[Q] Freezing - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have rooted my phone and its been months now. Have used different roms like gummy, Nameless, Mahdi etc. Recently I had Nameless rom and 3 days back, my phone started freezing when the screen timed out and also froze when there was no sound. I updated the rom but still faced the same problem. Changed to Mahdi but same problem again. Finally I went back to gummy and I face same problem here too. I have done everything except unrooting and going back to Samsung rom.
Pls help me. I cannot understand what is wrong with my phone.

Hi,
Most of this problems come from flashing , did you full wipe / clear dalvik and cache before installing rom?

Hi ,
Did work fine for 2-3 days? maybe something you installed or restore from you back up.
I would flash rom again No wipe and see how it works , if is working fine i will restore only apps ( not system data) one by one and see if you find the culprit

4 days back I installed Nameless updated version and flashed it by wiping data cache and dalvik. I m guessing this problem started after installing the Nameless version. But now I'm off Nameless. I'm back to gummy and I just found that my sounds r not working well and I can't speak or hear when I receive or make a call. Should I just unroot my phone and get the stock firmware? Doing this will it get the phone back to normal?

Flashing stock is an option but before that
I have Philz touch
Make a nandroid back up and copy it with the rom you want to use in your external SD , copy all your music , data , pictures from the internal SD to the external SD
Wipe data / factory reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvick
Mounts and Storage / format /data and /data /media (/sdcard) to clean any possible leftover file from any other rom
Now flash your rom from Sdcard1
If does not work go back to stock a re start all over...

Old ROM sounds on my recovered STOCK Rom

Hello, ive just had a Custom MoonRom installed on my Galaxy s Plus (i9001) and i recovered to the stockrom, but the keyboard and phone sound from the CUSTOM Rom is still there. i have clockworkmod installed i want to format system and data, will this delete all or can i still connect the device to odin and it wil notice it?
So i just want to now if there is a way to removed the old keyboard and phone sounds, or just make sure that all things from the old rom is gone.
-Thanks guys
plzzz help! ive tried to format system, but the problem is still there.
How do i fix the problem!?
Did you wipe cache, dalvik cache and data/factory reset?
Sent from my Xperia Arc using XDA
Yes i have done that, ive also reflashed about 10 times, and the problem still exists.
Its so annoying..
Plzzzz help anyone, anyone??

nexus 7 wont boot....... kinda

So ive had my n7 for a while and had over 10 different roms that i went through before landing on cookies and cream for 4.1.2 and cyanogenmod for 4.2.1
Well heres the problem. i was getting pissed off at all of the bugs and random reboots and incompatabilities so i fully wiped the device, minus bootloader, and flashed stock 4.1.2, it booted great
heres where it went wrong... i tried flashing cyanogenmod 10 via twrp, letting it use its stock kernel and even trying a different cm compatible kernel after booting failed.
when that didnt work i went back to stock, downloaded cookies and cream, wiped the rom, cache and dalvik cache. still bootloops
so i was like F**k it, and installed stock 4.2.1, booted fine.
tried again with the 2 latest cyanogenmod nightlies, which i know worked fine from before
still just bootloops with no idea how to fix it.
just to be clear, stock works, custom WILL NOT
bump guys, im kinda up **** creek without a paddle, emphasis on the kinda part
I have a similar problem(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2073977). Pretty much the only way I can get a ROM to stick is if I wipe /data as well. Not sure what's causing this, but I'm working on it. I think it could have something to do with the way that android stores some of it's /system data in /data at times
What's worked for me to flash a ROM other than stock, is to wipe the entire thing, and then use adb sideload to load the ROM.
Hey bro, i saw your thread before, by data, do you mean internal storage or just the system rom itself, because i wiped everything but the bootloader and started from scratch
I'm just talking about /data. An hour ago I noticed that as long as I use the Factory Reset option in TWRP, it will wipe it, and not touch the stuff on the sdcard(it could be just me though, my Nexus seems to be kinda weird). Then I wipe system, and flash whatever I need to.
Alright, one problem though, doing a factory reset deletes everything on the sdcard then when i try to use fastboot to flash cyanogenmod in a zip format it says stuff like android-product-info.txt is missing and whatnot, what do you do?
edit, dont read the part about wiping storage, i had a idiot moment there, ill give it a shot

[Q] Volume buttons not working

Hi folks.
I got the Nexus 4 a few days ago and I've noticed that the volume buttons do not work.
I've performed a factory reset but that didn't solve the problem.
Is there some setting I'm missing or do you think it's a hardware issue?
Mine was working fine until 2 days ago when i updated to stock 4.2.2 via OTA.
Performing nandroid restores from known working volume backups does not work (i tried 4.2.1 Stock, and Slim Mako ROM)
Performing new ROM installs does not work (i tried Slim Mako ROM, Motoblur ROM, CM10 and kfheaven) .
I only did a wipe data and cache, i should try wiping dalvik - though i dont see how it would help.
Any thoughts would be great

I contacted Google support yesterday by email but haven't heard back from them.
I got the phone on Saturday and updated to 4.2.2 straight away so I don't know if the volume buttons were working before the update.
I'll let you know what they say when they get back to me. If you find a solution before then please let me know.

[Q] Problems with Process System on PA 3.98

Hi!
I recently updated my ROM to the Paranoid Android 3.98, I did a full wipe, flashed the ROM, latest Gapps (with TWRP) and ever since the tablet has been become really laggy on opening apps or doing anything. I realised something was wrong straight after I booted it up by how long it was taking to connect to the WIFI etc.
Anyway, its hanging a lot on the unlock screen and sometimes I get a "Process System is not Responding" prompt. I've tried going back into recovery and clearing the caches/data again and its still hanging. Ive also tried using CWM recovery to wipe the tablet, flash the ROM/Gapps etc and its still really slow. Lastly, I just tried a factory reset from the settings menu and again, its still the same!
Any ideas on whats up with it and how to sort it out? I was thinking about unrooting it back to stock although I think the problem will still probably happen. I came from the PA 3.95 build and did a clean flash.
Cheers!
Chris
I think I have fixed it by following a post by Chasmodo on how to do a super-clean install.
1) I booted into recovery.
2) Did the three wipes (Data, Cache, Dalvik) several times over.
3) Went to Mount & Storage and formatted both system & cache*.
4) Flashed PA 3.98 & latest PA-Gapps.
5) Wiped both caches again and rebooted.
As soon as connecting WIFI, signing into Google I could tell it was running a lot faster again and now the lag on the unlock screen & opening apps seems to have stopped, also haven't had the "System Process isn't Responding since."
*Chasmodos version of the super-clean install didn't say to format the cache as well although I had tried just formatting the system and it didn't fix the issue. So I thought I'd try the same process with a cache format as well and now all issues seem to have been rectified.
Cheers
Chris

SM-N900 problem flashing rom

hey there,
I flashed some custom roms months ago and everything went fine.
Now no matter what roms I take in Exynos Section, Im getting bootloops.
Installing is fine i dont get any error. I wipe everything from cache, data, dlvik, factory reset and I still get the bootloops. It happened on 3 different roms now.
Usually a full wipe fixed the problem but now nothing. I can go back to my old custom rom but cant flash any new.
Has this happened to anyone? got a fix for it?
Thanks
