So, I'm in Hong Kong for a mo. and looking for a Smartphone that can sync with my Outlook (mainly contact, cal, and to-dos). I was gonna get the HD mini but after I did some research, it doesn't seems to support 3G in the state. I'm with AT&T right now. Has anyone heard anything about it?
Thanks a lot!
I asked a similar question a month or so back and ended up talking to myself. We have the same problem with Telstra in Australia - need to use HSDPA 850 like in the US.
The current crop of HD Minis are only HSDPA 900/2100 which works everywhere else (and in Australia on other networks). I believe Telstra in Australia are working on tweaking a local release version here which will be HSDPA 850 but they are cagey about a release date. You may be able to pick up one of them (at an exorbitant price) and use it in the States when they become available.
I have also seen threads where people were asking if other phones that have been blocked from using HSDPA 850 because of Qualcomm's US patent infringement ruling can be opened up to use all available HSDPA frequencies via firmware. There seems to be some haziness over whether the restriction is hardware or firmware related.
If anyone has knowledge of this in relation to the HD Mini that would be appreciated...
Hi!, Do you have any news on this??? thanks!
Does anyone know whether the 3G modem in the Xoom sold in the US uses a SIM? I can purchase one in the US with no contract & intend to use it in Australia with a local carrier's SIM.
However I can't work out whether it's SIM based?
The Xoom on Verizon cannot be used in Australia, as it is a CDMA device. The Wi-Fi Xoom presumably can, however.
(A compatible UMTS Xoom will be released somewhere soon, however)
I just read this. May be the news you're looking for.

If its delayed you still have hope with the AT&T flavor, just passed by the FCC offices.

Thanks all, May is just around the corner, we have a corporate account with Telstra so I'll try & nab one as soon as they hit!
Saves a lot of stuffing around!
I've been searching heavily, and I can not seem to find any information whatsoever on the 3G versions of the tab. I find many sites with specs on the 3G version, and I know Amazon Germany lets you pre-order a 3G version, but I can not find a place to order one in the US.
Is it coming out much later? Because I am really tempted to just import one from Europe if the 3G version isn't coming out for a while.
Any info is appreciated. And yes I know the Verizon one for LTE is coming out next month, no need to link me that one, purely interested in 3G on AT&T frequencies.
Very strange to see someone from US thinking about importing something from EU, usually it's the other way arond
I also haven't heard anything about the 3G version in US.
In Europe it seems to come out by end of June/beginning of July. Until now, only 16GB version has been shown in online shops. White one seems to come first, followed by gray version mid July.
Just wondering if anyone can help me or have any ideas to resolve this problem.
I purchased a Xoom while on holidays in the states. When purchasing I told the shop assistant that I live in the UK and the tablet will have to be compatible with UK networks.
I bought a 3G Sim card and the tablet will not connect. I got in touch with Motorola tech support and this is the response I got.
We just check the details you provided and we can confirm your tablet works on CDMA technology and was designed for US market [VERIZON WIRELESS]. It means that the tablet is not compatible with GSM technology and your 3G SIM-card will not work.
Is there anything I can do to get it work with 3G or am I stuck with a wifi version of the tablet!
Thanks
..... You have a wifi only tablet now, the sim is for verzion's 4g LTE network in the states.
I thought that was the case
Hi All
Been looking around this forum and still for awhile now and no joy or any luck probably because I'm not sure how it would word all this qiestion.
Just a quick question... I want to get a standalone sim card smartwatch but I hear they dont work in the UK.
They say it's the band in the UK that's not compatible.
Is their a decent smartwatch that I can get that will work in the UK.
Thanks.
Google search your network's bands... On the manufacturer's page, the type of network, and the bands it's compatible with, will be listed. That's what I did...
