I've done a ton of reading on this forum only to find out that it's locked down pretty tight and getting Root and Roms installed can be a pain. I then went over to the Lenovo Website where it looks as if the tablet is going to be discontinued soon. I ended up chatting with a rep from Lenovo and I asked them if the K1 will be getting ICS and they said NO! So now I'm mildly disappointed in my purchase.
Is the K1 going to be worth keeping? Are we going to get a fully functional ICS rom? I see that there is some developement on CM9, but it has it's issues still. I guess what I am writing this for is, I need to know if I should just throw the K1 on Ebay and look for a more open and upgradeable tablet?

Root is a fairly simple, follow the directions, sort of process. Rom installation is the same as root. The problem isn't installation but bugs because we need driver files for ICS. Also, Lenovo hasn't released all of the source code or the bootloader, the previously released source code wasn't functional. The K1 was supposed to be getting ICS in may but it looks as though that was taken off the official website (a screen capture from before it was removed).
Hopefully we can shame Lenovo into releasing full source code and bootloader.

It would be a shame if we don't get ICS, but the way the rep at lenovo was talking, it simply isn't going to happen. As soon as I mentioned it, he said that it wasn't possible for the K1 to run ICS and then he started pushing their new tablet on me that was upgradeable to ICS. Its as if they completely dropped the K1.
Do you have links to the root and CM9 installation process that worked for you? I've read the threads and it seems as if some of them have many problems. Also, did you use windows 7? It seems as if most of the instructions are for Ubuntu
It's BS that the K1 can't run ICS. My Nook Color can run ICS flawlessly with a 2 year old single core processor. Plus there's already an ICS alpha here on this site, we just don't have the code to get the cameras and other things working.
I would personally recommend that you stick to just rooting until the K1's ICS is further along. The root works flawlessly but ICS has the bugs that are mentioned in the first post.

Just an Update
Lenovo released this news March 31st so its relevant to this post.
:Lenovo ThinkPad and K1 Tablet upgrade to ICS Newsflash
This coming spring 2012, Lenovo’s ThinkPad Tablet and IdeaPad Tablet K1 users will be able to upgrade to the latest Android 4.0 OS, also known as Ice Cream Sandwich. Committed to making their tablets ‘future proof’ by supporting newer releases on the Android OS, Lenovo tablets with Ice Cream Sandwich will offer new features* including but not limited to:
A new and improved browser with a significant speed enhancement that allows users to jump to their favorite content faster and even save it for reading later in case there's no network available.
Voice input allows users to dictate text. As the voice input engine enters text, it underlines possible dictation errors in gray. After dictating, users can tap the underlined words to quickly replace them from a list of suggestions.
Face Unlock, a new screen-lock option that lets users unlock their device with their face. It takes advantage of the devices’ front-facing camera and state-of-the-art facial recognition technology to register a face during setup and then recognize it again when unlocking the device.
Users should look out for the Over-The-Air (OTA) upgrades beginning in April for IdeaPad Tablet K1 and May for ThinkPad Tablet. Visit shortly for more information.
* Features may vary by model and country."

I guess they got enough angry emails. Between this and the USB host cable, this is turning into a decent purchase.

I know this is an older thread, but I though I would update with the news from Mark, in the Lenovo forums, that works for Lenovo, says the ICS for the K1 is just around the corner. They were about ready to say it's a go, but found a issue that needed fixing first. Then, they need to get the web page with all the disclaimers and whatnot about the release.
The ICS release for the K1 will NOT be an OTA. It will be a download only with full instructions. The best part of it all, at least in my opinion, is that it will be a Vanilla Release of ICS. No Lenovo junkware included.
Lenovo is being targeted as a company that lacks the ability to provide updates on a timely scale and as promised. I have yet to see ANY Android manufacturer fully comply with promises for ICS upgrades. So, hang in there and we will soon see ICS on our K1, aside from the crippled, but stable, CM9 version, here on XDA.

a. Ideapad K1 is discontinued
b. Can no longer download drivers!
So whoever is feeding info regarding any update is probably FOS - typical Chinee BS - don't think that Lenovo has any thought of upgrading. Throwing mine onto Ebay

We are a few weeks or two away, plenty of bugs to iron out before we are even Beta Ready.
I assume you mean a release for the kfhd 8.9?

I am very shocked that developers released the CM10 ROM, I feel it is way too Green to have anyone waste there time on the installation. We would never release anything to the public that can not even display the boot screen well, it gives CM10 a bad name - just my opinion.
We will let you know when we are ready - we are not trying to be the first, we are trying to have the best ROM available. If it is not as stable or MORE stable than the Kindle original ROM we will not release it to the public.

I'm a bit surprised by your opinion honestly. The cm10 for the KFTT only has two bugs. One is pretty minor (the boot screen. Yes, I would prefer it to be correct but... more to follow). The second bug is lack of HD.. that one I see as a major bug. But for me my choices are- 1. Run the Amazon Rom and HOPE the notifications work in a timely manner BUT I can run Netflix. Or 2- run a Rom that allows me to get notifications on time (for me MUCH more important. I'm very surprised that the stock Amazon OS handles notifications so poorly since even my Windows 8 box does that right lol
Now, the cm10 roms for the other devices are barely functional so I would understand, but what Hashcode has accomplished here is pretty darn good. ESPECIALLY having TWRP..
I DO really look forward to trying the ubuntu Rom though..
Edit: as for the initial post here.. dude is asking about kfhd roms but is posting from his kf2? I THINK the cm10 build he is talking about is for the kfhd 7" NOT the kf2 rom

The Kindle Fire 2
I have a kindle fire 2 and am surprised that people cannot hack the bootloader on it yet. I say this because I have had all the Apple Ipad and Iphone and everyone has been able to hack them with no problem, although it took them awhile!
So I hope that someone is able to get the bootloader unlocked for the Kindle Fire 2, HD to enable the installation of custom roms. Personally I just want to take an image of the KF2 and put it on my KF1 (both uk versions!).

mindmajick,
I think we are on two totally different pages. I am very well aware of Hashcodes work on the Kindle Fire 2 which is down right impressive. I have tested there work on the Kindle Fire 2 for the last week (almost 10 days now) and all we found was two minor issues and one major issue.
What I am talking about and I will be clear this time (sorry I was not clear in the post) is the Kindle Fire HD 7", the one that was released about 7 months ago and has software revisions of 7.2.x - we did test 1 version as well as compiling our own AOSP, CM10 and AOKP. The latter was a complete failure but it was not due to the Kernel's fault, it was due to the know issues around compiling Kernels around the Kindle Fire HD 7" plus there are limited resources available on the Kindle HD 7" and Custom ROM's.
Anyways, the Kindle Fire HD 7" and 8.9" are exciting platforms to builds around, we have been on the phone and emailing TI almost daily (working to get the proper drivers built into the Kernel's). Thank God we have the support of Ubuntu, otherwise this path would be even more difficult.
The idea around Ubuntu is very different than CM10 and the rest. The idea with Ubuntu is to completely replace the desktop computer, so by day, your phone go with you and at night you dock the phone. The phone via the dock, is connected to an external Printer, Monitor, Keyboard and Mouse. The Ubuntu Phone becomes your home PC. No need for separate ISP, no need for another PC, no need to sync you work. The big question, what about the Google Play Store Apps, no problem. Ubuntu supports Android Apps natively as well as supports the entire array of Ubuntu apps already available (most are free). Release timeline? Hard to say, if it was our choise we would release a copy for the Kindle today but we are under tight constrains with Canonical. They tell us when it is OK to release the software.
More to come........................

persano,
The Ubuntu ROM for Android is Stable on our Kindle, we could launch a production copy today, the problem is the contract that we sign with Ubuntu Canonical. This contract does not allow us to release any copies of Ubuntu for Android until Canonical is ready to launch Ubuntu for Android.
So we are just staying busy writing new Apps for Ubuntu rather than focus our efforts on rushing the Production version. Do not get me wrong, we spend plenty of time each week on the ROM, streamlining it and making it faster.
It would not be a good idea to release the ROM today anyway since this ROM is intended to replace the desktop computer. Having said this, we are missing a Key part - a dock for the Kindle to add an external Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, and Printer. When the manufactures begin to release docks, we will release the ROM. Do not worry, if Amazon does not release a dock, we will still release the ROM, it may be a few months or two away, that is all.

This is kind of a poor attempt at a troll don't you think?
1. No where in ReverendKJr's thread does he claim to be an expert coder who is releasing a fully usable ROM. Everything is very clear in the OP that he is showcasing some of the work VeryGreen did on the KFHD8.9 and trying "learn as he goes" and port some of that over to the KFHD7.
You: A dev who hasn't posted anything in the "dev" section yet, trying to belittle someone who has; is like a 5 year old scribbling over their neighbor's painting so that everyone will look at theirs instead.
2. Not many users are looking for an Ubuntu Desktop ROM on their KFHD. I can safely speak for the majority of this community: they're waiting for AOSP Android in some fully functional form. Tho, if you are hinting that you have a working copy of unreleased Ubuntu Phone, I'm sure there will be some interest in that as well.
3. You mention being on the phone with TI daily. But let me ask you ... why? There are publicly available resources to gather almost any information you need on TI products. And about the ONLY thing that's really made by Texas Instruments in the Kindle Fire HD's is the CPU and the battery gauge. Everything else about the device is some other manufacturer. And to prove it here's a QUICK breakdown of the KFHD8.9 of which the 7" is very similar:
*CPU: TI OMAP4470 @ 1.5Ghz
InvenSense MPU6050 w/ Gyroscope, Accelerometer and Compass (Aichi Steel ami306)
Light Sensor: Maxim MAX44007
*Battery Gauge: TI BQ27541
Charger: Summit SMB347
Wifi: Broadcom 4330 wlan
Audio: Wolfson Micro’s WM8962E
Touchscreen: Cypress TrueTouch
LCD: NT71391 Hydis 1920x1200 WUGA DSI
Here are random sources off the top of my head which would serve you better than a phone call to a now very understaffed mobile/smart phone department:

4. I'm curious how you plan on solving the M3/ducati issues presented by running in Ubuntu. This would be the 2x sub processors normally designed to run HD codecs and camera. In Android, they are coded with a real time OS which communicates with the OMX integration layer (see: hardware/ti/omap4xxx/domx in Android source for more info). In Ubuntu, they don't use OMX, instead opting for g-streamer and other solutions. The ducati presented by Amazon uses OMX. Not G-Streamer. So unless you're planning on software decoders (less than desirable), this is going to be an issue.
So I'm going to call your bluff: Show me yours and I'll show you mine. Feel free to PM me.
Mine:
I have CM10.1 booting on the KFHD8.9. I'm re-writing the userspace audio driver from scratch (not done) and the HD codecs/camera functions need tweaks. Working Display, Wifi, BT, Sensors, etc. It's running a 3.0.50 kernel based on TI's latest OMAP4 kernel release. It's fully enhanced with blitsville drivers and brand new PowerVR graphics drivers released only a few days ago.
Sources:
https://github.com/KFire-Android/android_local_manifest
Specically, kernel: https://github.com/KFire-Android/kernel_omap_bowser-common
(You may note that I've left a place holder device for the KFHD7 which is pre-set up with as much information as I have currently.)
I have publicly admitted that I'm overbooked with devices and wasn't planning on supporting the KFHD7.. BUT that doesn't stop another dev from looking at my work on the KFHD8.9 and porting it to the KFHD7.
In closing:
1. Don't insult devs who are looking to help out in a community that is lacking. Everyone needs to start somewhere and who knows what may come of it.
2. Development isn't "dead" on the KFHD7. It's just in a deep state of slumber.

Hashcode,
We have been in business since 1982 and have nothing to prove to anyone, certainly not you - our business speaks for itself. I respect you work and although I do not agree with all your decisions I still respect you as a developer and believe you are quite a genius - we have spoken in such a fashion in quite a few posts.
This is the beauty of this community, we can all have different ideas, different platforms and different OS's - all meet together as developers to share and be part of an overall goal to improve the end users experience. We never said ours was the best. We can have an open dialogue and not always agree but in the end we can respect on another.
This is a ridiculous response and I will not respond or waste any more time on it other than this one response.
We may not even be allowed to post the ROM in the end since Canonical Ubuntu has not made a final decision on it's marketing strategy. In the end, we may only be allowed to post apps for Canonical, everything is in the air at the moment. This just fine with us since we resell there other products and the Kindle Development is about 1% of our total monthly business.
We specialize in Anti-Spam, have you heard of Postini? We developed an anti-spam engine back in 2002 that was eventually bought by Postini, which was eventually sold to Google. Anyway, this too is a small part of my total company revenue. So I have done my share of development work - this is just a hobby to us, not a primary means of income. As a matter of fact, we decline to charge most customers that send there Kindle back to us for data recovery. This is one of the many gifts we offer to people in the XDA Community.
Rather than get upset, why don't YOU apply to be a developer for Canonical and bring on competition within the Ubuntu world? We would love to have you aboard, if you meet the minimum business requirements.
Just like yourself, we are here to share our abilities with the XDA Community. One thing we refuse to do is dialogue with someone who has posted an aggressive response like you have done. We have done nothing but spoken highly of your work, we have mentioned your name in several posts so we really do not deserve this kind of garbage.
This would have been far better received in a Private message or call to our number which is posted in every response. I am sure we pressed buttons with you or have somehow become a threat which I really do not understand? There is plenty of room for everyone here in XDA and I love competition - this is how I came up with my name, I am sponsored by Prokennex - Michael Martinez is a good friend of mine.
Let's just see what happens over the next few months, I believe of letting action speak, not words. This site is NOT our primary means of income, we own a large data center and manage over 650 customers - we are an IT Company that manages companies like: Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, Chevron Corp in Dublin CA, Wells Fargo Bank in Oakland, Alcan Plastic Packaging in Newark, VTA Transit in Santa Clara and many more.
Between my company and Racquet Ball, I have absolutely no free time!
We are honored to be a part of the XDA Community allowing us to share our expertise and experience, this is our goal here in XDA Developers, not to impress you or anyone else.
Finally, we joined Ubuntu quite a few years ago reselling there desktop and server platform as a Windows replacement. When they discussed releasing the Ubuntu for Phones and Ubuntu for Android, the idea fit our vertical market perfectly so we joined this solution at the 2013 CES show. The idea is to replace the desktop workstation, which will happen since phones & tablets have plenty of power to perform such a task - I am just surprised it took this long to come to reality.
God Bless.
Okay, I'm trying to get in the Sailfish game here. I bought a broken Xperia Z and brought it back to life just to find out the bootloader is unlockable. I'm SO angry because Virgin Mobile is refusing to unlock it because I'm not a customer (nothing wrong with the IMEI, I checked). Anyway, this has just doubled down my sheer determination to get out from under the carriers foot.
So I want to play too. I already gave my info to sledges and said I could help with documentation (I was told to hold tight). BUT since that Xperia is dead to me I wanted to know if I should go pick up a Nexus 4 and help with that adoption (install and test), or should I go get something else like a Moto G or a Nexus 5 and start playing. Where would I be the most help to the community?
Thanks,
Dinsdale247
Sounds like Nexus 4 and the Samsung S3 LTE are getting all the love, I was planning to get the Jolla phone, but after I found out the Nexus 5 was about the same price, with much better specs, and the fact that it is one of the most open phones you can get, I was looking at putting sailfish on it when it becomes available. I was actually surprised that work started on the Nexus 4 and not together with the Nexus 5, I guess no one whose porting has one.
It depends on what you're looking for in a phone, or if you just any phone that you can get the Sailfish OS on.
I would help with porting Sailfish to Nexus 5, but I have exams coming up, and no experience with porting.
There is a reason Nexus 4 is getting the attention.
It all comes back to the Hybris project. Many developers are using it as THE means to get ports jump started to Android hardware. Not only Sailfish, but Ubuntu Touch and Open Source webOS are contributing. Consensus seems to have been reached by the various developer communities that Nexus 4 and factory 4.2.2 offer the best hosting for modern hardware porting efforts with up-to-date spec and software stability on which to build.
IMHO, Nexus 4 is the clear choice for users in the field who want options. It's a stellar piece of hardware; yes there are more dynamically spec'd devices coming everyday, but mostly that capability is not being used for anything short of intense 3D gaming. If you want a solid phone that will have the spec to test unoptomized software Alphas and Betas this is a great unit and it has the radio hardware for near universal GSM access. The latest Android builds remain available, you can port Ubuntu Touch, you can (now) port Sailfish OS, you can add multi-rom capability and boot into Firefox OS... PLUS... a rumor has recently reached my ears that soon you will be able to port Open webOS to the N4...
What other phone is going to give you that many options? I say, Nexus 4, FTW baby!!! :highfive:
Now that the new Lenovo Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ has a Snapdragon processor, can we get a Yoga Tablet sub-forum?
If I recall correctly, the reason they couldn't create a Yoga Tablet sub-forum in the past was because of the Mediatek processor which didn't comply with the forum requirements.
Moderators?
I also vote for a yoga sub-forum.
In my point of view there is enough stuff to discuss, which especially focus these devices.

Lenovo offers the Android BS for the Yoga 10 HD+ (B8080) as OpenSource-Code-download on the product's support page.
I think this is one more reason to open a sub-forum for this device, isn't it?
+1 from me
Actually, I just came straight from the other thread to open one requesting this myself.
+ 1 for a Lenovo Yoga 10 HD+ subforum - root? brightness issue?
+ 1 for a Lenovo Yoga 10 HD+ subforum. :good:
The open source-code of Lenovo is published here
By the way: Is there any solution or a guide for rooting the device? Is anything known about updating on Android 4.4 and are there any other roms available for this device till now?
Sorry for asking questions like this, but as I own the Lenovo Yoga 10 HD+ just for some weeks, I don't know much about that. Also searching in this forum didn't help me. There are just some Rooting-Guides for the Lenovo Yoga 10 (which is already running Android 4.4, as far as I researched?), but for the HD+ I didn't find anything.
One other question @ all Lenovo Yoga 10 HD+ owners:
I have problems with the brightness-settings. When I use the Lenovo Yoga 10 HD+ outdoor and I need a brightened screen, I switch of the brightness-automatic mode. But even if I do so, the tablet regulates the brightness of the screen down - sometimes after some minutes, sometimes even after some seconds. Anyone else here, who has the same issue or even has an solution for that?
Thank you and sorry for my bad english!
It's not my native tongue...
Regards,
Asmaron
+1 for a Yoga HD+ Subforum!
Yesterday I got an update to Android 4.4.2 - no problems so far.
Are there any news or rumours for an Android L Update yet?

Do you have the Wifi or 3g version?
I hope for the 3g version, then my tablet would get the update soon too.
I also hope that we get a sub-forum soon. The tablet is awesome and there is room for improvement with custom ROMs.
I think somebody already made a start: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/recovery-cwm-lenovo-yoga-10-hd-b8080-h-t2811815

I've got the Wifi Version but i'm wishing you luck
It's weird that i haven't found a official announcement for the latest update yet.
Is there an official changelog?
And for the records: +1 for a yoga hd+ subform
Sub forum would be good
+1 for the sub forum.
Come on!
There are even Yoga 2 tablets now! A dedicated sub forum is long overdue.

My +1 on a new Yoga forum, I'm a new Yoga 2 8 owner.
Yoga 2 10" here. Agreed on finding a forum home for this.
very interested in the yoga to tablet I'm pretty disappointed to find that there is not a sub forum for the yoga series on xda.
Just bought a Yoga 2 10" at a bargain price and with VAT cash back by redemption.
Hopefully that will mean more sales in the UK. Would be great to see a dedicated forum.
Would also like to see a dedicated spot for the Yoga on xda. Now that the device architecture has changed, it would be nice to get some development going for it.
Mine is officially ordered as of last night. The Pro 13.3 just sounds like a complete monster and too good to pass up on. A stereo system paired with sub and a projector on a tablet. As more Android devices are going Intel, I think development should start picking up.
+1 Lenovo Yoga SubForum
+1 in the idea to get a subforum for the lenovo yoga hd+.
Please anyone help us
Come one with Yoga 2 sub-forum!
count me in
I'd also love a Yoga subforum! I just got my Tablet 2 Pro yesterday, and although it's a good tablet already, I'm very excited to get it rooted and fix some performance issues it's having. A subforum would definitely help with that!
hey everybody,
As mentioned in the title we need to do something about all the 5.1 lollipop issues we have right now with our beloved tegra note 7.
If we all stick together now and show nvidia that we need there help, that we might get enough attention to get most (if not all) of the problems solved we have right now.
My idea is basically nothing else than just contacting Nvidia together and state our issues. NOT just on their nvidia tegra facebook page or whatever.
we all should take a few minutes to contact them everywhere possible. ONLY on sites which are related to the Tegra Note 7 of course.
we don't want to create unnessecary spam threads on sites which aren't related to the TN7.
so, here are some links to some a few pages where you can leave a post stating some of your issues you have with the 5.1 update:
NO SPAMMING, NO SWEARING, just state your issues
- Tegra Note 7 Board (Geforce Forums) <--- This link will redirect you directly to a new opened thread that i made where you can post about your issues regarding the TN7
- Nvidia Tegra (Facebook Page)
if there are any more sites which are related or important for the TN7 Issue reporting, then pls, feel free to post the link
I get the impression that NV is done supporting their Tegra 4 hardware. Go look at the Shield Portable forum and see the same complaints. This hardware is getting pretty old now.
I do wish it had been more popular and attracted some custom ROM developers.

But they can't just leave us with one of the worst updates ever. They really should take responsibility for what they have done to us (and to the shield portable users).

155 views on this thread but only 2 posts at the thread at the geforce forums?!
Come on guys, if you want to get your tegra note 7 (hopefully) fixed, then you need to show Nvidia that you care about your Tablet.
Account registration just takes a minute, so please, just take this minute to help us all together out on this.
@GodOfPsychos
There is one more community related to Tegra Note on google+
I am restricted from posting the link.
Just google it
Godlets start a campaign against Nvidia t
Lets show them we care
btw. i will also try to reach out to the live chat support from nvidia when i have time.
Sadly they don't have a real support page for tegra note 7 (at least i can't see any).
so in this case i will just "invade" (not literally ) their Shield Portable support via live chat and talk to them as long as it is needed until i get a satisfying answer.
i know this might be kind of a "strange" move to make. but i won't just sit here and let nvidia do that to us. so i will try any possibility that it takes to get noticed by nvidia.
AND it still would be pretty nice if all the ppl that viewed this thread without even replying to it, would at least help us reaching out to nvidia because right now there are only a few that try to help. AND we need more people for that.
Please everybody, we need your support on this one.

Really wish some dev would give us a custom rom with decent performance, as opposed to stock lollipop. or even better, marshmallow.
I mean if 6.0 on my old Moto G is any indication on how much better the performance coule be then... yeah
