What would you do - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I currently have a note 2 and I'm debating if I should buy a note 3 of the classifieds or wait for the note 4. I'm new to the note 3 forums and not sure if the note 3 can be rooted and unlocked. The way Samsung is going, idk if the note 4 will be unlock able or even rooted. So idk what to do. My note 2 is starting to get real beat up and I don't know which route I should go. Any input would help. Thanks in advance!!!

wait for note 4
it will be 64 bit and 4 GB ram
and we always find a way to root our phone.

Those specs are speculated as no official info on the N4 has been released, and the only leaked info (which was a pic of a manufacturer's spec list which could be easily faked) actually shows 3gb ram.
We won't know anything until Samsung announces the N4 in September as expected, and given Verizon's recent track record the N4 may be out for a while before a method for root is found.

it will definitely have 4 GB ram as Android L will support it
and its better to wait for a better phone than regret later.

I don't disagree with you there, September is not that far away.

Will Note 3 get Android L update?

Hi guys,
I am about to buy a Galaxy Note 3, will be getting one within next 2-3 days. I am choosing this over the S5. But S5 is the newer device, so it will get more updates from Samsung I am sure, but will the Note 3 get Android L update which is coming soon?
Thanks in advance.
@devilsdouble I dont think it will get in next few days but months.

With the specs on the Note 3? If it doesn't then there's something wrong.
if it's not with official way, it will be with custom roms....
Yes not before 2015 after completing 4.4.4 update for all variants
Thanks guys. I wasn't expecting a quick update, if it comes in early 2015 then it is more than okay for me. But the question is will Samsung support this device till then?
Oh I have another important query. I was thinking about getting the N9005 model, the Snapdragon variant. It is not officially available here in my country, so I won't be getting any warranty, that's all right by me, but I have seen a topic called "regional lock" in General section, I wonder what that is! If I get a N9005 won't I be able to use it here? What the heck is this regional lock? Isn't there a way around of that bloody thing?

Usual crowd is already here, but this is one phone that gets a pass from me. Really nothing on offer here, makes it any superior to Note 4, which itself is a bit of a disaster right now on the current firmware. (disclosure i am comparing it to a nexus 6)

Which is not worth dropping 50k on for (after exchange). Considering it's a downgrade even on size. I currently am using an iPhone 6+ 128 which is nearly full and that's the only way i get with using my nexus 64 for only work.

[DISCUSSION] Should I Jump Ship?

I've had my Galaxy Note 4 for a while now and I'm starting to look at a few of the new flagships for 2016. The Google Nexus 6P looks very promising to have and looks like a great device overall. There's also the HTC 10 which will be released soon which also looks promising and will get plenty of development I assume.
Would anyone care to share your story? Should I purchase a Google Nexus 6P or wait for this years line up?
If you want to convince me to stay on the Note 4 I encourage you.

I am personally not leaving my Note 4 until it dies, or if the Note 6 brings back all the features I love that the Note5 **** on. I actually upgraded to the Note 5 and after 2 months decided it was not usable for me so I got a Note 4.
I personally can't live without 4 things the Note 4 has the Note 5 doesn't:
removable battery (Every phone I have owned in the past few years has been run with the ZeroLemon extended battery and rugged case)
MicroSD card slot (makes switching ROMs so much easier, I am a flashaholic)
IR Blaster (this one isn't as big as the other 2, but is still sooo nice to have and I see no reason any phone shouldn't have it)
Custom ROMs (The Note 5 being an Exynox only phone has not gotten any custom AOSP based ROMs yet, only stock based ROMs. Now, some of those ROMs are awesome, and even on my Note 4 I only run stock based ROMs because the AOSP ROMs don't work well enough with the SPen, but it is really nice to have the choice)
I would not buy the Nexus 6P, overall it looks like a good phone, but I am not the most gentle person with my phones, haven't broken one in a few years but I tend to drop them quite a bit and the 6P has some serious structural issues. Look up Jerryrigeverything's stress test video of the 6P on youtube. Huge disappointment for a Nexus device, and at that price.
I am confident the Note 6 will be too similar to the S7, no removable battery, possibly no IR blaster, it will probably have a similar style MicroSD card slot, but if it sucks like the S7 does, especially with the same style locked bootloader I will not be upgrading. The Note 4 is still an awesome phone, and we should be getting official MM within the next few weeks.

I update phones every year but since I considered the Note 5 a downgrade, I upgraded my Note 4 with another Note 4. I am no longer in the business if updating for the sake of updating. If the Note 6 doesn't bring back the SD card and IR blaster and be rootable [must have Viper4Android], I'll buy another Note 4. Samsung hit the sweet spot with the 4.
I used to update my phone all the time. But ever since Sammy turned its back on our community by locking the bootloaders (yeah yeah I'm sure it's the carriers fault don't care) I'll be sticking with my tmo note 4 running on att network. Note 6 looks cool but I need root and want the option to run custom roms. That and I need superior camera and for me note 4 is it. The new modular HTC phone looks interesting.

Is there really a OP3 in the making? The OP2 seems to have less of what was in the OPO
Just this morning I read an article on ArsTechnica (and as I glance to the right, apparently there's one to check out on the XDA Portal as well) on the next Nexus devices, reportedly to be built by HTC. I'd be pretty interested to see what those have to offer before upgrading my (still solid - the N4 is one device that I plan to keep rather than sell) phone. The 6P looks nice, but I'd be unwilling to sacrifice expandable storage... I'm hopeful that Google will allow(?) an SD slot in these upcoming devices due to N's new storage scheme.
Good luck whatever you decide!

I'm definitely waiting for this beast to come out. I've been a loyal fan of the galaxy series since the beginning, however the phones are too pricey and I need to explore other cheaper and reliable options in the future.
The Moto X Pure/Style is a 5.7" slim phone, same size as the Note 3 and Note 4.
Screen is as bright as the Note 4 in sunlight.
The bootloader is unlocked easily through Motorola and CM/AOSP ROM's are in abundance.
Phone works and is supported on all major carriers, including Verizon LTE.
Other than the Nexus 6P, it's really the only newer/good phone out that is 5.5" or larger screen size and has active development and works on ALL carriers.
I came from Note 3 and Note 4 and am happy with the phone.
Performance is about the same as Note 4 though.
I'm personally waiting to see what the next nexus looks like. Or I might jump on the HTC 10 if I get impatient. That should be a very ROM friendly phone

I understand upgrading every year to a newer model, but why upgrade to the same phone? I am still on Note 4 I got through a pre-order and it works just fine. Just curious.
I've had (since Jan) LG G4, Nexus 6p, OnePlusOne, and my Note 4. All other ones didn't come close to the Note.
The 6p was good, but the shoddy build quality and limited storage was a deal breaker for me.
The G4 was great, but locked bootloader and lack of a fingerprint scanner was blah.
As far as phablets go, the Note 4 is still the best you can get.

@MisterCoolBeans
Broad question but an interesting topic. Generally electronics and any other trades, there are years/releases/versions that hold value compared to years/releases/versions that are released as an illusion of an upgrade. Generally best value for the buck is to wait. Since from 1+ years you'll pay from 1/4 less to a fraction of retail. If your company pays for it it's another story. Look at any product/trade sold. New isn't always better, sometimes not just worse but actually costing you more than what use you get out of it. Advertisement/lies work thus advancement for centuries. If you are tempted by supposed improvement I say snap out of it & wait, rely on history. If you need a kick to approve your desire that might be foolish, go and have fun with her, since you won't keep in mind that not only will she bite u in the aa but might also shorten your human lifespan. All up to personal preference:angel:
Current(historical) example. I had s4 before n4. General consensus s5 & n5 is a downgrade. Again look at any other product you've acquired in the past(phones, cars, clothes, hardware, software, utilities, services, relationships, etc). There is a heart beat in your heart and scammers have the same rhythm. That is for centuries if you look at any available history.
Lastly is the reason. Why? To be more efficient and productive? Or to up your neighbor that you have the latest?
Can't control your mind's decision, have a coin choose a path for you easy, just flip it
Written with best wishes to you:good:
My original note 4 had water damage and considered jumping to s7 edge. Note 5 was out of the question. But I wasn't sure I could live without removable battery, SD card slot for my 200gb card, stylus, and lastly give up my IR which I use as my universal remote around the house. I had a feeling if I got an s7 edge I would be happy with it temporarily so I ended up getting another note 4. In my opinion, the note 4 is the Swiss army of all phones. I really love that about the note 4.

It's nice, there's no doubt about that, but I still prefer my Note 4

Why would you buy a new Note 4 3 years in a row? The Note 4 can surely last more than a single year without any issues.

Note 7 anyone?

I'm just wondering if anyone is going to be jumping to the new Note 7 that was shown today? I've owned the Note 2, 3, and 4 Developer Edition, but didn't go with the Note 5 because of the lack of a memory card and no root. Now the Note 7 corrects one of those since it does have the microSD card slot, but I'm going to bet the thing will never get root access or custom ROMs.
I could sell my Note 2, 3, and 4DE to help pay for the 7, or look at going with the Moto Z Force since it also looks pretty good (and I like the Mods).
Anyone else thinking about leaving their Note 4 for a newer model?
I will wait and see if the Note 7 gets root. I will never do what I did with the Note 4 again. Even though I finally got my Note 4 rooted it was so late that there is minimal development for a phone that is 2 generations old.
Dev Converted Jasmine 6.0 MM Wonder
I'm disappointed that the Note 7 appears as a glorified S7. Who's driving all the phones to have edge screens? My wife has a S7 Edge and never uses any of the edge screen options. It was a complete let down to see that the only new option is an iris scanner and water resistance. Funny that they don't mention that the iris scanner doesn't work with glasses or contacts.
I was so looking forward to something better from Samsung.
I may take it for a test drive but I got to have a replacable battery

Wireless Device/Accessory Return Policy
You may return or exchange wireless devices and accessories purchased from Verizon Wireless within 14 days of purchase. A restocking fee of $35 ($70 for netbooks and tablets) applies to any return or exchange of a wireless device (excluding Hawaii).
This return and exchange policy does not apply to customers who have purchased a Prepaid Plan.
nah...I am good with my Note 4 for now. I will see if it gets root and then possibly rethink my decision. I could care less about an iris scanner.
I just bought a Note 4 after seeing the Note 7. I haven't had a Note since the 1 and 2 versions, and I miss it. I just hope I can root it after updating to 6.0
I am totally disenchanted with Samsung right now. I have a Tab S 10.5 32GB, an S2 9.7, a Note 4 and a Gear VR. I'll be dumping all of them other than 1 of the tablets because of Samsung's ridiculous treatment of their users with buggy, delayed, and non-existant updates. The Note 4 got worse and worse after its awesome launch with KitKat. Having a Samsung device with a sealed battery terrifies me.
There's not enough to excite me about the Note 7 that I'm willing to pay almost $800 for one.
no way. I got CM13 on this thing after almost 2 years, I'm finally happy with it. I'm pretty sure this is going to be my last ever Samsung phone.

Since the Z Force lacks a stylus, a micro sd card slot, and the fact that it's Motorola. I haven't even considered it. But upon reviewing the specs and reading hands on reviews with it, it does sound like a good device. But to be honest, I just haven't given Motorola a chance since the Droid Ultra.
The mods for the Z Force are cool, but I just don't think its enough to drag me away from the Note line (I LOVE the big screens and the stylus). I also love a micro sd card slot and removable batteries. But I know with the Note 7, I'll have to give up the removable battery part.

The Moto Z and Z Force does have a microSD slot, but gives up the 3.5mm headphone jack for the USB-C. At least with the Note 7 it has all of that and Stylus. That is why (if) I upgraded from the Note 4, I'd rather go to the Note 7.
The lowest price I've found is Best Buy that has it for $349 with a 2 year contract. I've been out of contract for many years, so don't mind doing that. I'm just not sure if Verizon increases the line access fee. I'm currently on the 6GB Verizon Plan.

I definitely agree with this. This Note 4 is the first phone in a while that I've actually stuck with for a while 2 years, but I feel like the Note 7 would be a worthy upgrade.
Now, if I had a Note 5, then I may not be so quick to make the upgrade.

But on the Note 5 they took away the microSD slot, so for those people it would be an upgrade to go with the Note 7 since it does have that.
I see no need to upgrade my phone, now. My rooted Note 4 works great. I'm using the PaulPizz ROM. When I upgraded TO my Note 4, my previous phone, DROID RAZR MAXX, was lagging horribly. If/when I get to that point, I'll see about upgrading, then. At this rate, who knows, maybe it'll be another year, maybe two, I hope. Hopefully, Android 7.0 ROMs are created for the Note 4, soon. I might jump ship as soon as forward development stops. Of course, with a new unit, we all have learned out lesson about being so quick to jump on something brand new, due to the fact that obtaining root is next to impossible, nowadays with retail phones.
Anyone know if a Developer Edition will be released?

If/when I get to that point, I'll see about upgrading, then. At this rate, who knows, maybe it'll be another year, maybe two, I hope. Hopefully, Android 7.0 ROMs are created for the Note 4, soon. I might jump ship as soon as forward development stops. Of course, with a new unit, we all have learned out lesson about being so quick to jump on something brand new, due to the fact that obtaining root is next to impossible, nowadays with retail phones.
Anyone know if a Developer Edition will be released?

I've been using MOROM on my Note 4 DE for the past year, but has really gotten sluggish over the past few months.
Since there wasn't a Note 5 Developer Edition, I doubt there would be one on the Note 7, as most likely Samsung Pay and Android Pay wouldn't work, and it may make the iris scanner less secure.
played abit with the note7 at best buy today. really wasn't impressed at all. sigh. the edges were distracting too.didn't seem that fast/snappy.
If my Note 4 goes bad I'm probably getting another Note 4 lol

Is it the Right Time to buy a new Smartphone?

I wanted to ask if it's worth buying another Note 4 within this year and 2018. I currently have the SM-N910H variant (Exynos), but I want to get one that's SM-N910F variant (Snapdragon). I found one that's about $480 but it's refurbished. Should I consider getting it or should I go for something else? Also forgot to mention that I have a spare ZeroLemon extended battery, since I have a TQTHL extended battery. So that's also why I want to get another Note 4 so I could put it to good use. Thanks In Advance.
Edit: Okay, so I wanted to revive this thread after a couple of months for any new insights on what smartphone to get. So far this year has been somewhat promising, with some disappointments about no headphone jacks and notches. But overall, I'm not sure if it's a good time to consider buying one or holding off till next year. I plan to get the Oneplus 5T during this summer, since the phone does seem like a worthy buy for about 400-500 dollars. I was also thinking about the note 8 or 9, but I don't want to sacrifice an arm and a leg for it. And I've lost faith in Huawei after their announcement about no more unlocked bootloaders. I know that there are plenty more to come, especially during the fall, but will it be worth the wait, since many new smartphones seem to follow the design of notches and no headphone jacks.

480$ refurbished WTF ! In my country i just got refurbished note 4 snapdragon N910T and exynos N910L 2 devices in 280$.
Note 4 is still good device but its kind of old now if your budget is 500$ i highly recommend you (one+5) its super fast device 8gb ram+snapdragon 835 dual rear camera etc or my second recommendation will be (s7 edge EXYNOS) excellent device all around.

Thx for the info. I might consider about the OnePlus 5. Actually I did see a Note 4 Snapdragon SM-N910F on Amazon priced at about $268 but the condition of it was used.

I did find one for about $268 dollars, however it has been used though. Also I'm mainly looking for a Snapdragon one since I have the Exynos one already. But I might consider browsing a bit on eBay instead of Amazon.
Personally I would rather get a N910C as the N910F isn't very stable and has a tendency to overheat.
Keeping in mind the eMMC issue that so many on the forums have faced, the refurbished or used Note 4 could be a ticking time bomb. Perhaps better to put your money towards a new phone or at least a phone which doesn't have a history of hardware failures.
i found a N910T on ebay new for 238.00 hopefully it is new. how can you tell if its been referbished? Im switching back from the I 6Splus and cant wait.

I don't know about the C version, but my F version, after a little more than 2.5 years, it overheats for sure. When this happens, it is impossible to use it until it cools down.

I can personally vouch for the N910C. As it runs on the more stable Exynos 5433 SOC.
I just keep rebuilding my note 4 once you get good at seperating the bezel without craking the screen . U can repair any internal issues without haveing to buy a new screen every time. All the new notes have stripped down features. I need my ir blaster and removable battery I don't want to dismantle the phone just to replace the battery each year.
I think this note 4 will be my last phone, simply of the battery removal, and can tack on a 10000mah battery on longer trips, not to mention if you compare the specs between NOTE 4 and the new Iphone X, Note 4 Wins in many categories especially the screen and camera areas, also compare the note 4 to the note 8. Specs are comparable for this 3 year old phone. Works very well. But to @[OP] $480 is bit much. I paid $100 for mine, and they are about 180ish or so around my area.
I'd avoid any Snapdragon-based Note 4s if I were you. Apart from the overheat issue, the Snapdragon variants also suffer from the infamous EMMC issue, which is a deal-breaker.
to me, exynos is the best choice

Except the fact snapdragon version have much more custom ROMs (nougat fully working including, + oreo to come). Well if you have account on xda... then you probably will count it like a big plus

Well that is true that Snapdragon does have a fully working port for nougat. But there is currently a developer who's working on porting nougat onto our Exynos devices. Many devs have given up on it but I feel like he might be the one to get it to work.
I'm still using using my 2.5+ years old n910c with a slightly newer battery and it never disappointed me so far .
Till today I haven't found any phone to be strictly better . All new phones have over note 4 are better SoC and Camera . But the new designs I don't like so much , not to mention luck of removable battery, SD cards, infrared , a proper load speaker etc.
The best upgrade for a note 4 would probably be note 8, but that's insanely priced so...
If you have the money you could get a Mate 9 and that would be a nice moderate upgrade too .

Hello there. Totally worth it. Mine N910F is the best so far. Even G935F and G928F was my ex-phones and the only one pros was the 1h sot over my note 4 snapdragon.
