I had a official stock firmware XXUA1NG2.
I used Towelroot apk to root my SM-900F and stay on stock.
I received and installed the NG8/9 update and lost root.
Is it safe to flash NG2 using odin to become official again and be able to use towelroot again?
PM is no problem, i am very gratefull for help
Best is to flash a NE2 rom again, data factory reset and reroot with TR. Then install superSU Pro and enable root survival to koop root after an OTA update. Or follow this guide to root an NGx rom with a older kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-root-triggering-knox-2nd-method-t2843044.

I edited my post, please read it. Where do you live? Here is a Google Drive link to the unbranded Dutch PHN NE2 rom https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6Ufgy16r712ODRMRFhheGZMZEk/edit?usp=sharing. Download and flash it, data factory reset, root it with TR. BTW PDA is AP now in Odin 3.09.

So after the flash:
- Factory reset
- Root with TR
- Install superSU and Pro and enable root survival. Do not make superSU a system app.
- Now you can download and install the NG9 OTA and retain root.
I always use Odin 3.09 and had no issues so far, link http://odindownload.com/.
Good luck mate

The Pro app gives you more options and will serve you for years so its money well spend imo. You have the option to make superSU a system app in the Pro options but that means you can never install an OTA update because the system is modified so i wouldn`t do it.

Just install superSU and Pro, reboot and open the superSU app and enable the root surival mode and thats it mate. Then check for updates in settings/ about he phone and you`ll get a notification for NG9. Accept, download and install it.

Then it was rooted by the former owner allready. Samsung cannot deny warranty if you have a legitimate claim unless they can prove that rooting was the cause of the defect. At least you don`t have to be carefull anymore as KNOX is tripped anyway (just kidding)
Now you can use CF Auto Root to root http://download.chainfire.eu/397/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-klte-kltexx-smg900f.zip or Towelroot and flash custom recovery`s, roms and kernels as you wish. I`d still update super SU and install superSU Pro.

Hello,
I want to ask if it's possible to just update the firmware, not flashing new firmware which removes all of my data.
I have rooted stock firmware and want update it to the latest stock firmware using Odin because OTA doesn't work with rooted devices.
My device is SM-N900 and rooted by CF-Auto-Root.

Yes it is possible but after the OTA update you have to re-root your device.
follow the steps:
1. Install Xposed Framework (a.k.a. Xposed Installer)
2. Tap on "Framework", then do it on "Install/Update"
3. Install Wanam Xposed
4. Open Xposed Installer, tap on "Modules" and check Wanam Xposed
5. Reboot the phone
6. Open Wanam Xposed, go to "Security Hacks"
7. Check (on System) "Fake System Status"
8. Reboot again...
9. you can go back to updating OTA
Thanks for the reply but that was not what I asked for, I asked if it's possible to update the firmware using Odin and keep all of my data as it's an OTA update.
And if I follow your steps (Xposed), can I just uninstall Xposed Installer and Wanam Xposed after I finish updating the firmware?
Waiting for the answer too.
in the meanwhile you can just backup your data with My Backup Pro and then restore later.

If it worked why do you need to update via Odin .And you still can update your stock ROM via odin by downloading the latest stock rom from sammobile.com and that's it,if you worried about your data just use Titanium to backup your data.

It worked for me just fine.
I did this and see if this will help you, but I don't think there is difference between the two steps.
First I searched for "Xposed Installer" on google play but I didn't find, instead I found "Wanam Xposed", so I installed and when I ran it it asked me to download "Xposed Installer" and I hit download and installed it, then the remain steps are the same as Dahdoul's.
Your phone has custom recovery? Or only rooted?
I try many times but it still in custom status, so cannot OTA update. My phone is N9005 from Malaysia, build MJ1, with CWM recovery.

The more advanced approach is to use Mobile Odin Pro - that way on Snapdragon version you can keep the old bootloader and automatically re-inject root and keep Knox 0x0!
In your case standard Odin might also work, latest stock firmware is generally non-wipe.

Okay well, I have a GS4 GT-I 9500 on android 4.2.2 KitKat.
I updated it from 4.3 to this version when I was in Russia.
And lately, I heard of rooting and stuff so I'm a total newbie!
So, I jumped for some tutorials on the web and I learned about Pc Odin, chainfire root, and CWM recovery.
I used first a method wich involved using odin to push the CF auto-root with PDA into the phone while on download mode. I got only 'reset' but no 'pass' would show. And no supersu icon will appear in my app drawer. After lots of tires and multiple Odin version changes I succeeded in having 'pass', but nope, "no proper root access"(via root checker).
So then I used Odin to put CWM recovery in the phone and enter it to "install zip from sd card" and installed the CF auto-root . zip. Lines start to flow and ends with a "Done". Then I go back to reboot and it says something like do you want to fix root located in... before root? I tried "yes - fix root" and "no - just reboot" And both didn't fix it for me.
Finally, I tried motochopper.zip that have some files wich needed developer mode to be enabled and USB debugging. I only had to hit enter in run.bat and it starts the rooting process. But immediately says failure and gives an error like "failure supersu already available"...
I would really appreciate any help. I need my device rooted soon, please. Thanks in advance.
P.S: While on download mode, it shows that my phone status is modified. I won't mind having to force a factory reset if it'll fix something.
Thanks a lot!

Hi guys,
Yesterday i have rooted a friend's phone with a laptop using the RootGenius application and all worked perfectly and the root is working good.
EDIT: I've tested other root apps on my friend's phone and it's the same problem. So that app didn't rooted correctly.
After that, i rooted my phone wich is a Samsung Galaxy S4 Black Edition (i9505) and...well, something went wrong there. After the root, all the programs were stopping working. The installed programs were not available and i couldn't open almost any app. I did a factory reset and now it's working fine, but...the root acces it's a little bit f****d up.
If i check the root with Root Checker, it says that i have root access. The superuser app is called KingUser and i never heard of this app.
Now, here comes the problem: if i want to use a root-needed app like GameCIH, for example, i grant the root access, but i can't use the app, it says that i don't have a rooted phone...
I can use the XMODGAMES app wich is also a root-needed app, but i want to use all the root apps, 'cause why not?
I tried to install SuperSU. When i open it, it says that i need to update SU binaries. I press normal, because i don't have a custom recovery and then i grant root acces and then it says: Failed, reboot the phone and try again. I rebooted it a few times and no succes, the same thing.
So what should i do?
Should i unroot it and then re-root it?
If yes, how?
Thanks.
Have a nice day.
Why not just use CF auto-root for flashing. Easiest method and never fails.
Unroot and reroot using CF-Autoroot. Search for the CF-Autoroot thread to learn how it's done.
Be aware however that this will trip the Knox flag.

We have an entire thread on Samsung's Knox software on the forum, but in short the flag is a means for Samsung to tell the phone's firmware has been tampered with.

You can remove King user by clicking on the icon, hold it en move it to the left upper corner ,where it'saing delete app or something like that in Dutch it's "installatie ongedaan maken"
At first root whith Chainfire ,don't use CWM but TWRP 2.6.0.0? Search for it,and dont use TWRP 2.8.5.0.

That's why i said it's trouble, the only sollution to remove it is factory reset, root again and custom recovery, use this time TWRP much easier ,just touch and spare the volume rockers

The factory reset dont unroot, i factory reseted and the phone is still in that trouble.
And with the recovery? Can i install TWRP now?
Ok so i figured out what i've done: I have installed Philz Recovery which is a CWM recovery 6 with touch version and it works via an app that boots into recovery (root app that fortunattely worked as root). So what do i need to do now?
If i open SuperSu it says that it needs to update the su binary. When i tap normal it fails and then i tap cwm/twrp, it dosen't do anything, even if i boot into recovery mode. Do i need to install a zip SU-BB? I did it and it didn't work. Any other ideas?

Your information is outdated. TWRP is already on 2.8.7.0 and it's the only one that should be used. Do not use old version because it will give you conflicts with Lollipop.

- If you are on the latest Philz just perform a full wipe. Reflash the rom. And do what I told you.

Yes i have.
It is stuck at bootlogo SAMSUNG.
Alright, so - I just got my hands on a Note 3 from a friend in Canada, aaaand naturally the first thing I wanna do with it is root it and stick a ROM on it. But most of the guides I've come across are somewhat outdated, and I'm a little hesitant to follow an outdated guide in case there's a mismatch of some sort with the kernel, bootloader, etc. I really don't wanna brick the thing the same day I get it.
It's on Build Number LRX21V.N900W8VLU2DOH1, Android 5.0/Lollipop, kernel 3.4.0-4348112. Reactivation Lock is off in settings. Again, it's a Canadian phone, and I believe the original carrier was Telus (it's not unlocked but he's going to get me the unlock code later today, supposedly)
I looked through the CF-AutoRoot list and I don't see this particular version available, but I think I saw in a thread on here that other AutoRoot packages will work with it.
I'm not totally clueless here, I've fiddled with my Galaxy S3 plenty and managed not to brick it, but I'd rather look before I leap.
Flash twrp 2.8.7.1 via Odin and then flash supersu via twrp.

Sweet. Do I have anything to worry about with flashing roms, KNOX, etc.?
Flashing twrp will trip the Knox counter and supersu will disable Knox.

Alrighty. I'm not too worried about the Knox counter as long as that doesn't have any bad implications for the device (no rom flashing or something), I'm certainly not gonna be claiming any warranties.
You need to flash twrp if you want to install a custom rom.
Yup, done, SuperSU's installed and root appears to work! Thanks for the advice. Now I just need to figure out why the back button stopped working. I read there's some custom kernel that fixes this.
EDIT: Yeah, idleKernel fixed the back button.

idleKernel is sorta defunct nowadays, I think, but I think I've found a mirror for you here: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/0By1qJV6BVww0NHRfX2tzNjJLWEE
If you have an N900W8, you want hlte-can. Honestly, though, it's been so long since I used idleKernel that I'm not 100% sure this is compatible with stock OH1 - best to make a backup with TWRP first.

If you want my advice -
1. Install TWRP 2.8.7.0 (use 2.8.7.0, not 3.x, because 3.x is incompatible with a lot of installers in case you want a custom ROM later on) using Odin (volume down + home when powering on to access download mode for Odin)
2. Make a backup from TWRP (hold volume up + home key when powering on, then choose Backup and check everything, make sure you have room on your microSD card)
3. Install SuperSU from recovery
4. Install idleKernel using the zip file from recovery
That should get you rooted with no issues, and if there's any problem you have a backup to restore from.
Why do you just want to root and install TWRP ??
To do backup
But if you know a good custom rom please send a link to me
Custom rom you want one that works well on your specific model.

Alomost every custom rom is prerooted so all you need to do is download twrp for your device and flash with odin that's it. Once you have twrp installed just download and flash the rom you want
Here is a link to twrp for the N910C

What base are you on ? As long as you are on 5.1.1 then I'd recommend DN5, both erobot and sixperience have the theme engine as well but don't seem to be supported anymore.

I'm not sure CF auto root actually works anymore because of selinux , been that long since I tried it.
I've never known anyone get bootloop flashing the correct twrp. Once you have twrp installed dont do anything except flash dn5 (if thats the one you choose), don't select root in twrp you should be ok just flashing the rom

Download dn5 zip to your sdcard reboot to recovery and flash the zip file through twrp that's it. If you want to go back to stock you just download the latest firmware for your region from sammobile and flash that through odin. That simple, but I think you will probably stay on custom especially if you want theme store
Edit
Yes every thing is ok in odin, just always check that repartition is never ticked by accident. Repartition should always be left unticked

is there any way to backup my apps so that I don't lose them after the process and also to backup the whole firmware in case I get a bootloop?
You shouldn't lose them tbh but you can do one of 2 things. 1 make a full back-up in recovery before you flash dn5 (think you can backup un rooted never actually tried)
2 flash latest su zip in recovery to get root then use titanium backup or similar to back them up. There may actually be an app in the playstore that doesn't need root to backup apps just can't remember what it's called

Untick reboot in odin flash twrp again and reboot straight into recovery manually with 3 finger combo before you boot up the phone. If that doesn't work flash twrp 2.8.6 first, there was a bug in 2..8.7 guess it's still there in latest version. Once you have 2.8.6 you can flash any after that

Just download dn5 then select install zip and that's it. If it asks you to root after the zip finishes don't. Also first boot (only the first one) after flashing will take 10 mins so don't panic

You won't need to worry about it now. It's just a twrp bug first time you flash it. It won't happen again
