and see the magic!
Things i've changed so far:
Notification panel: remove AP/PM, clock centered, enable circle battery, hide alarm clock, quick settings tiles changed to 6, hide indicator bars, remove gaps between tiles, disable airplane toggle popup, hide wifi notification, hide carrier label,
With Hidden Note 2 settings.
get it from the play store, here is a link
In the camera settings i enabled the shutter sound on off menu.
With Titanium Backup.
I froze SDM to block any updates.
I froze com.android.providers.partnerBookmars to get rid of the samsung bookbarks
With Root Explorer.
I forced chrome to always give desktop view
basically you download the file.
remove the ".txt" from the end
copy it to /data/local/
set permissions
reboot.

kingo, no hickups at all. I can't give a link, because it is currently under review by xda because it sends your imei like to china or something. You should defiantly look into the security risks... I ultimately decided that root was more important. And possibly, i don't fully understand what they could do with my imei. I understand that for the Note 3, you use the imei to get a $50 play store credit, so maybe if there is ever something like that for the s4 mini, we better be quick. I also took other precautions by using a fresh install of xp (i've heard of others using sandbox) with no personal info whatsoever on it, i didn't have my sim card installed on the phone, and i didn't have any accounts set up on the phone. Their website looks pretty clean, is registered in the US, they say they are from Canada, but don't have a complete grasp on english (but then neither do i), and it is impressive the number of phones that their program works on.
When on wifi, does anyone else have the 3g/4g/1x icon on? Mine always stays on. I know it's not using cellular data because the arrows are gone, i'm just wondering if it is something i've done to make it do this.

I for sure don't know enough. I only assume that it would be locked down like the Verizon Note 3 and Verizon Galaxy S4. The recovery for those is safe strap which i'm sure could be done, but i think there might be only one guy that could do it. I'm afraid that this device won't have enough support to talk him into creating it for us. It seems like it takes him more than a week of solid coding to do it.

If I'm not mistaking any time you need to go back to stock you can always use the Verizon software to repair and set to factory defaults. I always did with my original s4 went from root back to stock and didn't have to use Odin. But I could be wrong on the s4 mini. Maybe something to look into I guess.

Good point, but is there a way to do it if your phone is boot looping or otherwise keeping you out of the settings menu?

I themed my Axon 7 a few days ago using Substratum and the "DarkStock" theme. A few things don't theme and I always leave a few "Google" things out due to when they update, they'll crash (usually Photo's and Calendar).
I discovered today, that if I have "Android System" themed and try to change my input (keyboard) either in Settings or on the pull-down notifications, my phone will reboot. If I remove "Android System" from being themed, it works fine... But, if I'm running a dark theme I need the Android System themed, otherwise I get dark text on dark background and it's near impossible to read.
Luckily, I don't need to change my keyboard.....and I discovered it by accident, but I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this or if it's just my phone?

Hmmm, I think theres a themed Google Keyboard in TBO. Personally I use SwiftKey as I can't stand the Google keyboard and want the numbers row on top. There's a great (free) SwiftKey in TBO as well with hundreds of (free) themed keyboards.

I understand. It's pretty common for some themes to break things. Actually I was talking to one of guys from Substratum and he was saying that it shouldn't work but that Layers should. I told him that it was the other way round and he thinks it's the legacy part of Substratum. Which doesn't make sense to me, but whatever. I'm just glad we can theme some of it. So if you leave the Android system themed and leave the keyboard alone does it still crash? Maybe if you froze or uninstalled the stock keyboard in titanium it would work?

When I applied the theme, I only themed the following:
Android System
Calculator
Google Contacts & Dialer (I did not theme the stock dialer & contacts)
Google App
System UI
Substratum
The rest I left alone, so I never themed the keyboard.
Ok, so as long as you don't try to change the input keyboard it's fine. Sorry for being obtuse.
Always thank those who are helpful...and just ignore those who aren't.
I just tries to apply a Substratum theme and phone got stuck on the Axon boot screen..
What sucked the most was I had just got Project fi working but forgot to make a back up before applying the theme so I had to do that all over again.

No, I am rooted...You have to be to use Substratum. After some issues with reboots getting stuck on the "Axon" logo, I have not themed anything else (after the last clean flash of B29) other than the PlayStore (made it dark). I'm going to wait until it's fully compatible now.
That just frustrates me. My busy box is updated.... It just won't compile. I am rooted. 2.78. I want to try different themes.... At least Gmail and play store. It really would make the system ui pop.... If the white could be replaced.

I thought that Substratum required "Masquerade" to be built into the ROM for Substratum to work, which this one does not have. Correct?
I think you are correct. But I read others have had it work so I was seeing if I was missing something.

I had that same problem until I disabled write protection, but you said your busy box is up to date I assume you've done that. My busy box not updating was the first clue that it was enable, then trying to modify build.prop and moving apps needed for project to system(I actually ended up just flashing gapps with google dialer, GSC and Project fi).
Once I got mine to compile I themed a lot more things than the Op but still not everything and phone wouldn't boot. I haven't tried again yet with only applying them to a few things but I've heard more recent builds of substratum have been having issues on non Nexus devices so thought that might be what happened with me.
BTW does anyone know if there's a way to remove the theme in recovery like with the old layers themes? I don't recall ever reading anything about it after the switch to substratum and couldn't find anything when phone wouldn't boot so i just flashed an oldish(missing project fi mods) system backup(on my Nexus if something went wrong with layers I'd just reflash vender image-seemed easier than deleting files).

I am pretty sure that you nailed it. I think my write protection is enabled. I have a root Explorer that offers to remount the filesystem so it can be r/w except it fails to complete the process. I had to access my filesystem through twrp file manager to actually change anything system level. But I am rooted, twrp and busybox pro says all good. I think I need to investigate how to get r/w access (like root does or should do).
And yes, there is an overlay file you can access through twrp that will save you if you bootloop. But also, in your home folder, there is an easier way to save yourself from a bootloop. The substratum folder is created when installed and inside the folder is 2 flashable zips. One for legacy and other. In case of emergency.
* I just checked and my busybox is 1.18.4. I can install without errors but it does not actually install. When I reload busybox it only shows old busybox...
++ got it. I had to TWRP, terminal: reboot disemmcwp
--- just finished installing Biohazard substratum and the only issue is the Android setting text is dark and almost unreadable. But everything else looks great! BTW I use tbo SwiftKey for my keyboard so I don't know if the keyboard is still causing problems.

That may be why I get stuck at the boot logo when I apply more than the PlayStore....But It does work, other than messing up on the reboot after the theme is applied and working.
I'm currently running my PlayStore with a dark theme.....Was on Stock/rooted B29, now I'm using DrakenFX custom ROM.
I just tried applying Spectrum theme again but only android system, system UI and a few apps, still got stuck on boot.
I guess I'll try a simpler theme like biohazard and wait for a AOSP ROM before trying Spectrum again.
Biohazard rebooted when I opened Google photos. Then I tried Domination. Everything seemed OK. Then I tried spectrum and everything was great EXCEPT when I used my chase bank app and the location /GPS appeared and caused a reboot. Tried it again and same results.
I will keep trying different variations. I love substratum.

I love it too..... But I don't want to get stuck at the "Axon" boot logo again and have to wipe and start over (again, for the 3rd time). So, I'll wait to theme more until it gets worked out.
I know the keyboard selector crashed it, as well as holding the power button to get the "reboot" menu, but I use a different reboot menu now so that didn't matter.....But sometimes, I'd hold it too long by mistake and it'd reboot on me anyways.
When installing substratum, a folder is created in your home files. Inside the substratum folder is two zip files. Both are a recovery file that removes overlays. I used it to save myself about an hour ago.
After trying lots of good themes, I seem to have found one that is trouble free. Every attempt to cause a reboot fails. All past problems are now uncreatable .... But it might just be that I have not found the problem yet. If I do I will update my story. But..
The theme is called SHARKPIE magpie theme. By setiawanjimmy
I finally bit the bullet and updates to 8.1 beta. It's nice. I definitely like the update. I find it weird that the update wiped my wifi passwords, but whatever.
The only real issue I have is that Unique Controls has like a 90 second lag. I tried LMT for pie, but that has no effect at all. Does anyone have a working pie control now on 8.1?
Is working fine...

Before using you have to hide navbar permanently
Good old LMT Launcher is still around and being developed. Still works.

Yes, apparently I had to reboot to get LMT to start correctly. Thank you

Unrooted stock 8.1b1, you really cannot. Something in the 8.1b1 coding breaks the traditional ways of hiding/disabling navbar...the only workaround for 8.1b1` is the following ADB shell command:
Code:
adb shell wm overscan 0,0,0,-150
The catch with this command....is it will biff your lockscreen shortcuts from view while removing the navbar from view. It doesn't remove/disable the navbar--just causes it to render offscreen
Which if you don't like the result can be undone with:
Code:
adb shell wm overscan 0,0,0,0

If you're rooted, there's a Magisk module to hide navbar you can try. Whereas for example LineageOS 15.1, the navbar hiding module works (there's an immersive mode but it has been fussy for some users as of late).

I don't know what firmware you are on but I can get rid of it if you have root.

I'm stock, so that explains why so many of these kind of almost work. It was close with a few with errors and display glitches.
FYI, I did try the magisk module by Andro Plus, no go there either.
Too bad, thanks.

Are you using magisk manager? Are you talking about the aroma or stand alone zip?

I tried direct install through magisk of your zip from that thread. Re reading, it sounds like I may need to go back to magisk 15.3 on this phone for that to not fail to install.
I will see about trying that tomorrow

A guy told me that but it's working on 16.0 Magisk on my pixels. Essential might be different though.

Like @Skripka wrote, use the "Overscan" command in ADB

I tried that variation, it actually doesn't play well with my preferred launcher. It ostensibly works, but because the screen size doesn't match the display, the bottom row of icons looks funky.
I may just live with the bar until beta 2 it release. Couldn't be that long, right?
I've been using swiftly switch which you can configure to work like pie controls. No lag and has option for favorite apps shortcuts.

Good news, since I applied the full update, we're good hiding the status bar again. It was automatically there after the update, so it must be one of the magisk mods.
