[Q] Automatic Hands-Free Mode Using Bluetooth OBD Adapter - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hopefully I'm not asking about something that's already been answered. But after spending hours on google, forums, etc I'm finding myself at a dead end.
On my note 3 I've got to liking the hands free mode but forgetting to turn it on when I get in the car or even worse, not turning it off when I get out is getting really annoying.
Now unlike most, I don't have bluetooth audio in the car at all. I've never needed it & never will. A simple headset is good enough. Problem is, the headset is always on, driving or not.
So I'm left with the OBD adapter on the car as a potential for letting the phone know I'm driving. But I just can't the damm thing to work.
Now the OBD adapter connects to the phone perfectly fine & I can load up the info in pretty much any app I try. But trying to set the phones "location settings" for the car (using the OBD adapter) just isn't doing anything. No matter how many times I tap the OBD adapter in the menu, it just does nothing. Yet bluetooth audio devices connect right up.
So my question now, is.... can you use the OBD adapter as an option for car location? or is there a way to hack the phone to allow it as an option? or am I just not looking at it right?
Thank's in advance.

Bluetooth Issues

Hi, sorry if this has been discussed somewhere else, but I haven't seen it.
I'm on my second M5k (the first one had serious radio issues), this one has bluetooth problems.
I've paired it with my Parrot car kit (which has always worked fine), but recently the car asks me to pair a device everytime its powered on. Likewise, I've just paired a BT GPS & it's connecting but not really seeing the device. In the BT manager, both devices now have a ? icon on the left rather than a headset etc.
Any ideas whats going on?
Thanks
Check on your outgoing port settings in bluetooth settings, if there is a tick in the secure connection, uncheck it and see if that works.
I had similar issue with bt gps reciever
Nope, not ticked.
On a side note, its been sat next to me for an hour with wifi on, connected to the pc & its just shut down with 52% battery left. When this thing doesnt wanna play, it really is the biggest waste of money i've ever had (course, for that 5 mins that it works properly its the greatest thing i've ever spent my money on).
sorry, thats the extent of my knowledge ... just a newbie
best of luck and keep the faith !
when i have a hard reset my paired devices disconfigured only

[Q] Droid X & Car Receiver Bluetooth Problems

Having problems with my Droid X and car system connecting via Bluetooth.
Random problems:
Often fails to connect at all, other times connects fine or partial.
Transfers the phonbook sometimes and other times it does not.
Connects the audio fine and not the Hands Free.
Sometimes I need to re-pair the entire setup to get it to work at all.
Sometimes I need to power both the phone and receiver down and back up to get it to work.
Does anyone have any ideas on a solution?
It's driving me crazy, want to use the Bluetooth both for the Hands Free and audio streaming.
Droid X, Android Version 2.2.1, System Version Verizon.2.3.340.MBB810.Verizon.en.US
Car System:
Kenwood KDC-X994, built in Bluetooth.
Bluetooth version 3.12.0
My wife's iPhone works fine with this receiver using the Bluetooth.
Thanks
Sorry, my DX connects every time I get in my car (Ford Sync system). Have you tried connecting it to other Bluetooth devices to see if it's maybe the phone itself?
No I have not tried it with another system.
An excellent idea but at this time I do not have access to another receiver with Bluetooth.
Did get an answer from Kenwood that it was not tested with the Droid X but was tested with the Droid.
Wonder if it could be a phone or receiver problem. I need to come up with a way of testing both units on a continuous basis.
The last two days it has connected just fine, but Friday evening it was giving problems.
Thanks for your help.
You can try finding a little cheapo Bluetooth USB receiver from a local store, use it with your laptop or PC, and try pairing your phone with it. Then after you're done testing just return it (make sure there's an open box return policy though!).

Thanks,
I will give that a try, maybe this weekend if I get time.
i have the same phone and Kenwood radio. What I needed to do was this:
Delete any bluetooth devices in the Kenwood radio.
Delete the paired Kenwood device in your phone.
Make the Kenwood discoverable, scan for it with the phone. Once the phone finds the Kenwood pair with it. When the Kenwood requests PBAP access, click allow ONE TIME ONLY. This is the key. I saw the Kenwood send the request several times. If I confirmed the request more than once, the unit acted flaky. Hopefully this will fix your issue. It did for me!
I will give that a try.
The Kenwood does download the phone book everytime it connects.
Sometimes it says completed very quickly and then the HF fails.
Other times it will neve finish downloading.
Thanks
The vast majority of car stereos that support Bluetooth A2DP are notoriously fickle with it. I went to a Car Toys last July after getting my Droid X, and tested literally about 20 different car stereos with playing music over Bluetooth. Half of them would not even pair, most of the rest had various problems like wouldn't play music or it skipped/cut out a lot, etc. Only three manufacturers had multiple units that worked flawlessly: Pioneer, Clarion and Parrot. I asked one of the guys there if this was normal, and he said yeah, A2DP was very poorly supported in most car stereos but that he knew some of the manufacturers were working on making it better for the next year's models.
This doesn't help you, but even though your wife's iPhone works and your DX doesn't, it's unlikely the problem is with your DX.
Roland,
Thanks for the info. Interesting there are so many problems with car stereos.
I will definitely keep this in mind the next time I buy a car stereo.
One interesting item is I rented a Ford Escape for a week and my Droid X worked flawlessly with the Ford factory stereo.
Go figure. It was the high end factory unit, Sat radio, USB port, Bluetooth all built in.

Bluetooth question

I am coming from a long history of HTC use and so I apologise if this question has an obvious answer.
Previously, if I wanted to connect to my bluetooth in the car (previously paired with), I would just hit the bluetooth button in quick settings to turn it on and that was it, just like connecting to wifi.
If I do this on my S7E, I then get another screen popping up that tells me my device is visible to others and lists previously paired devices for me to select from, and then I have push the back button to leave that screen?
Is there a simpler way as I used to do on my HTC?
cheers
C.
PS - I am sure this will be the first of a number of questions as I get used to TouchWiz and Marshmallow......Sorry.....

Have you ever *paired* your new phone with your car?
I've only had two cars with BT in them, but in both cases the car and phone had to be paired before they would work together.
Once that was done then it would work as you expect.
Specifics of getting your *car* into pairing mode I can't help with, but once you do that you should be able to select it while scanning from the phone (as you've seen already the phone will list devices it finds) and you can finish walking through the pairing.

Oh yes, it was paired with the bluetooth fine (its actually a visor BT device, not the car itself), and when I turn on the BT it shows up on the list of previously paired devices)
Don't have to make it a trusted device for it to auto-pair?
Why turn Bluetooth off at all?
Just leave it on.

Dave

Nope, just had to be paired.
Trusted Device brings in the Smart Lock stuff, which enables the option of having your phone NOT authenticate you (pattern/pin/finger/passwd) when connected.
For example, I have my car bluetooth set as a trusted device so that when I'm driving I don't get any identity challenge to use the phone (like for navigation), the screen will just come on as requested.
Smart lock is blocked by my exchange administrator as I get my work emails on my phone.
I turn the Bluetooth on the phone off because I don't turn the one in the car off and it's just outside the house and will stay connected.

Bluetooth issues

I have 3 main devices that I pair to my phone via bluetooth: watch/lg tone/car
The watch stays paired with no issues, but the watch is having issues swapping from the lg tones to the car and vice versa.
Anyone found a remedy for this?
As of now, I have to go into the bluetooth settings of the one I don't want to use and deselect media/phone, then go to the other and select media/phone. And even sometimes this takes multiple times to work.
My previous phone (gs7) had no issues swapping from the two.
Hi,
Did you get a solution ? I face the same problem and can't find any solution...
Just to clarify, when you are in your car and want to connect to it, the headphones are turned off, correct?
Having similar issues... Every time I try to connect to my car (stock Subaru WRX), I have to manually connect and it takes several attempts before it connects. Once it connects it usually doesn't drop though. Very frustrating...
Another poster resorted to getting a whole new head unit: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/help/sony-xav-ax100-bluetooth-issues-t3634940

It's not in my car but with the bluetooth device of my motorcycle helmet. The reference is ncom bluetooth kit 3. I have to connect it manually and it takes several attempts before it connects. Sometimes it doesn't connect at all....
I have 2 headset Plantronics Backbeat Pro and Plantronics Backbeat Fit. They both work flawlessly
My Huawei Watch also works.
But my Nokia 616 Car kit wont connect at all.
And my motorcycle hemlet bluetooth kit, Cardo scala rider PACKTALK, connects, but the audio is slowed down to about 80 percent?
Same thing here.
I have been facing problems with a Sony SBH52 Headset and with my Opel Corsa E, stock infotainment system.
It gives me a hard time connecting but when it does it's stable.
I had the same with my gen 1 Moto 360 but after a factory reset to the watch and a reboot it's stable.

I had the same issue with my TSX. I did some research and cleared the cache. Worked like a charm afterwards. Did not have the issue one week since doing that

Ahem, I seem to be unable to find bluetooth in my app settings. Can you please give me a hint?
It's been driving me crazy these days with my SBH-52 and I want to try this too.
Thanks!
P.S.
I'll also give it a shot with a plantronics pro headset I have to see if it does the same.
Bluetooth profiles implementations, even though they passed certification, are not always made equal! So don't end up pulling your hair if a certain BT device doesn't play nice with another.
Just as an example... Head Unit X had big issues with the initial contacts sync, right after pairing with Samsung phones (already known to sometimes play around some other standards). It would only work after several reconnects. After several weeks of debugging (poor development guys) and reproduction test (poor testing guys) it was concluded that it is a phone issue caused by some wrong timing delays in the process of exchanging information between the HU and the phone. Samsung was informed and the ticket was internally closed.
I have similar problem with Bluetooth Earbuds. Phone simple doesn't "see" the Earbuds. But strange - it can see other Bluetooth devices and other devices can see Earbuds.
I'm sure this is a OnePlus 5 software problem.
Version OxygenOS 4.5.10
i have somhow issue as urs, i have Bluetooth pad lock and android watch, it sometimes connected and sometimes not, i do believe its software issue, im on 4.5.11
Yes, it is strange. After some restarts and on/offs connection suddenly appears

Carplay AI Box with 665 bluetooth issues. Wont stay on

I cant find much info on this device so I figured I would ask here. I picked up one of those Carplay AI Box dongles for the car and am having an issue keeping a bluetooth connection. Im trying to connect to and ODB MX+ which is attached to my car, via bluetooth and an app like DashCommand. Only issue is everytime I restart the car I have to go into the pairing menu of DashCommand for it to reactiveate bluetooth on the Ai Box. For whatever reason it seems bluetooth just isnt staying on. Even when the app is running and its connected the bluetooth indicator on the MI Box is off.

What device. You haven't listed what the device is details, what you've done to resolve it or what the reseller suggests.
You brought a cheap Chinese origin device and then expect support - do you realise xda isn't the seller or the support forum. What I mean by that is you have to put the effort in to get help
Wake up on the wrong side of bed today or whats your deal?
I came here asking for help which I've done multiple times over the years, never once getting such a crap response. Yes, I bought a cheap Chinese android device, have you never purchased anything from China? I bought it because from the limited info on the internet it seemed to be the fastest one out there with the Snapdragon 665 cpu. If there was a better one made my Samsung or whoever I would have bought that but they dont exist so excuse me for buying somethign from China.
Any why on earth would I assume XDA is the reseller? There are literally hundreds of thousands of threads on this site of people asking for help with something they didnt buy from XDA so no idea why the hostility.
Thanks for your worthless reply, why did you even bother?
You could try one of the 'Bluetooth auto connect' apps on the Play Store.
But what I would do is use Tasker. Setup a profile with tasks that: turns on Bluetooth, then connects to your ODB device. And set the profile to activate when the display is 'on'.
You lucked out with yours as my CarPlay AI box doesn't even allow more than one device to be paired...so I've been unable to even pair my ODB reader.
