Ok after a year break from Windows Phone I'm back on it with Nokia Lumia 930 WP 8.1!
It's been fun using the HTC One M8 with android, will say its the best android phone I have used IMHO even better than Nexus 5.
However I have decided to go back to Windows Phone as I think with 8.1 the OS has finally matured and Cortana has huge potential to be even better than Google now. Yes there is still a app gap and no full on customisation like android but I'm not bothered! For me Windows Phone is the fastest and fluid OS of the three OS's that I have used. Also it's the most different, the live tiles are either you love it or hate it. Bottom line once you use windows phone as your daily driver you begin to appreciate it.
P.S. I will be back to HTC One M8 later on the year when HTC will release it with Windows Phone 8.1!
There's so much wrong with this post/thread that I have to close it. Good bye post, phone comparison post, ...

+1 here
when the rumors come true, my next device is definitely android/maemo/meego.
One of the reasons I have been using WM and HTC phones for the last 4 years is because I absolutely love tinkering with them, I don't think more than a couple of days pass without me doing something to the phone with new mods or apps.
A fixed OS would be a big turn off for me, I love the ability to customize my phone and just mess about with it, wherever I am.
I was WinMo then switched to Android for about 15 days with G1 phone... then returned it all together (2 times two different devices) and got myself Symbian )e71) which I use now. I was tired of touchscreen a bit and had no problem going to smartphone... since I wanted iphone that is not iphone litteraly I read the review if no touchscreen is a must - E71 is a way to go... review did not dissapoint. I quite happy user but that was about 2 years ago... I am now ready for another phone and it will be either MeeGo device (Nokia+Intel), Maemo (n900) or HD2. I am not thinking Windows 7 Phone for numerous reasons...
iPhone I do not want... Androids are simply NOT THAT SMOOTH as advertised but all models are simply compared to the previous Android device and blown out of proportion how better it is... problem is I want something that opens stuff in the blink of an eye, that has no bugs, that hold battery enough for me to operate on my stuff I need (1 days is kewl) and that's it... oh yeah - I want Garmin XT installed which I have now and my other choice is HD2 besides Symbian S60 devices... Nokia Touchscreen is not that perfect yet - so my favorite now is HD2 - however, I will not get it yet - I want to see massive reviews from people that get it...
i love htc sense and i will follow it to android

I'm leaving android sense for a hd2. android sense is nothinglike the winmo sense.
HD2 is just fine plus i am sure they will at some point make the WM7 avaible for it. And if not - the shefs will manage to cook similar roms.
Plus - waiting sucks, i've already waited way too long for the Leo and it was worth it!
I have gone and done it, just bought a HD2 and it arrives tomorrow...
Selling my Samsung Galaxy S and returning to my old faithful Windows mobile, responses I have had from some, state I must be mad its old dying platform.
But I for one still prefer my old Touch HD over the bloomin horrid Iphone and now Android, which I simply don't like, reminds me of Mobile shell and I never really liked the messy widget type layout with that either, don't get me wrong here the galaxy s is a superb phone, in fact is quite ballistic and that screen is amazing....BUT I miss my old Memory map navigation sync with my desktop, my collins bird guide and pocketbirds.
I very much miss the ease of sync with my outlook and the simplistic way everything is compatible with my office docs, I have become so used to windows mobile for so many years I don't think I am compatible with anything else just yet, but at least I gave them a go...
Hopefully the HD2 will be as good as my old HD was and more...
looks like You know what You are talking about, so all I can say is that You'll be more than happy. I know it because I am...
hd2 is the best winmo phone ever. period. snapdragon is the answer to most of problems from the past, plus sense interface makes it pleasant and useable.
my advice - stick to most recent stock rom, just tweak it as You used to with previous wm devices. I did that... rock solid, fast, no crashes nor freezes.
I am keeping my hd2 even if I'll buy something new in the future. for now there is no better choice for winmo users... and unfortunately there will never be.
a real leo...

sounds like a declaration of love to your leo
but you are absolutely right. its the fackin best winmo device.
Glad to see someone still spreading the love for windows mobile. I have defended WM on my Leo to many Iphone and Android fanboys who are too dumb to use WM properly.
I'll admit I have been playing with Android lately but I will never remove it if the option to flash android becomes available. I wind up back in WM much of the time.
agreed, tis a fantastic piece of kit. i've always sold on my earlier phones but as the above poster stated, this one is staying. you will love it mate !!!
naaah... I wouldn't call it love. see... it is just a tool. I understand however it's capabilities and raw power.
back in the past, I was torn between hd2 and nokia n900. well... I went for HUGE capacitive screen and snapdragon. after placing an order some doubts appeared, but... when I've unpacked the box and held it for a very first time I knew instantly I made the right choice.
now after about eight months, numerous tweaks and apps installed, despite few scratches on the housing it is still my gadget of choice. tried android (same thoughts as op, too much spb ms to me...) and iphone. well... I am waiting for android 3 and wp7, but I just may keep leo for quite a long time... we shall see...
I've been thinking about this and surely it is in their interests for the hack to happen, we have android already. so if you grow to like android chances are when you get a new phone/contract you'll get an android device..?
Which brings about my point .. consider the hd2 a try before you buy for your next Gen wp7 device .... I'm going to give it a go myself but I really like android ATM ... that cotulla is some guy
My thoughts I posted on Pocketnow:
I have an HD2 with 6.5 on it. As 6.5 has been "killed off", I am now running Android as my daily driver... And it's fantastic! I've already spent £30 in the App store, I'm beginning to use Gmail, Google, etc.
If MS choose to give me a code, then I will do the same with WP7, and have a fair trial of both before deciding what works best in my life.
But at the moment, I can't trial it other than in shops/off friends, and it's becoming a one-horse race for Android. If MS want to tempt the many many thousands of HD2 users, they should turn a blind eye to this.
My hardware is less than a year's old, there's no way I'm buying a new phone for another 12 months.
It's absolutely good, I just bought a HD7 after having used WP7 on my HD2 because it was just flakey enough, and I missed having full use of my camera... proof that the hack is good.

the hd7 is one of the nicest looking phones out there, but the hd2 is is just king of all phones, being able to run both solid builds of wp7 and android.
if i lost my hd2, i'd gladly pay out the same money i did a year ago for it
Yes, i have the same idea) I have HD2 with WP7, and now a im going to buy HD7 =)
I have tried both WP7 and Android on the HD2 and would have stayed with WP7 if it wasnt for not being able to watch flash or copy and paste, and microsoft is just giving away codes i personally have called twice for activation codes and was able to use marketplace and everything. I will forever be a fan of android though especially on our HD2's because there are so many different flavors and im a big fan of choice, and android also has a better market. The apps for WP7 suck to me but i did love the tiles.
It's definitely worked on me! I can't even imagine using another OS after using WP7. I will be getting an HD7 once it's time to upgrade. I'll always keep, use, & love my HD2, but will go to a native WP7 device soon. The apps I used & need on Android are now on WP7 & superior to the Android versions, so I'm very happy with WP7. A few minor changes & this will be the closest to perfection mobile OS, imo.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
the full power of Android and the "beautiful" design of WP7 will be the perfect combination to MobileOS right?
HD2 is a powerful machine till now.
Shall other devices even more powerful upcome soon? Maybe a full Windows 7, MacOS or Linux in a 4.3 inches screen device with the camera and phone features is what we are waiting for!!! or not, but I found that I love how simple is WP7.
peace out fellas!!!
Lovin WP7 on the HD2. My only issue is MMS messages, but this is definitely going to make me get a HD7 once my upgrade comes around.
I know, it sounds weird. But, I already bought a WP8 and Xbox Music is driving me insane! I miss the old Zune software, it was perfect.
good luck with SecureBoot and UEFI, those two won't let you install any unofficial OS on you phone

Not to me, if there was an option to do that, I might go back to 7.8 on my HTC 8X...as long as I can go back to WP8 if I wanted to later. I used the 7.8 beta and RTM on my HTC Trophy for about 2-3 months before going to WP8...SO I know 7.8 Very well.
1. No full unlock or interop unlock, questions if it will ever happen.
2. The Windows Phone app sucks(unless you have Windows 8), no better word for it, I want zune back.
3. Day to day use 7.8 is almost exactly like WP8 (if your just using 3rd party apps and email for the most part).
4. There is No games or apps that really take advange of the better CPU or subsystem in Windows Phone 8, any current game made for WP8 should be able to run at full speed on any WP7.5 device.
5. PDF app sucks
6. Xbox Music sucks compared to Zune
7. Standard same OEM colors (refer to 1,), Why Microsoft didn't do something about this on WP8, I will never understand....
8. The HTC 8X has a faster CPU, has a bigger display, and is sleaker than MOST 7.5 devices. It would be a pretty cool looking 7.8 device.
Should I go on ?
Dont get me wrong, I like my HTC 8X but, comparing them side by side, There is def a advantage(for now at least) if you find a way to get 7.8 on there BUT, if you can get 7.8 on there, you could use custom roms and you can get WP8 just the way you want in a lot of cases. One of those catch 22 type of things here...
To be totally honest I do agree, I sold my Lumia 820 after 3 weeks use last year and have gone back to using my Lumia 900 running 7.8,
Have been using 7.8 since September last year as had a custom rom on my old HTC Titan & since early Jan on the lumia 900(Navifirm)
WP 7.8 quite simply does exactly the same thing as WP8 and after being so disappointed at the lack of improvements on the Lumia 820 I find at this stage WP8 does not deliver, Zune wins the day for syncing and the music tile looks so much better on 7.8, Until they truly sort out the removable storage and desktop client I will not miss it, Battery life sucked big time too,
They really need to improve on a lot of things, But that is just my opinion
Having had a lot of android devices (started with the T-Mobile G1) sometimes i`am a bit (not realy) boared with android. Don`t get me wrong, i like android and the Nexus 4 but sometimes i feel like trying some other OS. The next thing after android would be WP 8 as i`am never going to buy a iPhone.
But off course WP8 has its disadvantages over android like (as far as i know):
1. low level development
2. Limited app store
3. Static UI, so no widgets and no other launchers like android.
I Played around with a Lumia 920 today and it worked quite well. I`d realy appreciate if future or former WP8 users could post some xperiences about the pro`s and cons.
i had sgs and htc desire s , sgs 3 and htc 8x(windows phone)

as i said i have has a sgs ,htc desire s , sony experia arc s ,sgs 3 nd i have a htc 8x(but sold it for nexus 4 that is coming soon) , just think carefully before u buy a windows phone the custumisations options are very limited and things that you can get as standard on android either dont exist on windows or you have to pay for ,sorry for bad spelling
I really, really, really want to like Windows Phone. I never really liked Android before I got this Nexus4.
I like the UI of windows phone better actually. It may not have widgets, but it has live tiles. I liked the screen on the Lumia 920 better. It was nicer, crisper. But the apps are just horrible. They have apps for just about everything you would need (contrary to what google and apple would have you believe) it's just that most of them are poorly written or don't work well. The onscreen keyboards are about the same. I don't really like either of them (say what you want about iphone, but it's still the best phone keyboard I have used)
I am going to give WP another try in a year or so (assuming Microsoft doesn't give up before then)
I will never buy WP, you cant do nothing with it. Even if you want copy music from pc to phone you must instal zune.
For jimmyhauser: you can try WP8 launcher
