My warranty just ended and i wanted to try a one click root method. I saw a lot of samsung users on youtube using towelroot so I decided to try that. I downloaded the app, the first time i clicked make it rain, it read, phone is not currently supported. In the video discription it gave a different modstring for sprint model s4's. So i tried that, and i got the same message. None of the modstrings seem to work and ive tried many other root apps but i prefer towelroot. I dont have a computer on hand to use odin and i really want to use a one click method. How far away will the next update be to fix towel root and if not any other one click apps??

If you took the NG2 update, Towelroot won't work. That loophole is currently closed.
And don't ask when something will be updated. The devs here do this for free and have personal lives to worry about. They'll get updates out when they get updates out.
Ok man chill. Thanks for the response

no. stop asking. you've been told several different times in this thread now that, if you're on MF3, you cant do much right now without bricking your device or making things hard on yourself in general.
wait for an exploit and read up until then.
Whoa watch ur tone I understand wat I was told in my thread it was jus a little hard to believe that there was such an issur with exact same firmware for identical devices

I rooted MF3 and all I have is root, is there anyway I can return back to stick with complete restore? If not, I can just back everything up. I will do it no matter what. My phone is working just fine, just wanted to go back to stock?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
If you mean unroot, then you unfortunately cannot do that at the moment. There is no MF3 factory image to flash back to, as of now at least.

What do you mean, back to stock? The way it came out of the box? The way it is now unrooted? Not sure what you want to do. And how are you backing it up?
Apps don't matter to me. I can send all my pictures and text messages etc. To the computer. I mean unroot, sorry. But since there isn't any, I will just have to wait it out. Thanks for the information.

It's probable that you can unroot. Do you have super su? You can do an unroot in settings within it.

I've never tried it with mf3 so I can't answer that. It works on other firmware. Why do you want to unroot?
Because, I've always had bad luck with root and everything never works for me when I try it. Once a stable rom comes out, I will try my luck, but not at this moment.

Good choice. Sorry I can't be of more help
I don't think just rooting is going to cause issues. Keep it and enjoy those benefits for now.
My BackUp Pro is good for backing up most things on phone. Of course you got Titanium BackUp too.
I didn't even want to flash roms on this phone. After years of doing it I was getting tired. But, did it anyway. I like TW, so don't care about aosp etc. All I really gained from flashing was some theming and nandroids. Phone, I thought, was exceptional even unrooted.

You need a PC to format the card, the rest you can do from Terminal Emulator: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387577
If you browsed the forums you would know that you cant install a custom recovery on an S4 running MF3 firmware. Meaning no TWRP or CWR. But you can root with the above method.

I tried Kingo Root yesterday. So far it seems to be working great. During the process, I received several pop ups to install software that was considered potentially harmful. I cancelled each install and was still able to gain successful root. While prices was simple and took about 5 minutes.

In the mf3 thread they said kingo is not recommended. Is there a reason it's not? I used kingo on mf3 and if it works on mk2 without problems I'd like to use again as I don't need custom recovery or roms. But I'm afraid of att updating again and it screwing my phone,

To answer your question, No there is no verified safe method to root MK2 if you are not already rooted prior to update.

Do you know if anyone is working on a root for this update?
Kingo works for MK2. I can confirm it worked with no added instability or apparent issues on the 2 I337 devices I've messed with. But is it reliable? Well, it does send your IMEI to a Chinese server for some unknown reason. You can try Vroot if you want but it's definitely not as 'user friendly' if you catch my drift.

XDA evidently considers Kingo malware, so no link from here. But just type "kingo galaxy s4 root" into Google and it should be the top result. Their website states that it is for the i9500, but it has been confirmed for the i337. As always, USE THIS PROCEDURE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Basically you can now root the S5 and NOT trip knox.
Really it seems to be most phones that are 4.2.2 work.
This doesn't get you a boot loader etc. but gives root at least for those wanting to not risk warranty and get the bloat off.

You can but you need to be aware that you can get stuck in a boot loop. But if you are willing to take the risk.
Download the Odex version that matches your system, this is critical. Extract the services.jar and services.odex files. Use a root explorer to copy them to /system/framework. Change permissions to rw-r-r. Reboot and it will either work or not.
