Hi,
I was about to copy some music files from my G2 to my new laptop (Windows 7 Enterprise Edition), and disccovered that some of my music files are not viewable in PC. Please see attached for screenshots. I know that my music files are there because I just listened to them and I can see them on my phone.
I also tried going to Folder Options > View > Show Hidden Files but the music files are still not viewable in PC.
Please help me.
Regards,
Fernie

sometime usb storage isn't always up to date; usually restarting phone before plugging into pc makes it so all files are visible since I have encountered this issue before but have not found a fix(wireless storage always is up to date but does not always offer speeds as good as usb cable)

How do you transfer a movie to the Touch HD and get it to play?
I've got an .avi movie.
1h 32m
647MB
720 x 576
192 kbps
I've tried Syncing it using Windows Media 10.
Only about 5kbs transfers to the phone!?
I've tried copy & pasting via USB but nothing seems to happen.
Looks like it's transfering but taking an age and the progress bar doesn't move!!!
Is the file too big? Does the file have to be converted to another format?
Smaller .avi files play.
Any help here please?!
What playback software are you using?
Hi
When you connect your phone you usually have an option to do only a file transfer and not a sync.
I suggest you select that , then copy and paste your movie file to your microSD card.
I suppose its slow because the phone is syncing and transfering the file at the same time.
Hope This Helps
Jay
YUP agreed. All you do is select data transfer after connecting your phone via USB to your computer. Then go to my computer go to mobile device go to storage card then either drag and drop or copy and paste.
You can use a CardReader: in my opinion it is better solution if you must move big files.

Big Thanks to everyone! It was doing my head in!!!
Waiting for your help, I continued to play around with the Touch HD.
Seems that when you connect the HTC Touch HD to the PC via USB, there's an option to choose between...
ActiveSync
Disk Drive
Internet Sharing.
When I tried to look at Mobile Device in My Computer (on the PC), I thought I'd somehow wiped the storage card . Looking again, I'd somehow chosen the Disk Drive option, and then in My Computer, another drive - Removable Disc (L) appeared holding my Touch HD storage card data.
I copy & pasted the movie (.avi) files from my PC hd to the (L) drive and the files transfered in the usual way.
Thanks again to all who took time out to advise. Hope my little guide can also help folk in a similar position!
i have a sandisk 16 gb microsd
my hd2 is in disk drive mode
i want to copy music to my hd2
this is the problem every time i try i can play 3 or 4 number from an album , the rest is unreadable or something like that
i tried mp3,wmv files
nothing helped
my card is fat32 formated
format through pc and hd2
nothing helped
try using activesync mode
settings->menu->all settings->connections->usb to pc->active sync
then go to my computer find your phone go to storage card and copy the files, perhaps this will make a difference.
The way I copy media files is by connecting via ActiveSync as jfmckenna says, then using Windows Media Player on the PC to sync my media files. This is easy if you use Windows Media Player as your main player on the PC.
After connecting your HD2 via ActiveSync, just whack up Windows Media Player and click on the 'Sync' tab near the top of the program, then just drag your music/media from the library on your computer to the 'Sync' column.
If you have files which aren't already in the library, just drag them from Windows Explorer into the library of Windows Media Player. The best bit is usually Windows Media Player will convert the file on the fly when syncing if the media file isn't compatible with your phone.
Hope this helps!!
personally i've had nothing but trouble using active sync or media player to copy music. the only way i transfer it now is by connecting in hard disk mode then drag and drop directly.
just goes to show what works for one doesn't for others.
Hi Guys,
Loving my transfer from iphone to the Gnote, i find android impressive but i have a question, how can i transfer music to my Gnote? I have tried Kies but i can only move 1 song at a time.......totally leborious!!
Help!!!!
Just drag the files to the sd card in mass storage mode
Or maybe create a playlist in windows media player and then import it using keis?
In the android world, its very simple... Forget about Kies.
1. Connect your phone to your PC using the USB Cable.
2. Mount your SD card so that your SD card appears as a D: or E: or any other drive in the My Computer section of your PC.
3. Copy all your songs to the SD card. Create a "Songs" folder if you like.
4. "Safely remove" your device / Unmount the SD Card.
5. Enjoy your music on your Android Phone.
By the way, you can do this on any PCs. So, if you have some songs on your laptop & not on your desktop, you can connect to the laptop & still be able to transfer your songs from there. You don't need Kies... or other softwares. It works very much like a pen drive really...

slow mtp
Hello everyone,
just wondering if anyone else is experience pretty slow file transfer speeds? I'm getting it both with Kies, and with drag and drop (on my macbook). I'm just putting about 29GB of music straight onto the SD card. It's a class 4, so nothing special, but the whole thing seems to take quite a long time. Maybe I'm just too used to filling up a usb stick in seconds, but I'm sure the SGS was faster in this front.
If you are simply transferring files, you are better off putting the Note into mass storage mode: Menu > Settings > Wireless And Network > USB utilities it should be faster that way.

There is a less annoying way to do this.
Plug the GNote into a USB port.
Open the notification bar and touch the USB notification line.
Sends you to the same place but you don't have to tunnel through options.
Hi all,
When I connect my Nexus 7 to my Win7 x64 laptop the system doesn't mount the tablet to a drive letter. It's listed a simply "Nexus 7". I can browse to it, but when I show file details it looks like the OS is thinking everything must be some kind of media (like music files) because the explorer window doesn't show the"modification time". It shows instead Track Number, Artist, Album, Year, Duration.
Thinking it might be Windows Explorer I've also tried Free Commander (a file browser) and get the same results.
Anyone know of a way to get Windows to see the files as something other than music files so I can see all the normal file attributes, especially mod time? The reason I want to do this is I have a bunch of epub files on the tablet and when I get new epubs it's easiest to sort by mod time and compare what's on the tablet vs. what's on my PC and copy all the files newer than the newest file on the tablet. This worked great on my Nook Color, and would love to be able to do the same with the Nexus. Right now it's a real challenge to figure out what I need to copy.
Thanks for any help!
UPDATE: After looking around some more I discovered that Windows 7 is seeing the Nexus as a "Portable Media Player", which is probably why it didn't mount the storage to a drive letter and thinks all the files are some kind of media, thus the file attributes Windows Explorer is showing. So now I guess the question is, how can I get Windows to think this is more than just a media player, and I guess mount the storage to a drive letter like you'd do with a USB flash drive or an external hard drive?

Well, I feel a little foolish about being able to get the mod times on the files. I hardly ever use Windows Explorer so I didn't realize I could just click on the header area where it says "Name, Type, Size, etc.." and simply select "Modification Time". I clicked on that and Voila! the mod times were there for me.
But in the midst of my searching I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774556&highlight=portable+media+player
which had an interesting alternative called AirDroid:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sand.airdroid
It allows you to view the files on your Android device via wifi from any web browser on your PC/MAC/etc. I tried this app out and although the transfers were quite slow it's a pretty nifty way to copy files to/from an Android device, and it showed me the modification times!

I am having a very hard time downloading Music to my LG G2. I connect to my PC > Choose Media Sync (MTP) > goto where my music is stored and Drag & Drop. It says may not play do I want to download file and I choose Yes for all. It will download 1 file and then Stops. The phone Reconnects and I have to choose Media Sync (MTP) again. None of my Music has DRM (not downloaded from iTunes or Rhapsody). It's my own music. I am not Rooted yet but I will be. If I canm't DL Music this phone is of no use to me.
Nevermind. MODS Please Delete. I changed my USB port and it works fine
