I don't even know lol - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Its been a very long time since I've had to dig this deep into flashing and I've always been a Samsung user so I'm somewhat use to the less difficult route. I'm running the 4.4.4 mokee ROM with the kitkat boot loader. Im trying to get miui running on my phone. The miui ROM is on 4.2.2 and I'm guessing requires a JB bootloader to flash. So my question is, is there a pre-rooted rsd package to get back to 4.2.2 so I can flash miui or do I have to flash back to stock, re-root and re-flash a custom recovery? Honestly I'm trying to get back for stability also. Unless someone knows where a KitKat miui ROM is for our phone? Other than the "V6" tablet ui ROM. It isn't no where stable enough.

simplest route for you: install rsdlite, flash stock 4.4.2 which will upgrade you to kk bootloader. then install supersu from play store, then towelroot and root your phone. thereafter, use motocalypse to unlock bootloader.
after that you are free to pick and choose which rom you want to install. if you wish to install a jb rom, you will have to downgrade to jb bootloader. otherwise, you're free to install your favorite recovery followed by your favorite kk rom while still on the kk bootloader

You don't have to be rooted to flash custom recoveries, so just downgrade to stock 4.1.2 (there was no 4.2) and then flash a custom recovery for the old bootloader.

I flashed the JB file but it failed to flash a 4.2.2 ROM...since it flashes back to 4.1.2 would I have to flash a 4.1.2 based ROM and then flash a 4.2.2 rom?

If meant for 4.1.2 kernel then use flash back 4.1.2 then when recovery reboots flash the 4.1.2bl rom. Which 4.2.2 ROM are you trying?
We cannot teach people anything; we can only help them discover it within themselves.

Miui. I'm gonna try the 4.1.2 miui and then after it boots see if it will flash the 4.2.2 ROM.

I can't get any jb ROM to flash using the flashback zip... I guess rsd it is

going back to custom 4.2.2 rom from stock 4.3

I had cm 10.1.2 earlier.
I installed the stock 4.3 via flash-all.bat. installed TWRP 2.6.0 again and rooted (supersu 1.43).
if I want to go back to some custom 4.2.2 rom, do I need to flash stock 4.2.2 again (to get the old radio) and then only flash custom rom?
will it work if i simply flash a 4.2.2. custom rom via TWRP?
thanks.

all you have to do is flash a custom rom in recovery... all you had to do to update was flash a stock rooted 4.3 as well. Just as an fyi for future reference
everything is flashable radios bootloader roms.... Just read up before doing anything all your questions and answers can generally be found in the stickies
Thanks for fast reply.
I guess I wanted to know whether a ROM and radio go together. Since I already have new radio from 4.3, will it work if I simply flash a 4.2.2 ROM.
I guess I should have read more here. Thanks.

Android 4.4.2 and MDL bootloader on I337

I have I337 with MDL bootloader. Omega 19 (4.3), MK2 GSM modem and MDL LTE modem.
New Omega 20 based on leaked 4.4.2 come.
I read Omega 20 installation notes than it works only with new 4.4.2 bootloder.
Does this means that the only way to install 4.4.2 is wait i337 4.4.2 stock, flash it and use safe strap.
PS
Is LOKI kernel for 4.4.2 TW available?
Was kinda wondering this myself.
I'm on 4.4.2 GE ROM, I assume just flashing a 4.4 ROM updates your bootloader but strangely I don't see any 4.4 TW ROMs in our Dev section yet?
Was hoping somebody has flashed an Intl 4.4 ROM with loki-doki and all was good.

Flashing a rom only updates the system and kernel. The modem, bootloader, and recovery stay intact. Odin packages contain the bootloader and modem. These are all on separate partitions.
The 4.4.2 released was a i9505 rom and only for them. You can be on an older bootloader and flash newer android version roms but you can't do the opposite and say flash a 2.3 rom while you on a 4.0 rom.
Also most people don't want the permanence of being stuck on a leak release and not being able to go back.

Ahh ok, so I really do still have an MDL bootloader huh (even though I've flashed different modems).
But I can switch from a 4.4 GE/CM ROM to any 4.3 or 4.2.2 if I choose, so what do you mean not being able to go back?

MDL was the second update I believe (right after release) for 4.2.2 before the the lock. Once you update the bootloader on these lock bootloaders (even MDL is locked, just has a loki work around) you can't go back. The bootloaders are going to be locked and you wont be able to flash a Odin .tar and go back. You are on there. YOu can flash 4.4 roms on a 4.2.2 bootloader but not a 4.2 rom on a 4.4 bootloader.
Alrighty, so to answer OP's question.
You should be fine to flash new Omega with a wipe of Cache/Davlik/System/Data followed by loki-doki.

Omega (and all custom ROMs) wouldn't include the bootloader as you mentioned in your first reply...

It's true.
I am confused by what I read in the installation Instructions for Omega v20:
Installation:
1. Backup your device (nadroid backup, titanium backup, efs backup ... etc) and save the backup to a safe place.
2. Flash the new bootloder and modems with odin -> I9505XXUFNA1_Bootloader_Modems.tar

Flashing CM11 on Knox-Enabled Device

Hi there,
I have a Galaxy S4 i9505 with official Samsung 4.3 Stock ROM from a different country which I had flashed using ODIN a while ago. I already have my knox counter tripped to 0x1 because I had also installed custom recovery and rooted.
Would I be able to flash CM11 (Android Version 4.4) on to this and then if I don't like it or want to return back to this exact version I have now by a Nandroid backup, could I?
I have searched around and can't seem to find the answer and want to get rid of Touchwiz (like nearly everyone else)
Baseband Version: i9505XXUEMK8
Build Number: JSS15J. I9505XXUEMK8
Thank you in advance

Yes you can easily return back to the saved nandroid backup you have in recovery
I first started on cm11 before picking a daily ROM that was suitable for me
Happy flashing

I have read somewhere that if the build number is updated then you cannot downgrade or something?
Was yours a knox enabled rom and have you tried going back to it?

Apparently once you update to 4.4.2 you can't downgrade to 4.3 but IMHO why you would want to go back is beyond me ? Mine was on Knox after 4.3 ota but took the plunge & glad I did & wouldn't need to go back to an outdated OS. My baseband has stayed mk9 even after trying a few ROMs & love the smoothness of Google edition ROMs over cm11
I would suggest making the move over to kk & trying a few ROMs out there.

I have been on CM10.1 before and the only reason I went back to Touchwiz was because there was bugs with it and that's the same reason I might want to go back if I flash it now so I just want to be sure
I was thinking that if I update and my baseband/build number stay the same then I might be able to downgrade again if I wanted to later?
Absolutely hate Touchwiz right now but everything works too

I wouldn't like to say that if baseband stays same that you could go back for sure ? Touchwiz is just too bloated IMO that's why I decided on a custom ROM ?
I found cm11 okay but feel that kk GE is so much fluid :highfive:
I think it isn't possible to go from a knox-enabled rom to one without knox?
So I have knox-enabled 4 right now and guessing when I go on CM11 it'll still be there so when I try to downgrade I should be able to?
As it's not going from 4.3 (knox-enabled) to 4.2 (knox-disabled) but from 4.4 (knox-enabled?) to 4.3 (knox-enabled)
I'm not really sure but can someone give us some help .

So you was able to go from one CM11 to GE which both are on 4.4?
I think I'll update to stock 4.4 and then from there create another nandroid and move about ROMs? Would that work?

Yes initially I was on stock 4.3 then went on cm11 for a week or so then started trying out GE ROMs ?
If I needed to go back to official stock (warranty) I would just find & flash 1 through Odin :fingers-crossed:

If you needed to go back would you go back to an official 4.4 or 4.3 then?
Do you think it would be a good idea to just titaniumbackup everything and Nandroid and flash cm11 and so if there are any problems I could just flash stock 4.4 and install all the apps back via titanium backup?
Would there be a problem with the bootloader?

If I needed to go official I would flash back to 4.3 as that's what I'm meant to be on.
Always make a backup before flashing that way you can reinstall.
Can't see a problem with bootloader even if you had to flash official I would just use chainfire to gain recovery/root again ?

But this new knox thing on the S4 means you can't downgrade the bootloader or something. So I think going from 4.4 to 4.3 is downgrading the bootloader? And so would risk bricking your device which is why I don't want to attempt it unless someone has done it and had to problem

You are already on the new bootloader with Knox triggered so there is no downgrading to old bootloader.
You are safe to stay on 4.3 but if you put 4.4 or cm11 on your phone you may not be able to go back to an earlier version?
Hi, I hope I can clear something here. If you are on stock 4.3, rooted and Knox 0x1, you can flash cm and you can restore your 4.3 backup. If you once triggered your Knox to 0x1, it's not possible to get it back to 0x0.
If you flash a stock Samsung 4.4.2 KitKat with the new KitKat bootloader, you can restore any custom 4.3 ROM. You can not flash a 4.3 stock ROM with Odin once you are on the KitKat bootloader. In this case you have to flash a stock KitKat ROM.
Another thing: if you now are on a 4.3 bootloader and you flash a 4.4 ROM, it could break wifi. But there are fixes possible with editing the build.prop.
So fact is, no matter what ever you do, if your Knox is already 0x1, it's not possible to get back to 0x0.

Hi there and thanks for your help but could I clear this up
You said 'If you are on stock 4.3, rooted and Knox 0x1, you can flash cm and you can restore your 4.3 backup.'
I am on stock 4.3, did you mean CM10.1 (Android 4.3) or CM11 (Android 4.4)? And if CM11 then that would mean I could go to android 4.4 and then back down to 4.3 stock if I wanted?
And flashing a KitKat ROM on 4.3 ROM would give me that wifi problem?
So do you think I should flash stock 4.4 using Odin and then flash CM11.. and then if wanted I could just go back to stock 4.4? Would there be a change in bootloader between 4.4 roms?
Hope you understood this, thanks again

If you want 4.4, you can flash the stock Samsung package including the newest bootloader and modem. Wifi and everything else will work then. Once you are on the 4.4 bootloader, you can switch between all 4.4 ROMS, stock or custom. You be able to Odin flash the stock Samsung 4.4 ROM again. But you can not flash a STOCK SAMSUNG 4.3 ROM again. 4.3 CUSTOM Rom is possible.
Remember: if you flash the Samsung stock 4.4 package, you have to root and flash a custom recovery before you can flash cm11 I suggest TWRP 2.6.3.1, works perfect.

Hmm, would I need to delete data and stuff when flashing stock 4.4? If it does, titaniumbackup backup/restore should work fine?
I will flash twrp custom recovery using odin but how about a root? Which root works on 4.4 with knox?
Thanks

Returning to stock australian 9505

Hey guys was hoping to get a little help. I am currently running foxhound 4.1 on my S4. The baseband version is I9505XXUFNA5. Its OS 4.4.2. In the process of flashing this rom according to the instructions on the dev thread said i had to flash a different bootloader and modem before flashing the rom. This process worked fine and i have been running without issue. Work has now decided that they want everyone on Android 4.3 so we can use apps they made to make our job easier so i need to go back to 4.3. I attempted this last night and when i try to flash a 4.3 rom via cwm it returns an error saying that the bootloader is the incorrect one and fails and i have to reinstall foxhound again to make the phone usable. Any one know how i go about getting back to 4.3 or where to get the correct bootloader and modem so i can flash them via odin and then install Androind 4.3? Any help would be very much appreciated.
Cheers Jeff
Nobody can downgrade from 4.4.2

Nope not at this stage cannot downgrade to older bootloader, sorry.
The best you can do is install a 4.3 custom rom. Try an echoe rom, version 12.1 the final bean I think should do.

[Q] switching between lollipop roms

Hi, my g2 is running stock lollipop. If I want to try an aosp lollipop based rom I just need to wipe the old system and flash the new one? I do not have to flash any other stuff life "back to kk" or be worried about the sensors or modem, or recoveries am I right?
anyone?
no sir, if you are on stock Lollipop you are not clear to flash any ROM's, do you have a custom recovery?
Apologies, as I have not tried the OTA lollipop....how is it? Worth trying in place of a constantly rebooting CM12-based phone?
You will need to be running a 4.3 bootloader before flashing the Lollipop ROM's, so you will need to take some steps to downgrade.
