I do see high Android OS keep awake but it does not seems to affect the battery life much. When it is in standby for hours, the battery level hardly moves.
Battery does barely move during standby.

LOL I like the way you ask after you have done it.
Anyway, to answer your question, it is a feature used by some mobile service providers which in effect allows for a more efficient data service by not having to wake the device up to transfer packets of data. The converse is true if your provider doesn't support it. If your provider supports it, you want to leave it switched on. If your provider doesn't support it, turn it off.
My provider doesn't support it, so I turn mine off. You will have to Google to find out for sure if yours does. Don't rely on the gimps who work in shops/manage help desk calls to know. They most often don't and then just make their answer up.
Google is the best place to check.
I enable FD for the 3 network (UK) as it supports it, no battery issues

Yea. Did some googling and found a way to edit wimax through that ##3284# code. But the 4g seems to sleep faster than before? Can anyone tell me how to do this effectively? I use my epic for my home network and its a pain. Just want it to stay on like the wifi sleep policy. Btw i tried setting it to 300 100 and 60. Anyone know what that number means in terms of time?
Thnxnadvnc!

What rom/modem are you using?
4g seems to sleep more after I flashed DK05 or DK28, didn't seem to do it much in DI18

Those are idle times, in seconds, I believe. Meaning... when the device is not actively using 4g, it will time out (sleep) after so many seconds. I think 10 seconds is the default before the 4g sleeps.. Increasing that number should prevent your device from sleeping for a longer period of time.
I did some googling, according to this page, the number is in minutes.
http://www.groovypost.com/howto/mobile/prevent-phone-4g-wireless-connection-sleeping/
I have not tried this myself to see if it helps, need to get back home first where I have 4G coverage.
Anyone else have any luck with this setting?
--------------------
Edit: It looks like the parameter is in seconds according to this post on the EVO forum, which makes more sense
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8266721&postcount=79
Yea its actually working for me. If theres nothing using bandwidth 4g will shut off. But if I have pda running 4g will stay on even when the phone sleeps. before it would shut off after a few minutes into sleep mode. Works like a charm. if you dont mind the sprint rep questioning as to why you want that number lol.
How did you access the Wimax settings? This is what I see:

You'll access the data programming area on your phone by entering ##3282# on your phone number pad. The OP mistakenly typed in ##3284#.
You'll need your MSL to explore or change the settings. If you google, you can find ways to get that MSL number without calling Sprint.. You'll just enter some commands in a terminal app.... I'm not sure where I found it.. but it's out there.

sth isnt letting your phone go deep sleep
Have oxygen and i also have awake line. Dont know what held X5 awake.
Same problem here.. Maybe some backgroud proceses.
WiFI was left on, but I think it should be automatically closed on standby. Im using Oxygen rom without kernel modification.
The application that usualy prevents phone from deep sleep is stock Email.apk application.

I happened to find my 'Use wireless networks' turned on one day, and after turning it off, my battery life improved (on the next charge) from (based on screen-on time, seen by checking Display in Battery Usage) 2 - 2.5 hours to 4.5 - 5 hours. That's double!
A battery recalibration is recommended after doing that.
It worked for me but it might not for you, so I don't guarantee any results. This is just my experience and the advice I'd like to give.
If it worked for you, enjoy!

It is always the same with this smartphone things. Mostly everytime you switch off some battery draining stuff, you loose comfort. I often want my phone to know where I am, because of wheather widget, bus/tram widget and so on.
This is good for someone who doesn't use these things.
yeah i always have this enabled because i want weather updates every 2 hours or so and sometimes use it ti check in to places, it doesn't use up that much battery compared to some other things.
Thats true. I didn't notice any difference because I don't use those things.

Disabling 'Background data' in 'accounts and sync' does a lot too .. I mean in the case you don't use it, and you have both wifi and mobile network off, so nothing can't connect anyway.

You can turn off:
Wi-Fi
Data
Bluetooth
GPS
Auto Sync
3G

Hello guys, in the last 5-6 days i'm facing a problem with my battery. Yesterday i decided to take screenshot and show you the problem.
So here they are. Over nine hours the battery lost 30% of the power. Any suggestions? What can i do to fix it?

The only unusual thing there seems to be the carrier signal which might be weak and those could the phone out of power-saving, try to see if activating power-save mode makes any difference, also if changing the network data mode from LTE/auto to 3G/WCDMA might improve things.
Where do you find 3G on the network data mode?

3G in my device is second option:
1. LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto)
2. WCDMA/GSM (auto)
3. Only WCDMA
4. Only GSM
Thanks Joku1981 & xclub_101, but i have one last question. If i use a custom ROM/Kernel i will see a difference in my battery life or not?
Hi there. I had the same problem i think. I dont want do promote an app but ive used sdmaid for cleaning up my note. Now the battery drain is almost gone and the cycle is almost like the first days. Maybe it helps you too?

Hey guys,
I have a serious problem with my Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005.
Since last month my battery drains like hell and at the same time, my wifi works not properly. It is on but only wenn I get into the Wifi-Settings it scans the location for signals. So it doesn't get into a wifi-router itself, I have to scan the area on my own and only after that it logs into the saved routers.
I used "Wake Lock Detector" to see which application doesnt let my processor sleep and I found that 90% of the time the "wlan_ctrl_wake" lets my phone awake. What can I do? I did nothing (I think) it would make it this way! Is my Wifi damaged? Or is it only a software problem? When I go by train it is the same problem. I don't think the problem is my router or something else but my phone. It is a problem of my phone.
When I turn Wi-Fi off, it works very well.
Sincerly,
Jan
@poanda in wifi settings press menu and advance there uncheck always allow scanning snd see if this works.
Also select never in keep wifi on during sleep.

So you're saying practically I shouldn't use Wi-Fi anymore? Because I know both are checked and they were never a problem. I don't think that's the solution (but I will test your first idea).
I think it is a deeper problem. I had never such an high wake up time and I use it since April'14.
And I forgot to tell that I updatet the ROM to KOT49H.N9500XXUGNI4 (Buildnumber) two weeks before the problem.

I'm not sure what could be the reason in your case. But you can try this:
Enter the code *#0011#, then press Menu button > WiFi, and make sure WIFI Power Save Mode is ON?
It was checked all the time
Does this screenshot help?
Ok it's already ON.
