I have a magic (from rogers, so it works on At&t 3g) but I really really wanna get on board with the Nexus.
I am in NJ so TMo says 3g coverage is good, but i am just skeptical.
plus i have a family plan on at&t, wife uses iphone, doubt i could talk her into giving it up...
anyone gonna use the nexus on at&t and go without 3g???
I will be replacing my iphone with the nexus tomorrow when the n1 arrives. Because of how awful 3g is in my area (live in seattle work in redmond) I have been using edge almost exclusively. Funnily enough, my dropped calls have ceased after the 3g=>edge move. Go figure
I plan to keep my iphone handy and see just how painful the n1 is without the ability to attempt 3g if I really want it or need it (maps come to mind and so does pandora though both have been acceptable on edge thus far).
Perhaps I can call ATT and have them remove 3g from my account saving me some money each month.
I'm going to try it out on AT&T to see if/(how much) I miss 3g. If I can't get along without it, I'll just switch to T-Mobile. I live in Dallas so both AT&T and T-Mobile have full coverage.
For me, the people I talk to the most are on ATT and it would cost me more to continue my phone habits on a different provider than to just stick with ATT. Moving back to T-Mobile is not an option at this point. I really do wish I had kept my G1 when I made that move
yeah, i was thinking the same thing, just try my non-3g life out and go from there.....at least i'm not alone!
like you said, i have a family / friends all on att, so i might cost more if i were on tmo now...
thakns for input, good luck to us!
I have a g1 & mytouch on at&t just unlocked it. i dont mind having 2G only cuz my battery life is increased and when i get home i have wifi so i just attach to it to get better speeds.. i plan on getting the nexus one when i have the money for it. i didnt know the rogers phones are at&T compatible. anyone wanna sell or trade devices? PM ME
thanks
I hated having my iPhone on Tmobile, no 3G kinda killed the use of an iPhone, the call quality wasn't that great, and though it was handy, it was a bit annoying knowing that I had no 3G. I sold it for $370, used that money to buy a N1 :]
I have an xperia X1a.... and am probably going to buy a nexus.. I"m tired of people w/ cheap, crappy phones having way better internet speed than me.
BUT.. I will make sure that X10 really isn't tmo 3g compatible.
WHy won't the n1 get 3G- any idea when they might change that?
well, the n1 doesn't have the 850 mhz frequency that att runs there 3g on.
the n1 is coming to verizon in the spring and will have 3g......i honestly don't think n1 will ever get to att, especially since google is obviously battling with iphone.....
i really would love the n1, but i honestly don't know i could give up my magic with 3g on ATT......i was just downloading at 1600 kb/sec....pretty damn fast.
the 2g speed is only like 180 kb/sec.

wow! really?? OK....well, my decision is pretty easy then....bye bye ATT......
hello N1!
No AT&T 3G means no Nexus One for me. So my only hope now is that HTC releases their own branded version with Sense (which I would have wanted anyway) shortly after the hype blows over.
If the Acer A1 hits in the meantime, I'm going to get that I guess. No way in hell I'm switching to T-Mobile for any reason. They have zero coverage where I live and no roaming agreements with AT&T (I live in a Chicago suburb). But in areas where they do work, friends aren't getting 3G and 1/2 the time they aren't even getting EDGE!
Besides, I was only getting the AT&T version of the Nexus One to hold me over until Windows Mobile 7 drops. I have no problem waiting until Windows Mobile 7 and skipping Android altogether.
Personally, I think they screwed up. They gained very little from have Verizon offer it. Verizon customers who want a high end Android device *JUST* bought the Droid and will be getting Android 2.1 soon. If they made an AT&T compatible version, they'd have more potential for sales since AT&T has NO android devices so far and Canadian carriers can also take advantage.
For those on T-Mobile, looks like a good phone...

T-mo flipped the switch on their 7.2mbps 3G today. I'm sure it was planned to coincide with the N1 release, lol... anyway, T-mo is now the fastest GSM 3G in the U.S., right?
Edit: Just came across this article: http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/05/atandt-kicks-it-into-overdrive-rolls-out-7-2mbps-everywhere-bu/
Seems that AT&T now has a fire under its ass to follow suit. They too are speeding up their upgrade to 7.2mbps, but they won't have the backbone up to speed for a while apparently.

Winmo over Android? Really!?! For Microsoft's sake I hope you're right, but I think it's highly unlikely that WM7 will be enough to make Windows a plausible mobile platform. I've been in the wireless industry for a few years and Windows Mobile has, for just as long, been a last resort for anyone but the most diehard Windows fanatic(you?).
I do however agree that it's a win for those of us on T-Mobile. That make's five Android devices to choose from! And for the record I'll be picking up a Nexus One as soon as they start offering it with the employee discount!

Seriously man... blame AT&T and Apple for their internal agreements. It's because of the iPhone that AT&T isn't allowed to bring in any products that would cannibalize sales of the iPhone. Once exclusivity expires... Android devices will storm AT&T as well.

Which carrier do you and have with your Galaxy Tab? I will have Verizon first and then next year the one with T-Mobile.
Wow, can't believe that T-Mobile is winning?!
I'm waiting for At&t to roll out their Quad band Galaxy Tab.

It was launched first and has many hacks already in place.
T-Mobile : Launch Nov 10
Verizon: Launch Nov 11
Sprint: Launch Nov 14
At&t: Launch Nov 21 (rumor)
They all suck but T-Mobile suck less than the others.
Swisscom. My G1 is on Orange Switzerland, but recently, their 3G network has become painfully slow. I might actually let my Orange contract run out, because I'm noticing that I use the Tab as a phone more and more.
vodafone CZ
T-Mobile hardest to find here in US.
T-Mobile has the 2 year contract price. Also, their plans prices make the most sense. 39.99 for 5GB without overage charge is reasonable.
Why more AT&T than verizon ones?
Bell Canada. 850/1900 GSM, no carrier branding on the device, and only one carrier application (Bell PVR remote). Same carbon fauxber battery cover that AT&T and Rogers are using (once again, sans the carrier branding).
$649, but comes with a $50 credit on your second bill. And believe it or not, they are offering a better data plan than any of the US carriers, for a change. $20/500Mb that scales to $35/5Gb if you go over the 500, no contract.
For another $10, they offer Bell Mobile TV (they're a cable company too), that gives you (I think) unlimited mobile TV over 3G that doesn't use your data allowance.
Yeah, the data plans in the US are weak, but.. thank the Lord a lot of us actually have smartphones that are on "unlimited" plans to use and tether them to the Tab when we run out of Gee Bee's for the Tab.

Probably has to do with it being SIM-less CDMA which is nearly impossible to try to get voice working and they do stupid crap like making Bing the default search on an Android phone.
I'm on Sprint and tried the Sprint Samsung Tab and decided it's a no go for sure. The larger screen begs for HD video but unlike my Samsung Epic it doesn't have 4G and 3G buffers too much when playing YouTube HD. I'd like to try the same experience on T-Mobile HSDPA but the local store doesn't have one on display. In the end, will probably wait for the carriers to learn from their mistakes and release a Samsung Tab 2 with sOLED screen, voice added back in, 4G and even better battery life.
I'm in Europe in RO and i use Orange but they have only one offer for Galaxy Tab.
35 EUR/month that includes 15 Gb data traffic, 100 (or 200, i don't remember) SMS, a few MMS and ZERO minutes for calls.
You can make calls, but you have no minutes included.
So, i had to use a standard phone ab. and a data extra-option.
The Tab i got-it full price.
I have the Sprint version, but I'm considering returning it and grabbing the T-mobile one. For the same price, I can get 16Gb of internal memory instead of just 2Gb. Additionally, maybe I can get the NOVA demo to work on T-mobiles version. I'll continue to use the new Tab with my Verizon MiFi which still has an unlimited data plan. I guess the internal memory is the difference maker if one will use the Tab with a portable hotspot instead of using the devices carrier specific internal card.

I'm like you. Got the Sprint version on Sunday. The only one the Sprint store sold all day!. I was there at closing. Love this little thing but think about switching to AT&T. Same reason as Sprint for some reason only gave us 2gb of internal memory but a 16gb microSD card. I can get my own microSD card! The 16 gb internal is must have.
Yeah... same problem with the Fascinate it seems with its 2GB of memory internal...
Im happy to have VZW reliability and a Hot Swappable MSD card slot! the 2 GB internal is fine for me. The TMO version is nice with the 16GB on internal memory but the service is horrible in my area (long island, ny)
FWIW:
T-Mobile is what I went with. I was pleasantly surprised when the T-Mobile connection I'm getting at work, wiped the floor with my Droid X's Verizon connection, in a side by side comparison. (Denver metro)
On some of my best Droid X runs, the T-Mobile was roughly 5-6 times faster. This is inside a building that was build in the early to mid 30's.
Edit: This was using speedtest.net since it was handy. The latency was typically 80ms on T-Mobile -vs- the 400ms+ on Verizon... in addition to the vastly superior download speeds. Upload, was roughly a draw, typically in the 600kbps range. Download through T-Mobile was in the 2800 range -vs- low 200's on Verizon. Again, this is just at work where I use the tab often and haven't been home to test it there yet. Also of note, I walk outside the building, and my Verizon service is excellent too, but still behind.
FWIW, the T-Mobile US Tab is the only one of the American Tabs which supports WiFi on the 5GHz bands.
Just want to share something with you guys. I never understood why a phone a device branded to let's say for ATT having quad band that include bands for T-Mobile will only work on EDGE on T-Mobile and wise verse why T-Mobile phones that also have all bands needed for ATT will only work on EDGE on it. That's why for past several years Galaxy S 2 from T-Mobile (T989) was THE BEST phone because no matter what I put in it ATT or T-mobile or anything else it always gave me 3G service and never EDGE. Now to the point. Today I unlocked my i337 SGS4 branded to ATT and decided to check my other Simple Mobile sim with it. I was happily surprised when my 40$ Simple Mobile account gave me H+ ( HSPA: +15 in about menu) and on speed test I am getting steady 6 Mbit down and about 1.5Mbit up. I mean Skype, Youtube videos, and all other things are good to go now on budget carrier with nice unit. Amazing ! Now I heard people went to service menu and change things ,,,,, DON'T. Just get unlock code for like 3$ on eBay (I just did it) and that's it, works out of the box. So //that's all I really wanna say. I am happy to have T-Mobile / Simple Mobile capable unit cause I think I'll be going there soon. my 150$ monthly bills are killing me. I wonder overseas places will this unit pick up fast internet too or only EDGE....I really love my phone now.
P.S.
I was thinking about this for a second here. I have 40$ plan with simple mobile and for 40 they give out Unlimited Internet with first 250 MB of data on 4G speeds, then 3G. So I am thinking "H+" for them is 4G and once 250MB are gone I'll have 3G service "H" (HSPA: 10) but it apsolutely beats "E" (EDGE) anytime.
P.P.S.
Like totally out of the blue question. I have Sony SP15i unit and I tried ATT and I tried T-Mobile and Simple Mobile in it and I only get "E" in it yet phone can accept high speed network, anyone know wtf is going on when both major carriers in US are no good for this phone ? Cause I got it hooked up real nice I put CM10 in it works very nice and I am having like 3 days worth of battery in that little guy. ...sorry for totally off topic shiit.
Thanks guys !

Nothing new here and no, I was not able to walk into a Verizon store and activate my Nexus 7, but I consider this reasonably successful with some effort and possibly-wasted cash involved
So I bought the Nexus 7 LTE as soon as it was available and have been using it on T-mobile. It's been great, but I get zero signal in my work and I don't always want to be on wifi. I had a mission to get this working on Verizon and I don't have a Verizon account at all. I'm a new customer.
I read about the SIM swapping and the Nexus 7 working fine, so I figured I'd do just that. I wanted a decent-sized data plan and noticed they have a 5gb plan for $50 for mobile hotspots. So, off to Craigslist I went. I found a Verizon Jetpack 4510L for $20. I thought this was the deal of the century, until I realized that's pretty much what a two year old hotspot sells for everywhere
I bought it and went straight to Verizon, activated it on the 5gb plan and took it home. I also get 20% off for corporate discount, so that was nice to apply to the $50. I took the SIM out, cut it down to a micro-SIM for the Nexus 7 and put it in. It worked, as expected, after a simple restart.
Here's where I'm just blown away: I believe this is connecting to their new AWS spectrum. I read a few articles this week about how Verizon had turned on their AWS 1700/2100 spectrum on Band 4. Of course, the Nexus 7 supports this out of the box! First speed test I did is attached below, as well as the next two. WOW! With the hotspot, I was getting ~10mbps just while I was verifying it worked on the Jetpack, but when I put the SIM into the Nexus 7 the results were astounding. I only get two bars of service at my house as well (which is in San Jose, CA for what it's worth).
Anyway, this tactic can of course be used if you already have a Share Everything plan with Verizon as well, but I believe they charge $20 to add a Jetpack rather than just the normal $10 for a tablet. I know, it sucks, and hopefully they fix this issue in their system...but that's neither here nor there. I'm not a proponent of Verizon in any way, but I'm pleased with the price of the 5gb plan for what I'm getting.
Cheers!

IMPRESSIVE! I did basically the same thing, Jetpack to N7, and also in SJ but I'm only getting at best 13 Mbps each direction. I am about a mile south of downtown SJ. I will try other areas when I am out and about.
Question: Was your device on the new build KVT49L for VZW improvements or are you at build K0T49H? I'm afraid to upgrade to the new one - going to wait a week or so if I can hold out as I don't want to lose the tether (nobody is reported it was taken but I am paranoid with VZW!)

I've had a Nexus 7 LTE (2013) since it came out on Google Play store. It worked perfectly as an LTE device with the SIM out of one of my Verizon phones with unlimited LTE data.
I installed the update as soon as it was offered on my N7 last week. Ever since then, network connectivity while on LTE has been very frustrating. I'll have 3-4 bars LTE showing on the status bar, but Chrome, Waze, etc., all lose network connectivity. Some apps, like Amazon, work fine, so maybe some kind of DNS or google server issue?
Anyways, it can't be coincidence, this behavior did not begin until allowing the patch. Proceed with caution, IMHO.
You are using LTE Advanced service. Not many places have the service. I know NYC metro area has it. You can get access to the bands on the Verizon S4 through root and service mode. Guys in NYC are getting 90+ on the download. Its supposed to be on Note 3 as well. Im sure a future update to the S4 and higher will get access to these bands. But Verizon is probably still waiting for more deployment.

Would this work on the WiFi n7 2013? If got an old droid x that could be a sim donor already.
I can confirm that LTE is working on My 4gb/64gb ZenFone 2... I live in Seattle Washington and I've been getting consistent speeds of right around 25-28 MB/s... Not the greatest speeds in the world but far better than the 7-8 MB/s I was getting with my At&t Go Phone SIM... For whatever it's worth to anyone on the fence about buying one, I've had just about every phone worth having, between the EVo 4G and the GS5 and I gotta say "I'm loving my ZenFone 2"!!! If you factor in the $299 price tag, off contract, I have to say... This Bad Boy is Unrivalled!!!
I believe Metro relies on Magneta's LTE bands (2/4/12) because they merged a few years back. You can also unlock certain Metro phones for T-Mobile and vice versa.
"I'd Totally Hug You, If That Was Something I Did"
Update/A few thoughts
So the last few days I had been running my speed tests in the afternoon, mostly because my mornings are so busy and I forget. However, today I made it a point to run a few on off peak hours and in different locations on my 45 min commute to work and I was getting consistent speeds over 35MB/s and as high as 45mb/s! Not to bad :good:
At my office where I was struggling to achieve 2MB/s on my At&t SIM, I got 3 tests of 35MB/s at least on all 3...
So I'd say if you're on Metro PCS in Seattle and you're contemplating the ZenFone 2 US version, buy away. On the flip side if you own the ZenFone 2 and you're contemplating Metro PCS, save yourself some money and enjoy the higher speeds!!! Oh and I bought the $12 case on Amazon with the circular display on the front. Sorry the name of it slips my mind at the moment. It's slightly on the fragile side but I believe is fine if you aren't doing anything to crazy with it but I'd have to say the features that are enacted while it's on are pretty cool to have.
Between that and the knock to wake features, it has truly simplified the menial tasks you do with your phone... Every day I like this phone more and more. My infatuation with rooting and custom roms, while it's still there, has definitely subsided over the past year or so and the way these phones are coming out of the box these days we're getting the performance we were so desperately craving on our Evo's, Galaxy's etc. So while I still love the work these geniuses are doing and I'm still in awe with their talents at times, I can wait a little longer for the development to catch up... I suppose what I'm saying is don't let the lack of development detour you, they'll get around to it, they can't help themselves, you can only push one project so far before you start craving the next one!

As it is an unlocked phone, it will show 4G. To the rest of the world (other than us here in the USA) 4G is LTE. What we consider 4G is actually HSPDA+ (so your signal will show H+).
The phone won't show LTE because 4G is LTE
MetroPCS runs on the T-Mobile network, so any phone that works with T-Mobile, when unlocked, will work on MetroPCS
Excellent signal on metro, much better than this cheap lg phone I bought through them.
This is definitely showing 4G on Metro? I'm contemplating switching from Cricket because the best I can get thus far is H+ yet my GF, who has an identical device to mine except for ROM size, get's 4G all the time. When I saw that Metro has unlimited LTE for the same price as Cricket's 10GB max I figured I might as well try them out.
However I will say this. I'm on Tmobile but have many friends on MetroPCS. It runs on T-mobile but seems to have better policies in terms of usage restrictions but there is still a fine underlying line. If you consecutively pass 15GB month to month they will throttle you and when you call they play the whole "Oh thats strange let me help you with that. Were not throttling you" but magically when its the start of the next month your internet magically works again. So there is still a fine line and you cant go completely native but regardless if you average under 15GB and 8GB on tether a month Metro does offer one of the best deals around atm.

Nice I'll definitely check that out. I hit 10GB often with Cricket now but rarely over that.
