Sorry if this is a noob question, but currently my phone is running on the alliance rom for t-mobile (here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2748569). When updating to the current version, is it necessary or advisable to do the whole factory reset, wipe dalvik and cache shenanigans, or can I just install the rom by flashing it over the current install?

The steps I mentioned above will be more than enough for a fresh install? I don't want old files to conflict with new ROM

Factory reset, dalvik cache + data wipe will be enough to install fine with no conflicts
Hi
I'm currently on 4.2.2 and decided to upgrade to a 4.4 rom namely SlimKat.
Just wondering whether I need to flash new version of radio and bootloader before the ROM?
I believe that I need to do a full wipe of my phone.
Does full wipe means the following?
Wipe Data/factory reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Wipe Battery Stats
Do i need to format system and boot?
Thanks in advance
Yes, do a Data + System + Dalvik + Cache wipe and then flash the Slimkat.
No need to wipe anything else or flash new version of radio and bootloader.

Wipe Dalvik/Cache is recommended but don't need to wipe data (factory reset)
just go to recovery and install newest package you downloaded
:good:
Hello there, i installed a rom on my galaxy s4.. But kushan put a newer update of that rom.. what should i do? backup apps and just install the new rom above the old one?
That is called a dirty flash, or dirty installation.
You can do that. But there is a chance of problems.
A clean flash (wipe data, system, cache and dalvik cache) is generally recommended to avoid problems.
